Examples of factions and guilds include a large aristocratic family pursuing their birthright, a guild of craftsmen and artisans protecting their trade, and a political organization seeking to influence officials and advance their agenda. Guilds are not limited to the overt, however; other factions might include a gang of thieves prowling the streets of a lawless metropolis, a fleet of pirate ships roaming the seas in search of treasure, or a company or regiment of soldiers in the service of the realm.
