Description:

Built with love, this Kemite structure is located in the heart of the kitsume district amongst other structures that are not so Kemite in origins. Comprised of a three-tiered wavy roof, this two story structure is deceptive in its size. The front part of the building is a small shop that houses decks of tarot cards, sets or runes, crystal globes, water bowls and charts that outline the palm of the hand hanging ornately from the wall. The center of the room is dominated by a silk draped table that a normal lamp sits upon. It's used for when Kalista Ambarando sits down with a client to do her readings. The floor is lined with thick velvet blue carpet, and the walls are painted with bright shades of green and blue. Even the windows are draped with colorful silk.

Once you walk through the doors, Kalista will hear the bells chime gently and greet you at the front of the shop to keep you out of the back, which is her private residence. "Sastimos! Can I help you with something day?" She will invariably ask, a friendly smile on her face.

Vanderlou is an upstanding Citizen
TS: Early-Mid Kalendryas, in the Season of Winter, Era I of the Celestine Mandate, Era XV Post Fractum.

Even if he did have the blood of the incredibly superstitious vagarans flowing through his veins Vanderlou wasn't really the kind of person who placed much stock in fortune telling. Nevertheless he was a capricious person when the mood took him and thus it wasn't unheard of for him to do unusual things on a whim.

He entered the shop, hands buried into his pockets because it was cold. Around him were an assortment of fortune-telling paraphernalia, cards, crystalballs and other things which he had never encountered before. It wasn't long before he found what he was looking for, the person who was minding the store - Kalista Ambarado.

"I'd like to have my future read."
and there, he said it so plainly too. Certainly that was what fortunetellers did wasn't it? "And how much would it cost me?"

Vanderlou

Kalista, hearing the bells above the door, appeared from behind thick blue curtains to approach. She smiled warmly and was obviously an Air'riela in dress and style. "Ahh.. .it's a good day for it, no? Please... sit." She said gently, gesturing to the silk draped table. "I'd be glad to read your future... and be it cards, by looking upon your hand, or tossing stones... even scrying in water for you... the cost varies. Do you have a preferred method or a price you'd wish to spend?" She asked, already bustling about to light a few candles and pull the elaborately decorated heavy screens across the windows. "Also, it helps me a bit for your questions to be specific, especially if you have a worry or concern. But if you do not, general readings are acceptable and I can do them of course." She said carefully. The woman was lovely, and moved with the grace of someone young and strong.

Kalista was easy on the eyes and she spoke with such a lyrical voice that the young adjurator was beginning to feel like he wouldn't regret splurging a little for something as impractical as fortune-telling.

"I'd like a card reading," Vanderlou really didn't plan on coming here so he hand nothing in particular to ask about. "A general reading, maybe something about my future I suppose? I really don't have a clue as to how these things work ma'am, but I'm not going to have to spend more than fifty crowns for a card reading am I?" he noticed that the gypsy was already pulling down the screens over the windows and it seemed as if there was no way of backing out now.

"Uhm, exactly how accurate are your readings lady... uhm... I haven't asked you for your name yet have I?" he immediately half-bowed while still seated. "I'm Vanderlou, sorry if I forgot to introduce myself... To be honest I'm still rather skeptical about fortune telling, do I have to believe for it to be accurate?" he wasn't sure if faith played a part in the workings of this particular craft but he felt like he had to ask.

The young gypsy smiled. "I can do readings that last candlemarks for clients that demand every detail and those run to expensive for they take lots of effort. For you though, I can do a simple three card spread that will take no more than a half candlemark. I charge 25 gold crowns a candlemark, so that should be well within your budget." She said, already pulling her cards out. She smiled at him as she sat down across from him and reached out to shake his hand at the introduction.

"I'm Kalista, and you should not be so nervous. I do not bite. They are only words and they cannot hurt you. As for if they are accurate, you shall see, I suppose. Only time will tell the truth of it. Its best, I think, to let what the cards say be judged for what they are as the future comes to unfold. You will either be back, or you will not be. All of this depends greatly on what they say."
She said gently, then pulled out her deck. She shuffled the wooden cards, and laid three out for him to see. "Ahh... here we go. Past, present, and future." She said softly.

The first card Kalista turned over showed a man locked in ice. She frowned, glanced at him, and looked up. The man didn't appear to be dead, but he did indeed seemed trapped. "Pahome... it means frozen. This is your past. In the past you were locked up emotionally and mentally... even physically. You had no motivations and no ability to go anywhere. I often see prisoners or young people just leaving their homes with this card. It means that right now you are tasting the wind... wanting more freedom, but you have a lack of experience, Vanderlou, and so you must be cautious." The gypsy said, looking worried or a moment. Then she flipped over the next cad.

The next one depicted a man standing at a fork in the road, where one main highway split off into two smaller tracks. One was well worn and the other was overgrown. "Vala... choice. Very soon you will be making a choice and it will offer you all the opportunities in the world. But see this? See the raven on the sign post? That means trouble... it means you won't think of the choice as one you actually made. It will be a forced choice, but in the end it will be one you will either accept or not." Kalista said gently, though she glanced at the overgrown path, more than once... and then back at Vanderlou... it was as if she knew which way he was going to go.

Finally, the young gyspy flipped over the third card. She frowned at it, because in turning the card over, it showed an ancient gypsy on it. "Púrodad, or grandfather. This is an odd card, because it can mean two different things. It can means you will become a person in control... someone of authority... or that you will help someone through a change, someone in grave need." Kalista frowned, then pulled two other cards seemingly randomly from the deck. She laid them over the Grandfather and nodded.

"Tonpad... The Priest... you've had religious training. Your advice and guidance will be needed with this person." The card showed a wise priest offering comfort to the masses. She pointed to the other card. "Zor... strength... the lion. But its a troubled strength... and a woman. Do you know who this is?" She asked, showing Vanderlou the card and pointing at the lion. "She's very close or will be, and in pain and need." Kalista said thoughtfully.

Pahome? Was he really frozen? He didn't really think that was the right word for his past. Sure it had been boring, maybe even plain but he didn't feel like he had been idling about. Then again these past few months had graced him with more experiences with things both strange and new than he would have seen had he stayed on working as a waiter in Daltina.

Vala, the choice? A forced choice? Well there was nothing new there, most of the time he really hadn't had the luxury of choosing though he was somewhat comforted by what the woman said about him having a say in accepting or rejecting that decision that would be made for him.

Púrodad, the grandfather? A person of authority or a guide to help someone change? Maybe both? Wasn't he already doing that much these days, as an adjurator he had been guiding all sorts of lost souls to find peace but he had never fancied himself a person of authority. Really, the gypsy was proving to be a most entertaining fortuneteller and obviously this one had more than a little skill judging by her more or less perfect approximation of the events that had unfolded in his past.

Tonpad and Zor... A woman? In pain and in need no less?

Vanderlou blinked, a glitter of urgency visible in his eyes. He wasn't sure if he was up to that, helping the dead was one thing but he didn't have qualities that had ever helped him with women before. "But I don't know any girl like that, besides I have enough trouble dealing with my own problems... How can I fix someone else's - and a girl no less." he slumped in his chair and was bothered by the fact that the card readings seemed to be affecting him more than he had expected it to.

"I'm sorry, but I think this is all the fortune-telling I can take for one brightening." he produced twenty-five crowns, placing them on the woman's desk with trembling hands. "You're a wonderful fortune-teller though, I'll be sure to mention of your services to the people I meet." and really, she was. She had told him of her past and present with great accuracy and she had told him about things he didn't want to hear, Kalista was definitely both genuine and skilled.
