Current State of Zinn'Sunn
Quoted history courtesy of Sonya
Quote:
In the beginning there was only one Inn - The Wolfmoon Inn.
The Academy housed the Vanguard of Zinn'Sunn, which is the military. The leader of the Vanguard, general Vimes, took over the Thaneship. He was being kidnapped.
There was a tournament going on in the Wolfmoon Inn and Tavern.
The city was attacked by an Undead army led by a Necromancer witch. The city had asked Mystique for help. The citizens armed themselves and were fighting the Undead without much help from local military forces. They might have defeated the Undead anyway, but victory was assured when a (small?) teleported force of Thaumaturgies from Mystique showed up. The leader of that force killed the witch and became Thane (Jaecob Herne).
The new Thane disbanded the Vanguard and outlawed weapons for anyone but the city’s police. Honets (PC) objected and met with the Thane to discuss the matter. An unknown assailant tried to murder the Thane at the end of the meeting, just as fires broke out in the main governmental buildings. Honets saved the wounded Thane, but ended up being accused of trying to murder him. Honets proved his innocence to the injured Thane’s son (Archthaumaturgy Glefton Herne (NPC)), who had shown up to see his father and the son ended up being granted the title of Thane himself, during his father’s incapacity.
The monastary was comprised of one master of the art and a handful of students who remained loyal to him and the art, even through the time of the vanguard. During the uprising he and his students gave Herne a hand where he needed it, and, in return, was granted to once again return to practicing their art, only this time out in the open as the art reflects peace within their environment, and balance within nature.
About the fire, after the compound is completely destroyed, the Imperial Government assigned a new Thane. The weapons law no longer exists. Zinn'Sunn's academy was revamped so that only the following Arcana's were taught there: Sorcery, Song, Ikos. A 4th sphere is taught at the Monestary: Mysticism. Ataa is the main form of unarmed combat at the Monestary.
The weapons shops reopened.
The academy offers also learning to sing and play an instrument,
In response to the Fae conflict and Julos' demand to execute all Fae discovered. Zinn'Sunn's position on this is against Julos and they are instead giving sanctuary to any Fae who wish to have it. So far, 5,000+ Fae have come to Zinn'Sunn for protection. Every citizen was given the opportunity to take a blade and armor from a very substantial supply at the gates of the city, and introductory training was also offered free to all takers. There was no.
The season is Autumn. the Month of Kalendryas. Telath is in the Third Era of the Celestine Mandate. (October 12th, 2003) - There is to be a City Meeting in the Zinn Concert Hall at the Zinn'Sunn Musical Academy. It has been called and arranged by acting Thane, Glefton Herne and is in regards to his father's condition and future plans for the City of Zinn'Sunn. There was talk of a ‘secret’ group called the Sword Singers that was going to reveal itself at a celebration. The Order of the SwordSinger was a secret order operating in Zinn'Sunn for hundreds of patterns already. They have just recently made a public announcement to become a public Order at a banquet at the Academy. They had to do it a bit early/and unofficially in the "Call to Arms!" thread. They will still do it at the banquet. Herne has surfaced as a member of that Order, the leader of which is a Grand Master, Lord Shaun.
The Thane, before the current one, outlawed all weapons in Zinn'Sunn. This naturally had lead to people sneaking weapons to protect themselves from criminals that have kept them. Even though this law is no longer in affect, there would still be animosity from the couple street gangs in town that broke out during that time. There were around 4 gangs: The Dragons, 103, Sons of Zinn and The Snakes.
The gang 103 hit the music shop. the shop owners considered it normal, annoying... but normal. Ever since the music shop was robbed, the Thane has been cracking down on the use of weapons, which has had no effect on the gangs, but only the people of the town who had an illegal weapon only for protection. The police has been working nonstop, but three deputies have been killed all ready, and several more injured on an attempted raid. There seems to be around five gangs. Since the Thane's crack down, four more shops and hold ups have occurred.
The fire that had once started by a gang upon the old monestary of the martial artists had spread into a fire that raged in the city. For three days it burned, sending the whole city high in the sky in the form of smoke. Most escaped, except the most immobile of the elderly and those who were caught unawares. However, Over ninty-five percent escaped out to the woods which became the new home for the night. The government of Zinn Sunn was no longer in existence: the Lord Thane, Glefton Herne, while despite his greatest efforts in fighting the fire with his magic, was killed as well as the prefect of the city. Luckily practitioners of the Zinn Ka arts named themselves temporary leaders and protectors of the people, and met little opposition, and were actually quite appreciated. They were skilled, and they were trusted in the city as having a great reputation. The third day signaled a large change as well: the thousands of Fae whom had sought solace from persecution left. In a mass, they flew west, and leaving behind now a mostly Kemite mass.
The new city was beginning to take shape. Each day more and more wooden houses were springing up. The new city was still near site of the old one, and a group of strong men, aided by the Zinn Ka, as they were now being called, began a small palisade which encircled three hills. The city was becoming more and more a city.
A week after the fire, everyone had semi decent housing, but now the real problem was coming: food. The supplies of berries and animals were running short. Luckily the rice fields began blooming, and they harvested a portion of the crop early. Within the next week, Seven large barns were erected, and several caves cleared out, awaiting the supply of food which would sustain them. Luckily the merchants still came.
Fifteen days after the fire, the old city, now called the black city, was now encircled with Zinn's Inhabitance, who had built a ring of city around the old. Palisades were almost complete, and the Zinn Ka had rebuilt a monastery.
The government was now run by the leader of the Zinn Ka, Yasho Hijoko, one of the wisest, learned, and in his prime, strongest men in all of Zinn Sunn. The people respected him. He set up a temporary headquarters, and had banned access to the old city until crews could say it was safe. The city had left much wood unstable, and the ash was piled high. Yasho didn't call himself Thane, simply Haro' Tash, which translated from Kemite is "respectable Defender"
The entire city was destroyed by fire, but a follow-up article said that the “fire” was mostly illusion. Thane Glefton Herne probably died in the fire. Guards were set at the gates of the old city to keep people from re-entering the old city.
Now though the old city has been re-opened and integrated with the new, people return to their former lives...Zinn'Sunn is reborn.
