Captain Woodruff's "Office" [Tylag]

It wasn't really an office that Yarrow had, but it was a place to collect her thoughts while she was resting. She didn't rest for very long. She kept herself busy for the most part, checking the estate when Lord Keldon wasn't about. She had great need to keep active. I wasn't raised to this level by not keeping my eyes on things. She thought.

There was a simple table and chairs for whoever needed the opposite one, but that was rare. Yarrow sighed and eased herself down on one of the chairs to rest for a moment. She rubbed her temples carefully to ease the ache in her head when she heard a knock on her door.

"Enter." She declared, becoming the Captain that she was.

The dwarf easily found the office the guards had been kind enough to show the location of. The dwarf shakes his head as he aproaches the door. I have not seen so many soliders since my time in training in the Veldar barracks. the dwarf thought.

Mustering his courage the dwarf raises his stout hand and knocks once on the door. A voice from inside said Enter and the dwarf opened the door and entered the small office.

As the dwarf came to attention and saluted Captain Yarrow as he had been taught to salute superior officers in the Veldar Elite which although only a few eras ago seemed to be so much longer.

Tylag waited until the Captain told him to relax or stop salutign before he stopped. The dwarf took in the surrondings a very simple office if it was even that." M'lady I presume you are Captain of the Thane's guard I." Tyalg said hoping the soldiers he had received directions from were not playing a cruel joke on the dwarf and had sent him to some other office.

Yarrow looked at the dwarf with interest. Who is this? She wondered and gave him a salute back.

Yarrow gave him a grin. What I don't pass as the Thane's Captain? She wondered, but was simply amused at the question instead of angry.

"You have come to the right place." She assured him. "I am Captain Woodruff." Maybe he is just surprised I am a female. She got that a lot actually. "Would you care to take a seat sir?" She asked him, gesturing to the one opposite herself. She waited for him to take it before she continued. "What can I help you with? Did one of my men give you trouble?"

Yarrow looked at the dwarf with interest. Yarrow gave Tylag a grin. The dwarf thought the grin boded well. The dwarf had a little butterflies in his stomach at his sheer audacity in doing this, buut tried to hide his mild nervousness.

"You have come to the right place." "I am Captain Woodruff." The guard captain said. "Would you care to take a seat sir?" She asked him, gesturing to the one opposite herself. She waited for him to take it before she continued. "What can I help you with? Did one of my men give you trouble?" Yarrow asked the dwarf if he wanted to take a seat." Aye lady thank you for the offer." Tylag said as he took a seat across from the female Captain.

The dwarf smiled at Yarrow's comment that one of her men may have given the dwarf trouble."No othing of that sort Captain. I am actaully lokking for any vacancies you may have for a guard." I apoligize For my being so formal, I did not know exactly what to expect so overly formal seemed a safe approach." the male dwarf said as he sat sitting on the edge of his chair.

Yarrow smiled at the dwarf to ease him into talking.

"No nothing of that sort Captain. I am actaully lokking for any vacancies you may have for a guard. I apoligize For my being so formal, I did not know exactly what to expect so overly formal seemed a safe approach." Yarrow nodded her head in understanding.

"It is all right sir." She told him. "It is better to be safe then sorry. I make it a point to make sure my men give the respect I deserve, but I don't hold the same regards for civilians." She told him truthfully. "As for an opening that really depends. Do you have any experience?" She asked him.

'It is a good thing your en give you the respect you derseve."The dwarf nodded as the Female Human did say it s' safer to be more formal than not. "As for experience I was trained in basic warhammer, and basic dagger by the Veldar Elite." the dwarf explained. "I was also a guard for merchants in Riparia traveling to Natura from Riparia."

Yarrow nodded her head. "What is your name by the way?" Yarrow asked with a grin. That was something she would need to know, too. After he gave it she nodded her head "You already know my name...well training is good to have, but have you ever been in a battle or a fight where you needed to use a weapon?" she wouldn't be able to introduce him to the thane if she didn't think he was capable of protecting him.

The human nodded her head at Tylag's listing of his training."As for actual battle experience Aye I have. On two different occasions. The first occassion was when I lived in a isolated dwarven outpost. Some orcs had been interfering in the outpost affairs."

"The male dwarves went out on sortie to end the orc threat. In the end result we were ambushed and the orcs destroyed the enitre outpost. The second time was a little over a era ago. I joined in a melee against some dracons. The outcome of the fight I was wounded by a trick manuever by one of the dracons utilizing a missile weapon. "

"One of the thngs I learned from this fight was to learn a missile weapon so I can be better rounded instead of knowing strictly close combat." The dwarf finished talking.

He still hasn't given me his name... Yarrow thought, but she listened to his talk about battle and such and nodded her head thoughtfully.

"Well, sir..., you happen to be in luck." She told him. "We had to get rid of someone for some trouble at the gate earlier and we are one man short. However, I need to send word to Lord Keldon." She told him, getting up from her seat and moving over to the door. She glanced down the hallway and spoted one of her men.

"Doris!" She snapped and the man turned with a wince.

"Yes ma'am?" He asked.

"Ask Keldon if he has time to meet with me. I think we've found someone to help with gate duty." She told Doris. Doris saluted her smartly and trotted off like a good soldier, but Yarrow knew when he was out of sight he would walk the rest of the way. That's the guard anywhere for you. She thought, turning back to the stranger. "What do you go by?" She asked him once more.

It was a short time afterwards that the guard returned with a message from Lord Elsdragon who was presently at the Incola tending to his duties. The paper was rolled and sealed with the Thanes stamp.

Yarrow nodded at Doris who gave the dwarf a curious look while she read over the letter handed over to her. Yarrow rolled up the letter after finished reading it. "There will be no reply Doris." It was a dismisal and Doris knew it. He gave her a salute and turned toward the door to leave.

"Lord Keldon is a very busy man." She informed the stranger. "He is not able to meet you at this time, but if you want the job it is yours." She leaned on her desk and watched his expression.

Tylag had the sudden fear he had not mentioned his name. "My name is Tylag m'lady" The lady said there was a position available . tylg didn't let the joy show in his face as he remained business like. "I understand the Thane is busy, and I will take the job." the dwarf said in response to the female human.

Yarrow nodded at the mention of the dwarf's name. Tylag it is then. She thought. He seemed very excited about the job offer and she smiled openly at that. He doesn't even know what he is in for. She thought to herself.

"That's it?" She asked with a laugh and then shrugged her shoulders. "Very well, the job is yours, Tylag. Do you have any questions so far?" She was already thinking about where she would house him and the uniform he needed, but she waited for his response.

The human smiled openly at the dwarf or at his enthusiasm the dwarf could not tell. The human did say the job was his. But the dwarf took it as a reassuring sign anyway"The dwarf took a moment to compose himself and searched for any questions he may have. "No questions at this time m'lady." The dwarf replied to the female's inquiry

A thought did start polig into th e back of the dwarves mind what have you got yourself into. Don't you remember the dead meat incident back with the Veldar Elite at he end of training The dwarf thought to himself.

Yarrow chuckled and shook her head. "You aren't even interested in the pay?" She joked. "Well I will tell you anyway, 20 crowns for starts. You have to work yourself up to 30 crowns a cycle." She informed him and then stood up. "You get meals a uniform and a place to stay of course, however, you have to be ready for anything and I mean anything. I'll show you around the place now if you have the time." She informed him.
