Baby Pains [Camberdown Mansions Apartment #5]
Grandfathered thread approved by Fox
Timestamp: Early Melora in the Season Spring; Era II of the Celestine Mandate, Era XIV Post Fractum. The Second Era of the Regency of Milo L'Evienne
She was running to the same room as before and the screams that filled it took her breathe away. She knew if she didn't reach the baby in time then it might be too late and some fate worse then death would come from it. Yarrow reached the room and came to the crib and looked in. The baby was wrapped in blankets and she couldn't see into it and so she began to pull the layers off, but there was still no sign of the crying child. Yarrow became frantic in her search and the cries became louder and louder until pain raced through her and she...gasped! Her eyes were open and she opened her mouth as if to scream, but only a moan escaped her lips.
"Rhys!" Yarrow said and turned her head to the sleeping person next to her. She had often woke him in the middle of the night for some strange food that she had to have, but this time was different. "Rhys!" She said once more to wake him from sleep. It was late in the night, but babies didn't wait for anyone or anything.

"Five crowns if you can make the jump." said the teenager.
A young Rhys looked at him "You're on."
He back up and looked at the gap over the rushing creek, he could make it. Taking one breath he backed up and ran. His feet carried him to the rocky edge as he jumped with his might. The air suhed as he flew over the creek and he could see the water below him and the other end getting closer.
"RHYS!" came a voice
He looked around as he all of a sudden fell, he waited for the water but kept falling.
"RHYS!"
He mumbled a bit as he opened his eyes. The faint moonlight shone through and he could make out the face of Yarrow laying next to him as he rolled over, her eyes were open.
"Wha...did you say something?"

"Wha...did you say something?" He asked her.
"Are you awake? You need to go take Chestnut to get the healer." She told him firmly. The horse would be faster then him running, but she didn't doubt his strength. "I....I think it's time." she informed him.

"I....I think it's time."
It took his mind a second to process it but then it hit. His eyes oepned wide and he immediatly sat up and looked over ot Yarrow. "Are.......are you fine??!" he asked hurriedly.
He hopped outta bed, still in his night shirt and pants. He grabbed his captain jacket that was set out for the next morning and threw it on along with slipping his boots on as fast as he could. It probably was one of the fastest time he got ready.
"Will you be fine alone?" he asked worriedly

Yarrow laughed before a pain shot through her stomache, but she covered up a grimace because that would only make him worry more. "Of course I will be fine! I'm a big girl who can take a wee bit of pain. I've been stabbed, shot in the back with an arrow and cursed so many times in my short life that a baby should be simple, right?"

He looked at her, worried but he knew she could handle it herself, she was strong willed.
"Alright darlin, I'll be as fast as I can be!"
He looked at her before he left the room and then the apartment. He rushed downstairs and to the private stables. He opened up the main door, it clanged against the wall. Rushing down to the stall where Chestnut, Yarrow's horse was. SHe was in the process of standing up, no doubt he had woken her up. He opened the stall door and took the bridle, saddle and pad nad began to saddle up.
A figure stood next to the sall and cleared his throat. It was Angus, the night guard posted at the gates. Rhys turned and they reconized one another.
"Ah, evenin thar cap'n, whatcha doin up at this time."
Rhsy threw the saddle on the horses back and tightened the girth and began to bridle. "It's Yarrow, the baby has decided its time."
The guard looked suprised "Aye then! I'll get the gate open!" he said as he rushed out of the stable.
Rhys was finally finished saddling and he pulled himself on the saddle. He kicked the horse into a trot to get out of the gates, he waved to Angus. "You'll have to close the stable door!" he said.
He turned the horse downt he road, no one was there. He kciked hard to get Chestnut to speed up and into a lope and held on for the ride as he amde his way through the streets to the healer.
*****
Finally he was in fornt of the door. He knocked rapidly, waiting for Martha. He knocked again after a few seconds. Then the door opened and she stood with qa candle in hand.
"Yes my dear, what can I help you with?" she asked, not really reconizing him this late at night.
"It's Rhys Telan, Yarrow, she says she thinks the baby is ready." he said, she coudl tell he was worried and excited at the same time."
"Ah yes, alright I'll grab my things and I will be there."
"I coudl take you on the horse, I can wait." said Rhys.
"No no, I have a few things that would be hard for the two of us and the items for the horse to hold. Don't worry i'll make haste. Just go and get her comfortable and have some linens and water reayd for me for now."
"OK then. Rhys said as he hopedd back on the horse and turned around. He spurred Chestnut and made haste back to the house and to get things ready.

Yarrow worked on her breathing and tried not to count the minutes that went by. The pains would come and go and when they were on her they were really on her, but then at times she would feel nothing and she would begin to wonder if it had been a false alarm like a few days ago. Yet whenever she seemed to think this way the pains would start back up again and she would begin to work on staying sane. She even fell back to sleep at one point and...
...they were lined up in a column and the commanding officer was giving them commands. This would be her first real battle and none of them had any real training yet. It was a little nerve racking, but they would get through it...they had to after all. Suddenly their commanding officer was shot with an arrow and the group was in a panic. What were they to do? What was there to do? They had to push on, that was all they could do, but the enemy forces were too much. One of her friends yelled for a retreat and they turned to run but a fierce pain met her back and she shouted out in pain...an arrow....Yarrow moaned and...
...woke from her dream of the past. She still had the scar from the arrow. She had almost died that day, but she had been pulled back in time. It was funny how things worked out in the end. Now she was having a baby and she still felt so very young. But I have always been older in reality. She thought with a smile as her hands went to her stomache and the pains stopped once more. She breathed out.

Rhys hurriedly opened the door and ran into the apartment. He threw his jacket and such on the chair to get things ready. First he went to check on yarrow. He caught her laying on the bed, she seemed fine.
"Yarrow, are you ok??"

"Yarrow, are you ok??" She turned her head and smiled at him.
"Of course I am. I've been through worse." She told him. "Do you remember when we meant up with that fellow on the roof? He made you turn against that dracon?" Yarrow turned her hands over so she could look at them, but the skulls were no longer burned onto her skin. "I thought we would die that night."

He managed a half smiel as he remebr what he did from that night, indeed they coudl've died there and then. He looked at his ahnd alos, the tatoo's long gone somehow.
"Ok, well I'm goign to be getting a few things ready that is needed. She shoudl be getting here soon. Yell if you need me." he said giving her another look before disppearing into the kitchen.
Rhys dug to find the biggest tub they had and got some water heated. While it was heating he ruished to find clean towels and such, then aknock at the door distracted him. The old woman pushed the already ahlfway door open.
"I sure do hoep I'm in the right place." she said as Rhys turned to corner.
"Yes yes, you are! Yarrow is in here" he said with anxiouness and excitement in his voice as he led her into the bedroom.

Martha stepped in to check on Yarrow and Yarrow gave her a thin smile. "Serale, how are you?" She asked weakly.
"The question is how are you doing darling?" Martha asked and pulled up a chair to sit in. "I talked to Gwen before I left and she will be on the way shortly." The old woman told her as she began to check Yarrow out. They didn't have to wait very long because there was a knock at the door and Rhys went to let the dwarf in.
"How is she doing?" Gwen asked Martha with a friendly smile at the mother-to-be.
"Everything seems to be going the way it should be." Martha responded and left her post so Gwen could take over.

"You called me much too early," Gwen told Yarrow with a laugh. "This is normal for first time mothers. You aren't going through labor yet, just contractions, but labor can pick up at any moment...it just depends. Now I want you to calm down and take a deep relaxing breathe." Yarrow nodded and did so while Martha put a cool rag on her head to cool her off a little. "When a mother becomes anxious in the early stages of her labor it really make the labor longer or more painful because of the mother's inability to relax." Gwen explained.
"You told me that you have practiced druidism in the past, yes?" "I am out of practice...I haven't done anything in nine months." Yarrow replied. "That's good, but do you remember how you meditated?" Gwen asked next and Yarrow nodded her head slowly. "You aren't connecting to arcana, but you are relaxing and getting your energy up. I want you to meditate and relax until you go into active labor."
"When will that be?" Yarrow asked. "Your contractions need to be more stable and longer. They usually last four minutes apart and last about a minute for at least one candlemark." Gwen responded. "I am sorry I called for you too soon." "No I am glad you did sweetheart. I will be able to relax you and Rhys better from here. So why don't you go into your meditation state, but remember don't connect to arcana...it could still hurt the baby. I am going to take Rhys and Martha into the hallway to talk for a moment." She informed Yarrow with an even smile. Yarrow smiled back and began to meditate and relax more while Gwen took them out into the hallway.
"She hasn't gone into labor yet." Gwen told the two with a shrug. "I don't know how long it will take for that to occur so until her contractions get more stable I am going to take a nap in your second bedroom. Martha, can you look after her for now?" Martha nodded her head for she knew what to look for. "I think you should try and get some rest as well Rhys." Gwen told the father-to-be. "You can't do anything for her now and she will need you to be strong and well rested later on."

Rhys nodded, pretty much a false alarm but he wouldn't take the chance anyways. "I've gone without rest for a long while, I'll be fine. Just let me know of anything you need and I will go and get it."
"Alright but do get some sort of rest, this isn't guard duty." said Gwen as she made her way to the other room to rest.
Rhys went into the bedroom and sat on the foot of the bed lightly, not to disturb Yarrow. He watched her and then the bulge under the covers, the new addition. His mind wandered on what the little guy would be like. Moments of fatherhood flashed through his head, watching the first steps, first words. He could see the three of them walking throught he streets, an excited little boy running circles around the two of them pointing and asking questions. He smiled to himself.

The meditation relaxed Yarrow so that she hardly felt the contractions when they came and went. The meditation turned into a steady dream...
...she was swimming in the sea of dead, trying to get out....she looked around for the others that she was sure were with her, but they were gone. In the distance she heard the cry of a baby... ...and she awoke gasping with contractions. Martha stirred from her half sleep and gave her a kind smile.
"How long was I asleep...?" Yarrow mumbled. "A few hours. How are you feeling?" She asked and Yarrow shook her head. She hadn't thought about the sea of dead in ages. She had been brought into that strange place after she had killed her first person. How could I forget such a thing? She wondered.
"It could be worse... I could be back in quarintine with a snake bite swelling my heel." Yarrow grumbled remembering coming to Abestat for the first time, but not being allowed to enter the city. They're job was to keep the people from sneeking into the city and one day one criminal had tried to do just that. When he had been spotted he had raced off into the woods and ended up getting stuck in quicksand. They had saved him, but Yarrow remembered having to nurse wounds from an angry snake after that. It hadn't been pleasent in the least.
"Snake bites are tricky, yes." Martha agreed. "We're going to time your contractions to see how far a long you are okay?" Yarrow nodded her head and with Martha's help she sat up and started to time them. Yarrow glanced over to where Rhys was sitting and held out her hand for his....

Still for the time Rhys sat at the end of the bed and only got up once to relieve himself. He spent the time thinking and planning even more about the unborn child. Now he'd be actually have someone completely dependent on him and Yarrow. Every step he would ame he'd have to consider a smaller person and what would be best for ALL of them. Then they'd have to consider the better places to put the child as he got older, schooling and such. He kept telling himself that he was ready and he knew that he was, mostly.
As Yarrow stirred he came from his mind of thoughts and turned to her, she outstreched her hand. He took it in his, clasping it between both of his and with a gentle squeeze, smiled.
