Skill Name
Farming/Agriculture
Short Description
Farming refers to the production of food and goods through farming. Farming was the key development that led to the rise of civilization, with the husbandry of domesticated animals and plants (i.e. crops) creating food surpluses that enabled the development of more densely populated and stratified societies.
Background
Since its development agriculture has expanded vastly in geographical coverage and yields. Throughout this expansion, new technologies and new crops were integrated. Agricultural practices such as irrigation, crop rotation, fertilizers, and pesticides were developed long ago, but have made great strides in the past century. The history of agriculture has played a major role in Aelyrian history, as agricultural progress has been a crucial factor in worldwide socio-economic change. Wealth-concentration and militaristic specializations rarely seen in hunter-gatherer cultures are commonplace in societies which practice agriculture. So, too, are arts such as epic literature and monumental architecture, as well as codified legal systems. When farmers became capable of producing food beyond the needs of their own families, others in their society were freed to devote themselves to projects other than food acquisition.

Unskilled: Even farming can be done by the unskilled. Some of the time it is a kid working with his family to bring in the bread or as punishment for doing something bad.
Techniques Learned:
* Types of Animals
* Types of Tools
Novice: The Farmer is beginning to learn how to use tools for the job and know basic breeds of animals like Pecoris and Horses. He is also learning the terminology of certain animals.
The Farmer should now be able to do most things around the farm with some skill but still cannot be trusted to do the harder stuff. The Novice Farmer is better off planting a garden than living on a farm but can still live on a farm with a lot of help.
Techniques Learned
*
Habitat Manipulation: The novice farmer knows the principles of creating a good environment for their stock and will have a good supply of water, feed and shelter.
*
Breeds: The Novice Farmer learns about breeds of animals such as Pecoris and Horses.
*
Husbandry: Although she may try to help during the birthing seasons and knows how to plant and raise seeds, the Novice farmer largely relies on nature for their production and raising of stock.
*
Stock Management: The novice farmer uses fencing to pen his stock and can identify a weed or other unwanted organism.
* Market: The novice farmer follows the market and because he has little influence larger takes whatever the buyers are offering. His harvest is not selective and so his offering is of mixed quality
Apprentice: The Farmer is now a good enough farmer to own and run a small plot of land by himself. The Apprentice Farmer will now start studying the anatomy of Pecoris or Horses for us on the farm.
The Apprentice Farmer is able to lead a group of 2-3 helpers on a farm from 50 acres to 75 acres and 4-5 helpers for 50-100 Acres. The Apprentice Farmer also learns how to construct basic fences such as the Holed Fence or the Timber Fence.
Techniques Learned
* Advanced Habitat Manipulation: The apprentice farmer knows how to improve an environment for the better of his crops but cannot make a plants grow in the desert or plants to grow in the arctic. They can still bring water to their crops by irrigation or other means.
* Advanced Husbandry: The apprentice farmer can now help birth animals or increase the yield of their crops. She can does not need to rely on nature as much as she used to but she can't do everything.
* Advanced Stock Management: The apprentice farm can now construct fences that help keep out predators above ground that walk on four legs such as Pecoris or goats who like to eat anything that is edible.
* Advanced Market: The apprentice novice can now make deals and sell his crop at a higher price but must still pretty much follow the market. Their dealing skills are not as good as lets say a Journeyman or a grandmaster but they can increase the amount of money he makes from selling his crops.
Crop Farmer
* I: The Master Farmer learns how to tell the difference between thunder clouds and rain clouds and when to put his animals up for their safety.
* I Plant Lore: The Master Farmer learns the history of each type of plant and their uses.
* I Plant Anatomy: The Master Farmer learns more about the anatomy of Plants.
* I Sowing: The Master Farmer learns how to best plant his seeds to increase the plant growth and survivability.
* I Reaping: The Master Farmer Learns how to Reap his Crop to increase the profit and decrease the chance of damaging the crop when they do so.
Journeyman: The Journeyman Farmer probably owns his/her own farm by now and if not he/she should be expected to get one before they can continue their training. They can now effectively run at least a 100 acre farm with only a few helpers. From hereon out all sub skills will come from the farmer's selected field.
Once the the Journeyman Farmer gets along with his training he will need to start specializing in a specific area such as Cattle Rancher, Horse Breeder, Chicken Farmer, Goat Farmer, and the Jack-of-all-Farmers.
Techniques Learned:
Habitat Manipulation - The Farmer uses his skills and tools to choose and create ideal habitat for his stock, irrigation to put water where it is required and fences, windbreaks and heat sinks to create ideal micro climates. He manages the soil so that in is of ideal fertility and crumb for his needs
Husbandry - The Farmer knows how to take the best source stock and breed it to return best yields He can choose a specialty (Crops, Trees, Cattle, Swine, Horse etc) and start to selective breed to produce ideal strains
* Specialization starts here
Stock Management - The Farmer is able to control and direct his stock effectively, maintaining them in best health and placement.
Market - The Farmer knows how and when to harvest to ensure quality of his offering. He is able to negotiate good deals at the market, pushing always to get best price and terms for his stock
Crop Farmer
* II Meteorology: The Master Farmer learns how to tell the difference between thunder clouds and rain clouds and when to put his animals up for their safety.
* II Plant Lore: The Master Farmer learns the history of each type of plant and their uses.
* II Reaping: The Master Farmer Learns how to Reap his Crop to increase the profit and decrease the chance of damaging the crop when they do so.
Master: Once the Journeyman Farmer picks his specialty he will become a Master Farmer and learn what is needed for his Area of Expertise be it Cattle Rancher, Horse Breeder, Goat Farmer, Chicken Farmer, Pig Farmer, or Crop raiser.
A farmer can raise stuff other than his specialty but he will know more about his specialty area thus increasing the chance for survivability.
Techniques Learned:
Husbandry - The Master Farmer can raise any plant except the extremely rare ones. They can double production from parent stock to produce incredible yields
Market - The master Farmer effectively controls most markets they enter, They still follow the grandmaster but if there is no Grandmaster Farmer the Master effectively controls the entire market with his goods. Even if a grandmaster is Present the Master farmer's profit is exponentially larger than when he was a Journeyman Farmer.

He is the best of the best of farmers. His crops seem to never die from disease and his animals seem to never die from pregnancy and disease. People come to him for advice on their crop and their animals.
