When will the plot thicken? (Open)
Third Cycle of Cyraxtum
ooc: Please, only one or two more PC's tops.
The fallen prince of House Vamai'tai emerged from his Southern Quarter home with a certain vigor as the moon started its rise. He hoped dearly that this night would be unlike the others, that any random event would happen that would basically just liven things up. As was becoming instinct now, Kalenel stuck close to the shadows and darkness, peering at those around him from their protection.
Would anything interesting at all happen this night? A robbery, a murder, or even a simple fight would suffice for the rogue.
Inwardly though, he hoped for something much bigger...
ooc: The purpose for this thread is for Kalenel and another PC to happen upon a random event, which I will leave up to the moderator.

OOC: I am the peer mod!
A whisper startled from a nearby alley.
"Hey, hey buddy..." Came the fraternal hiss. "You wanna earn some money? You look like a angry sort." The creature emerged- a portly human with one lazy eye, one deadly eye. A scar cut across his cheek and glowed red in the moonlight.
He smiled, a black sinister smile.
"Whatcha say my friend? You look like a sharp knive, a smart fella who knows opportunity when they see it. Whaddya say?" He motioned behind him. "Want to hear what I got to say?"
OOC: Any others that want to join just start off on the same stretch of town and you will be contacted.

Kalenel's hand rested on his dagger as the crazed man approached him. Having lived and survived on the streets of the Southern Quarter for many patterns now, Kalenel easily saw the man's proposition as some sort of trick. The fallen prince would play along for now though, his current state begged for any kind of interaction. Perhaps he would beat the man for his trickery...that thought entertained the rogue.
"Not really," Kalenel spoke in response to the questions. Truthfully, he cared little of what lies the man would speak.
"But go on, please," The rogue finished with a sinister smirk of his own. All the while, Kalenel held the hilt of his trusty dagger beneath the folds of his cloak.

"We're looking for strong arms and stomachs that do not pale at the sight of blood." The human informed Kalenel and ushered him to a more out of the way location.
"If you are such a being, you'll find the work...rewarding." Out came a big smile. "To the tune of a 100 crown sonata and whatever booty recovered from the target, along with a possibility of continued lucrative contracts for those that cut the mustard, savvy?" The portly man smiled.
"Say yes and we'll introduce and become boon companions. Say no and we'll part ways, no harm done, no words said." He leaned close. "Like this never happened, savvy?"

Maybe this man was not as he thought?
Kalenel decided to retract his previous thoughts about the man. What he had said interested Kalenel greatly, it was just the thing he needed to bring some life to his night. He would not let his guard down though, knowing the likes of those in Vortex...
"I accept, who is the target?" Kalenel said bluntly, getting right to the point.
ooc: sorry for bad post, they will be better promise!

"The name is Artimus." The fat man nodded, his double chins bobbled up and down. He'd wait for Kalenel to introduce himself before continuing.
"Got a dapper dandy making a pickup tonight. Doper den up in the Orkish neighborhoods. Man hates to be sober, but the stuff he really likes...the dirty stuff, only the Orcs got it. Anyways. Problem is, he's into me for 2000 crowns, savvy?"
"What I need is this man to pay what he owes, before he spends what he has on the smack. I'll give you a 100 crowns upon receipt of the 2000 crown loan. And if ye try to screw me" Artimus leaned close. "You better hope you can run boy, real fast. But I don't think you will, you don't look stupid. This is a good thing. I'm givin' you an opportunity, ya hear? Bring home the bacon and I'll toss in the eggs- know what that makes? Makes a real fethin' great work relationship, that's what." A large hand smacked Kalenel's back.

Even as Artimus spoke of the plan, Kalenel was making plans of his own. 100 crowns was a nice haul from one nights work, but hopefully he would walk away with a little more financial security...
"You will have your money Artimus, and I will have mine as well," Kalenel started, his visage stern and his eyes glaring. He held the gaze for a moment, doing what he thought neccessary to gain the upper hand with Artimus. No matter the outcome of that exchange, Kalenel continued with the task at hand.
"Where can this man be found?"

"In the slums, southern quarter, smelliest Orc hovels you can find." Artimus grabbed a stubby pencil and dirty piece of parchment. "Left at Isyar, down to south, right at P'tekn'ar road. The man is a tall human fellow most likely wearing a bright blue suit. Black hair, large mustache twisted at the edges. Goes by the name Renalt. He usually heads down the house at 523 P'tekn'ar after the 19th candlemark. He'll be travelling alone, but he'll be at least holding a knife." Artimus scratched his chin.
"He's a bruiser, so I say stay to the shadows and get the drop on him. Now, if there aren't any more questions, I'll meet you back here at the stroke of the 1st candlemark the next brightening. Ok lad?" Artimus would answer any question Kalenel would have but otherwise it would be almost the 17th candlemark.
He would have plenty of time to prepare himself before the mission. Two miles of twisting streets Kalenel would follow his directions. Finally at about 18:45 he finally found the house indicated.
523 a two storied yellow house stood with a couple stoned humans in the front yard. The yard was large and walled off, only a small gate allowed access to the house.
P'tekn'ar was a rather silent street, the only other action was from a bar- two buildings east of the house. It had a large patio area where a rather lot of drunken orcs gathered with a couple humans and vyssies thrown in. Rough wooden tables stood outside, illuminated by the inside light and waited upon by buxom waitresses.
18:46...

With a nod that he understood the man's directions, Kalenel committed all neccessary information to memory. He was off, cloak hood back upon his head, taking the quickest route to his home in the heart of the Southern Quarter. There he had stored a few supplies that would likely help him in his mission.
With his black mask now hidden within the folds of his cloak, the rogue preceded hastily toward the inn. He arrived with about a sixth of a candlemark to go and looked around for the best hiding place where he could observe both the bar and the house. If no spot could be found worthy enough, Kalenel would stick to the shadows on the other side of the street, his midnight black cloak about him.

Against the wall and amongst the shadows Kalenel stood waiting. People walked to the house, away from the house. People walked to the bar, away from the bar. People walked from the house to the bar and back again. These two places seemed intertwined.
Approaching the bar's patio area was a tall human wearing a blue suit, expensively tailored and made of silk. The man ordered a drink and fell in amongst a couple other patrons- an orc and another human. Neither looked happy with the blue suited man and were arguing about something.
"I don't have the crowns Renalt!" Kalenel could hear one say. The human grunted and slammed down his ale. He looked upset and looked at the nearby house. Renalt shook his head and began to leave the bar, bound for the house.
Kalenel found the street empty and dark. The house had the two dopeheads out front, an unknown amount inside. The bar patio only had Renalt, the orc, and a short human that owed Renalt money.

The two orcs were the first thing one would see. Normally guardsmen, they were hunted after the recent troubles but a suspicious amount seemed to join the guard at just the moment when the orc hatred was at its height. They now served he law and the man who hated to obey it. Dimitri Wladisyaw wore his usual patrolling garb, black trollskin armour which seemed well used, a black plate gorget wrapped about his throat, a black wilk eyepatch and heavy military boots. His bloak showed the entwined sigil of his house and of the city, a glorious amalgm.
He evidently had a purpose and moved towards the strange house casting looks about him as he did so. His mouth was stern and straight, and the sword and large leather gauntlets that hung from his waist made him a threat though not so much as the heavily armed and armoured orcs who looked like they could handle a weapon.
"Renault what a suprise" He smiled as he met the man extending a hand with a view to a firm handshake, "No time for drinking now, are you heading into the house down there?" He smiled and began to walk himself indicating the man should follow. "Come I wish to know why you harass patrons outside bars these days?"

The entrance of the other characters into the situation intrigued Kalenel greatly. Knowing he had the rest of the night to get the drop on Renault, the young rogue made his way across the street farther down from where Renault and the others were. Keeping his keen eyes and ears on the bruiser, Kalenel waited for his oppurtunity.

"Oh?!" Renault stopped. "Lord Dimitri, an honor." The man looked very, very nervous. The man was pale and began to shiver.
"I weren't gonna to over there..." Renault began to mumble. "I kicked the junk nigh on three cycles ago..." He looked forelorn.
"You see I did this a favor for this new friend of mine Lord Dimitri. I was carrying something from Nexus to Vortex when I's gets robbed and beat up on the road. This friend of mine, he tells me I owe him the amount of what I lost. He tells me 2000 crowns. I don't understand all that hubub over some dang book." Renault huffed.
"I just don't. Not fair, I get roughed up, almost die, and now I'm gonna get slit unless I give him 2000 crowns! I only got 100 to my name!" Renault sniffed away a tear and jangled an empty coin purse. "I's needs some help Lord Dimitri. I can help you, you know Renault is a good man, you halfta know that, right? Good in a fight I am." He looked pitiful, just another hunted man in Vortex.
Down the street Kalenel heard it all, out of the eyesight of all. His fine hearing heard something.
tap...tap...tap...
Someone was coming, a little halo of fire illuminated the buildings down the street. It was approaching Kalenel, it was a torch. One of Dimitri's orcs snorted and faced in Kalenel's direction. In between the orc and Kalenel was the bar patio. Inb between the patio and the house were Dimitri, the orcs and Renault. The long buildings on this street afforded little in the way of alleyways for Kalenel to utilize.

"Mmmm never good for the finances, yet somehow it elates the soul, sends the mind free I find." He nodded and smiled, "Perhaps just ale then for this evening, I should cut down." He looked at the pitiful creature before him and grinned, "Perhaps you might prove useful, and any book worth that money must be worth reading." Dimitri chuckled which was echoed by his two guards, "Perhaps we should go and visit the man who gave you the package I should like to meet him and discuss this like adults."
Dimitri nodded and looked down at his foot, a large rat scuttled past and a sneer moved onto the Duke's face. "Assasins in my city, honetly what is the place coming to."

Everything was happening very fast for Kalenel, yet the young rogue kept his focus. With the news he had just heard, the man had not the money to even pay Artimus. Although he wasn't happy with this news, mostly due to the fact that he wouldn't get his cut, Kalenel still saw some oppurtunity with the night. Approaching the orc guard unthreatingly, Kalenel spoke in the common tongue, "I come from House D'Rinishad, I wish to speak with Dimitri," Kalenel said, overhearing the name of the Lord just now. Staring at the orc sternly, the young D'rinishad preceded past the orc. No one in Vortex knew not of the D'rinishads, mostly due to the legend Faust has given the name.
Still not trusting the orc to not make a violent move, Kalenel stayed alert in case of any attack his way.
