[Zerdargian Festival] Registration for competitors [AGM fetch]
Time stamp [spring details to be entered later] Era XV
It's matter of some pride to the dwarfs that they are essentially an efficient race. If it can be organised then by “The blue beard of Jalat” you will find a dwarf with a clip board stomping around and being busy.
The organisation of the competitors was relatively straight forwardand it costs 25 crowns up to 4 events and a 100 crown maximum for 5 or more.
So potential competitors put their name down on the “LIST” and a few straightforward questions have to be answered on the card.
Name ~
Race ~
Event entered ~
Experience ~
Games nickname ~ |
|
|
This information would be made available to the competition announcers and commentators on the various events. So it was considered wise not to choose a nickname that could be used against one. But some people never learn!

LIST OF GAMES (may be modified or edited prior to games' start)
CABER TOSS
A long tapered pine pole or log is stood upright and hoisted by the competitor who balances it vertically holding the smaller end in his hands. Then the competitor runs forward attempting to toss it in such a way that it turns end over end with the upper (larger) end striking the ground first. The smaller end that was originally held by the athlete then hits the ground in the 12 o'clock position measured relative to the direction of the run. If successful, the athlete is said to have turned the caber. Competitors are judged on how closely their throws approximate the ideal 12 o'clock toss on an imaginary clock.
STONE PUT
1. The "Burk Stone" uses a 20–26 lb stone for men (13–18 lb for women) and does not allow any run up to the toeboard or "trig" to deliver the stone, i.e., it is a standing put.
2. In the "Denisson Stone" using a 16–22 lb stone for men (or 8–12 lb for women), the thrower is allowed to use any throwing style so long as the stone is put with one hand with the stone resting cradled in the neck until the moment of release. Most athletes in the open stone event use either the "glide" or the "spin" techniques.
DWARVEN HAMMER THROW
In the Dwarven event, a round metal ball (weighing 16 or 22 lb for men or 12 or 16 lb for women) is attached to the end of a shaft about 4 feet in length and made out of wood. With the feet in a fixed position, the hammer is whirled about one's head and thrown for distance over the shoulder. Hammer throwers sometimes employ specially designed footwear with flat blades to dig into the turf to maintain their balance and resist the centrifugal forces of the implement as it is whirled about the head. This substantially increases the distance attainable in the throw.
WEIGHT OVER THE BAR
also known as weight for height. The athletes attempt to toss a 56 pound (4 stone) weight with an attached handle over a horizontal bar using only one hand. Each athlete is allowed three attempts at each height. Successful clearance of the height allows the athlete to advance into the next round at a greater height. The competition is determined by the highest successful toss with fewest misses being used to break tie scores.
JOUSTING
Two contestants shall face each other, sword and shield in hand, in a ten foot circle. The first jouster to push the other out of the circle wins. No hands may be used except with sword. Bodyweight can factor in the push but each contestant shall only use swords on the other's shield.
DRINKING CONTEST
Contestant who drinks 5 two pint of ale fastest is winner. Ale must end up in mouth not beard. No more than 10 contestents in one contest.
AXE THROWING
stumps will be placed at 10 foot increments. The farthest throw with the axe landing in the middle of the stump wins.
PICKAXE (BOULDER BUSTING)
Two large stones are placed in a circle. Two contestents have three tries to break the boulder into small pieces. The one with the most pieces wins.

Timestamp: Spring Era XV.
Having spent the last few months of winter in his race’s ancestral surface home of Zerdargia, Coulter Minith was well rested and prepared for the Zerdargian Festival. Like probably every entrance into the games, the young four-foot tall dwarf was planning on winning everything and anything to show not only fellow dwarfs, but non-dwarfs alike who the really warriors of the Kingdom where.
Not wanting to hide from any future opponents, the young black-bearded dwarf was the first person of any race to appear the ‘LIST’. Picking up the quill, Coulter Minith would write these words.
Name: Coulter Minith.
Race: Dwarfen, and proud of it.
Events: Caber Toes, Stone Put, Jousting, DRINKING CONTEST, Axe Throwing, Pickaxe, Story Telling, Archery Competition and Wrestling.
Experience: I’ve been smacking orcs around for eras, and drinking since before me first hair.
Games Nickname: The Dwarfen Destroyer.
Having therefore entered as many competitions as the young dwarf thought he would be able to handle, and paying the 100 golden crowds in the process, the experienced dwarfen adventurer would sit back and look upon the competition as they signed up.

Spring, Era XV
Holland read the sign with glee. He loved a festival. It allowed him to mingle with the folk who visited the bakery. Holland read the physical events and decided to skip the grueling tests, leaving it for the younger groups.
He rubbed his chin when he saw the storyteller event. He had told stories in the past, and he had known quite a few interesting dwarves.
He took the quill and signed up for the event.
Name: Holland
Race: Human
Event entered: Story Telling
Experience: I've known interesting dwarves. I would like to tell the story of Dwermond the Dwarf, winning the battle of Coldmoon Ruins.
Holland returned the quill and tapped his purse. He had a few coin with him...thanks to his new job at the bakery.

Spring of XV
Dyllit found the registration area with little trouble--it was, after all, a main focus in the city these early brightenings of Spring. She stumped in and found herself a form to fill out and did so with ease...
Name: Dyllit Cavecrusher
Race: Dwarf
Event Entered: Drinking Contest, Axe Throwing
Experience: Can drink you under the table - make no mistake
Games Nickname: Crusher of the Stinky Bugger
She snorted out laughter as she filled in the last field, having not thought out in advance what sort of name she'd want for herself. She made sure that Yessir didn't see it and imagined that he wouldn't be very happy with her when they announced it.
She paid the entry fee and wandered out again.

Spring Era XV
Yessir finally found and got his way up to the sign up table with a few well timed farts that made people run, others stood their ground and held their nose, one even fainted (Those are aren't very common victims). He looked at the person giving out these sign up sheets and Yessir took a quill in one grubby hand and went to work.
Name ~Yessir Ifarhtord (Yase, I new wha'it seys!)
Race ~Dwarf
Event entered ~ Caber Toss, Axe Throwing, Drinking Contest, Jousting, Pickaxe, Stone Put, Original Poetry
Experience ~ I'mma wewdsman g'damnit! I cannae dew anayting!
Games nickname ~ Yessir "Yer Nawt Gunna 'scape cuz" Ifarhtord
"Aye'll b'seeing yew der laddies! Har! Yessir's n'town!" He gave the sheet back, the 100 crowns that was required and walked off. Oh it was going to be a fun time showing that thunderthighed cavecrusher who was on top.

Tylag found the tent where the registrants were putting down their names on the List. Tylag felt odd beign back in Zerdargia but hoped this festival would help bring back some of his dwarvenness which seemed to be losing bit by bit.
Tylag looked over the card and noticed the required information. The young dwarf paused when he noticed the last submission. The darf thought for a moment and then Tylag picked up the quill and wrote
Name ~ Tylag
Race ~ Ahh Dwarf.
Event entered ~ Drinking contest, Story telling, Wrestling, Jousting
Experience ~ I am a dwarf, fighting and drinking come naturally.
Games nickname ~ Outsider
Tylag then paid the 25 crwons entrant fee and left the tent

Sping of Era XV p.f.
Argo had entered the city just in time to find out there was a competition being held. He did not care about the event but figured the more he signed up for, the better chance he had of making a few coins. He was low on funds and had to find some cushion in his jingle bag until he could secure a job. He paid his one hundred crown fee knowing he would enter more than four contests, filled out the form, and then waited to find out where he was to go next.
Name ~ Argo Vindaine
Race ~ Half Giant
Event entered ~ Caber Toss, Stone Put, Dwarven Hammer Throw, Weight over the Bars, Boulder Busting, and Crafts (any Blacksmithing)
Experience ~ I've been around for a while; learned a thing or two in that time.
Games nickname ~ The Blacksmith

OOC: Argo. Welcome to Zerdargia. The caber toss thread is up so feel free to post. Remember to read the rules of the games first, however. If you need anything, please let me know.
IC: The dwarf took Argo's money. "Welcome to the games, here's wishin' ye luck ... The dates and place of each event is posted on the Bulletin Board in Cetheron Common. Any questions?"
