Blayde is unknown and forgotten
[Peddlers' Street] New Prospects (Steve; Open)

Aperitus; Summer of Era II of the Celestine Mandate

The noise and traffic of the place was enough to make anyone scramble to the nearest open district, unless of course, they liked such an atmosphere. Blayde was not one for crowds; nevertheless, the marketplaces of Peddler's street were ablaze with all sorts of amusements, attractions, wares, people, and animals. Many stalls and tents were colorful, filled with every oddity and trinket imaginable, alongside men and women trying to make living in the much poorer East District.

He passed by fish stalls and meat tents, candle-makers and tanners. Butchers and smiths worked as neighbors, as space was limited among the vast pool of entrepreneurs. All in all, it was an amazing colorful place, and not just because of the people, but because of the creativity in them. And on the plus side, at least in Blayde's case, it would allow him to disappear within the crowds, a perfect business spot for a man not willing to be seen.

Unfortunately, and much to his displeasure, Blayde knew that a legal business was not possible without a permit. And of course, no permit would be given unless a legal visa could be shown. Though Blayde had been able to pass the gate guards with forged papers, he did not want to press his luck with the Aedile. Plus he had limited resources. He hated mingling around the law, but at this point, he had not much of a choice until his financial bearings could be established. Besides, he had reasoned, he was just going to setup a small fortune-telling tent, not a huge storefront. He figured he could get away with it, at least for a short while.

As he passed by Brightstar Stables, he decided to ask for some information that might help him get established. Noticing one of the breeders, he gave a slight cough, trying to sound like a normal Taralonian citizen, and asked, "Serale, sir. You might know where I could find some cheap tent cloth and poles, or perhaps an unused tent around here?"

This was a fortunate day for the Stable Hand. Early this brightening he had been told to dispose of an old tent that had been used for storing old spare wagon parts. However the Wainwright had a lean-to built because the tent leaked. Now the Stable Hand could have this fellow haul off the tent and there might be a few crowns to boot.

He said to Blayde, "Well, we just happen to have a tent that's not being used. The poles, pegs and lashings are sound and the canvas has only a few small leaks but nothing that a tad of beeswax won't fix. The tent is square, three meters on each side, with a peaked top. It's yours to haul off right now for only 15 crowns.

The Stable Hand pointed to the tent which was still standing. It seemed sturdy enough. The canvas was faded but there were no apparent tears or holes.

Blayde nodded at the Stable Hand's offer. It sure wasn't the best tent around, but at a cheap price, it would serve it's purpose. Hopefully, it wouldn't rain much these next few cycles. Reaching into his pocket, Blayde grabbed a handful of coins, counted out fifteen crowns, and handed it over to the Stable Hand.

"Much appreciated."

He walked over to where the tent was standing and checked out the quality. It was a little worn from the weather, and some holes did decorate the canvas a bit, but for the most part it would provide some privacy for his future customers, as well as a place to sleep at night. The poles, pegs, and lashings were of a good quality, and well worth fifteen crowns themselves. Blayde dismantled the tent as quickly as possible, and bound up the canvas, poles, and lashings with some of the tent rope.

As he hoisted the boundup tent upon his left shoulder, Blayde noticed the Stable Hand still mingling around in the area. Seizing upon the opportunity for some quick information, he called out to him. "Sir, one more thing, do you know the name of the man the leads this provincial army I've heard about? Here's five crowns if you can tell me where he lives as well.

Blayde grabbed five crowns from his pouch, waiting to give them to this Stable hand for the information if he gave it; otherwise, Blayde would head off to find a new location for his tent.

When Blayde reaching into his pocket, grabbed a handful of coins and counted out fifteen crowns, the Stable Hand grinned and held out his hand.

After paying for it, Blayde then checked out the tent and seemed satisfied with it. After he hoisted the boundup tent on his shoulder, Blayde asked the Stable Hand if he knew the name of the man the leads this Provincial Army. He offered five crowns to find out where he lived as well.

The Stable Hand laughed and said, "I got no idea who's the leader of the Provincial Army". He gave directions to the Sherian Serpent Conscription Center and said, "They probably don't know who the leader is either." He did not reach for the five crowns.

Blayde nodded at the Stable hand's response, put the crowns back into his pouch, and walked off with the tent. So far, he had acquired a house and small-time storefront for little more then fifteen crowns. Life as a gypsy had taught him to get the best out of the worst. Fortunately, though the Stable hand did not have the information he had wanted, Blayde was tipped off to the location where more information would be had.

With the tent secured on his shoulders, Blayde maneuvered through the crowd, dodging the myriads of people, as he followed the directions the young man had given him. Before his tent was setup, he would go to the new recruitment center and check on some more information.
