[Chief Aedile's Office] - Financial Inquiry

Third Brightening of the First Cycle in the Month of Cryxatum in the Season of Spring; Era I of the Celestine Mandate, Era XIII Post Fractum. The First Era of the Regency of Milo L'Evienne.

It was only two, perhaps three candlemarks after the Concordia Incola had opened for the brightening when a letter arrived to the office of the Chief Aedile bearing the seal of the Thane, and as Johas would read the letter it was indeed a letter from Keldon.

To: Chief Aedile Johas:

I bid you greetings this brightening, I hope you had a lovely darkening this previous day. I am sending you this rather brief letter to inform you of my arrival later this brightening two candlemarks from now. Where I would like to discuss the financial situation within the city, and the proposal from myself to withdraw my salary from the cities books.

If this is a bad time for yourself then please contact me as soon as it is convienant for you.

It was exactly two candlemarks after the letter was delivered that Keldon entered the doors of the Chief Aedile's office his guard was waiting outside. Keldon had a warm smile on his face and was filled with life tilting his head to Jonas he smiled warmly. "Serale Johas,"

Jonas stood as the Thane arrived and waved at a chair. "Serale Your Grace, it's a pleasure to see you this brightening." He waited until Keldon had taken his seat before taking his own seat. He leant his elbows on the desk. "I received your letter, now what exactly was it that you had in mind?"

Keldon moved towards the chair and took a seat. "Pleasure to see yourself aswel Jonas, I hope your brightening is going well." Keldon shifted he weight slightly at the question. "at the present moment I receive 685 Gold Crowns per cycle for my service as Thane. More then enough to support myself and add to my account for future needs. However almost three thousand and a half coins per month is a ample amount of funds. Now, how would we go about removing that pay all together so I make no paycheck for my role here. The city already pays for my food and lodging and thus a paycheck is not warranted as I can survive without it. It will also allow the city to use those funds elseware. Perhaps hiring new guards and so forth."

Jonas sat and considered the question, hunching forward in his chair as he did so.

"Well the gesture is very well appreciated Your Grace. That saving will indeed allow us to increase spending elsewhere, and while in comparison to the city budget as a whole, the amount is insignificant, as you rightly point out, each crown needs to be hoarded carefully and spent wisely. Those who pay the taxes rue each crown that it costs them and we have a duty to spend it wisely." He glanced up and straightened. "That isn't to say that we shouldn't pay what things are worth, and were you to choose an alternate career, I have no doubt that you would be able to command a more than reasonable recompense there."

He steepled his fingers and touched them to the end of his nose. "It would be a simple matter to create a budget for yourself on which you can draw for expenses and the like to allow you to live in a reasonable manner and to the standard that is expected of a Thane." He smiled, "it would allow you the appearance of not being paid even though there might not be so much difference in the end. However, any saving that you made would allow us to divert the excess into deserving causes, such as the additional Guards you mentioned."

Keldon nodded his head. "Excellent, also I would like to set up a percentage of funds that would be granted upon my retirement from office so that once leaving office I have some funds to keep me living for a small length of time. Perhaps... fifteen percent of my total income as Thane is what would be paid upon retirement."

He shrugged at the request, "well I can see no real issues with that. So long as the total is no more than you are paid now and it appears that you are being paid less than you are now, then you have a political gain on your hands."

Keldon nodded his head briefly at the last statement. "Yes there is a political gain to be had. Although that is not my primary concern, the expansion of the local guard and any other project that should come to pass is going to be a strain on the city's budget.. and any location where capable cuts are allowed would be best..." Keldon paused briefly. "Also, it reminds me I requested stone to be sent to Zerd... has anything progressed for that thus far? I would like to also tack on several shipments of stone to Paxia to assist in there reconstruction. They could use anything offered, as I am sure they need not only marble to make there buildings look nice, but general stone to build new defenses and structures aswel... something that will be a hefty sum to say the least."

Keldon coughed a little then smirked, "Excuse me," he said returning his gaze to those before him waiting for a reply.

Jonas eyed the Thane momentarily to determine if it was merely a temporary inconvenience.

"Stone has been shipped to Zerdargia indeed Your Grace. Only two smaller shipments so far, but of some better quality stone. We are just waiting to hear back what their needs are so that we can send what they need. I have no doubt that the Thane there will be in contact with you at some point in that regard. I'm sure that the same will be true for Paxia if we do the same." He made no further comment regarding Paxia for that was something that he would need to look into further before being able to comment.

Keldon smiled and nodded "Very good," he said as he started to rise upwards. "I believe that will be all for now Jonas. I must meet with the Lieutenant Governor about some details regarding the expansion of the guard." he said with a smirk then extended his hand to Jonas to shake. Afterwards he would walk to the door of the thanal hall with the man then part ways.

Jonas shook the Thanes hand since it was offered and once he was alone he quickly drew up his notes for the meeting, noting down that he needed to follow up on the work with Zerdargia, and that he needed to work out the payment that the Thane had requested. It would be a simple enough matter to put aside some of the payment that would have been made directly to the Thane into a separate bank account, though that wouldn't be necessary, and then it would be available whenever the Thane retired for him to withdraw as a lump sum. Exactly how much that would be would be something that he would need to keep an eye on, but fifteen percent of the total wouldn't be so hard to calculate, and then it would just mean keeping track of it within the other budgets.

ooc: Note total amount of lump sum payable to Keldon at the end will require completion of the thread with Sharinya where she requests the details of his pay.
