At the Temple [Steve]

First Week of Winter, Era of the Start of the War with the Orcs

A gleaming blast of white entered the Temple as Paladins of the Church of Faith opened its front doors and walked in, the sunlight beaming off their shiny silver and white armor. As the door closed behind the four of them, the blinding light that had been took a moment to dissipate. One of them walked forward to a priest...

"Priest, we have come to make use of the Temple for the Archprelate Siannodel, himself. He shall arrive in a short time and with him a team of craftsmen and Church magi. We will need the Temple and common rooms you may have to work in. The Archprelate offers his apology if this is inconvenient, but with the encroaching war it is definitely necessary."

A Priest watched as the four paladins entered the Temple. One of them walked forward to the Priest, simply referred to him as "priest" and made known that the Archprelate would need use of the Temple and common rooms. The Priest had the highest respect for the Archprelate but he was taken aback by this individual who just walked into the Temple and started to give orders without even introducing himself or showing any deference.

The Priest said, "The High Priest of Sheria is not available but the High Priest of Taralon is here. I will advise him of your presence and the needs of the Archprelate. I am certain that we will make the Archprelate and his staff comfortable. You have not yet made known your name and title."

The Priest pointed to a bench near the entry.

The Paladin who had spoken to the priest turned to the others and nodded. They each nodded in return and left the Temple at once. He turned back to the priest, "Thank you. They will alert the Archprelate of the arrangements." Then his gaze turned to sadness.

He walked to the bench and immediately fell to his knees in front of it, removing his helmet. "I am sorry, please do not think my behavior ordinary of me. The Church is my life, my faith is my life." As a Paladin of the Faith, this was undeniably true for some and torture for others.

"I am Tinius the lesser of Candaceburg." He looked up at the priest, "I do apologize."

As the Priest had heard, Paladins are a devoted and disciplined lot. With a simple nod the Palidin who was obviously in charge, conveyed his orders. This impressed the Priest.

Then the Paladin apologized and introduced himself. The Priest's face reddened when he saw a mighty warrior humbling himself before a simple Priest over a mere slip while seeking to make important arrangements. The Priest bowed deeply and said, "The Church and my faith are my life as well, but my role is much simpler than yours. My name is Demetri. I am a simple Priest who is honored to help you serve the Archprelate. I will be back soon."

Demetri walked off quickly and did return quite soon. With him was another Priest, an older man who nodded and said, "Welcome to Taralon. I am Boris, I apologize for the absence of the High Priest, he will be gone for at least two cycles. He has been fasting somewhere in the wilderness. The High Priest's quarters are being cleared as I speak. He will be honored to have the Archprelate stay there. Demetri and the servants will remain to see to your needs. The other Priests and I will be at the Hospital preparing for the arrival of casualties."

He then bowed to the Paladin and added, "Is there anything I can do before I leave"?

Tinius stood. "I have been ordered to ask you to close the temple to visitors." He knew this order might not be swallowed so well. "The Archprelate will need this space for workspace, but assures that no damage will be done to the temple. If the temple incurs any damage, it will be repaired. He suggested that perhaps a service could be held outside once a brightening for those coping with the war."

The paladin hoped the two priests would take this idea with understanding, as the Archprelate had been a passionate person to Tinius, very kind to the paladins and everyone else he met. Just then, another Paladin entered the temple and bowed to the two priests, then pounded his chest to his superior officer. "Sir, he will be here shortly. We have come with the tables and supplies." Tinius nodded and the Paladin left.

Boris listened and then replied, "That will not be a problem. The Temple will be open only to the Archprelate and his staff. Of course Demetri will serve as your facilitator as needed. That should take care of the Archprelate's requirements, and now I must tend to other matters and leave you in the hands of Demetri. I am confident that he will handle your needs adequately."

(OOC: I took the liberty of controlling Demetri to a small degree... if this is okay please let me know, if it's not, please let me know. Thanks.)

Tinius thanked Boris and led Demetri to the front door to show him what the Paladins would be bringing in. Two Paladins came up to the front doors from the outside and helped Tinius and Demetri lodge the doors open while tables and supplies were brought in from a caravan of carts, horses and mules just outside. A small group of citizens had gathered to watch the Paladins in their blinding white and silver garb.

Two by two they entered the temple with light wooden tables, one at each end, maneuvering the furniture so as not to hit or damage anything in the building. And as each set down their table, they knelt in a quick and quiet prayer as was customary of the Paladins when they entered a Temple. Then in their same pairs they exited to fetch another table.

Thirty-five tables in all were brought in and spaced about the Temple floor. All chairs and wooden benches already inside the Temple were lifted carefully (if not attached to the floor) and set to the sides of the Temple walls so as to not be damaged or used during this time. After the tables were situated, Paladins began bringing in chairs by the dozen until there were twice as many chairs as tables.

Then, with a shouted order, all of the Paladins took a knee and looked to the floor. A clanking at the door to the temple revealed Sir Dimitri, the dwarven head of the Paladins enter the room. He nodded to Tinius who he had put in charge of organizing this space and then to the Priest who he had not yet met. Then the dwarf, in all his serious demeanor, turned to face the door.

Like a shadow in the light that beamed into the temple space, the Archprelate Llanwyn Siannodel entered through the door and walked up to Sir Dimitri. "Are we ready?" Sir Dimitri nodded, "Indeed, I will introduce us to the priest." They walked up to the priest, Demetri, to introduce themselves.

"It is my honor to introduce you to the Archprelate Siannodel," said Sir Dimitri as they came close to the priest next to Tinius who was kneeling and eying the floor as was customary. Sir Dimitri had the introductions down, after all, this was the second Archprelate he had served. After getting the priests' name, Sir Dimitri would introduce himself as a "humble servant" as always.

This introduction would mark a historic moment in the history of both warfare and the city of Taralon. If Llanwyn's idea worked, arcanic warfare would be advanced significantly... and this was only the beginning. And it would have originally happened in Taralon, which was well known for its gadgeteering and intelligence.

Llanwyn shook hands with Demetri, who bowed and knelt before the oversized Fae. "My lord, your excellency, it is an honor." Llanwyn put his hands on the man's shoulders and motioned for him to stand. "Do you devote your life to the gods and this temple?" he asked with a serious gaze. The priest nodded. Llanwyn smiled and embraced the man's hand and forearm, "Then it is my honor to meet you, you are truly a holy soul." With that, he left the priest with a grin from ear to ear and walked to the tables.

"They are arriving now," said Sir Dimitri. And as he stated this simple fact, in came a number of men, elves and half-elves dressed in different color robes. They were magi, each wearing a robe according to his sphere and level of ability. Twenty-five in all entered into the Temple, eleven of them in stark white, four in green, four in purple, three in red, two in blue and one in an all-together different outfit of brown leather with a white, gold and creme colored overcoat and feathered hat.

Ten of those in white were adepts of thaumaturgy and one master of the sphere. Of those in green, three were adept and one a master druid. Those in purple represented sorcery, three adept and one master again. One of the those in red was a master elementalist while the other two were adepts and of those in blue, both were adept mystics. And the one wearing different clothing was a master bard. Each were highly trained in their chosen spheres and each were about to attribute their wealth of knowledge and understanding of the arcane to help the Church of Faith overcome a grave shadow in Sheria. They were the Church magi, those loyal to the Archprelate.

Each of them stood before the Archprelate and bowed or made a signal of obedience in their own way. The hedge mage leader of the Church surely granted their respect, but there was no doubt among them those who disagreed with his choice of hedgemagery. Still, they had his attention, he had their loyalty and hard work. "Serale," started Llanwyn, "I have brought you all this way to Taralon in order to have you make history." With this, he raised the eyebrows of several of the mages present.

Llanwyn signaled to Sir Dimitri who brought him a metal cylinder from those being brought to the tables in barrels. "This is not just a metal pipe, gentlemen. It is horse that will carry our armies to victory and beyond this war help advance applicable arcana in the Empire." One of the magi, the Master Sorcorer, asked.. "How is that, your excellency?" Llanwyn liked ambition as long as it was focused, this sorcorer was focused.

"We shall imbue some and enchant others of these pipes with propulsion spells of various types... force and wind the primaries. We will direct the propulsion in one path and have it as such a strength that it will blow a small object thirty or so yards." With that, there was a small murmur among the crowd. Llanwyn looked to the Master Sorcorer who had spoken before, "Is this doable?" The man nodded, "I believe it is very doable." Llanwyn smiled.

"Good," he said, walking the floor in front of them, speaking to each of them with his eyes. "We will begin by making test models, one using force and one using wind. We shall attempt to propel pieces of wood for testing, but on the battle field shurikens and other things will be propelled. Any suggestions?"

The Master Sorceror was the first to step forward, "I believe simply getting started will bring about its own questions, my lord." He looked to the others and they nodded. Llanwyn nodded to him and spoke, "Cornelius, good... I believe you are right. Let us get started then, yes?" Llanwyn motioned to the tables, "Find a place and on the tables I believe you will find ample supplies, including there devices in which we will be testing our theory."

Llanwyn motioned for Cornelius to come with him, as well as, the druids present. Then he looked to the crowd once more and spoke loudly so as to be heard over the chatter, "Please take time only to hypothesize for now. We will be testing these devices one by one upon completion. The first table will go first, and then the second and so on."

Cornelius lifted one of the cylinders and looked to Llanwyn, "A single direction, yes?" Llanwyn nodded, "The trick would be getting maximum distance from minimum force, so as not to cause seriously injury to those in close proximity, but because of the compact space inside this device, force will build up quickly." He smiled, "That should make things much easier."

Llanwyn was glad to hear that. He consulted with the druids for a few moments and got the same consensus using wind spells, that with the small chamber the air would have time to build up pressure. The experimentation would now begin.

Atl stepped into the room as he said he would at the time requested. Behind him came the Sorcerer who had teleported him. He approached the first priest. "Serale I need to visit with his holiness the Archprelate."

The priest turned to face Atl and smiled, "Yes of course." He turned and pointed into the temple interior. "He is in there, just arrived a short time ago, he and the Church magi are inside." Then he waved the way to Atl.

Upon entering the temple interior, Atl and his sorceror would find two dozen tables and a plethora of mages strewn about the room, all discussing something very inquisitively, some even passionately. On the tables were piles of metal cylinders.

Paladins lined the walls of the interior and watched as the Imperial Magus entered. One of them quickly walked over to Atl. "Imperial Magus, my lord," he said, bowing swiftly, "Let me bring you to his holiness." Then he turned on his heels and escorted the group.

"Magus Myrsa, I am glad you came," Llanwyn said, seeing them from a short distance. "We have quite the operation going on here, wouldn't you say?"

The Imperial Magus noded his head in agreement to the Archprelate. "Serale friend." He said bowing his head. "This is quiet the operation that is for sure. What are some of the efforts that you are working on."

"The effort." Llanwyn said it with enthusiasm and excitement. "The effort... only one, singular." With that, Llanwyn motioned for the Imperial Magus to walk with him. He pointed out the metal cylinders, even grabbing one from a table and handing it to Atl. "These are just as they appear to be, metal cylinder-shaped objects. I have had this idea for some time and a fine craftsman by the name of Zim Rage made these to help me develop it further."

Llanwyn motioned to the entire lot of mages strewn across the room, "Imperial Magus, you are looking at the breadth of the Church's mages. All of the holy church's resources in arcana are being brought here to develop what I have nicknamed the "Apa." We've just begun actually, your input is greatly respected of course."

With that, Llanwyn continued with the explanation, "The idea behind Apa is to propel different types of light objects through the cylinder in a single direction with the use of arcana." He motioned to one end of the cylinder, "Enchant or imbue this end with a wind or force spell aimed in the opposite direction and then feed an object into the same end, it should in theory be propelled out the other end in that direction. So there you have it, Apa... arcana propelled apparatus."
