[CoF Compound] Looking for Aerienne - (private)
Winter of Era II of the Celestine Mandate, 20th of the First month of Winter , Era XIV Post Fractum.
Llanwyn’s meeting with Aerienne would be a welcomed one for him. It had been far too long since they had seen each other and Llanwyn was eager to confirm her health, as well as, find out what her decisions had been in reference to the Church of Faith positions. Of all places in the world to meet, it seemed the least logical to be in Vortex. It had to be the weakest of Church footholds, but Llanwyn knew that even the weakest deserved a helping hand.
He of course was more worried about her health. The last time he had seen her was in Diana and she had suffered a nasty spill during a flashback of some sort. He had left her fine, but if those flash backs continued, Llanwyn was worried for her sanity. After all, being a mage of the mind, Llanwyn knew how delicate it could be.
He arrived at the Church compound, the only place he figured Aerienne would be if she was still in Vortex like he had been told she was. He entered the compound a devout soul, eager to prove his worth to both the Church and the gods. Carmelya had gifted him and it was his turn to return the favor by strengthening her faithful on Telath.

Aeri had been out inspecting the Church grounds here, trying to decide how best to modify the stark and ugly buildings to better reflect the welcoming nature of the Church. She blinked when she saw a familiar figure, then a huge smile overtook her and she ran forward with arms outstretched. "Llanwyn! Serale my friend! It's so good to see you again!"
The Archprelatines who kept an ever-watchful eye stayed a respectful distance away. They knew of Llanwyn Siannodel as a friend and so relaxed a shade of the tense vigilance they had been exerting ever since arriving in Vortex.

Llanwyn opened his arms and gave Aerienne a long hug. He had missed her, he always did. Perhaps if he had never left her side, he wouldn't have struggled so for the last several months. Then again, it had made him more determined if nothing else. Still, he was happy to see her again, to hear her voice which to him was like an angel whispering from the clouds above.
He spoke to her with excitement in his voice, "It is good to see you! Your people in Diana told me where you were. I traveled from the Dolwoods."
He had ridden straight there with only one real stop in Primus Gadeo. After that, he only stopped to rest the horse and to feed her. Majestic was a great horse and Llanwyn had grown quite accustomed to her stride quickly as they rode through plains, forest and over rocky terrain. It had been quite a ride to get to know one another and Llanwyn felt blessed to have such time with nature and its beasts.
"I've come to find you as I promised I would."

Aeri beamed. "How are the Dolwoods? I've never been there myself. Did you have a hard time getting here? I've been told that there have been some terrible things going on here in Vortex lately, and the guards have been pretty suspicious."

"Actually, no."
He hadn't heard of anything in particular, but Llanwyn was always cautious when he visited Vortex. Of course, he kept his visits here short and not often. Still, he had never had trouble around this city. Who would cause trouble with a 5'6" faerie with "angel" wings in a city as dangerous as this. One never knew what he was dealing with and in Llanwyn's case they probably would know better not to know on the wrong end of his spellcasting.
He hugged her again. It felt good to feel her soft hair on his cheek. "Is there somewhere we can speak in private?"

Aeri shook her head. "I don't know this temple very well I'm afraid. But I do have quarters here where we can talk." As she started away a thought came to her. "Oh! And I have something I want to ask you. Do you remember when we spoke of you possibly being my successor? Well, I was just wondering, if you didn't get that position, would you like to be the Director of Liturgy for the Church? In that position, you would be responsible for making sure that the rituals of the Church, the spiritual teachings that help to guide our worship and ensure the protection of the faithful, remain strong and uncorrupted into the future. Do you think that is something you would Llanwyn?" She looked to him with a smile.

Llanwyn started to follow Aerienne to her quarters. Her words were a bit of a shock to him on multiple levels. First and foremost, she brought up his possibility of being crowned Archprelate. The prospect of such was about as exciting as one could get, but then she mentioned "if you didn't get that position," which immediately struck Llanwyn with a sense of "you won't be getting that position" which was all somewhat of a let down considering. But then she mentioned a position of Director of Liturgy for the Church, and this excited Llanwyn very much. He had never considered himself a holy enough person to be archprelate, but prelate would definitely work.
"Oh..." Llanwyn started, "I'm definitely interested!" He voice grew in excitement, "Does that position sit on the college of Prelates?"
He only asked because he was pretty certain the answer was yes. A position of such authority and trust would require the hierarchical title and authority to go along with it, otherwise it would simply be ignored.

Aeri smiled playfully at him. "It certainly does!" She giggled and hugged him impulsively. "And who said you weren't getting my position? I can still sense emotions and thoughts at close range, silly. I only asked about the other position just in case you didn't become Archprelate. I think you'll do a great job in either position!"

Llanwyn grinned. He had temporarily forgotten that she could sense his emotions. Still, he trusted her, with his life and with his future. If she thought he'd make a good servant of the Church, then he would trust her. After all, it wasn't as if he wasn't interested, he definitely was, but doubts in his own holiness were many.
"If you believe I will, then I trust your opinion." He hugged her, holding her close. "Thank you, Aerienne."
He continued to walk with the Allerian. "Perhaps you can come visit my House, we have purchased and are currently restoring a fortress in the Dolwoods."
While he spoke of small talk, he could hardly let go of what she had said about a possible position for him. "I have to ask you," he said, interrupting her politely. "When will you decide on positions and the like. I'm not rushing you, take your time, I'm just curious."

"Oh I'd love to visit the Dolwoods! Maybe I could after I finish my trip." She smiled. "You see, I'm traveling about trying to find the right person to suceed me. But I fear my time is growing short. There is too much chaos in the Empire and I might not have time to travel everywhere and meet everyone I should." She sighed. "And if that happens then the right person might never be found and who knows where the Church will go from there? If the Concilium Prelatum were still around I could leave this to them. It was their job to interview all the applicants for the Archprelate position and then, after prayer and consideration, pick one and submit their name to the reigning Emperor or Empress for approval. That's how I was selected. But the Concilium turned traitor and now I must do it myself."
She shook her head, unable to fully disguise the worry in her eyes. "I just hope that I do it right, for the Empire's sake."

They arrived at her quarters.
"I pray that everything goes as you wish," Llanwyn said to her with a smile. He truly meant it, whatever that was worth. The Church would only further fall apart under bad leadership, that was for certain.
"I'm afraid I cannot stay too long, but perhaps a glass of wine? I have a few more things to do to the south before I head to Prime for a short visit."

Aeri smiled. "Mineral water for me, I'm afraid. I can't drink. It makes me sick." She blushed brightly, remembering her two attempts to drink and the gentle teasing her oldest friends had had reminding her of those attempts at every opportunity. "And it always seems to lead to me wandering around in a daze or being carried home by friends for some reason."

Llanwyn took a seat and smiled at Aerienne's honesty. "Mineral water for me as well then, one mustn't drink alone, else people get ideas." He grinned again and laughed at himself.
"I'm at your will Aerienne, however you feel I can best support the Church is how I will do so. What is your wish for me?"

Aeri smiled and poured two glasses of water for them, then handed Llanwyn one.
"Well, I think the best way you can help is by getting the word out that I am looking for those who feel they can be the new Archprelate or Archprelatess. I'm only one woman and I can't travel the whole Empire." She giggled a moment. "Well, I can but it will take a long time. I trust your judgment, so if you could tell those who you feel would be good for the position to send word to Diana then that would be a big help. I can ask them to come meet me there and hopefully speed up the process for everyone's sake."

"I'll do what I can," Llanwyn said with a grin.
"For now though, I must be off. I have a long journey before me." He thought for a moment before extending his hand to take Aerienne's and kiss it softly.
"When shall I know my fate in the Church of Faith hierarchy? I hate to put it so bluntly." He really did dislike having to have said that, but he couldn't fumble around without a clue. It didn't suit his mentality... Llanwyn was far too passionate about things to let them pass him by.
