AToI Agaenos (Intiate Elementalism)

[Spock]

Soon a soldier marched towards Agaenos after a few minutes of scheduling, and information being inserted into his profile. Agaenos was soon greeted by kales. Kales eyed the larger human. Kales stood about the size Agaenos did he was a darker skinned human from Arkamat. A gold earing hung in fright in his ear. He also wore scimitar on his side, and wore a black vest with his bare skin showing where the vest did not cover, and the baggy mid eas t like pants to match. He grinned "so your my other student...hmmm well let us get busy. We have much to learn....now come with me."

Kales took off his vest and put on a thick coat in the shape of a tunic. Some warm swordsman gloves, and some boots made for the cold. After all it was winter one had to be prepared especially for one who dwelled in the hottest place in the empire.

Kales then lead Agaenos to the fields outside Abestat "so tell me what do you know of Elementalism? Also why do you wish to learn it?"

[Agaenos Phidion]

A brief moment after the scheduling, an Arakmatian Human, Kales, came and greeted him (which he shook hands in return). At about the same size, his Elementalism teacher had a gold earing hanging from his ear - a sign of moderate wealth, he deemed. "Much better to spend the money on armour and weapons, I'd say..." he thought somewhat mischeviously. The scimitar on his side was of good quality, a blade capable of cleaving flesh into shreds. Still, however, Agaenos held his own two blades in higher respect than Kales' blade.

"So you're my other student... Hmmm, well let us get busy. We have much to learn... now come with me."

Nodding, the student followed the teacher, who was wearing a thick coat, and warm gloves and boots, somewhat like his own.

Soon, the City of the Abe River was behind them. They were in the fields beyond.

"So tell me what do you know of Elementalism? Also why do you wish to learn it?" He asked.

"Well..." he answered with an air of mysteriousness but sincerity as well, "I remember my father telling me Elementalism manipulates the Elements of Air, Fire, Water... and..." he thought for a moment, and became enlightened. "Air! Of course. How the Elementalist do that, of course, I never knew - I had never been a practitioner of Arcane.

"As to why I wish to learn it, I remember in my travels back in my youth, an Elementalist battling some raiding Orcs. His power was great! I really wished from that moment I could achieve something similar. Besides, I was always interested in the four Elements, how they may affect this place... this..." He searched for the right word, "Plane, is that correct?"

He walked on, listening intently on Kales.

[Spock]

Kales nodded as he listened to the description given to him,a nd the answers. They same to be the basic answers of one who is simply interested, and of course desires the power that can possibly come with being one. Kales then continued "Excellent, I am glade you have an interest and a sort of idea of what the Elements are and such."

Kales then touched the shoulder of Agaenos, and almost instantly Agaenos got dizzy. He began to see beautiful colors all a round him. All living things began to highlight with some type of aura of a sort. He felt chills going up and down his spine. Agaenos could only stand in a daze, and bewildered state as his mind and being was being unbound and free to use Arcana int he world.

Kales the said "if you wonder what is happening that is quite simple. You are being unbound which is freeing your mind and body to practice Arcana. The weird colors is the Ara the outside Arcane energies that are naturally every where in the empire."

Kales would explain more, but decided to let Agaeno return to normal after the effect wore off..."Don't worry the affects will wear off soon."

[Agaenos Phidion]

Agaenos smiled as Kales expressed his agreement on his answer. It is a good thing he heard a lot from Crown Inn and Tavern, as well as from his father...

At length, Kales tapped on Agaenos' shoulder.

"Hmm - Ack..."

From a state of perfect clarity, Agaenos delved into dizziness. He stumbled backwards three paces, attempting to steady himself as a drunkard would. Wonderful colours flitted before his eyes - violet, velvet, ocean blue, sky blue, forest green, red of Rak's Crimson Sigil... it alternated too quickly for comprehension to such a simple (up to now) Human. He was whirling around in a world of wonder - or else the wonderful world is whirling around him. Dimly, he noticed that all living things, Kales and himself especially, radiated in with a special light - like an aura envelopping them. Removing both sword hilts from the belt, he attempted to steady himself with them, spreading his feet apart. Dazed and bewildered, the words of Kales etched deeper into his mind than anything else at the moment.

"If you wonder what is happening, that is quite simple. You are being unbound, which is freeing your mind and body to practice Arcana. The wierd colours is the Ara, the outside-Arcane energies that are naturally everywhere in the Empire."

Agaenos can utter no word of bewilderment and joy, except "By Aslan... this is... blimey..."

"Don't worry - the effects will wear off soon."

Steadying himself, he nodded at Kales' direction, before waiting for the effects of Unbinding to wear off enough to let him resume normal consciousness...

Kales patiently waited for Agaenos to phase out, and return to reality. Kales then grinned Vis is what the energies are inside you. The Ara is the arcanic energies outside you. You will use your Vis to connect to the Ara. This is done by focusing on your vis and making a mental connection with the ara. Once the connection is made you will will have to be careful how you use your Vis or you can such it clean and in turn kill you. "

He then let it sink in and continued "this connection or channel will lead to the connection to our plane which is the elemental plane. We draw upon its energies to then shape the energies which are spells. In battle I would not use it as you fight per say since initiates take about 4-5 minutes to cast a spell. As you go up the ladder your casting time will decrease, and the power increase. You can also increase spell casting by practicing. Perhaps with the archers would be a better idea when using arcanic energies."

Kales then asked "
does this make since to yea I know it hard at first....

Kales then handed Agaenos a bulb like glass container with a special cork inserted. He then explained "because of you active role int he military the officials wish to bless you with this item. IN that orb you will see a clear greenish solution. It is a very high grade acid can dissolve steel and flesh quite easily. Throw it at the enemy you desire or thing, and it will bust upon it and in seconds do its deed."

Soon, the sensation faded, and Kales continued.

"Vis is what the energies are inside you. The Ara is the arcanic energies outside you. You will use your Vis to connect to the Ara. Agaenos grew slightly uneasy upon hearing a consequence of over-drawing Vis. Nonetheless, he shook away the worry, and let the words sink in, and in time, he understood it, and nodded at his teacher. Kales resumed.

"This connection, or Channel, will lead to the connection to our plane which is the Elemental Plane. We draw upon its energies to then shape the energies which are spells. This part was slightly more complicated for Agaenos, as it took slightly more time to sink in. He created a mental picture to help himself understand it - he imaged himself drawing upon the energies, then shaping it, and casting a spell - he saw, in his mind, a bolt of electrical energy flying out of his hand - though, in a moment, it snapped to an Orc charging upon him as he was attempting to shape the energy. He shook away the thought. Kales was right - it might just take too long for him to cast a spell in battle, at this moment. Thankfully, he did say the casting time will decrease.

A crazy image entered his mind - he imagined himself as an Archmage Elementalist, with fireballs streaming from his hand as if vollies of arrows had turned into fireballs and were being fired out of his palm. "Bah! What on Telath... I'd better drift back to the lesson..."

"Does this make sense to ye? I know it's hard at first..."

"Yes - I got the idea. In short - Vis is within us, Ara is outside us. We connect Vis and Ara to connect our plane with the Elemental Plane, and draw its energies, and shape it - that is a spell."

Agaenos' teacher held out green bulb-like glass container, and handed it to him. On one side, it had a special cork inserted. The liquid within is gren. His immediate connection to the liquid was acid. And he was right.

"Because of your active role in the military, the officials wish to bless you with this item. In that orb, you will see a clear greenish solution. It is a very high grade acid, it can dissolve steel and flesh quite easily. Throw it at the enemy you desire or thing, and it will burst upon in and in seconds do its deed."

The Private had never gained such favour from any officials, and he was extremely glad. The military, at any rate, is thinking favourably upon him, and he will keep it at that. Accepting the gift, he smiled gratefully. "If any time you see the officials, please thank them for me. This gift is magnificient..." He smiled and looked up.

[Spock]

Kales nodded as he heard Agaenos go over the particulars. Indeed it seemed he had an idea of it fairly well. Kales then motioned to observe him as he formulated the first example spell. Kales then was able to cause the earth to move and form into a spikes...sharp one at that. He grinned liking the spell very much "Elements we work with are that of Earth, water, Air, and fire. You will work with Earth on this spell. The Elementalist will call forth the essence of Earth and target the ground where the desired effect shall occur. From that position shall there arise long pikes of Earth. This mechanism proves effective in providing obstacles for enemies and, if timed properly, dealing considerable damage to an unsuspecting foe."

Kales then pointed "Now go through the steps of Vis and Ara i told you previously, and then do as I instructed focus on the area and minipulate the earth elements to form pikes of earth." Kales then observed and watched Agaenos carefully....

He watched carefully as Kales began his first spell, Earth Spike. It was an interesting spell, to say the least, as the very earth formed itself into sharp, protruding pikes. Getting poked by those seemed rather painful, and Kales seemed very satisfied with his own spell...

"Elements we work with are that of Earth, Water, Air, and Fire. You will work with Earth on this spell. The Elementalist will call forth the essence of Earth and target the ground where the desired effect shall occur. From that position shall there arise long pikes of Earth. This mechanism proves effective in providing obstacles for enemies and, if timed properly, dealing considerable damage to an unsuspecting foe."

He nodded emphatically at Kales' explanation of the spell, and he told him to cast the same spell on a designated area...

Smiling, he began. Breathing deeply in and out, he closed his eyes, and began to send his mind into a peaceful state. At first, for a very brief moment, he pictured a cloudless dawn, when the sky is still dark blue, the horizon on where the Suns rises of a lighter shade. At that time is where his 'hidden trait' appears, a sense of longing and peace would come to him. At length, he dispelled even that thought - his blank mind now seeping deeper and deeper into the meditative state of Clara...

It would take at least ten, if not, fifteen minutes for him to achieve such state, though Agaenos had no idea. Once in Clara, he would raise one hand in front of him, and slowly connecting the Ara around him to his Vis, as a plant would absorb the moisture around it. Once the connection is done, then he would focus upon the Elemental Planes... no, the Plane of Earth, slowly Channelling forth the power of the Essence Plane into his mind, storing them as Mana. Willing it to raise as sharp pikes of Earth Spikes, he channelled as much from the Plane of Earth without destabilizing his Vis - Ara connection, and attempted to alter the designated ground to produce sharp, protruding spikes in the Earth...

Earth - not his favourite Element, but nonetheless he liked it. After the spell is complete, he would see what sort of spikes he produced...

Agaeno felt himself brake out in a sweat as he concentrated hard to shape up the spell. It took of hours of direction from Kales and hard work, but like a quick thought it clicked. He felt some of his Vis drain, and made a solid connection with the Ara. He drew upon the plane of the elements more specifically the earth elements.

His focus was a bit shaky, but it was good enough as the ground slowly created an area of pike like objects form the ground. Kales went over to feel it, and nodded "not bad really come check it out your first spell sits here. So how do you feel ?"

[Agaenos Phidion]

As Agaenos worked the spell, he could feel sweat starting to run from his forehead. Hours passed, and admist that time Kales had to patiently direct him, as well as putting in great amounts of hard work. However, at last, he was enlightened; the thought clicked upon him, he felt some of his Vis drained, his connection with the Ara was solid, the channelling to the Plane of Earth was solid - pikes of Earth rose up from the ground.

Agaenos' focus was somewhat shaky, and although it was good enough, he bore that in mind, next time trying to stabilize his focus better.

At length, Kales told him to feel his spell, and asked how he felt.

"Well - very sweaty, and I felt... somewhat drained - must be my Vis. My focus also felt slightly shaky. Other than that, however, I'm fine and still alive." He grinned, and very gently, he felt his fingers on the spike, being careful not to crush his hands on the prickly points.

[Spock]

Kales nodded "Yes, your Vis drains as you use, but do not worry about it. Be sure you use your energies wisely. Also you know when your low when you begin to feel dry inside in one sense or you grow tired you will feel it."

Kales then motioned to watch soon his hands were coursing with fire. Kales then explained "Elementalists can envelop their hands in the aura of an element (such as a field of fire, a coat of ice, etc.) with no harm to the caster. This is particularly useful for hand-to-hand combat, or to deliver a single decisive blow. At higher proficiencies, the elemental aura has greater intensity and persists for greater duration. Now fill free to pick an element to surround your hand, and then go about casting your spell and lets see if you can indeed cast it."

Kales then stepped aside and observed to see how it would go...

[Agaenos Phidion]

Agaenos nodded as Kales explained that he would know when his Vis had been drained to a low level. Then, he listened intently upon the next spell, Elemental Grasp.

"Elementalists can envelop their hands in the aura of an element (such as a field of fire, a coat of ice, etc.) with no harm to the caster. This is particularly useful for hand-to-hand combat, or to deliver a single decisive blow. At higher proficiencies, the elemental aura has greater intensity and persists for greater duration. Now feel free to pick an element to surround your hand, and then go about casting your spell and lets see if you can indeed cast it."

Hopefully, he was still within the state of Clara. Achieving that, he would, once again, connect his Vis to the raw Ara outside, using that to channel the energy from the Plane of Air - his favourite element - and store the energy within his mind as Mana. Willing that energy to become a field of electric energy surround his hands, he would tentatively open his eyes and see the result once he had successfully completed the spell.

Kales watched Agaenos go about casting his spell, and of the most part it was successful. It was slow at first, but that was normal for initiates. Agaenos soon had a hand swarming with air or a field of electricity of a sort. Kales nodded "good job Agaenos now let us learn about meditation." Kales then dispelled the air elements and returned Agaenos's hand back to normal.

Kales then explained "ok there comes a time when you have to inter a state of meditation you do so in a sense when casting a spell, but it is used also when wanting to replenish your Vis. Take a seat and then clear mind of all obligations, and then begin to breathe in and out at a controlled pace focusing upon your Vis and patiently working as so it increases. Give it a try..."

[Agaenos Phidion]

Slowly, the spell took form. His hands were enveloped in a field of electricity, a result from the Element of Air. Knowing that his teacher was watchful and tentative, he tried his hardest not to let his spell fizzle. At length, Kales seemed satisfied by the result of Agaenos' work on Elemental Grasp.

"Good job Agaenos, now let us learn about Meditation."

Meditation, it seems, is not only for achieving Clara, but also to rejuvenate Vis. "Ok, there comes a time when you have to enter a state of meditation. You do so in a sense when casting a spell, but it is used also when wanting to replenish your Vis. Take a seat and then clear mind of all obligations, and then begin to breathe in and out at a controlled pace focusing upon your Vis and patiently working as so it increases. Give it a try..."

Sitting, he closed his eyes, and removed his mind of all extraneous, useless thoughts; even his own conscience would be shut out for the moment, as well as that inner voice in his mind which he had used many times to say curses and damnations to his foes. Breathing deeply, in and out, in a controlled rhythm, he focused upon his Vis, and willed it to increase. In and out his breath went, and his muscles relaxed even more. In and out, in and out, in and out - he would place his mind in such a tranquil state that he would be even more peaceful than in his sleep...

Hopefully, he would feel his Vis soon clamber up...

Agaenos was able after much time able to figure out his mediation ways. It seems everyone is a tad different, but Agaenos indeed felt his Vis grow, but it was very slow and little. However, Agaenos was able to to do it thats the main thing. Kales then explained "As you can see I am sure you felt something increase that wa s your vis. Do not become discouraged as you practice and increase in skill you will do it better in time and in greater amounts."

Kales then noted the time "its late so get some food and sleep. Of course meditate as well, and meet me back here in the morning." Kales then nodded and made way back to Abestat....
