Preparing for a ball (Vers, Private, Lyssoryl)
Time Stamp: Kalendryas 48th, Winter, Era 1 of the Celestial Mandate, Era XV PF
It was the day before the big ball, and it was very busy in the kitchen. Sera looked at the sun outside, and then hoped that Lyssoryl would arrive soon, seeing as how they were busy with all sorts of orders coming in from the people, who wanted beef stew, those who wanted chicken, pork, and all other sorts of meats, vegetables, and grains. Looking towards the door, she waited patiently for Lyssoryl to arrive before starting with the cooking needed to be done for the ball and banquet...

Luckily, Sera's wait was not a long one. Lyssoryl was notoriously punctual, and it was bit odd that she hadn't shown up by now.
The Kitchen door burst open and Lyssoryl came rushing in, still tying her hair back with a ribbon. "I'm here! I'm here! I would have been earlier but a drunken reveler got hold of me, and it was all I could do to convince him that I was not a lost child who needed to be returned to her mother."
With practiced movements she tied on her apron. "What shall I do first? Has anyone cut the meat yet?"

"As always, my helpers seem to run short," said Sera. "Luckily, i've got you, who as always is punctual, and eager to help out. Thank you Lyssoryl." Smiling, she then looked towards her and said, "Yes, first we need to cut the meat, so, let's do just that..." And then she would take out a few cows. "it will take us all day to cut the meat, but we only have a few candlemarks to do it in since the ball is tomorrow night... so, let's get chopping, or cutting, or whatever you may have..." she said smiling, and then awaited a response or action from Lyssoryl...

"As always, my helpers seem to run short,"
Lyssoryl responded with mock outrage, "You can hardly hold me responsible for that! I did not ask to be born Cether." She smiled. "But you are certainly welcome, and I thank you for being such a patient teacher."
She walked to the knife block and selected her favorite meat cutting knife. She examined the edge with care, then gave it a quick sharpening with a whetstone stored in a drawer beneath the knife block.
"My opinion is that when you're in a hurry to cut meat you must make sure that your knife is sharp, or your work will go slower than necessary. This may be more true for me than for other people, since I am not a notably large and powerful cutter."
She fell to work with enthusiasm, and soon was humming to herself.

"Oh, i'm so sorry, i wasn't referring to your height, you should know that, i was referring to the number of workers i have in my kitchen. Out of all of them you are the best!" exclaimed Sera, quite apologetically. It was not every day that she got a helper as good and willing to learn as Lyssoryl, but then again, it wasn't every day that she got help at all. Sera was quite used to doing things on her own in the kitchen, but when she did get help, she was grateful for it.
Working on cutting up the meat, she smiled, and then turned to Lyssoryl. "Would you go heat up a cauldron full of water? There should already be a cauldron on one of the fires so you don't have to worry about moving one there, just put some water in, and light the fire for me..." she said, smiling, and knowing that Lyssoryl was indeed one of her best students, helpers, and quickly becoming a decent friend...

"Oh Sera, I was teasing! Please don't be upset, it would make me ever so sad."
She hurried to get a bucket and began to fill the cauldron. It took her a few trips to do as she had to use a smaller bucket. She was handy with the flint and steel though, and soon had the fire up and going.
"What are we making in here?" she asked, gesturing at the cauldron? Pasta for pasta salads? I've always thought pasta salads were festive."
She returned to her station and began making a few more cuts of meat.
OOC: I really shouldn't have made a secondary with a name that began with the same letter as my primary. It's really making it easy to not notice I need to switch.

OOC: Tis okay.
IC: "It is not a problem at all my good student..." said Sera. "In this cauldron, we are going to be making that beef stew that i taught you in the very first few days of cooking it. So, let's review, what was the first step we did in making the stew?" she asked, and then awaited a response from lyssoryl...

Lyssoryl struck a contemplative pose. She was in a fine mood today as the festival seemed to have seeped into her blood.
"Hmm...I believe that it all started with my mother giving birth to me and shoving me in an orphange. From then on, my life lead inexorably to that fateful stew. But skipping my formative years, I believe that I started by putting water in a freshly washed pot and bringing it to a boil. While this was happening, I cut beef into cubes of about an inch or a bit less. Flour and milk were then added for body and creaminess."

"Good job, now, let's have you work on cutting up the beef cuts right now, and i'll get the water boiling, mmk, we're going to be serving close to 20 cows at least in this ball, so let's get everything prepared for it!" she said, and then began to pull out the cows, as well as get the water boiling. She might not have looked the type, but she was incredibly strong, and strong willed, ready to teach Lyssoryl anything, so long as it was within her proficiency level...

"20 cows!" Lyssoryl's eyes widened. "Whoosh, we certainly do have our work cut out for us, as it were. I now regret not coming even earlier. Perhaps we should get some sort of guillotine or something. Oh well, I suppose it's too late to hope for technology to save us."
She tested the edge of her freshly sharpened knife, and then went to work on the carcasses. She started by making large cuts and laying them aside, with a plan to come back to them and cut them smaller later on.
"Are you going to have a chance to enjoy the festival yourself, or will you be stuck here in the kitchen for the whole thing? I hope you are going to have some good help tomorrow getting all the food served."

"i've definitely been enjoying the festival... It's always nice when this time of the year comes along, because the council always does something fun like this to keep the people happy, and i'll personally be attending the ball, suffice to say i don't have a date yet. Since you're working in the kitchen, you can attend the ball for free, would you like too?" she asked, as they continued to work, cutting up the meat, and getting it ready to put in the water that Sera had boiling...

"Oh yes! I would definitely like to go to the ball. Sadly I don't have a date either. This is the basic tragedy of being a Cether living amongst humans- there aren't a lot of men about who are eager to woo a woman who only tips the scale at 30 pounds. It is even worse here at Imaden. As you've probably noticed, Cether are not notable as a race for their magical ability." She considered the matter a moment. "Perhaps I can attract a gnome. I could put a small mechanical devise under a box propped up with a stick, and when he goes to collect it, I can yank the stick free and sit on the box until he agrees to bring me to the dance."

Sera let out a laugh that could have sounded extremely painstaking, but was managable, as what Lyssoryl had said amused her greatly. "There are cether here, one of our fine masters, and Ikomancer, Rosalind is a cether. Perhaps the two of you could get together, and go man hunting yourselves?" asked Sera, noting the position that Lyssoryl was in, in the back of her mind...

"There is something in what you say, although if we go together then we are in direct competition. I would very much hate it if some gallant young cether lad took a fancy to me over her and she placed some sort of curse on me or something out of jealousy."
She continued to cut the meat as she talked.
"I really shouldn't complain, I haven't been out of school much to meet people so my poor love life is really my fault. It's just been so cold! We small folks don't carry as much heat with us as you taller people."

"Well, at least it is warm within our small little kitchen," said Sera, happy in the warmth of the kitchen instead of outside in the cold winter's air. "Anyways, it was just a thought... now, where were we?" she said, as they continued to cut the meat. After another candlemark or two, the cows had finished being cut, and they were ready to start placing them in the boiling water. "So, let's let these boil for a tid bit, and then we can begin to make the cream. We may need a few more cauldrons... would you mind setting some more up over the other two fire places?" she asked...
