Orbril is an upstanding Citizen
Beneath the grandstands at Minith Feild (Mod)

Whilst exploring the city Orbril eventually found his way to the area around Minith Field and the Arena. The area was comforting the green reminded him of home and the Saucer reminded him of the similar feature near Daltina were he'd first established the old circus.
He would have to find a way to keep Serale away from the goats, but the gnome decided, this might make a good place to set up a burrow.

As a gnome he liked to burrow, burrows were safe and it was not uncommon for urbanised gnomes to 'borrow' space beneath the floorboards of others when setting up their own personal burrow. He didn't mind the spiders and insects or even the rats since they all made for good eating if prepared in the right way.

He looked towards the grandstand and decided to investigate.

First he would need to find some convinient entrance, be it a crack or hole or a loose board, or perhaps he would have to dig one himself. Once that was found then he could do the serious business of finding a comfortable place to dwell...

OOC ~ ok you got a mod lets see what happens when you set up home

IC~ A great deal of work had already been done in the preparation of Minith field for the forthcoming festivities by the council of enthusiasts that compromised the over sight committee. The field was the obvious choice for the contests of athletic prowess and once the herd of goats had been led away the grass was nice and short in the area that was to be the field of the contest. The goats grazed happily away in a corner of the big field under an old oak tree penned ready for the time where their unique grass cutting services were required again.

The field was roughly circular and surrounded by mature trees a stream ran around the bottom end of Minith field perhaps three quarters of a kilometre away from the central games area. The central point of the field was luckily enough for the organisers a bowl. Perhaps before time began it had been the crater of a volcano but no one remembered , it was simply called Miniths’ Saucer a natural circular amphitheatre with a circumference of nigh on 400 metres. Perfect as a sporting venue as spectators could stand around the “saucer” and cheer their favourites as they performed in the “
saucer”

A gentle slope allowed access to the rim of the saucer and in the area below the saucer tradesmen were setting up stalls to sell foodstuffs of myriad variety and barrels of good Spring Zerdargian ale. Unfortunately none of the aforesaid goodies had arrived yet but the promise of epicurean riches was there .

A grand stage area had been erected at the northern point of the saucer over looking the playing area, this was to be the place that the toffs would sit to watch the events but for the moment it was vacant, hollow underneath and draped with rich velvet material the “toffs would reach their seats a metre above the bottom floor space by virtue of steps placed either side of the stage,

Underneath the stage was a hollow box of heavy wooden timbers perhaps 15 metres long by a metre high. Struts every half metre preserved its integrity and strength , it needed a great deal of strength because to a man and woman the toffs were all rather plump. Gaps in the floor timbers allowed cool air to rise up from the ground and the opportunity for a little illicit burrowing.

With a quick glance around Orbril crawled under the velvet draped over the stage leaving it slightly open to provide a measure of light. Squeezing through a wider enough gap he found himself within the hollow underneath. The shadows dappling the e=interior and casting up strange shapes and patches of darkness but for a gnome these things were a part of daily life and he grinned triumphantly - by gnome standards this place, with the floor soaring a metre overhead, was huge; even Serale might be able to sleep indoors.

"I do like it" the gnome said to himself as he went and checked on the struts.
They were strong and would provide good anchor points for anything he might add, and the cross beams and braces would be convinient for hanging things on and perhaps even for storage although he might have to add shelves for that. So he needed string, containers, hammer and nails and some spare planks of wood (hopefully there would be off cuts left in the area by the builders) and a waterproof canvas too he noted.

But first he need to find a clear spot of course, somewhere without a draught and with shelter from the rain, the gaps in the timber were an inconvinience in that regard but not overly so. A meter by a meter should be big enough to start close enough to a good entrance but not too close so he'd be seen.

He'd need a system for storing water too since a daily hike to the stream seemed tiresome, although their was the temptation of goats milk should he have the gumption.
And of course there was plenty to eat, he thought to himself as he pounced on a bug and bit down on its shell and the festival would mean all manner of other food stuffs were going to be arriving to supplement his more basic diet

If there is one overarching natural law in nature and the cosmos and stated in the most simplest terms it is the following . When organising a festival there will always be in a corner hidden away from Joe public’s gaze a dump!

Dumps evolve in a direct proportion to the number of men on site and in the Zerdargian festivals case man power or to be more correct dwarf power was plentiful. Off cuts of timber pile up spare bits of material lie forgotten, all manner of slightly bent nails find their way to the dump. Lost tools of the “I swear it was here a candlemark ago” type turn up at the dump. Furniture of all sizes and shapes thought lost can be found. How these items arrive at the dump is a mystery beyond the wit of the finest philosophers. One theory propounds that dumps have the ability to create their own faint magical fields and attract lost items like a magnet. Of course the properties of magnetic fields are unknown in Aelyria so the theory is completely crack pot !

But the fact remains behind the organisers tent was one such dump a dump of dumps full of interesting items that would fill the temporary accommodation of an enterprising gnome.

OOC ~ have fun, unfortunately there is nothing in the dump which could be described as having any negotiable wealth.

Clearing a spot that had good clearances, was away from major draughts and seemed to be relatively dry and relatively flat Orbril nodded happily. His time in Zerdagia was looking to be a success. Of course the night was still ahead and he still hadn't made any major acquaintences but that would happen, he'd have to visit an Inn.

But before that their was still plenty of light in the sky and Orbril was still exploring. It was thus that he came upon the dump site behind the tents and with his mouth open and his eyes wide Orbril looked upon a treasure hoard of planks, nails, tools, rope, pipes, pots, canvas and every conceivable item for a gnomes borrowing.

So the gnome got busy straigtening nails and building a framework beneath the stage over which was draped and tied thick sheets of canvas and other cloth to make a water proof roof and awning, thick wall curtains, a hammock and storage nets. He could use pipes for transporting water from a large bucket and he had boxes and crates to use as cupboards and tables. By banking up enough soil around its sides he could convert another bucket and a iron plate into an oven and stove and if he dug the pit beneath it deep enough he could even handle a fire without threatening to burn the place down. More pipes would be needed to get the smoke out however so that might need some thinking.

The gnome worked until darkness and then satisfied set out to look for an Inn...
