Firekiller Sword

A Firekiller is a hand-and-a-half or 'bastard' sword made of a strange, black metal. It has a wavy-edged blade, a cross-piece in the form of a bat wings, and a pommel in the likeness of a snarling wolf with rubies for eyes.

Forged by Vysstichi Elementalists in the days before the Empire, they were created to fight dragons, and are enchanted with a spell which sucks the energy from any form of fire, and transfers it to the wielder. This allows the wielder to re-energise and heal even major wounds by sticking the point of the blade in a fire.

However, if the energy drawn is too great it can kill the wielder. According to legend the only person to put one of the blades to their intended use, having slain the dragon supposedly ran the length of his island homeland and then died.

The only example of a Firekiller to be seen in the Empire was found in a junk-pile in a smithy and is in the possession of Moranor Andares. Two of the blades were re-made into amulets with the intent of using their enchantments for their protection value, but this destroyed the enchantment. The where-abouts of the other four are unknown.
