[Crown Tavern] Whisperings in a Quiet Corner (Dartalion and Eyvind)
A late evening in Early Immanis in the Season of Spring, Era II of the Celestine Mandate, Era XIV Post Fractum, the Second Era of the Regency of Milo L'Evienne.
Janis entered the crown as he did so many nights after a hard days work. The crown had existed as his goal on many a day. Something to look foward to. The waitresses were something to look at, the drink could ease the mind and more often then not the company was satisfactory.
Janis always nuzzled himself into a booth with his first pitcher of ale hoping a partner to converse with would come his way. Tonight, however, many of the booths were taken relegating Janis to a rather distant corner of the tavern away from a lot of the hubbub. Janis was feeling a bit gloom about the choice but he was a bit tired. Maybe he would just take the seat for a while and some good company would find him. The first sip of his ale was foamy, as always, and Janis laid his head against the back of his seat letting the stress of the past day run out of his mind. The crown had many things to offer and who know what was on the menu tonight.

Leaning against the counter with his arm left arm holding his weight Eyvind drank from his tankard. Sweet fresh ale going down his throat. He was tired of a hard Brightening of work in the city gates. Helping those poor militia men in checking everyone out was tiring and not pleasent. Some merchants didn't like to have their wagons checked nor did they like to answer questions. Tension could be felt sometimes just because he, a Legionnaire, an Imperial Soldier, was nearby. Some people disliked him and the ones like him and Eyvind couldn't blame them. He was a symbol of the Empire's power. He was a symbol of what kept so many thousands of citizens as members of the Empire. Shaking his head Eyvind took another sip in his ale.
What he wanted was to find someone useful, someone who could help him out when the time came. He didn't know when, but something big would happen and he didn't want to be off guard and unprepared. He needed trusted men to have on his side when he had to fight the same Empire who had humiliated his race long ago. His Vagaran pride ordered him to get the revenge his people deserved. But everything would go smothly and slowly. Revenge was something to be done when the target least expected. It was a cold dish.
Looking around the room he saw a man sitting in a dark corner. Where to start but with these lonely individuals? Many possessed wide knowledge of what was going on on the people's mind.
"Would you mind to have some company this Darkening?"
The Vagaran asked after walking to the man's table.

Sure enough, like clockwork, Janis heard the voice of a man asking for his company. Janis was delighted that not even his dark corner could ward off meeting new people. Opening his eyes and seeing Eyvind standing there Janis was quick to offer him a seat as a friendly smile grew on his lips.
"Ah yes, actually I would much appreciate some company this darkening. The name is Windrough, Janis Windrough and its a pleasure to meet ya."
Janis stood up and offered his hand to the man and motioned for him to take a seat in the booth as he wished. "So sir, what do you call yourself these days?"

Dartalion casuly strolled into crown never mind that the last time he was here he nearly got shiped off to war or worse yet hung. He had a feeling that Jorel wanted him here. That something was about to happen. he would find out soon enough. Dartalion saw a couple of men off in a corner. haveing a chat. something peaked his intrest so he wanderd over and asked the sever for a bottle of tequlia. "Searel and good darking gentlemen. The Vagaran grinned. This man was smart and he surely knew how the world worked. Asking one what name he used and not the true name was a proof. Shaking the man's hand Eyvind smiled and answered.
"The name is Eyvind "Redbeard" Avornmagor."
As Eyvind finished introduting himself a Dracon showed up. It seemed they were in for one wild Darkening. Looking closely to the crimson red scaled Dracon who said to be called Dartalion Blackwing, the Vagaran nodded.
"As I was saying to our friend here, my name is Eyvind "Redbeard" Avornmagor. What do you gentlemen think of taking a sit and discuss the future? Maybe we could share informations, who knows?"
Eyvind sat in a chair and took a sip in his ale.

"Pleasure to meet you Eyvind" were the first words out of Janis's mouth, however almost as soon as he said them a new arrival came to the table. A Dracon. Well Janis didn't have any ill will towards Dracons but he knew some did. Granted Janis hadn't really affiliated with many Dracons in his time but none had ever given him a reason to ever tink anything less of them. OR any other race for that matter. He introduced himself as Dartalion and Eyvind introduced himself so Janis figured he would follow suit. When he said company was going to find him tonight he didn't expect it to happen this fast.
"Good evening Dartalion, nice to meet you I am Janis Windrough, please have a seat." With introductions now complete, it seemed conversation was destined to soon follow. Janis sipped on his tankard and listened to Eyvind take the lead in the conversation. Exchanging ideas...that sounded intriguing. I mean, was there much else to discuss? "What ideas do you have Eyvind, I'm always good for a nice conversation or two. Have ya' got a lot to say about the future or something?"

The red haired Vagaran grinned as he heard Janis question and Dartalion's comment. The man was smart and knew how to make question and the Dracon could be interested in more than what he seemed to be on the surface. Of course Eyvind had something to say about the future, he had lots of things to tell, but he wouldn't share it with people he didn't trust and didn't know. First he would have to know this people, understand what they wanted and what their means would be to achieve their goals. That would inform him if he could tell them more about what could happen in the future.
"I may have something to tell about the future gentlemen, but to prevail in the future one needs to know about the past. Tell me about yours and I will tell you mine, then we may discuss the future."

Dartalion nodded and decidied to go first. "My past is a sad one to say the least." Dartalion said as he took a drink. "well my real mother died before i even got to know her. then my dad remaried and then i had to half bothers shortly after. one of which is dead now..." Dartalion began "But I am geting ahead of my self." He said clearing his throght. "Shortly after we moved to prime my family was atacked. My father and step mother were killed by the dracon hateing slime. Then my bothers and i had a terible argument. That was the last time I ever saw Darkcron alive." Dartalion stated not knowing wether to be sad or mad. at that point. "Once i heard of Darkcrons death I went to his funeral. and met my other half brother Feniox for the first time in nearly 5 years. I was then a member of the Ravens wing for a while under Vincent Stefan." Dartlion paused a moment to take another swig of wisky. "Untill the blasted empire came around and hauled him and most of the men working under him off to jail for suposed milatary disertion." Dartalion said. Then I came back to prime incase they tried to arrest me as well. though I nearly did get arrested for a bar brawl that someone else started. and almost got shiped off to war.

Janis listened to the Dracon's story and sure enough the points he had been going over earlier about the hatred of the Dracons proved true. "I'm am sorry to hear about your family Dartalion. That just ain't right." Janis listened a bit more and heard the name Vincent Stefan mentioned. "Ah Vincent Stefan, I have heard that name before. Never met the man himself, but i know he helped found a group. The Hoplites if Abestat, or Aelyria if you will. I used to be a member myself but that group is long since gone."
Janis figured it was his turn to pick up the chatter and continued. "Me, well, I grew up 'ere in Prime. Raised by my uncle. After he died, I made it a point to get outta here. Been around the empire since then. Faught in a war, met some people, done some things. Landed back 'ere in Prime for the winter and now I'm just lingerin' around. Stayin strong. Soon I'm goin North to Teersfall though. Continue my training as a Druid." So that was what Janis had to offer. Those were the important things. No need to bore with details. The attention was now on Eyvind to tell his story.

Eyvind nodded at the end of both stories.
"It is sad to know that racism still prevails in the world. No one should be mistreated for how they look at birth."
The Vagaran paused. He cleared his throat.
"Now my story. I come from a small coastal village in the Carmelyan Province. It is probably the closest village to Trident Isle in the mainland. I was raised there as hunter. Unfortunately my father was forced to join the Legions, we had no knews from him ever since. Eras later when I became a man I came south to try and find him. To make my task easier I enlisted myself. I ended up finding his grave in the Marble Hills Cemetery. Anyway, my life has been that of a Legionnaire ever since." he paused "Something I won't ever forgive the Empire is that it forced my father to join the Legions so they would protect our village and that he ended up dieing while the village wasn't protected. I remember well the Brightening before my departure. When the pirates attacked my village. I remember how I managed to gather a handful of militia men and fought the pirates back. That was when I realized something had to be done, something had to change. And it will." he laughed a bit.

Well it wasn't that Janis had the happiest story in the world. He too had lost his parents and had to be raised by his Uncle, however the tone of both his drinking mates tonight was staggeringly different then his own. Both had a spite and revenge on their breath and were likely drunk with it more then whatever beverage they were consuming that night. He was intrigued by Eyvind's story however. He had issues with the empire and yet joined it's legions? Something did not add up.
"Eyvind, that is yet another unfortunate story. I toast in remembrance of both your losses." And with that Janis lifed his drink and took a sip. "But tell me Eyvind, if ya' don't forgive the empire, why do you wear the armor your father was forced to wear? It must be an insult for you to even see a legionarre let along be one." Janis made a calculated decision to more orless ignore the statement of rebellion at the end of Eyvind's story but he surely would remember it was there. This could be interesting. What exactly was the Eyvind planning? Did Janis even want to know? Well, he was gunna find out, that was for sure.

The red haired Vagaran lifted his tankard and took a sip as well. As toast to the fallen was always welcomed by Eyvind.
"I don't consider the Legionnaires' responsible for what happened. Who leads them is, and the Government is what leads them. The Legions are but tools of always power hungry Government."
He paused for a moment to have another sip of his ale.
"And I wear this armor for higher purposes, my friend. You see, to change things one must sacrifice something. Victory is impossible without sacrifice. Everyone knows that. By wearing this armor I can rise and have the needed influence to change things for good. And it isn't a bad armor is it?"
The Vagaran grinned and laughed a bit.
"Returning to the topic. The Government starves for power, the Emperor starved for power. And they use all the means at their diposal to achieve it. Even if that means forcing men to betray their own kind. I won't allow another Battle of Blood."
He said shaking his head.

Dartalion as well took a drink in memory of what he had lost. Dartalion listend to the others storys. when Eyvind talked of sacrfices haveing to be made Dartalion knew all to well and uncoucsly rubed the burned area were the mark of Jorel was now permantly burned into to his chest.
But his sacrafice didn't botther him not in least he had what he wanted power.... "Indeed the things one does for power some would sacrifice their own brother for it." Dartalion paused a moment. "That is one thing i would never sacrifce. I lost one brother, I will not loose the other." Dartalion parctily growled out the last sentace. "My friends and my family are the most important things." espicaly since I do not have much of either.

Well, this conversation was turning into territory Janis was admittadly unfamiliar with. He never paid much attention to politics. He was never really around one place long enough to find out. Sure the ocassional Herald article would catch his attention but rarely did Janis care enough to take much of a stance on anything and here were these two, especially the fellow human using some pretty heavy language.
"Well, you two can certainly hold a grudge...." That was supposed to be comical. It was instinctive of Janis to try and lighten the mood. Even when it may not be the most proper course of action. "Anyway...I understand your motive, sorta, but the Legion is a big fish and the government is even bigger. Where the hell ya' gunna find a pan big enough to fry one of them let alone both? I admite ya' zest there Eyvind but be careful not to think too big..." He took a sip after he said that with a look that said "slow down and watch yourself" which he transferred to the Dracon as well. Its not as if Janis had any opinion on what they were saying. People could talk all they wanted for what he cared but these two didn't need to go around getting themselves killed over it.
