Hall of the Prefecture
The corridor leading into the Prefecture was similar to the other main ones leading away from the Entrance Hall of the Concordia Incola. Aside from the fact that this one lead to the Hall of the Prefect and of course to the Inner Court as well.
The grand main hall was even larger than that of the governor, but lacking distinctly in the creature comforts, such as carpets and plush furniture. In their place, were benches, chairs and tables made of the sturdiest oak. On the walls a set of tapestries depicting the coat of arms of the city guard was hung; two golden, crossed swords with a white dove above them, illuminated in beautiful embroidery work.
A counter ran from the northern to the southern wall, divided into several sections, each with its name written on the front of the counter with steel letters, and divided by a steel bar on the counter. The name of the sections went as thus: City Guard, Office of the Prefect, Court of Law, and the Constabulary. A receptionist stood behind each counter, ready to take requests to see various officials and make appointments.
Four grand double doors, each easily fitting a giant and flanked by guards on each side, lead away from the hall, two in the southern wall, two in the northern. The western-most door in the northern wall held a steel sign with mithril letters above it reading: Office of the Prefect, leading to the private office of one Grimkate Overearth, along with the offices of the public advocates, conservators, and court officials. The eastern-most door had a similar sign reading: Office of the City Guard, above it and lead to the offices of the high commander and captains of the city guard.
The western-most door in the southern wall had a sign reading: Court of Law, and lead to the courtrooms, where judges, held court over ordinary crimes, such as murder, theft, assault, etc.
And finally, the eastern-most door in the southern wall, had a sign reading: Constabulary, leading to the offices and working areas of the Constabulary, the detectives and investigators of Primus Gaudeo. Here they worked on solving the many crimes of the city, while the city guard, took care of the actual guard-duty and street-police work.
The Hall of the Prefecture was the embodiment of an efficient system, commanded by the Prefect, Grimkate Overearth, who was also the highest ranked judge of the Court of Primus, commanding all other judges and second only to the Justicar himself.
Upon a person’s entrance, the receptionists would look expectantly at the arrival, ready to field any requests or questions they might have.
