The term Schism most often refers to an institutional split or religious divide between the churches of Aelyria. The First Schism occurred during the Second Empire, when the Church of Aelyria broke into two sects, the Church of Chesley and the Church of the Faith, wherein the latter prevailed. The Second Schism occurred during the Interregnum period, wherein a group opposed to the ongoing central control of Archprelatess Aerienne Sarista seceded to form the Church of the Sacred Three. Both churches reunited upon the declaration of Regent Milo L'Evienne, recognizing Llanwyn Siannodel as the new Archprelate of a Unified Church.
