Assistant to the Chief Aedile

Description:

Out in the hallway, the door to the office that Jos occupied stood with its door wide open, revealing an office that wasn't large, but that might have been more to do with the fact that it was full rather than anything else. Her desk was shoved sideways into the far right hand side so that she sat with her side to the door. Behind her and along all of the available walls were filing cabinets with the doors slid firmly shut. The office was neat despite its crowded appearance, everything with a place and everything precisely in that place.

A chair, wooden with a green leather padded seat sat the door side of the desk, it's back close to the wall.

Goods & Services:

The assistant to the Chief Aedile worked behind the scenes and was often the person to see in order to get things done without the formalities of arranging meetings with the Chief Aedile. She also arranged the Cheif Aediles diary.

The discussion with the Aedile had been most interesting, if not entirely a tad too...endearing, if that's what it was. While it was true that he was here as the representative of one of the senior officials of the Empire, it didn't necessarily mean that he didn't have much to do.

This was even if the Administrate of Centripax didn't have a navy, per se.

Making his way to the nearby offices where he'd been directed to, the young man soon presented himself, clad as he was in his uniform.

Saluting quite promptly (and ignoring Navy Regs that prohibited him from doing so, indoors), so did he make himself known.

"Serale. Cencoris Fabian Hagen of the Imperial Marines. I've just been with the Aedile and I've been directed here..." proclaimed he, with much feigned reluctance, "...on a matter of Imperial security."

As the newly appointed Assistant Aedile, the first thing Kyonos did was to shoo Jos out her office. He told her sternly, "I just got appointed as Assistant Aedile by the Governor. You are probably going to be promoted to some higher position, so take your personal belongings and run along to your new job."

Once he got rid of her, the Dwarf sat in the chair and put his feet up on the desk.

Then a young man soon presented himself, clad in a very impressive looking Imperial Marine uniform. This fellow looked sharp and Kyonos was suitably impressed. The officer saluted quite properly and introduced himself, "Serale. Cencoris Fabian Hagen of the Imperial Marines. I've just been with the Aedile and I've been directed here..." proclaimed he, with much feigned reluctance, "...on a matter of Imperial security."

This made the Dwarf extra alert. His first conduct of business had to do with Imperial security. He had to be sure that this got done right and stated, "I'm Kyonos Weatherstone, Assistant Aedile. Tell me how we can help you with your important work."

Keldon entered the office quickly flanked by two men who looked more like desk workers then guards the carried several documents with them rolled neatly so no one could see there contents. He looked around, knowing he would need to make an appointment with the Chief Adile, or barge in on him. However there assistant he could see right away and knew of them while he served in the city.

Looking around he noticed the change in the name on the door and made a gentle laugh as he stepped inside. "Serale, my name is Provost Keldon Elsdragon of the Imperial Legions and I require records and land statements of several local garrisons currently in the city." Keldon said in a deep military type voice.

Who should be his first visitor but Keldon Elsdragon, the former Thane of Primus Gaudeo. There was a gentle laugh as he stepped inside and said, "Serale, my name is Provost Keldon Elsdragon of the Imperial Legions and I require records and land statements of several local garrisons currently in the city." Keldon said in a deep military type voice.

Kyonos had no idea why Keldon acted as if he did not know the Dwarf and was so formal. Back when Keldon was Thane they had a good enough relationship but things seem to have changed. The information requested by the Provost was not something that Kyonos expected or considered to be a function of the office of the Aedile. He replied, "Sure is a strange enough request. If you're asking about Imperial garrisons then you ought to know all that already. If you're asking about the local garrisons then you'd need to get that from the Thane, but we haven't had a Thane since I got fired, so I guess you need to see the Governor. She ought to be in the Governor's office. It's still in the same place."

Kyonos responded to the salute with a snappy wave and said, "Serale, pleased to make you acquaintance Cencoris Fabian Hagen. I'm Kyonos Weatherstone, the Assistant Aedile. Tell me how I can help you. Imperial security is a pretty important matter."

Keldon shook his head. "No Kyonos I am not looking for Imperial Land, I am looking to know what land the provincial military owns within the city, which is why I have come to the local office. However there is little need to bother the governor with such a request since it is your office that keeps records of all land holdings within the city." he said quickly.

Kyonos nodded and said, "I don't recall seeing anything that might have a list of holdings like that, but I'll look through the lot of what's here. Sit yourself down while I look."

The Dwarf checked the several ledgers that were there, reading the title of each and then the Table of Contents on the first page. Next checked the file drawers, reading the title of each folder. When that was done, the Assistant Aedile looked at the Provost and said, "Seems like we don't have anything about what the Provincial Military owns in the City. Maybe Sir Raliric Ered`Gard might know about that. Isn't he the one who runs the Provincial Military? If he doesn't know. then if you really need to know you'll just have to see the Governor because we still don't have a Thane. Too bad you didn't keep track of those kinds of things when you were Thane, then you'd know all that already."

Kyonos shook his head and said, "Sorry I couldn't help you with that. I wish I could have."

Keldon sat and wait and then started to sake his head in disappointment when the dwarf spoke. Obviously he had come to the wrong place, although it was the correct office. There was little point going to the Governor as she would refer to this office for those records. But never the less they were here and he would find them, he would just let the Chief Adile the Imperial Government wanted to meet with him and now. Letting out another sigh he decided to speak. "Kyonos, I know you mean well. However if you are to serve in public office I would suggest you keep upto date on the happenings within the city. Raliric has not been in a position of power for the Provincial Military for sometime, nor is he any longer in the provincial government at all." he said placing the quill back into the bag he had brought.

"Also, as thane I did not need to keep track of such details personally, it was the responsibility and the mandate of the Aedile's office to keep track of such records. However, do not worry that you can not find them. I shall advise the Chief Aedile that I wish to speak with them and I shall also inform them to bring along the records of all provincial military holdings for both the city and all locations in the province." he said nodding his head and standing up, he would give Kyonos a brief nod and then make his way out of his office.

It seemed that Keldon's attitude toward Kyonos had changed since the Dwarf decided to get into government. He used to be very friendly.

Kyonos replied, "I try my best to keep up to date on what is happening with the city. The fact that Raliric has not been in a position of power for the Provincial Military for sometime, nor is he any longer in the provincial government does not mean he forgot what he knew about military installations. In case you were not aware, he still has a lot to do with military things.

"Good luck with finding all those military places."

It was not a busy time at the office of the Aedile. Though Kyonos showed up every brightening, he did not stay long. Most of his time was spent at the Forge.

When he was at the Aedile's office most of his time was spent looking through old records and deeds and familiarizing himself with past transactions. Before long he was well acquainted with what had transpired in Primus Gaudeo during recent eras.

Being the Assistant Aedile was not all that much of a challenge but Kyonos was quite pleased that he was able to deal with the public and not get involved in a ruckus. He was old enough to settle down and make something of himself. He had a good chance to start in that direction with his present job.

It was time for him to look to the future and this was a good place to begin it. He looked through the Land Deeds, setting in his mind, who owned what.

As was usually the case, Kyonos was ready for whomever might come along in need of his assistance.
