Appearance
At 6'7" and with a powerful frame Quentin looks more giant then human. His shoulders and chest are extremely developed, with small cuts and burned circles of flesh all over. His skin is tanned from a long journey to his new home, and his raven black hair is kept long and tied into a ponytail with a leather strap. His sharp jawline is usually kept clean and shaven, though a shadow of a beard usually reveals several days of hard work with no time for personal hygiene. He has two prominent scars, one just under his left ear that curves under his jaw for two inches, and another that starts in the middle of his right hand and runs up under his sleeve.
Quentin is usually seen wearing a white shirt, sleeves rolled up, under a plain leather vest, sturdy brown pants and cheap leather boots. His dagger is sheathed at his hip, within range of a quick pull with his arm. Rarely he will wear jewelry, something simple like a pendant or ring, but most often times his fingers and neck are bare, even less to get caught as he works at the forge. | | | | |

 | | | | History
Quentin is the 4th child of six, with four brothers and one sister, born to Johan and Isabella Valenshire of Blackwall village on the coast of the Sea of Diana. His father is a master smith who specializes in armor, like so many of his ancestors. The Valenshire name is famous in the area for their armors, and like his forefathers, Johan wanted to make sure the legacy was passed on.
His first two sons, Jonas and Miles, accepted, entering their apprenticeships at 16 like so many others. His third son Dimitry became a soldier, and was shipped off to Aelyria Prime. Quentin accepted the apprentice ship at his 16th birthday, and began training at his fathers forge.
The youngest son, Vladimir, was the source of the trouble. He began hanging out with what Johan considered a 'bad' crowd; young miscreants who dabbled in black magic and petty crimes. These crimes began to escalate, going from simple vandalism to theft and violence deep in the night. When confronted on it, the 15 year old Vladimir would shrug it off and claim it was none of his parents business who his freinds were.
It came to a head on the birthday of the youngest child, Natasha, who had just turned 13. The night before a murder had occurred, a traveling merchant staying in the local inn found that morning with his throat slit and money gone. Vladimir and his freinds were no where to be found, and many people suspected them of the crime.
He came home during the small dinner the family thrown for Natasha, drunk and aggresive. When confronted, he pulled a dagger and went for Johan, wounding him with a cut across the chest. Quentin was the closest and reacted next, hitting Vladimir hard enough to break his jaw and slam him against the wall. What happened next was something no one in the family had been expecting.
Vladimir had begun speaking in a foul and grating language, contorting his fingers and wrists in strange patterns. When he released the spell, it caught Quentin and Natasha. Quentin protected himself by raising his arm in time, but little Natasha wasn't so lucky, and was killed by the spell. Quentin lost control at the sight of his sisters body, and his next strike came with the full force of his fury.
Vladimir was sent through the window, and Quentin followed. Throwing off the restraining hands of his mother and two older brothers, he pummeled Vladimir, using his prodigious strength to take out every ounce of vengeance. Despite being thrown through a window and a broken jaw, Vladimir still fought, nearly slicing Quentin's throat with a dagger he pulled from no where.
His efforts were no comparison to Quentin's fury, and he finally succumbed. After the death of Natasha and the retributive killing of Vladimir, the family was in shock. Johan turned his back on Quentin for the killing of Vladimir, no matter what the son had done. Mourning over the loss of his sister and struggling with the anger at his father, Quentin forsook the history of his family and struck to make his own way in the world.
Several weeks later found him in the ruined city of Imperia, now free of the destructive fog. Any form of government was gone and only criminals and foolhardy adventurers found themselves picking through the ashes. Strangely the great library had survived the purge mostly intact with it's books. Although most were scattered as if a great wind had torn through he spent several weeks just picking them back up and placing them back on the shelves. There he had came across an extensive collection of books detailing the arcane and spent as much waking time as he could devouring all of the information. His desire to become an Elementalist, before just a passing fancy, burned with sudden intensity and gave him a new path on life. The despair, grief and rage that had accompanied him all these months finally waned in intensity and he could look forward.
It had taken him a while to identify a city that would be a good location to start his search for an instructor of the arcane. Frankly though all he wanted to do was get away from Imperia. While the library had been a good spot to get an initial education and add some books to his collections the city was simply too dangerous. There a throat would be slit just for a loaf of bread.
Several weeks later found him in Ziel Arca where he ran afoul....made acquaintances with the the Aedile of the city, Sliucha. She directed him to a mage who owed her several favors for unbinding into the Elemental sphere. Later she challenged him to craft an intimidating dagger for her to prove his skill with blacksmithing and furthermore prove he had the skills needed to survive in her employ.
