Abstract

Just as guilds protect merchants and shopkeepers, as well as promoting standards and organized competition, in the Aelyrian Empire, the Professional Societies and Organizations for Arcana promote the awareness, appreciation, and refinement of the illusive arts of Arcana and Magic throughout the Empire. These societies range in respect and membership, but all have a distinctive purpose for existing and may be found either nationally grouped or more localized.

Descriptions

Guild of Mages
The official guild of practitioners of the Arcane Arts, the Mages’ Guild has headquarters in Aelyria Prime, catering to mages of all disciplines who seek a forum to exchange thoughts and ideas. As the most respectful and honored guild of its class, the Mages’ Guild has high standards for membership and an equally high fee.

Guild of Magicians
This laughing-stock of a guild claims to be internationally organized, but let there be no mistake—the Magicians’ Guild is a collection of petty amateurs, magical rejects, and silly spellcasters that would do better as Court Jesters than practicing their craft in public. Publishing a monthly newsletter and selling magic for a profit, the Magicians' Guild are really disillusioned mediocre mages seeking some spellcasting for relief.

Society of the Hooded Cloak
An illusive and secret organization, the Society of the Hooded Cloak operates in complete darkness and privacy. Little is known about this reclusive group of mages, but it is believed that their intentions are malevolent and aggressive and that they plot many misfortunes for Aelyria and the entire Multiverse. One outcast member revealed that the Society had sought to release the Spirit of Jorel upon the countryside and thus their alignment with Necromancy is suggested.

Society of Wizards
The prominent mages’ guild outside of the Aelyrian Empire, the Society of Wizards has tried for centuries to try and merge with the Mages’ Guild, but the elitism displayed by the latter group has disgusted the Society and has instead compelled members of the Society of Wizards to enter Aelyria and rarely share their art. They claim to guard a secret discipline not known to most Aelyrians.

The Circle
A reclusive and secretive group known simply as “the Circle,” the Druids within this coven are rumored to safeguard and protect all life, worship Carmelya, and hold a deep, spiritual communion with Nature. Members have been known to rarely reveal themselves which further increases the mystery which surrounds their craft.

The Council of Sylrosia
The ancient Elf-mages of Silrosia originated the nature-magic behind much of Arcana during a time when Sylrosya was the proper spelling of their homeland. The society rests in the comfort of the valley-city of Silrosia today and refine the arts, offering to heal and nurture all those in need.
