[AP] Bananarama Bonanza

TS: Spring, Era XXVI PF

Sima heard the rumour from a couple of merchants on his way to Aelyria Prime. The gnome, despite his experience with many oddities, couldn't explain what was going on with Anna's bananas.

He was on his way to Aelyria Prime to learn about cuisines and conduct some trading business but his curiosity about Anna's bananas distracted him from his course.

First things first, we can't start investigating if we do not know who and where the merchant is.

Sima was travelling in his wagon and started immediately on the place where most merchants are: the marketplace. He planned to ask around about the weird bananas and the chicken that turned into a swan from merchants while also buying some ingredients when he must.

The metropolis called “Prime” became the First City like most great cities in history: trade. As such, Sima could not help but gawk at the throngs of people -- hundreds, perhaps thousands, of them -- that milled, shouted, hawked, and bartered as he slowly made his way into the Mercantile District. The cobblestones here were slippery with all manner of refuse. Fishmongers sold their own ‘catch of the day’; hawkers jockeyed to sell everything from street food to fine clothes; and less savory characters pedaled potions, tonics, and other cure-alls.

Being on a wagon helped but Sima’s inquiries pointed him to the lesser known Exotic Market in the northern part of the Mercantile District. Since the destruction of the Ancient Aelyrian’s seat of power, the surge of refugees from all over the Western Realms, and the wars in between, this section of the district became home to foreign merchants. As it were, Anna’s stall took root there -- if rumors could be trusted. So Sima drove his wagon a little further north, braving the crowds, dismounting when a patrol demanded it, and then snaking past narrow alleys and packed streets until he arrived.

It is filled to the brim with market stands covered with cloth and animal pelts of various colours to protect their wares. The stands vary a lot in size, the smallest ones are only three feet wide rickety constructions quickly made of wood fallen from carts or stolen from the walls or doors of nearby buildings. The largest stands for the few regular sellers on the other hand are more permanent in nature, thick logs are buried in the ground to form the basic structure and the stands are almost twenty feet in width, they have some space for customers to stop and look at the wares without being constantly being bumped on by the ever flowing current of people. Some of them even cover both sides of the pathways between.

Salesmen from all over the world gather to sell items rarely found outside their own countries. Dwarves, Elves, Halflings, Humans and Katta alike gather here to present their wares for potential buyers. It is said that whatever you might need, it can be found in the Exotic Market if you have enough coin. Some of them sell snakes and birds, some vegetables, some sell medicine and herbs. It is not rare to find strange weapons, dried up parts of various animals or even metal slabs and uncut gems for sale. If you happen to know the right people to ask, or if you squeeze your way between two certain market stands you might be able to buy items and substances of more illegal nature like rare and deadly poisons or forbidden books of magic and forgotten skills.

Narrow pathways lead the customers and curious between the stands. The cacophony of different languages spoken, animal calls and general sounds of heated discussion and haggling is overwhelming. Whenever a haggling between a seller and buyer occurs, it quickly gathers a flock of curious watchers. Occasionally these groups turn the haggling to bidding when multiple individuals want the same item and the prices soar. If you see something that you really want and there might be other people interested in similar items it is best to pay what the seller demands without further questions.
Anna’s Banana Stand was exactly like it was described: a simple wooden stall uncomfortably squeezed between two larger stalls that looked a lot more permanent than hers. There was several green bananas, some red mangos, hairy-looking grapes, among other strange and unusual variations of common fruits and vegetables. And behind the stall was a woman with sharp features and a hawk-like nose. She had bright blue eyes speckled with ash, like thunderstorms over a vast ocean. Her hair was jet black and she wore a navy blue bandana. Anna stood comfortable, arms crossed over her flat chest and an easy smile on her lips.

“See somethin’ ya like?”, she asked with a drawl mingled with a Eunesian tinge.

Alas! He found Anna's Bananas. It wasn't easy, but is it worth the search? He looked at Anna's products and yes many of her produce are uncommon. Sima wanted to sample all, after all he was in a curious investigation and checking the products might provide clues.

But before everything else, Sima thought he should start with Anna herself.

"You've got quite a strange selection of products mademoiselle. Even stranger rumors have been said about them." Sima smiled as his eyes browse the products.

"I'm a culinary... adventurer myself and it brings joy to find products unusual to explore." He looked at the woman. Introduction good enough?

"Can you recommend what fruits I can use for a dessert?" Sima asked.
