Looking for Work (mod plz)
It was sort of dizzying for a Pantherii to get used to hustle-bustle of the city, let alone to a city as big as Primus Gaudeo. By asking people on the strret he came to know that the government focused itself in one great site, the Concordia Incola, in the center of the city. He took the Concordia Road from the King's Road and only then realized the grandeur of the city. from this point he could see the road stretch out all the way to a great majestic tower, all built in the same marble as the city walls. It shone radiantly for what Jonah could guess miles around.
The imponence of the building almost frightened Jonah, but now he could not turn back, having come all this way.
The sight of the tower and the gate leading to it was something that Jonah could have never imagined. He doubted that he would fit in this city, but by no chance he would give up trying.
He marched up the long road, wide enough to carry 4 chariots side by side, and passed under the archway with the Letters "Concordia Incola" engraved in metal.
It was really much for Jonah to take in, and when he arrived at the Forecourt he was still somewhat shocked, so he walked up to nearest guard, since until there there had been none, and he questioned.
"Serale, officer. I am looking for employment but this complex is way to big for me to go out on my own, do you think you could give directions on where to go next?"

The guard smiled tolerantly at the katta who had addressed him. Though they were in place mainly for ceremonial reasons, still it wasn't unusual to be addressed by new visitors, and that was part of their purpose too. The Concordia was here for the people and little point to it if they couldn't find what they needed.
Aye, tis a big place isn't it? His smile grew a little broader and he cocked his head to the right, peering an eye up at the sky for a moment as though for inspiration.
Well this is the seat of the government of the city and the Province and here ye'll find all of the offices that you could imagine and no doubt a few that had never occured to ye as well. But I can't easily direct you unless I know what it is that you are looking for. What I can tell you though is that if you do get lost then just ask the next guard and they will direct you, and guards are to be found throughout the building. If you go through the arch over there, he pointed past the fountain to the huge archway into the building, then inside you'll find some desks and the clerks there will be able to direct you to exactly where to go. Or if you know who you need to see then I can likely tell you where to find their offices.

As Jonah entered the city for the first time, he wasn't quite sure he would be well accepted, seeing as though there weren't much katta about. But the guard made him feel at home, like there were no prejudice nor preconceived ideas. That felt good.
As he went on about where was what, Jonah started to get the feeling of what the Concordia Incola rteally was. it looked like everything that was supposed to handle everything in any part of the city would be in some sort of office in this compound. And with such a big city, no wonder it was such a big place.
As the guard finished Jonah replied "No, i don't know anyone around here, thank you for the offer. I think i'll try my luck at one of the desks through that arch you pointed out. Thank you very much for all your help." Jonah nodded in appreciation and continued forward past the fountain and into the building.
Jonah adn't reached the arch and already he was starting to see the magnitude of this great building. It was big on the inside as it was on the outside. Now he did feel like an ant in the big city. There were guards lining the walls left and right, making sure there was no trouble, and a huge counter lined the other wall, clerks behind them, attending to citizen needs. Jonah filled his chest with air and walked up to a free desk.
As he approached, he took his visa in his hand, just in case
"Serale. I am new to the city and i was informed that maybe i could find a job here. Pardon my gruff appearance but i assure you i can read and write, and dealing with numbers is not much of a problem. And i'm not afraid of having my hands full of work neither" He smiled faintly as much as a katta can smile and waited for a reply.

The clerk asked for his visa as a matter of course. Someone seeking a job in the government needed to actually be citizen.
While she waited for that she had her own questions to ask. Serale and welcome to the Concordia Incola, centre of government for Centripax, can I see your visa please?
Now, the government offers just about every conceivable job from clerical to schola, road building to Governors assistant. What sort of job did you have in mind? Manual work? Clerical? Do you wish to travel or be based here? She smiled at him and waited for his answer.

That caught Jonah a little bit by surprise, he was not expecting to have such a variety of jobs open to him, so he hadn't quite thought through about what occupation he wanted to fill in.
"Well..." started Jonah, thinking out loud at the same time sharing it with the clerk "I would like it to be based here, of course. The only travelling i would like to do would be inside the city limits. Manual work?... although i am willing to do just about anything, i would like to see if i could fill in a more intellectual kind of job. I may not have the correct attitude for clerical duty but... You said something about Governor's assistant? Do you think i could fill in somewhere in that position?"
Jonah waited eagerly for the reply. If he had the chance to work as the Governor's assistant, he would be directly under the Governor... that would be a great opportunity in terms of a career, only a fool in a big city like this wouldn't take this job. And Jonah was no fool.

The clerk waited patiently while Jonah pondered the possibilities. Of course, just because a job was there didn't mean that it was available or that he'd be able to get it. But then there was no harm in trying was there?
Governors Assistant? She nodded at that. Well, I don't know exactly what is available on that front at the moment. You'll need to talk to Manijor, the Governors private secretary about what is available. If you follow that corridor over there, she pointed off to one side, and ask for him he will be able to help you further.

Jonah was eager to talk to this Manijor, for he wanted to get the job as soon as possible. He eager to start working and build up his life.
"Through that corridor you say? I think i will try it, thank you very much. In the worst case of nothing being available, i guess i will be seeing you again. Serale, and thank you for all your time" Jonah bowed slightly from the waist and proceeded to the corridor.
At the end of the corridor there was an office with a name tag out front reading "Governor's Office". Jonah stuck his head through the open door and frapped the doorframe.
"Serale. Pardon me, but can you tell me where i can find Manijor, the Governor's Assistant?"
ooc: i wasn't sure what was down the corridor, i hope this is ok.

The Hall of the Governor was hard to miss once you'd found it. Impressive in construction as was the rest of the building and containing those offices related to the Governors. Guards were there to ensure that visitors were respectful and to remove those who had no business there, but so far they had no reason to bar Jonah from the place and lots of people did come to petition the Governor.
A Governor however was extremely busy and so few of those who wanted to see her actually made it. Those who had good reason and made it past the staff whose job it was to deal with questions were often redirected to the Governors Palace since the Governor made it a point of meeting such citizens there.
Jonah had asked for Manijor and that allowed him to bypass the staff and instead he was directed to a large desk behind which sat a man of ordinary appearance and hardly what you might expect for a man who had the ear of the most important woman in the province.
He glanced up at his visitor and waved him to a chair. Serale, Manijor at your service. What can I do for you this brightening? He waited, but his eyes were curious as to what business his visitor had with him and not with the Governor.

Since Manijor had waved him to a chair, Jonah smiled and nodded.
"Oh, it seems like i've come to the right place" noted Jonah as he entered the room. From the modesty of the office, Jonah thought maybe he took a wrong turn somewhere, but that couldn't have happened, with the amount of staff directing him.
"Serale. My name is Jonah, Pleasure to meet you Mr. Manijor" he walked to the chair and sat "I was informed to come here to the Concordia Incola looking for work. At first i went to the clerks at the entrance, and when they asked me what sort of work i had in mind, i replied that i would like to work here in the city and that i was confortable with words and numbers. Something was said about a possible job offer working as the Governor's assistant or something in that area so they sent me here to see you."
Jonah tried his best to make a frst impression, just stating the facts as they were and then he smiled patiently as he waited to see what this Manijor would do about his... condition

Manijor smiled at his guest as he explained what had brought him to this point and he sat back in his chair.
That is an interesting set of choices that led you here, but yes there are always openings in the Governors office for those who are prepared to put themslves forward. Exactly which role I can guide you towards will depend in large part on what you are looking for and what I think might suit you. If you work directly with the Governor then she will need to interview you as well.
He pulled a fresh piece of paper in front of him and took a pen for notes, so tell me something about you, where you are from, what you have done before if anything, what you enjoy doing and what you might like to do. He smiled, I know that sounds a lot, but it might well trigger some suggestions as to where you'd do well. You've mentioned words and numbers, which is a good start but there are several ways that they could be useful.

Flashbacks of his past rushed to his mind as Jonah tried to sort what was relevant to this interview.
"Very Well... Where to begin?... i was born on a small village just east of here, i used to help my father, a retired Phoenix soldier, in the small farm we lived in, i attended schola where i learned to read and write and also where i learned basic arithmetics. I have no past job experience... at least paid jobs... but i was known to be a fast learner at schola."
"About myself" Jonah continued, trying to self-analyze as best as he could "I love a good challenge, in whichever form it assumes itself, and i am eager to work. I never had many possessions so i was always forced to work with whatever tools i have, in any field. I reject idleness and as such, i like to be as active as possible, wether working on a desk job or running errands." the pantherii took a breath.
" May i say that the oportunity for working this close to the Governor of the city would be a wonderful opportunity for me."
Jonah cracked his knuckles from the stress of being interviewed. He hoped that coming from a modest background had no influnce on his odds of being hired.

Manijor, it had to be said didn't do a great deal of interviewing of people since others tended to do that, and when he did interview it tended to be those who were already in the government and were wanting to move into this department.
He listened carefully nodding as he did so, noting that Jonah was a blank canvas which had its advantages and disadvantages, though of course it was a little hard to see past the disadvantages.
He put his elbows on the desk and leant his weight onto them. You like a challenge do you? Well I'm sure that I can find something that will challenge you though I'm not sure that I want to offer you a desk job as such. Tell me, how well you get on with dwarfs and how much do you know about them?

Jonah was pleased to see that Manijor might have a task for him after all.
This question about dwarves... maybe he wanted him to run an errand of some sort. Jonah knew about dwarves as much as any other man he guessed
"I get along quite nicely with dwarves i think. I hold no prejudice against then, seeing that a being, wether dorin, katta, dwarf, human or elf has value according to its actions and not because of how they were born. I know enough about dwarves to say they are a vigorous race, known for their physical endurance, their sense of honor and their preference for mountains. I also believe that it may be difficult to win a dwarf's favour but after you do, he'll respect you all your life. Apart from that i don't know what i know that might be useful. If you ask me if i can be diplomatic towards dwarves, yes i think i can hold my own quite nicely."

Manijors expression brightened at what he heard and he rubbed his hands together in satisfaction. The governor had asked him to achieve something a while ago and so far he'd been unable to make it work. The dwarfs wouldn't do it, not that they said so in so many words, but their failure rate had been consistently dismal which was very unlike them, and not only had they failed but they hadn't seem overly concerned by it. The elves, well they simply hadn't returned, a combination of facts that Manifor certainly hadn't failed to note and the conclusions were obvious if somewhat unexpected. It hinted that all his intelligence to date was wrong and that was worrying.
Well that is good to hear, good indeed. This city has a lot of dwarfs, more so than you'd find in most other cities and they can be touchy at times but katta such as yourself seem to get along with them well enough. He didn't mention that the direct job application meant that Jonah wasn't known to any others in the government, something that previously hadn't concerned him, but now did.
I have some tasks that might seem unusual to you, but really involve getting out and reporting back on the state of the city for me. I need someone who isn't a part of the government or not known to be anyway who people would feel free to talk to. The Governor has opened up a meeting point for people to approach her, but it hasn't proved very popular, so we'd like a more direct approach to find out what is happening on the streets. Would you be interested in that? If not I can find you a job here easily enough I think.

Jonah was relaxed when Manijor smiled at him, it seems that he provided the answer he wanted to hear.
"No, that's wonderful" replied Jonah "I like to be working for the improvement of the city and maybe i'm not ready to receive a desk job just yet. I would be happy to accept the offer. Off course i am curious to know how much would it pay, but apart from that i guess i am ready to start right away."
Jonah was excited about this job he was being offered, it fit everything he wanted in a job. Honest work, helping others at the same time, working for the greater good. It was perfect. And he had the chance to be sort of close to the Governor which was always a plus.
