[Defence] Searching - Norin Baldor Troy

Norin’s squad pounded up the streets towards his chosen objective. The search was indeed chaotic as Troy had realised and it would have been better to spend the time trying to get a search plan organised, but time was something that they did not have and they would have the help of the citizenry as well so it should not take too long to locate anything that would be dangerous to the city.

As they squad moved out, Norin would need to decide how to organise the troops he had assumed command over if they actually found something.

Norin wanted infantry both in the front and the back as they searched the northern streets of the city. He wanted archers in the middle. This formation was meant to defend the squadron if an ambushed ever occured. They would begin by searching the main streets. While checking the streets at a hustle, Norin ordered his squadron to look down small side alleys for clues and hints. He was also looking for enemies to find out from where they came since they probably came from the portal.

He knew very well what he was going to do when he found it. He would convert the formation back to a tortoise formation. The archers in the back firing upon the most dangerous enemies while the infantry and Norin himself formed a wall of shields and spikes. This would defend them well while they could andvance into the ranks of the enemy.

Norin explained his plans to the squadron while he himself hustled furthest infront of the group of Veldars. He was looking all around him in case there were any hints to the location of the portal.

Troy's eyes darted all around him, searching for signs of enemies or anything of the sort that would give away the location of the portal. He would cast hurried glances down alley ways as he passed them, bow in hand, ready for battle.

The excitement of the impending battle was getting to him, he was smiling to himself as he carried on, wedged in the middle of Veldar soldiers. Rumors flitted about regarding the collapse of the front wall, hopefully the city would not be overrun.

Troy did his best to focus. They had to find that portal. More empty streets criss crossed the group's path, only showing more soldiers instead of enemies.

Where was this portal?

Amaros clinched his gladius in one hand and his shield in the other. He kept a vigilance for anything that needed to be killed. . .again. He began to get that feeling before every engagement he enters. His stomach would turn for a couple minutes then he would think back to the many men that had fallen by his sword and all his confidence would be regained. He was ready for anything and would continue that way.

The search went well and the members of the squad were vigilant. They had seen the fight at the gates with the deaths and injuries that had resulted. This was no practice exercise, this was the real thing and they responded well to the commands that Norin gave. The formation was adopted with a reasonable amount of smoothness, the long familiarity with the standard formations meant that even though the squad was not really yet a team, their professionalism allowed them to compensate.

But despite their vigilance, nothing was yet to be seen, the streets were quiet with a minimum of passers by and even the searches of the side streets and alleyways revealed no sign of the portal that they sought, though a few member of the criminal underworld made themselves scarce at the unexpected sight of the grim troops.

A sound of running feet attracted Norins attention and soon a messenger bypassed the squad and reported in to him. ”Orders from Captain Hammersmith. We have reports of the portal in the area around the B&D Anvil, and you are to get your troops there as fast as possible. Reinforcements will be coming from the Compound but we need your troops at the portal as fast as you can get them there.” Pausing only to ensure that the Sergeant had understood the orders, he dashed off in search of the next squad.

Norin's squad had come to work with the smoothness and effectivity that Norin had expected from every single Veldar Elite. He was proud to lead a party of Veldar soldiers who were so professional. Together they strode through the streets, jogging while trying to find the damn portal. Norin's heart almost didn't beat and he even almost forgot to breathe in the excitement.

Norin was not dissapointed as time went by and none of them found anything. On the contrary, he had expected such since he had no idea where the portal was. Norin disregarded the citizens of Zerdargia, including the criminals. They would be brought to justice one brightening but this brightening had to be spent ensuring their survival.

Suddenly, Norin halted his squadron. He heard running feet and suddenly saw a messenger come around the corner. The messenger reported to Norin.

"Orders from Captain Hammersmith. We have reports of the portal in the area around the B&D Anvil, and you are to get your troops there as fast as possible. Reinforcements will be coming from the Compound but we need your troops at the portal as fast as you can get them there."

The messenger continued through the streets of Zerdargia to bring the message to other squads. Norin turned to his squadron and spoke with a loud and booming voice, "Okay, listen up! The portal has been found. It's around B&D Anvil. I want to get there on the double but stay in your positions and be ready to assume a Tortoise formation when we get in trouble. COME ON!!! ON THE DOUBLE!!!"

Norin began dashing through the well known streets of Zerdargia towards B&D Anvil, one of the most reputated smith in Zerdargia. He hurried as fast as he could and tried not to let down his guard. At the same time as he led his squadron by running in the front line, he made sure that everyone from the squad could follow. He needed all the soldiers and didn't want to leave any of them behind.

Amaros's heart was pounding. He was ready for battle and was starting to itch when it didnt come. He was more relieved when the messanger came alerting the squad of the location of the portal. He tightened his grip on his weapon and moved with the group looking all around staying alert. He would be ready for anything.

Troy smiled, they had found the portal. It was only a matter of time now before he and the squad would get there. he would finally be getting some action.
On Beldwhig's oders, he knew he would have to go to the back with the archers when they got to the portal. Hopefully, he would use all fifteen of his arrows well before switching to melee combat.
The excitement was getting to him.

The squad made good time but as they hurried towards their objective sounds of battle echoed in the distance. Soon however, their attention was drawn by sounds of battle that were closer than they should have been.

The Sergeant needed to make a decision. Should they continue towards the objective that they were aiming for or should they divert and investigate this new threat

Amaros would also need to make the same decision as so far he was merely tagging along with the squad.

Amaros was moving with the squad when he heard the sounds of the battle near him. He had heard the sounds of pain before but this angered him. He never really liked the magic portals and stuff. He knew he would be moving to help the people near him. He just had to wait to see what the sarge would do before he bolted. He hoped that he would move towards the origional objective. Amaros knew that the portal had to be taken care of but could not just walk by the screams of the people. He waited for the expected order to keep moving where he would have to leave. It did not bother him anyway it went. Amaros was trained in combat and could hold his own.

Norin was jogging along the streets of Zerdargia trying to get the squadron to move faster and faster. He remembered how Setik had critised the speed of which he moved a group of soldiers and Norin only knew that Setik had done this to ensure speed when needed. Norin thus tried to heighten the pace of the squad.

Suddenly, he heard the screams of pain and the sound of battle. This did not come from the portal, however, since it was much too close. Norin wanted to investigate this new threat. Maybe it posed a greater threat than the portal. He had however learned to follow orders and his orders were to move his squadron to the magical portal and engage the enemy there. Norin was not about to disobey orders and thus continued on towards the magical gate while tellings his squadron:

"The sound of battle surrounds us. Zerdargia is being invaded. Our primary goal is the portal. Once it is destroyed we'll be able to hunt down the remaining enemies within the gate. Come on, pick up the pace and move with me, we're going to the portal."

Norin thus headed towards the portal accompanied by the squadron that he had taken command of by the North Gate of Zerdargia. He only hoped that this new threat was no greater than the Shadow Gate, which he had been ordered to destroy along with many more Veldar squadrons.

Troy whirled around in a circle, noticing that the sounds of battle had sprung up out of nowhere, and at close proximity as well. He looked to Beldwhig.

Norin had orderd the squad to the portal. Even if he disagreed, Toy wasn't going to argue with his CO...even though he wasn't in any type of armed forces.

Amaros had not anticipated any help at the new threat but realized the danger of it. He broke from his line yelling to the comander, "Please forgive me but I believe that I am needed at the new threat. You guys can take care of the portal. Stay strong we will meet again one day I am sure." With that he steped into a light jog towards the new battle while he sheathed his sowrd and pulled out his bow and knotched an arrow. Might as well hit a few from range he thought to himself.
