In
Arcana, a talisman is a magical source of power, believed to be
imbued with nearly infinite energy. They are almost always naturally occurring and manifest in a variety of shapes and sizes, as does the nature of their power. For example, the most common talismans appear as orbs or baubles and radiate
elemental power that can increase the intensity and magnitude of the spellcaster who depends upon that source of power. Other talismans have a unique source of energy that may be drawn from for any sort of purpose, magical or otherwise. The sources of this energy vary and often display their own unique characteristics. Talismans are considered extremely rare.
Description
Most, if not almost all, of the talismans discovered throughout the world are naturally occurring deposits of material energy sufficiently limited in their scope and use but remarkably nearly neverending in their supply of energy.
Druids and
Elementalists tend to benefit the most from these talismans. Sometimes, a Talisman will emerge that was created by a being of immense power, usually from beyond our world or dimension; an example of such a talisman is the famous
Aethergem, believed to have been constructed at least in part from materials blessed by
gods. Every now and then, an overly-ambitious mage will attempt to create a device that approximates the power or behavior of a talisman, and may even call these devices such, but ordinarily these instruments are almost always magical
cyphers.
