Circle

In Arcana, the Circle of Arcana is traditionally taught at the apprentice level in most, if not all, Spheres. The technique produces a barrier-type encasing which either deflects outside interference, or acts as a cage to keep whatever is inside the Circle from leaving. To create a Circle of Magic one a physical circle must be drawn first and then activated.
Defensive Circles are drawn counter-clockwise and are typically used with the caster inside. The barrier is constructed to keep all outside forces out. Whoever is within the Circle, however, may free leave without hindrance. This is common practice for apprentices who wish to be left alone while they meditate, etc.
Ensnaring Circles are drawn clockwise and are typically used with the mage outside and is cast over a target. The barrier is constructd to keep whatever is inside the Circle inside and allows free passage into the Circle. This is common practice among Elementalists, and other practicioners who summon extraplaner minions to do their bidding. The Circle will prevent the newly summoned creature from attacking its summoner while terms and oaths are exchanged.
