Zerdargia Veldar Elite Recruitment Center
The old office in the grounds of the barracks of the Veldar Elite had been down at heel and a complete mess but that was before CSM Stonethrottle had passed a disapproving eye over this shabby affair. It had taken merely a single brightening for the transformation. Whitewash had been employed on the outside of the building. the door was a shiny black. The inside was painted blue the famous blue of the Veldar Elite uniform. Paintings dragged from the attic of the sergeants mess depicting battle and triumphs of yore adorned the walls a battle standard torn from the grasping hand of an Orc still bearing dark blood stains hung proudly on the wall.
An office that told in part a brave story of courage and honour of the famous old regiment. Behind the single desk sat corporal Kelp Goldbrick a sturdy young dwarf with black hair which he wore in a plait down his back. He had just been promoted and you could tell he was nervous, but very efficient looking. He had not only done well in his basic training, but he had earned the title of Company Clerk, of which he was proud. He wore elaborately tooled black leather armour he had made himself, having been taught leather work as a boy and young man. His blue uniform was creased to military sharpness.
Attached to the black front door of the recruitment offices was a sign

Kelp had spent a long time with the company sergeant major who had hand picked him as the face and figure of recruitment . His final words were still ringing in his ears
We got problems corporal, we used to be a proud regiment but no more. All we are is a city militia, our time is spent guarding gates and the jail doing protection work for the elite of the city and chasing mucky little criminals and walking our feet off patrolling the city. We have not got the manpower to be a proper fighting regiment any more. Your task is to use …all your skills…. to get more men to sign up to the force.
Taking a seat behind his desk he awaits the first recruit. His confidence makes his young voice deep and resonant as he greets you. "Searle, recruit, what can I do for you today."

The First Brightening of Cryxatum, Spring of Era XV pf
Nurias was ready to begin the walk of his adulthood by showing his loyalty of the clan to the Veldar and join up. The new ideals of the dwarves showing care and concern for their clan and their people above all things. Nurias had accepted the new sense of dwarven pride having lost clansmen in the Zerdargian War. He felt compelled to serve so that their death was not meaningless and so that those still alive could live longer.
Nurias walked into the Veldar Elite's recruiting area and was baffled to see an elven woman accepting the recruits. Why would the dwarves, who were changing their mode of conecern to be dwarves above all else, use a female elf for dwarves to be recruited by? He was almost unable to speak when she asked how she could help.
"I em 'ere ta join tha Veldars in onor o me Clan, Clan Derisson. I got no probs with dis form cept I was lookin fer hammer trainin as me weapon o choice. Me bein a blacksmith an all. This be possible?"

3rd Cycle of Cryxatum This was just a stepping stone for Arkas to make it on his way of becoming one of the most successful miners in all history. Arkas made his way into the recruitment center and looked the place over, not too impressed he carried on with his mission.
Making it towards the recruitment desk Arkas began reading all of the materials posted around him. Confused he looked up to the recruiter and gave a look of frustration, "I am here to sign up to be a reservist! I guess, whatever the clan is asking of me is what I will do. I dont care what weapon...where do I sign?"

ooc: sorry about the NPC, I changed her to a him, not so pretty but at least a dwarf.
Nurias
Kelp looked at the face of his first recruit of the day. "Aye, so yer here to get in yer basic trainin'. Bein' from Clan Derisson you know that ye have to swear allegience to the Veldar and Zerdargia. To protect her from all attack and harm. To be loyal and courageous in battle and obey yer commanding officer.
He stood up and faced Nurias, "Do you so swear? On your life? In the name of yer Clan?"
Arkas
Kelp had just come out of Sgt. Stonethrottle's office when he saw Arkas standing in front of his desk. "Yer here to enlist in the Veldar? Which clan are ye?"

Nurias looked the corporal Goldbrick up and down, not trying to weigh him, just imagining what it took to earn the rank. He was a young soldier much like Nurias would be. He may have looked nervous, but Goldbrick also held a confidence that spoke of his belief in The Veldar. What was asked of Nurias was a no brainer.
"You kin bet yer sweet arse I swear ta such things. I give me life ta both me clan and the city o Zerd in protection o all dwarves. I plan ta race to the front lines o any problems that arise that call me into service as a reservist. You need me ta swear anything else?"

Arkas quickly responded, "That I am! I am sorry Arkas Belrak of the Clan Derisson."

Nurias
Corporal Goldbrick thrust a paper in his hands, "then sign here that you so swear, and I'll be getting yer gear. What weapon do ye want to train with?"
Arkas
The young dwarf nodded his head, "Arkas Belrack, aye, so yer here to get in yer basic trainin'. Bein' from Clan Derisson you know that ye have to swear allegience to the Veldar and Zerdargia. To protect her from all attack and harm. To be loyal and courageous in battle and obey yer commanding officer.
He stood up and faced Arkas, "Do you so swear? On your life? In the name of yer Clan?"
What's yer weapon of choice? If ye have no preference, we need hammar. We've got another recruit starting. Ye can take training with him if ye want."
If ye're ready to start just sign this paper and I'll get ye yer gear.

Nurias was excited when the corporal set down the papaers for him to sign. It marked the beginning of his life, his devotion to Zerdargia, and his loyalty to the clan. It was important for him to display such feelings as did all dwarves. They may not be the emotional wrecks that humans were since they displayed their rough exterior like a bird ruffled its feathers, but dwarves were emotionally loyal to their kind. He signed the form feeling that his life was just beginning and hoped to live three hundred mre eras to prove his devotion.
"Moy weapon o choice is tha hammer. I wanna crack skulls and leave tha dicin' to tha other dwarves."

Arkas nodded his head once more and smiled. His pearly white teeth could be seen peeking out of his full beard. "I had one question before I swear my life away.... Do you all have both enlisted and officer positions in the Veldar? And for those that are active duty whats the pay?" Arkas asked out of curiousity.

Nurias
Kelp took the paper away from Nurias and went in the back room. He came out carrying a blue uniform of the Veldar Elite, handing it to Nurias. "Ye can wear this uniform of the recruits when you are here training. When you have completed your weapons training you will be issued yer armor and helmet of the Veldar. Yer instructor will be Sgt. Magnus Burk. He will start with basic hammer. Do ye have any questions?"
Arkas
Kelp took back the paper after Arkas signed it. As to his question, he smiled, then motioned for him to sit down. "I'll jest have Col. Stonethrottle come out and talk to ye." Kelp went in to the comanding officer's office. In a few minutes he came out and pointed at Arkas.
Col. Stonethrottle motioned for Arkas to come into his office, "Corporal Goldbrick told me you might be interested in joining up for the Veldar Elite Regulars." The Col sat down at his desk and pulled out some papers. "I will give you this to look over while I tell you how you can become Zerdargia's finest and best. Ye can go as far as yer bravery can take ye. Everyone starts off the same."

As the Col. walked into the room Arkas stood up straight and looked him into the eye. "Hmm well I tell you what Col. can I join as a reservist and later sign up for active duty ?" Arkas reviewed the papers and looked them up and down.
Turning back to the recruiter he smiled and licked his lips, "Does the Veldar Elite not have a section that is non-combat related. Something relating to engineering or the sort?" Arkas asked before signing the papers.

The Third Brightening of Cryxatum, Spring of Era XV
The Dwarf needed something to do, so what better way to get rid of boredom than to take up the job of a soldier? Thus it was he found himself inside the recruiting office of the Veldar. He merely stood in front of the Corporal, looking him up and down with an inquiring eye as he contemplated what to do. "I wanna be signin’ up, I do," he said finally, in his native Dwarf tongue. "Jus’ go on ahead an’ gimme th’ paperwork an’ I’ll get my signature on it." the fact he couldn’t read or write was no obstacle. Nine hells, he bet that the Veldar could teach him anything he wanted to learn. He’d get to that when he had to, but for now, he’d see what was coming up.

Arkas
"Well, man, yer welcome to Zerdargia Veldar, even if its as a reservist. We do have a crazy old coot, Msgt. Burk in the engineering office, or workshop, but he's crazy and hard to get along with. He also might blow ye up, but yer welcome to be assigned there, if ye've a mind ta. If ye change yer mind and wanta come in regular, ye can do it anytime. Cpl. Goldbrick will get ye yer uniform.
Cpl. Goldbrick gave Arkas his blue uniform, shirt and pants. "This is all ye'll need as a recruit. Ye'll get yer pay started at the United Clan Bank. They pay out the first of each month. That will be 200 g.c. per month. Enjoy yer assignment," he said snickering a little behind Arkas' back. He knew the Msgt and how crazy he was.
Derrick
Cpl Goldbrick saw an eager recruit before him. "Be ye new to Zerdargia, mate," he said handing the dwarf some papers. "Ye a member of a clan, if not, then we got barracks here. New recruits will be mustered in the brightening so ye'll have a time afore ta get settled. The barracks are plain, but solid. Each is what might be called a cubicle, with a bed, footlocker, hanging rack fer yer issue."
"So ye can't read nor write, not a problem, jest make yer X here," he said pointing to a blank line." Kelp went into the back room and came out with recruit blues, a blue shirt and blue pants. "Here's the issue ye get here. Muster is at 5 am when the bugle blows, ye'll be formally sworn in then." After getting back the X on the paper, Kelp, told Derrick, "Now upon this paper you must swear an oath, the young dwarfen corporal came around the desk and said, "Derrick Stoneblood ye have to swear allegience to the Veldar and Zerdargia. To protect her from all attack and harm. To be loyal and courageous in battle and obey yer commanding officer. Do ye so swear, on yer life, for Zerdargia!"
OOC: We're still working on the Veldar and pay so .... soon I'll give more details. Set up a barracks thread and I'll moderate. Welcome.

Oh, he couldn’t help it. When the Corporal assumed he couldn’t even write his name, Derrick had to resist the urge to chuckle. He might not have been able to read or write well, but his name, he had learned. Still, what could he do other than what he was ordered? Marking an "X" where indicated, he handed the parchment back. When the Corporal asked "Do you swear-" he interjected with "No, I try not ta, but I be knowin’ all tha words, lad," his face dead serious while a slight twinkle in his eye, hidden behind fiery red bangs, the only proof he knew what he was doing.
After he got that last bit out of the way, he nodded. "I swear on me life an’ kin, for Zerdargia," he said, not even blinking at the fact the last of his kin had died long ago. What the Veldar didn’t know wouldn’t kill him, and besides, what was the harm of a wee bit of fun?
