Intermediate Broadsword - Vincent [Private]

Timestamp: Morning, the Third Brightening of Optia, Era I in the Celestine Mandate, Era X Post Fractum.

Melee Hall One was a large, single-roomed building situated within the rough campus of the Combat faculity that had developed in the Synesi Plateia. The building was made from stone, as most of the city's richer buildings were, and had a pair of huge wooden door at the front, both of which stood open in order for the gentle breeze that sometimes wafting past the classroom to seek its way inside, and cool the bodies of the students hard as work on their close combat skills.

As Vincent entered the hall, it was noticable that the large classroom was capable of taking on more than one lesson at a time, and several pairs of students and teachers were already engrossed in the lesson of the days, some using swords, some using axes, and occasionally a more exotic weapon could be spotted too.

The hall of the training room was wooden, but had not been polished to a great shine, in order to give students more grip on their feet as they practiced. The bare stone walls were lacking any decoration. Around the room, various pieces of equipment had been left. Several weapons racks had been stood up against the walls, some holding proper steel weapons, but others holding practice replicas made of wood. Stuffed straw dummies in their frames had been lined up against one wall in particular, apart from the couple that were being used for demonstration purposes in lessons. Other than that, a few chairs were dotted here and there, handy for short breaks, or discussing the theoretical aspect of combat.

One teacher seemed to lack a student, and his gaze turned to Vincent as he entered the door. He was a tall, human man, not too old. Judging by his looks, he was probably in his mid-twenties, and had sandy brown hair that had been cropped short, for ease when teaching his broadsword students. Presumably, the man was Frim Colulieth, Vincent's Intermediate Broadsword instructor.

Vincent had to admit this place was and inspiring sight. Its high sealing, it's many instructors. the hole room seamed to just scream out instruction. As Vincent continued to gaze around the room his eyes came to rest on a sole instructor his instructor. Moving across the room Vincent stopped in front of the man. " Private Vincent Stefan. Hear for training as was pre arranged." Vincent followed his words with a salute. Then went into attention and waited for the instructors response.

Frim looked up from his day dreaming, he was a bit stunned when his student saluted him. It had been a while since he'd been back on the base but he still could go with standard military protocol. He returned the salute, "Well Private Stefan, it seems we have something in common. I also am in the military but not active at the moment. I am Master Sergeant Frim Colulieth, but during your training here call me Frim. If you want to discuss military experiences we'll do that after training."

He walked over to the wall and retrived the training broadswords, even though this was Intermediate training he still prefered bruises the deep gashes that came along with using real swords at the beginning. He tossed one to Vincent "Now, first of all, lose the military attitude for this training. Get all of your 'yes sirs' out right now. When I'm training you I want your replies to be short and sweet, not impeded by 'sirs'" stated Frim in a unmistakably serious voice.

Vincent was more than glad to loose the military jargon. Always having to say "yes ser" and "No ser." It really gets on your nerves after a wile.

Sanding firm in his best ready stance, Vincent took his first look at the blunted Broadswords he had been given. The weapon had the look of any other broadsword except that its end was blunter than a butter knife. After taking a couple practice swings with the sword just to be sure the weapon was usable, Vincent turned his attention to the teacher and signaled he was ready for the lesson to begin.

The teacher looked down on his student for a few seconds before he walked of to a pale of water and kicked it over. Then making a sweeping motion with his hand explained his action. " To become a grate swordsman you must first understand the idea of fluid motion. Look at his water on the floor see how it moves constantly running always in motion. This is what you as a swordsman must do. You must take the constant movement and energy of you opponent and us it to your advantage." The teacher stopped to let what he had said sink in before continuing. "Now I want you to come at me with all of you strength and then see how you do. NOW COME AT ME!"

Vincent did as he was told and charged strait at his teacher. Picking up more and more speed he continued to charge. The teacher just stood in place waiting calculating. As Vincent reached his teacher the man let out a quick blow with his sword that sent Vincent’s sword flying and Vincent himself. With a skid and a thud Vincent came to a rest on the ground.

Without so much as a grunt the teacher continued to stand were he had been. Looking to were Vincent now lay he stated. "So tell me how did you fail?"

Vincent was slow in getting back up. That hit had hurt. Finally when he was back on his feet he answered the instructor. "I do not know, you must be stronger then I am." Vincent could not help but feel weak why had he failed he had been shore he was going to score a grate hit on the man, so why. Vincent was still pondering this as he looked up toward the teacher for his answer.

The instructor only shook his head. "You still do not understand do you? It was your own force that pout you were you are now, not me. I simple used that fore to my advantage." With a quick swipe of his sword the instructor returned to defense position. Now try again.

Three more two weeks passed and Vincent began to get better and better at the use of others force. However today was the real test he was to go up against anther person to see who would come out victories. The winner would get there signature of completion the looser would have to continue there training until anther opportunity like this arose.

Vincent’s opponent was a Katta a very big and mussel bound Katta trained by a Saurid with an ego problem. The Katta was currently swiping his wooden training sword at a dummy of Vincent’s body scoring hits in vary us, vital places. The whole seen was one that would sake even the most hardy of worriers.

Looking down at his pupil the instructor could only fell for him. However as the instructor all he could do was motivate not step in. Standing before Vincent he gave his final pep speech. "Vincent you have made me proud these last few weeks, however that was only a peeper for this your final test. Now I know he may look quit powerful but if you remember your training he should be a peace of cake." With that the instructor stepped back to allow Vincent to enter the ring.

Vincent stepped forwards into the secular ring that was to be the fighting area. Even though he was trained to use others force this Katta was huge and Vincent could not but fell out of place and alone.

Taking a few swipes with his training sword Vincent tested the fell, it was a bit heavy but not to the point that it was an encumbrance. With a final swipe Vincent signaled that he was ready.

The Katta immediately came on strong charging strait for Vincent. As the beast continued his running stride, Vincent only stood were he was focusing his mind and body. Faster and faster the Katta continued to run until finally it reached Vincent and shot its blade out strait for Vincent’s sword arm. The blade never reached its target for Vincent’s blade shot out for the Kattas blade meeting it half way. Using nearly none of his own fore and more of the Kattas Vincent was able to send the creature off balance. Resulting in the Katta falling to the ground.

However the Katta was not going to be beaten so easily and so jumped back up from the ground to his feet and began the attack anew. Again charging towards Vincent but instead of stopping the blade Vincent allowed it to come, and as the Katta stabbed out for Vincent’s gut, Vincent side stepped his opponent allowing him to fall out of the cercal.

With the Katta out of bounds Vincent was the winer.

Vincent almost could not believe he had stopped the Katta. However even in his disbelief he new why. The Katta had lost the battle for itself; Vincent had only pushed it in the right direction. Though the victor Vincent decided that proper educate was to be his own interest and he walked over to help the Katta up.

The Katta was not in such a good mood and as Vincent reached his hand out the Katta smacked it away. And slowly got up on its own, dusted itself off and left the room. Its instructor Saurid following close behind yelling all the way.

Vincent’s instructor was not shocked or even fazed in the least as he approached though his face curved up into a smile. "I new you would win, That Katta was all about brut force and had no idea of how much that force could be used against him. Well you have won and with this victory you have learned all that I have to teach you. Congratulations you have passed intermediate Broadsword." With that the instructor left for anther class and Vincent was left alone to celebrate as he saw fit.
