[Thanal Manor] - Can He Ride? Not Likely!

Sixth Brightening of the First Cycle in the Month of Aperitus in the Season of Spring; Era I of the Celestine Mandate, Era XIII Post Fractum. The First Era of the Regency of Milo L'Evienne.

Keldon had done something he normally never does, he had taken the day off work, as he wanted to learn how to ride a horse properly. He was planning to take Adrianna out riding sometime, perhaps someplace romantic in the mountains. He was not fully sure yet, never the less he needed the lessons.

When Santael arrived she would be shown to the stables in the rear of the mansion, and a guard would be sent to inform Keldon of her presence where he would come outside to greet her.

Santael arrived at the manor in ill humor, looking balefully at the gates. She showed the guard the letter she had recieved 'Letter, Hah! The man practically ordered me....' The gaurd let her in and showed her to the stables. Santael had not dismounted the tall horse she was riding. When she reached the stable, she slid down the considerable height from the back of the gray horse, and absently stroked hisnose as she peered around. Well well. This was impressive.

'If a man can afford all this, I can't see why he can't afford the time to walk down to the stable. If he wants to learn, he should do it there. I can't believe Restle made me do this. Oh, certainly, he may be the Thane of the fething city, but that's no reason for me to come up here like a servant to his bidding...' Her thoughts were interrupted by a rough shove from the horse's blunt nose. "Oh Hesh. We'll put him in his place, eh?" She smiled and scratched the top of the horse's head, and proceded to wait for 'The Lord Thane...bah!' to make his appearence.

It had been a rather long day at the Incola as Keldon was going over the fiscal budget of the entire city and attempting to understand how it worked co-inside with the Provincial, and Municipal Budget. Which were both the something at present however it was far more complicated then he expected it to be. Most of the morning was spent in meetings with staff and throwing around ideas, various headaches from thinking with a million and two things in his head.

Walking through the main gates to the estate the guards following him broke off towards the guard house save for two who always followed him to the doorway of the estate, three members of the cities government was walking with him speaking. Keldon just gently rubbed his head responding to there questions. Some taking down notes of orders that Keldon was giving until a Arabella arrived and told Keldon that Santael from the cities stables was waiting at his stables to begin his lesions.

So he began walking towards the stables, his little group following aswel until he saw Santael in the distance waiting he excused the guards, and the members of government who tried to get in the last question or statement before they moved back the way they had come towards the gate. Keldon reached to where the women was standing and smiled, beginning to speak in a warm tone. "Serale Santael, and welcome to my home. I do appologise for not being able to come to the stables itself. My guard was concerned with my protection due to some circumstances that have come to pass as of late."

'Well well, look what the socialite drug in.' Santael's eyes scanned the tall elf, noted the usual marble-like features, gold hair, radiant eyes... 'Bah. Elves all look the same. With so much perfection, there's no deviation.' She was silent as he spoke. 'Of course, his protection. What else would I expect?'

"No matter," came her prompt reply. "Name's Santael Hamile. Pleased to meet you, I'm sure. So. How much do you know about riding? Where's your skill level?"

Keldon made note of the womens form and the quick snap tone in her voice. "Pleasure to meet you madam Hamile, I am afraid my experience in the true form of riding is rather base. I know how to ride the basic form. Much of which is taken care by my staff. But I believe a formal training would be appropriate."

"Very well." Santael turned, and quickly untacked Hesh, leaving only his halter on. "You can start by brushing Hesh here. I don't know where you keep your grooming supplies, but I didn't bring any. Start with a simple brush and go over his whole body, then a soft brush for his face, a comb through his mane forlock and tail, and pick his hooves. If you need any help, of course, simple ask."

Santael held Hesh's leadrope with a blank look on her face. It was one thing to take numerous people through these first few steps again and again, but to do it here, on the grounds of the Lord Thane... It was just a little ridiculous in Santael's eyes. But no matter, she thought. He'll learn just as anyone.

A younger boy around the age of 17 walked out of the stable slightly surprised to see the Lord Thane and another women there. He almost looked as if he saw a ghost and bowed deeply. "Serale your grace... milday." Keldons eyes changed from Santael to the young man. "Serale young man, I must say you have impeckable timing lad."

The boy looked at the Lord Thane with a blink, such words were not known in the young mans mind but he just smiled and nodded his head. "Thank you milord," Keldon moved towards him briefly. "I am doing some lessons with Lady Santael here to learn how to keep a horse. Could you show me to the stables and help collect some items required for the basics?" Keldon said with a smile and the boy nodded. "Aye milord, follow me."

Keldon and the boy disappered into ths tables briefly for a short time and came out, Keldon was carrying a small bucket that was filled with various things. Setting it down a short distance from the mount Keldon removed a bursh. "Thank you lad," He said with a smile to the boy and began to move towards the mount.

Santael's eyes flicked to the boy, but she kept the smirk that wanted to creep onto her face hidden. It would not do, surely, to laugh so at the Lord Thane of Primus Guadeo. All the same, the man did not even know where basic grooming supplies was in his own stable. Maybe her own head was too immersed in the equine trade to recognize responsibilites outside of it, but to Santael, this seemed ridiculous.

When Keldon came back out, she watched silently as he bid his guide good day and began brushing tall, ugly Hesh. 'Hmph... A fitting match. He's tall enough for you, anyway,' she thought grimly.

Keldon began to groom the horse slowly, starting at the top of its head down her main. Slowly stroking the brush through the hair. It took him sometime, from getting a different brush to work all the way back to the horses tail. He came back to the front of the mount and scratched the animals nose a little between her eyes ever so gently.

Santael watched was Keldon did his brushing and offered no advice. Only making sure that he used the right brush for the right spots which wasn’t to difficult but for the Thane of the city who know what he can’t do. She noticed how he didn’t attempt to pick the hooves of the horse even though he had been instructed to. He didn’t ask how either, perhaps he thought he was to manly to ask a question for a woman, or maybe he was expecting his servants to do it. That wouldn’t do, not for Santael, she was forced to teach this man and she would do it right.

Walking over towards the bucket she took out a hoof pick. ”I will show you how to pick the horses hooves. I will do one and you do the other three” she told Keldon. She wanted to laugh a little, she had seen him telling other what to do, ordering them about, but now it was her turn to tell the Thane of the city what to do.

She lifted Hesh’s right front leg so it bent and began to pick away any mud, rocks and pebbles that were stuck in the hooves. If Keldon observed closely he would see that the hooves were relatively clean. Santael always kept her horses in excellent condition but even as she showed Keldon what to do, she doubted that he would ever do it himself in the future. At least she would know he had done it at least this once. She put the leg down and rubbed the face of Hesh and asked ”Can you do that?” Other words might have been better to ask the Thane but that’s how it came out and it was to late to take it back now. She handed the pick over to Keldon.

Keldon smiled and bent over taking the pick from Santael. "Thank you milady, I was going to get to that however I decided to pause to see if you had any instruction or advice in the teachings to brush the animal..." Keldon said running his hand over the horses back. "After all I was not sure if a specific brush stroke could hurt the animal..."

Taking the hoof into his hand he began to pick out the odd pieces of dirt, repeating it on each leg he did it slowly making sure they were all clean before standing back on his feet looking towards Santael to see what was the next step. Or if he had done anything wrong.

”As far as brushing goes you did well, you brush him lengthways down his body and everything should be fine. The funny thing about a horse is if they don’t like it, you’ll know it.” He comment was flat and lacked any humor. This could be mistaken by dry humor or that she wasn’t pleased with Keldon. The later was true, however sit was left to the interpretation of the Lord Thane.

It seemed that Santael had a keen eye though, at least for her horses. When Keldon was done the last hoof she took the pick and lifted the horses leg again and took out a small pebble. One that had been missed but it didn’t look as thought it would do much harm. It may have seemed at this point that she was picking on the Thane, which was slightly true, however she would have done this to any of her students.

Santael then proceeded to take everything off of the horse so it stood there naked. She quickly brushed where his saddle and blanket had been. She handed Keldon a thick square blanket and told him ”Spread the blanket over the horses withers to where the saddle will be. This will stop the saddle from sliding around and will also keep the hair under the saddle lying flat, for the horses comfort” she pointed to where the horses wither was.

When that was done she continued ”Now here is the saddle. You will lift it high enough so it doesn’t hit the horse or knock the blanket off. Place it slightly forward and then settle it back. Be very very careful not to drop it hard on the back of the horse. It could cause it to be spooked or something referred to as ‘cold back’ in which the horse will resent being saddled and in some cases refuse. Also if done several times it could cause injury. Now check both sides of the saddle and smooth out any wrinkles in the blanket, be careful not to change the direction of the hair. Now you will fasten the saddle by taking the girth under the horse and bringing it up and buckling it. Stretch out the horses legs to help settle the saddle and to remove wrinkles.”

Satael stood back and watched Keldon do as he was instructed after handing him a rather heavy saddle.

Keldon remained silent and nodded, Keldon took the blanket and placed it on the horse, although he pulled the blanket slightly towards the back of the horse to make sure all the hairs where laying flat and not bunched up or crushed. He was not instructed to do so, although he was told to make sure the hair remains flat. He checked the blanket to make sure it was fully smooth running his hands over the fabric.

Running his hand over the side of her body as he released the blanket in place he proceeded to pickup the saddle. It weighted a decent amount but Keldon was not a weak person, lifting it up he proceeded to lift it over the horse and gently place it down on the blanket. Making sure it was decently centered before placing it finally on the blanket. He made sure the strap he needed fell to the side of the horse and hanged below it.

Should anything not of gone wrong he would rub the neck of the horse gently for a moment before he reached under the mount. In his mind he was being cautious as he knew the power that was in the legs beside his head that could seriously cause some damage and was ready to react if they motioned to kick.

Grabbing the strap he would pull if to his side, making sure he did not pull it hard enough to cause the saddle on the horse to move. Bringing the girth to the buckle he would slide it in and start to tighten it although not enough to put major pressure on the animal yet as he turned his head to look at Satael. "To stretch the animals legs what would I do?" He asked, after getting the answer he would secure the saddle on the horse and then follow whatever answer and would stretch the animals legs and then wait for further instruction.

Santael was surprised that Keldon was able to do these things correctly, and he didn’t even get one of his servants to do it. She nodded to his question and walked over in front of the horse touching it’s head so he knew she was there. The thing that scares a horse the most in her experience is if it doesn’t know something is there then it will buck and kick like nothing else. She suppressed the smirk she wanted to expose, if she had scared the horse it may have hit Keldon, but he’d probably get sour and abuse his power to have the beast put down.

She reached down and grabbed the horses front right leg and pulled it up and outwards stretching it only a little. It wasn’t exactly necessary but she wanted this to be perfect. ”Now, you do the other leg” she instructed and stood back.

Little did the women know Keldon wouldn't of had the animal killed, although he would be a vastly amount more cautious if something like that happened, it was after all part of life. Keldon nodded his head and moved to the animal and slowly moved his hand over its nose and up behind its ear and down the main, then slowly down the other leg. Lifting it up he pulled it outwards and stretched it a little. Trying to replicate what she had shown him.

He would move his hands down the animals side and then do it over again on the rear legs. He wanted to make sure the horse could feel his touch there and knew he was there.
