[Tech] Aelyria Site Maintenance this Week |

Sometime during the next couple of days, we will be taking Aelyria offline for approximately 15-20 minutes to perform system maintenance. The maintenance will implement new features and functionality as a part of our increasing efforts to expand our web site and community services for our users. We will be sure to notify users at least one hour ahead of time, so that active users can save any work in-progress and not lose any content that they attempt to submit while the web site is temporarily offline. Aelyria has been upgraded to version 3.1.3 of our website software engine. This is a significant features and functionality upgrade and enhances performance and options for our users across numerous areas of interaction and, most notably, on our Wiki software. The Aelyria Website was taken offline today at approximately 1:00 pm for urgent systems maintenance to correct a features and functionality bug. During this process, which endured a little under four hours, we also implemented some significant changes to the Aelyria Wiki software. As a consequence, the Aelyria Wiki software and its features are currently in flux. Some features and functionality (such as templates and wiki articles) are currently depreciated while I work in real-time to implement the new system. Users may see strange or mysterious behavior on the appearance and layout of Wiki-related articles. This is normal until this live maintenance is complete.
If any of you encounter serious bugs, please post them here. Thank you so much for your patience, and stay tuned for new information regarding the upgraded and improved Wiki!

This Week, the Aelyria Website will be undergoing an update to improve efficiency and expand our foundation for several new features and functional services we will be offering our users. Total downtime for the maintenance should not be more than fifteen to twenty minutes. We will be advising users at least an hour before the update in a real-time site-wide broadcast, so that users can plan to save their work accordingly. Preparing your posts on an external word processor before cutting-and-pasting into Aelyria during this window is advisable so that users do not lose any work during the brief downtime. [Tech] System Maintenance on March 6, 2010 |

The Cloud's engineering team will be performing several upgrades to the Aelyria infrastructure in the Dallas / Fort Worth, TX ("DFW") data center to enhance stability and performance. The maintenance is scheduled to last two (2) hours, beginning on the morning of March 6 at 12:00 AM CST and ending at 2:00 AM CST. While connectivity to Aelyria during this window will be intermittent, at some times Aelyria may appear to be offline. As always, the Cloud will do everything to keep interruptions to an absolute minimum.
During this maintenance window, engineering will be performing a series of software upgrades and disk space additions to our storage array to increase capacity, stability, and scalability. These upgrades will also allow us to further optimize our storage array's performance, equating to faster data load times for Aelyria applications and better stability. Seven days ago, a massive 7.1 earthquake struck a few miles away from Port-au-Prince, the capital of grief-stricken Haiti. Hundreds of thousands are feared dead, the entire capital city is in ruins, and Haiti has been destroyed. Since that terrible tragedy and yesterday's recurring 6-level tremor, so many of you have been sharing the generous and loving spirit that all Aelyrians share in common and asking for us to coordinate a way to get relief to the people of Haiti. After some research, I have decided to link prominently to the Network for Good, which offers a one-stop portal for reputable charities that are dealing with the crisis in Haiti.

[Tech] Cloud Issues this Evening |

We have been made aware of some issues apparently affecting The Cloud, specifically, the Cloud's Database servers, and are currently investigating the issues with Cloud technical staff. We will provide updates as they become available.
Update: The Database Cluster used by Aelyria on The Cloud was corrupted by another customer at approximately 8:00 pm Eastern Time. Cloud technicians repaired the error caused at around 11:00 pm, and I performed a simple repair of our on-site database at approximately 11:10 pm. Users may notice inaccurate/incorrect "Last Post / Last Thread" information, but this information will slowly be brought back up-to-date as users resume posting. The Aelyria Web Site and our software has been steadily upgraded over the past few weeks since moving to The Cloud, and I am now thrilled to unveil Site Update 3.1.2. These enhancements to features and functionality on our web site continue to set the foundation for us to prepare a better organization of our materials to provide our end-users with a cleaner, more stream-lined experience. Some components, like our navigation buttons and iconography, will continue to undergo stylistic changes as we tinker with better and more proven methods of user experience improvements. However, you should consider this patch a first step for some solid improvements to the end-user experience.
