Annael Took the Crystal with, just for the briefest of moments, a break in the 'all business' deminor, to case a smile. *Always full of tricks, these two.* He thought to himself and nodded in thanks, tucking it securly away where there was no chance it would fall outof his jacket.

Before Annael had the chance to find out anything useful about anything, the voice came from the other side of the door. He had not expected them to be talking in a common tounge, but he raised a hand to his lips as if to 'sssssshhhh', but made no actual noise.

He followed Three's instructions as silently as he could manage, taking his bow from his back as he did and, if he had gotten as far as getting them out, tucking his note pad away securely again, just in case, being carful not to knock anything with it as he did. It seems that the creature was going to leave to 'go get' it's master. This would mean they had that much time to get out and find somewhere else to hide.

Annael would wait and follow the lead of Three if necesarry, but for the time being, he would simply try to be as quiet as he could and listen to anything he could hear that the others might not.

Three looked at the others, as they all waited in silence, backs up against the door.

Boooom! Booom!!

The door shook.

"Stupid Door!" the Saurid mumbled.

Boooom!! Boooom!

The door shook some more.

"Come on dumb door!"
the creature complained. Then suddenly a hand, a lizard man hand, came through the crack in the door. Then another. Three looked to each of them now. She motioned for them to move away from the door. Once they had done so, the woman moved just to the side of the archway.

Creeaaakkk!!!

The door began to moved, but it was still pretty jammed.

Crrreaaaakkk!!!

It opened some more. Now there was a gap about a foot wide. Three tensed, and reached down to her sides.

Creaaaakkk!!

Swiiishhh!

Poonkt!! Pooonkt!!!

It happend so quickly, it was over before it even registered in their minds. The Saurid fell down with a slight thump, Three standing over him for a second. The assassin had gone through the larger gap in the doorway, and stabbed the lizard man in the heart and in the throat simultaneously. With no ability to scream, the creature fell to the floor, the chest strike killing him before he struck the ground.

Turning to the group in the storage room, Three wiped the blood off her blades, and motioned for Klue, Hay'aan, and Annael to come out. She pointed to the key around the Saurid's neck.

"Get the body in the room."
she said in a harsh whisper. Three then began to head down the narrow hallway she had just entered...

It looked as if the saurid would try and answer the nagging question: Could the door, once ajar, be forced open? More cursing out in the corridor. More kicking, rattling and Klue moved further away from the door and pressed himself against the wall. Creak, swish...poonkt?, and then it was over.

Seeing that Three had slipped through the wider gap in the door, the gadgeteer leaned forward and spied the assassin standing over what seemed obviously dead saurid. Klue had no qualms about the saurid's necessary end. It was necessary and had he been put in the position he'd have done it himself. It was only the swift, silent efficiency of Three's actions that impressed...in a morbid sort of way.

But there was no time to analyze or think twice. They'd move, or Three's efforts would have gone to waste. With a quick glance at Hay'aan and Annael, Klue rose and helped to drag the body into the room. Into the darkest, most concealed corner, he suggested, to delay the body being easily seen by passersby in the corridor.

He took the key from around the saurid's neck, stuffed it in his bag with the rest of his tools, and collected the weapons that he'd discarded earlier. Then with an encouraging glance at Hay'aan, he silently slipped through the door and followed Three down the corridor.

As the person the other side of the door started to try and force their way through, Hay’aan felt her anxiety rise at the thought of whether whoever it was might be able to get through the gap and force the door open. She turned her attention to her husband, and was pleased as he moved further away from the door. But still, she understood the expression of her heart being in her throat.

And then, it became obvious why Trin was with them. More than that, the cold and callous nature of it chilled Hay’aan to the bone. But, she would be an utter hypocrite if she did anything other than step forward and help, for after all, her hands were not free of the blood from necessary kills. It did not do to be off put by efficiency, and she’d known what they were getting into when they got into it. So, she put that thought to one side and she simply moved.

As soon as it was done, and what turned out to be a Saurid was in the room, she moved quickly and helped Klue to carry the dead Saurid to the darkest and most difficult to spot corner. She also took the brief moment to check the Saurids body – not for the key, for Klue would take that, but for anything else which might seem as though it could be useful. If she found anything, she would show it to Klue before moving. She put one of the polyhedrons in her satchel, in case it was needed and she spared a glance to the Saurid, before standing up, straightening her back and moving out.

Unless there was anything obvious, she would not spend any more time than necessary but would just glance down at the floor to make sure that drag marks or blood stains were not giving away more than they should. When that was done, she would step out, quietly and carefully, stepping through the door behind her husband and following Trin down the corridor with care to be as silent as possible. All the time she was looking about, checking, and trying to make sure that she looked in the places where people usually didn’t.

And that was it... The Saurid had been dispatched at the expert hands of the assassin Three and the chances that they were going to remain unseen for long vanishing. Annael was not accustomed to such techniques, but had no issues with what must be done... better them then us. It was a shame to have been found so soon as this food closet was now going to hold a dead body for any Hungry Xet to stumble across. Just how long it would be before that happened, who knew. It seemed to Annael that it would have been better to have performed 'the deed' inside the room itself to avoid creating a mess in the hallway, but it was all too late for that now.

While his companions pulled the Saurid into the room and hid it if possable (unless they needed his help doing this), he would concentrate on obscuring any evidence of what had occured from the entrance in the haalway. His experience in tracking need not even really be applied here, in that it was a simple matter of trying to clear any blood as much as he could from view. He knew it was never going to eb 'clean', but perhaps just not a 'pool' would suffice.

If the Saurid had any clothing at all, he would cut or tare a rag of cloth from it to use to mop any blood, otherwise he would simply rip the sleave from his shirt and use that, doing his best to avoid stepping in the blood and creating a trail as he walked.

Once they were finished clearing the scene, Annael would follow the others into the hallway as quietly as he could. All the time he listened for any signs of further activity. He had missed the sound the Saurid had made outside the door, preventing him from giving any forewarning and he did not plan for this to be the case again. He followed Three, looking above, below and anywhere else he needed to.

Klue and Hay'aan dragged the saurid into the room. It was a very tight squeeze, the beast being a fair bit larger then an average man. Still, his limp, dead body meant no restrain or worry about breaking bones or otherwise, and so with a big shove, the body went through, and they finished dragging it into the dark far end of the storage room.

Click click click!!

While the Malinconico's finished the move, Annael, who was trying to mop up what little blood was on the floor, noticed a small rectangular item hit the floor. It had come off the lizard man when they pushed him through the door. It was black, with metallic claws along the edges, which now had blood on them.

"Come on."
Three whispered with irritation as she stopped. Now the group was able to pay a little attention to where they were. There was a hallway that led both to left of the door, and to the right, which is where Three had gone. The walls themselves were a horrid hybrid of metal, and slimy wood. It almost felt like the corridor was organic...alive.

Eventually the trio made it up to where the assassin crouched, still waiting impatiently. There was nothing of note to find on the Saurid, besides what was already found and taken. Annael, his "senses" spell still in play, could hear a growing mechanical sound as they approached Number Three. Once all of them were together, the assassin moved on once more. The hall continued for another twenty yards, no doors or otherwise, until it came to a bend. Three motioned for the others to stop, while she peered around it. She then looked back, and motioned for the trio to follow her once more.

Around the corner was another passage but just as they entered it, they could see a simple hinged door, and next to it, a door that parted in the middle (it was now closed) and to its side a panel, two lit pieces upon it, and once more a octagonal hole in the center.

This one did not have a glass panel over it.

Three moved passed the door, then passed the paneled door, and went another twenty yards until she came to a "T" where this corridor intersected with another. She looked up one end, then down the other, before returning.

"It is clear." She said. The question was, where to now? Through the hinged door? Try to open the door with the panel, or proceed back up to the T intersect, and move on from there.

Time was of the essence. Decisions had to be made quickly...

oocKlue/Hay'aan, hope you don't mind me posting first. :-) Wanted to take the chance to give you the clawed 'thing'

Annael picked up the curious clawed object and once Hay'aan and Klue appeared from the room again, after stowing the Saurid away, would hold it up for Klue and/or Hay'aan to see (and take if they wished) without saying anything but simply shrugging as if to suggest Annael had little clue what it was. It might be a key of some kind, but anything of that sort was, in Annael's opinion, best to be in the hands of their far more eminently skilled Gadgeteer or even sketched by Hay'aan, whichever they decided was best.

He made his way as quietly as he could down the corridor, drawing his bow as they went, just in case they ran into anything unpleasant. He noted the growing mechanical noise to himself and without a possible source to point out, merely kept his attention open to all possibilities as they moved forward.

Annael was of the opinion that as they neither had a map or any idea what they were really looking for, that no door could be simply passed without at least some investigation and to this end he held his finger to his lips with his bow hand (being sure it tucked up so not to hit the wall, floor or door as he did and attract any unwanted attention), then tapped his ear twice with one finger and then pointed at the first hinged door with that same finger.

At that, he would cover one ear and put the other against the door, cupping his free hand as best he could to help, between his ear and the door. What he was looking for was whether he could tell if there was sound coming from the other side of said door and, if possible of course, what that sound might be. As little as 'people' or 'machinery' might be all he needed to tell if the door could be opened without walking into a dining hall full of hungry Xet, but he would do his best in the few moments they had to discern if it might be 'safe' to open the door.

Whatever he heard, he would do the same as quickly as he was able to, without rushing the process, to the second door split up the middle so that he could suggest to the group which, if not both, might be best/safe to go into first. The less time they spent in the hallway the better and there could be anything behind these doors from more food to the Xet HQ.

Before they traveled any further along the corridor, in Three's wake, Klue paused to take and examine the strange metallic object that Annael had found. At a quick glance, all they could safely spare when they were so exposed, the gadgeteer could begin to guess what it was. But aware that it might prove useful sooner or later, that they might need it, he noted its appearance and feel, then passed it to Hay'aan to examine, before heading off down the corridor.

He moved quietly, quickly, close to the wall and sparing a glance behind them now and then. To check on Hay'aan and Annael, but also to make sure they weren't in immediate danger of being discovered by someone else coming up behind them. He carried his firearm in one hand, loaded and primed to shoot if necessary. A deadly accurate weapon with more than enough force and impressive range; all the better that, firing it was much quieter business than even the smallest of black powder weapons. Little more than a metallic whooshing sound and the muted pinging sound of a spring coming suddenly unsprung and meeting its end. It was a sound that was remarkably similar to a crossbow being fired. He'd rather they weren't discovered in the corridor or anywhere else, and he preferred not to need the weapon at all.

He'd had the impression, at least until Three returned from looking both ways down intersecting hallways, that the assassin had been operating on at least a vague idea of where exactly they were needed to go. Maybe not, Klue thought now and considered their options. Two doors, one hinged, one similar to the one that had given them trouble before. To him, it seemed counter to their reasons for being here, to pass these doors by without having a look. So pressed to the wall, he simply nodded silently to Annael, when the elf seemed to come to the same conclusion. But better to employ the elf's superior sense of hearing, first, before charging into the unknown. Meanwhile, he kept watch both ways down the corridor.

While he waited, Klue dipped into his leather sack and retrieved a small mirror on its folded, collapsible handle. And if Annael indicated that he believed it was safe to open the hinged door, without stepping away from the wall, Klue would reach aside and try whatever passed for a knob, handle or latch, then gently, slowly push the door open. Unless it was locked, of course. Then without stepping away from the wall, he'd used the unfolded mirror, angled round the corner to have a first look, just to make sure there wasn't a Xet or someone, something else just waiting to pounce on the first living soul that planted themselves in the threshold.

He intended to explore the second set of doors as well, and whatever was behind them. For those he'd need a key. Presumably, the one he'd taken from the saurid and dropped in his sack. But first, the hinged door, unless Annael stumbled upon some reason not to.

Taking the object from Klue, she glanced at it and frowned. It was a strange thing, that was for sure. She was about to add a quick sketch of it to the bottom of the parchment for this room, but as Annael cleaned up a thought struck her. If it had blood on it, maybe it had been attached to him, she figured, and she very quickly examined him to see if there were marks on the Saurid's skin to match the claws. Looking at the flesh on the back of his neck, his back and so on, she wanted to make sure that she had looked at every bit she could in the time that she had.

Then, stashing the rectangle- thing, she made her way. Her projectile weapon was not in her hands, for she was quickly, quietly and efficiently sketching as she walked. She kept a careful, although rather basic map but she also wanted to make sure that she captured everything, so as they stood still, she added a quick sketch of the rectangle on the bottom of the parchment for Room 1. You just never knew what it might come in handy, after all. So she sketched and she watched, carefully.

Hay'aan did not think, not even for one moment, than Trin had any idea of the layout of this place. She was too nervy, to highly strung for that to be the case. If she had any idea of it, she'd be more vocal about where she was taking them. And since the clue was in the name of *recon* team, Hay'aan assumed that they'd be opening every door and checking every room. So when Annael suggested, without speaking, that he should listen in to the first door, she nodded her head. Whilst he did that, she sketched the corridor in order to get a feel for the way it was. She glanced at Klue as he got his mirror and she smiled, despite their surroundings. He'd never be caught without a mirror again, of that she was sure.

So, she stayed back, she sketched and she watched to see what was happening. Where she could, she kept an eye and she did what she felt she was here to do - she kept records. Careful, meticulous and as detailed as she could make them, records. As Klue stepped forwards to try the handle, should Annael not have given him reason not to, Hay'aan felt herself hold her breath, gave a silent prayer to Kaimelea to protect him and watched to see what, if anything, would happen here.

ooc obviously, the drawings she's done, especially of the corridor are the closest to my own interpretation of what's written. Not wanting to suggest different, and Shal, always open to change them if it's a) in my skill set or b) necessary.... but they're just to give a flavour of what she's doing

The foursome had made it to the two doors, and Number Three had scouted beyond, and returned with the "All Clear". On route to their present position, the group had hidden the corpse. Examination of the item that had fallen off the Saurid (which from Hay'aan's more thorough check of the corpse had come from a space on his neck, just below his occiput) revealed it to have tiny metallic claws, and the black rectangle that made up the bulk of it, seemed if anything...plain and nondescript...

Annael was the first to move. He got himself quietly up against the hinged door, pressing one of his ears to his cupped hand upon it.

Nothing. Nothing but the ever present faint noise of machinery...although it seemed a little more "echo" like through the door. While Hay'aan sketched, and Three impatiently waited, Klue took out his mirror, and once told by Annael that he heard nothing of note, proceeded to try to open the door.

Not a problem. There was a metal bar that acted as a door handle, and pushing it allowed the door to open inward, away from their corridor, without any resistance. The gadgeteer then used his handled mirror to peer around the door, into what was beyond, as Number Three stood close by, her daggers both drawn once more...

A stairwell. In his mirror Klue could make out the faint outline of poorly lit stairs going up from where they were.

Annael had since then now moved on to the second door. This one, split down the middle, was smooth and made of similar material to the one to the storage room.

Creaaak! Barrrooomm! Creeaaak!!

The sounds were mechanical, intermittent, and irregular. They seemed somewhat distant.

"Click Snap Click Snap Click Snap"

Those sounds, the click snap, were heard only by Annael, and to him, they would have the distinct rhythm of footsteps...footsteps coming from the distant intersecting corridors where previously it was "Clear"...

As Annael gave Klue the 'Tumbs Up' with his free hand and moved to the next door to listen he felt the burning desire to learn and share some form of sign language with his companions should they make it out of here alive. In loe of this ability, he whispered to Klue for the time being. "Machinery." While pointing at the second door.

Then he heard the footsteps, distant and almost so quiet he had to concentrate to make them out. He immediately pointed down the corridor from where the sound originated and whispered. "Incoming." to Hay'aa, Klue and Three. Turning to face Three to ensure she had heard his warning if his body language did not suffice.

He turned back to Klue and Hay'aan. Annael had no idea how to open the second door and so he would defer to their judgement. He pointed one finger of each hand at each of the doors with his eyebrows raised and a quizzical look on his face. "Not long. Your choice." Came his final hurried whisper.

Annael would follow their lead completely and without hesitation. If Klue thought he could get the second door open in time, he would turn to cover the hallway, using his own body to provide cover for Klue as he worked and readying his bow in the direction of the footsteps just in case. Otherwise, he would simply follow them into the first door as quietly as he could, as he did not yet know what was in the first set of doors himself.

Relying on Three to keep an eye out for anyone, or thing, coming along the corridors, Klue concentrated on opening the hinged door and using his mirror to view what was behind it. A shadowy stairwell, and not much else. But it struck him that all he could see from his vantage was a flight of stairs going up, but not any going down. It was possible then, that they were currently in or at least very near the lowest levels, the belly of the Xetan craft. He quietly urged Hay'aan to have a look.

The stairs were an option, but the gadgeteer was already curious about the set of sliding doors. Machinery, Annael said and Klue dropped the magnet into this sack and traded it for the key that the saurid had dropped. He didn't have time to use it before their green haired friend added, Incoming, and Not long. He was inclined to put some faith in Annael's ears. The options were few, and they'd need to choose one quick.

For Klue, the choice was obvious. Whatever was coming, no matter how many, would at least pass through the intersection at the end of the corridor, if not turn their way. The four of them were exposed, and couldn't risk being discovered and having the alarm raised. And it would probably be better, no matter how good Three was at it, if they didn't leave a string of bodies behind them as they went.

There were too many maybes and what ifs where the sliding set of doors were concerned. What if it wasn't one key fits all, what if the doors made noise when they slid open, what if there was a giant Xet on the other side of them, waiting to pounce. There was no time for easy as she goes.

They could conceal themselves behind the closed, hinged door until the danger of being discovered had passed; and then they could explore the next set of doors. Or they could opt to head head quietly, cautiously up the stairs and see where they took them. He'd leave it to someone else to decide. But they couldn't stand around in the hallway leisurely exploring their options. With a quick touch to Hay'aan's shoulder, Klue pointed to the open door, urging her through it. The same message for Annael and Three, but delivered with a quick hand gesture. He would go last with his firearm in hand, and quietly shut the door behind him.

She had shown Klue, by virtue of pointing to the claws on the rectangle and then pointing to the place on the Saurid (or herself, if it was more appropriate) where the thing had connected. That might be a means of communication, it might be a means of control. But more importantly than that, it might be monitored

So this was important. Too important to let go. But she needed to pick her moment to point out this discovery, also. Trin was already moving and Hay'aan glanced at the leader of their group with a vaguely worried expression before turning back to Klue. Trin seemed, frankly, a bit hot headed for her liking, but then she did understand that maybe she was overly cautious.

When Klue urged her to look in his mirror, she frowned and concentrated. Pointing upwards, she nodded her head, then she pointed around at them all and then she laid her hands in front of herself, palms down and she pushed them gently down, towards the floor, just an inch, checking that she was thinking the same as him, they were on the bottom, most likely. She shrugged, slightly, but in truth that was no bad thing, because it was one less direction that crazed and ravenous Xet could come at them from.

She glanced at Annael, sharply, when she heard him say oh so very quietly 'incoming. Not long'. Nothing for it but to make a decision and quickly. There was, in her mind, only one decision to make. No point in going back to the room with the broken door and Hay'aan cursed to herself. They'd left the door half open. That was NOT sensible, because it could mean that the dead Saurid could be discovered. Frowning, as she realised that, she glanced back at the way they'd come. Her mind raced and she considered, just briefly, legging it back there. But she didn't of course. She felt Klue's hand on her shoulder and she glanced at him and nodded, making her way through and looking around carefully as soon as she had stepped through. She checked around, floors, walls, how far up the stairs went and so on. Anything that shouldn't be here, she wondered. Anything out of place. Also, she looked to see if there were any signs or symbols near the door. Might be worth to note, she figured. If there were, she'd sketch them down quickly.

Then, when they were all through (and assuming that they all did get through, of course) she stood next to Klue and drew their attention, if she could, to the map she had drawn. Pointing to the first room she pointed specifically to the door and then gestured gently, her hands closing together and she mouthed the words 'must close the door' as she made the hand gesture. Then, when she was sure that they'd understood, she showed Trin and Annael the rectangle with claws, before handing it to Klue with a raised, inquisitive eyebrow.

Turning Annael so that she could reach it easily, she pointing on him where the clawed thing had been and she felt, for the first time in a long time, deeply frustrated that none of the rest of them knew sign language. She had learnt it many eras ago on Demios, for a child in the orphanage that she ran who did not hear or speak. And she might as well point out that she knew Air'riela and they didn't she thought for all the good it was here. But there. Everyone knew and could now make the same suppositions that she had. After all, if that rectangle was a communication device, then they were in all sorts of grief.

Not wanting to, not for a moment, Hay'aan gestured one last time. This time, hand to her ear, cupping as though listening, then two fingers pointing downwards and scissoring in a 'walking' motion before pointing in the direction of the room they had come from. If the person walking came past them and went there, well, they were in all sorts of trouble. So, she finished the gesture with a simple one. She moved her pointed finger across her throat. And she hoped that they understood what on Telath she was talking about. Or not, as the case may be. She didn't like it and her shoulders lifted in a shrug which was coupled with a helpless expression, but if that Saurid body was discovered, then they'd be using their wrist-things far too quickly to be any use.

The hall remained clear, no visual sign of anything. Annael, however, had a head's up, thanks to his spell. When he informed the others of the approaching footsteps, they pondered for a moment. Klue then moved to the hinged door, and opening it again, motioned for all hands to go through. Annael and Hay'aan quickly obeyed, Three, however, was more reluctant. She looked at Klue, then motioned for him to go in. Once he had done so she followed. When all four were in, the assassin stood by the door, and held it open just a touch...enough to see what was in the hallway.

Click Snap Click Snap Click Snap!!

Now the noise could be faintly heard over the background noise of the ship. It was a fast serious of recurring sounds, like very rapid footsteps, but not overly heavy. Hay'aan, Klue, and the green haired elf stood at the bottom of the stairwell, in the near dark, trying to examine the map. In the stairwell, the sound of the machinery from the door adjacent to the one they went through, was louder, and getting louder.

"They are coming."
Three said, as she stood by the door, occasionally looking back at the group as they went over what to do next. She turned back to the door, the crack she had left in it. Two figures went by, as the "Click Snap" noise reached its highest volume. The doorway was too narrow for anyone but three to see through. After the two figures had gone by, she looked back to the threesome.

"Another saurid, and a creature that looks half man, half insect."
she said. Three had seen Hay'aan's suggestion, and knew they needed to eliminate the two before they discovered the ajar door and the dead creature inside. A moment passed, and then without warning, the assassin went out through the door, and began to follow the saurid and his insect-like companion.

Screeeccchh!!!

The sound of a mechanical brake being applied, loud and coming from just next to the stairwell.

Passwiishh!!!

The sound of a mechanical door opening.

Annael could hear the voices clearly, Klue and Hay'aan hearing only muffled noise. To the elf, they were spoken words in a foreign language, so alien in nature that not a single utterance was understood.

All three would know, however, that the voice had come out of the sliding door next to theirs, and were now headed down in the same direction Three, and the others, had gone...

Annael slipped quietly into the stairwell room/hallway with his companions. He left Hay'aan to address her map, a worthwhile endeavour for certain, but he was more concerned with the possibility that that approaching footsteps might enter behind them. He watched as Hay'aan spelt out her concerns, ones he shared to be fair. He nodded gravely, but it was always going to be a concern, having left the body there in the first place. He was not entirely certain killing every Saurid they came across in the area was any better an option, after all, he was not sure if Hay'aan or Klue had any hidden talent for killing silently, but Annael certainly did not and so any combat they got into would have equal chance of attracting further unwanted attention.

Annael prepared his bow, notching an arrow ready, but their fortune for now seemed to improve as the footsteps passed without turning in on their hiding place. Just as he was nodding to Hay'aan a little reluctantly, the assassin dashed out the door, apparently determined to kill every breathing creature in sight at the drop of a hat. Annael looked at the others in suprise, but decided, following now was more likely to cause Three more problems then service, as she clearly felt she was capable of taking out the two alone. Annael had not seen one of these insect-like Xet creatures before, but he hoped Three was not simply getting in above her head.

It was then that the breaking sound came, followed by the voices. Annael looked to Klue and Hay'aan, pressing his finger to his lips, perhaps unnecessarily and preparing for the voices to enter their stairwell, but they did not. His eyes widened. Just how many of these creatures could Three tackle? The fates had decided to test this for them. So much for reconosence then...

Looking to the other two, he pointed at the door with one finger, then drew that finger across his own throat and then gave a thumbs up as he moved toward the door. His face would clearly be that of a question, with raised eyebrows, but if they nodded, then he would assume they agreed to go out to help three should she need it. If they suggested that they should not, then he would wait and hope that Three could do her thing... whatever that was.

It was very possible that Three might by some miracle of assassin skill have killed the two, dragged them into the room with the other and managed to hide for these new ones to pass completely unawares... but not very likely.

He would listen and wait till the footsteps had passed completely (so the three of them did not open the door to find the creatures on top of them) and then open the door gently and peer outside to ensure they were not lieing in wait. He would not prevent Klue and Hay'aan from jumping out if they felt more eager to be closer up on the creatures, of course.

If he remembered correctly there was a corner to turn before they could reach the door to the room they had appeared in. Assuming all was a go, Annael would move out into the corridor with Klue and Hay'aan. He was uncertain what exactly they had planned, but he very much intended to get close and fill one of them with arrows from the benefit of close but just out of HTH striking range. He would step as lightly as they had all along in an attempt to preserve their element of surprise, and if the creatures had already passed around the corner he would move up and listen before turning around it blindly for sounds of alarm. He'd take in as much as he could of the targets before taking his aim... every shot would need to count.
