A nauseating sensation sliced through the mystic’s head as she posed her question, and it required every morsel of strength in her body not to succumb to it. A warning, she realized. She had overstepped the bounds of Kalannar’s memory, and even though she recalled having a conversation similar to the one they were having now, the liberty that she had taken was being vomited out of his mind.

On instinct, she winced away from the two brothers and touched her temples. Focus, she repeated over and over to herself. If only she could replay this exact memory in her own mind and replicate it to the smallest detail. Alas, that was not a liberty that she had at the present moment – she would have to do her best.

Rather than respond to Kalannar’s answer to her own question, she simply nodded. She found some comfort when the elder Kitrye’veresi entered his bedroom and began to unstrap his sword belt. It was another sign that he was not completely lost yet. She remembered being with him in his bedroom while they packed, and so she started towards his dresser to begin the tedious process of gathering his belongings.

That was when she saw the family picture that depicted almost everyone except for Kalannar as well as his empty desk.

Where was everything?

If the mostly vacant bedroom was an accurate reflection of the current state of his mind, then Kalannar was in dire trouble. She bit her lower lip nervously as she renewed her investigation into the warrior’s drawers and began to pluck out articles of clothing that he would need for the tournament.

She found Kalannar’s emerald cape bearing the crescent moon of House Kitrye’veresi in his closet and folded it neatly onto his desk. Even now, the sight of their clan’s old insignia nudged her heart.

You’re welcome,” she softly said as she walked towards Kalannar’s closet and rummaged for his black boots. She remembered them being here. When she found them, she set them at the base of the table.

The Matron told me to remind you to wear your black tunic and pants tomorrow,” she said as she reached into the dresser’s lower drawers to retrieve those same items. “I’ll put them on the desk for you as well so that you don’t forget. Also, Da’nael will be bringing your armor to change into before the opening ceremony begins.

She smiled slightly and watched as Faust headed towards the edge of the bed, sat down, and began to bounce casually in place.

Would you like anything else before going to bed, Lord Kalannar?” she asked, struggling to avoid another glance at the corrupted portrait.

Kalannar took to the prompt at the end well. It was as if his consciousness was fighting to recall more of its own accord as well. Gentle nudges that were similar to or in lone with his things truly occurred worked the best thus far.

"well.. " Kalannar said looking to Faust and Karis "It has been eras but... how about a game of lizard-riders and swords?"

Faust did not notice and Karis found it hard to notice but that a cabinet materialised in its rightful position and Kalannar went to collect the game from inside. All of the usua contents and clothing were there to be seen.

Reptiles and swords as a combat game with carved stone figurines in this edition. Other editions had the pieces carved out of wood, bone and other materials both rare and common. It was rare in the overworld but if one was dedicated enough it could still be found.

The rules of the game were much loke the tournament the following day. Each player's character was chosen by their matriarch for a specific mission yet no other olayer knew what the mission was. The players took turns goinng around the game board, gaining loot and magicks while fighting monsters and even stealing from the other players. As opposed to the tournament the idea was to avoid combat as the story went it would ignite a war between the houses. The one who returned with their mission complete first would see their matriarch set upon the throne of the mythical Kingdom of Terr'Guth.

Kalannar's self reflection of himself seemed younger for a moment before returning to Karis's approximation of his appearance at this time. It was momentary but it was enough for Karis to notice how much of an influence she had by her mere presence and own recollection of events. So how did the game itself go?

Behind her quiet stare, Ka’ris observed a subtle change in Kalannar’s demeanor. It was barely noticeable, but to the keen mystic, who had spent her entire life studying people’s behaviors and learning how to manipulate them, it was evident. Indeed, the seasoned mage could intuitively sense that Kalannar was struggling to piece the memory back together – she merely needed to show him the way.

I probably shouldn’t but . . .” A thin smile formed on her face. He’s remembering. “One game, Lord Kalannar, and then I insist that you rest for tomorrow.” She nodded lightheartedly but firmly. It was difficult to believe that she had nearly forgotten that they had played Lizards-riders and Swords the night before the biggest day of Kalannar’s young life . . .

She recalled thinking to herself back then that Kalannar had merely been trying to distract himself from his nerves.

The cabinet that contained the gameboard appeared out of nowhere. To most, its sudden emergence would have been astonishing, but Ka’ris recognized it as Kalannar’s mind filling in the gaps in his memory. Good, she thought to herself as he set the game on the table in his room.

Now, if only she could remember what exactly had happened during their play . . .

As her gaze shot across the table, she noticed that Kalannar’s appearance, too, changed slightly, reverting to a version of himself that was slightly younger than the one that she initiated had the memory with. She held her breath, believing that the reimaging was a good thing as it meant that Kalannar was slowly regaining a more vivid picture of this particular memory.

Reaching into the box, Ka’ris unfolded the gameboard and laid it onto the table. She then reached for a deck of cards that contained the identities of the characters – all Vysstichi, of course - that they would play. She offered Kalannar his pick first, then Faust, who eagerly leapt from the bed and pulled a card out from the deck.

Finally, Ka’ris chose a card herself. “I got Erawan the Assassin of House Esrwyndyn,” she said.

Orynn the Sorcerer of House Jhenel,” Faust happily said, clearly pleased with his random selection.

Who did you pick, Lord Kalannar?” she asked as she reached for another deck of cards: the mission cards.

She was uncertain if the identities of their chosen characters were the same that they had actually picked in real life, but she vaguely recalled the eldest son of Matron Kal’adriel Kitrye’veresi ironically picking the Fighter card.

"I got ...." Kalannar said as he picked the character card from the like "Azothoth, warrior of House Ter'Selothi"

The game was going as expected and things appeared to be going on track for the game itself.

Each character had its own special ability. The sorcerer could teleport short distances within its line of sight and had a spell book it could learn. The assassin was unseen in a room until it took its first action and had first strike and the warrior had two attacks each round.

The piece which represented Azothoth was also fittingly a twin bladed warrior just like its player. Each character started at the edge of the board in a different position which represented the private estate of their house. The map itself was of the nightlands with twists and tunnels and spread through were various rooms that contained hidden treasures. Each room also had its own specific item that always could be found there. The mission cards that the players would next pick uo would reveal what they needed to get or to do in order to win.

The game also had certain rules. It allowed players to trade items while in the same room but akso allowed players to attack one another with rules dealing with surrender or unconsciousness. It was possible to kill a player which was only the difference of the number on the dice. This would result in the player being executed else a war would start between the houses as the flavour text explained. There were no rules against arranging accidents or forcing another player to kill a third party. That was all a part of the game.

As the game was set up a starting question determined who went first

Kalannar read out this question "which one of us has the longest hair?"

You always get Azothoth,” Ka’ris said when Kalannar revealed his character. Her smile bloomed into a light laugh that was nothing short of genuine. Sometimes the players dispensed with the randomization of the selectable characters and simply chose the ones that they wanted to be. Kalannar, she amusedly recalled, always picked the dual wielding Vysstichi, Azothoth. Faust, ironically, always preferred the mages.

With their characters designated now, Ka’ris reached for the mission cards and passed one to each of them, including herself. Hers read, “Retrieve the sacred ruby spider for the Mother of Darkness.”

She scanned the game board briefly as they readied to begin, placing Erawan in his respective corner and watching as the others did likewise with their game pieces. For the life of her she could not remember who had actually won in the end, but she was optimistic insofar as it seemed that Kalannar’s mind was slowly filling in the gaps in his memory.

Definitely not me,” Faust disappointedly answered when Kalannar asked his question. The young boy sighed and traced the length of his tousled silver tresses in between his fingers. “Too bad it didn’t ask for the person with the shortest hair.

Ka’ris smiled. “I guess I’m going first then,” she said, winking at the prince and then reaching for the two six-sided dice that would dictate how many spaces her character would be able to move along the game board.

With the flick of her wrist, she sent the black dice spinning atop the table. When they settled, the numbers “2” and “6” faced upward. She extended her hand and moved Erawan eight spaces from her starting house and towards the Nightlands. Her assassin landed on the picture of a cavern complete with stalagmites and stalactites – the most likely scene of an ambush, any experienced Lizard-riders and Swords player would know.

I’ll wait,” she said, foregoing an action this round. She then passed the dice to Kalannar, whose hair was the next longest.

It’s your turn next, Azothoth.

Kalannar inclined his head as in the bookshelf suddenly appeared a book titled Azozoth and the dome of mysteries. There was an amateur writer among the oalace who had given that book as a gift. It was one of a kind, written by a middling authir but Kalannar still kept it. It had been bound well and was otherwise an expensive book even if the writing would never be considered that of a master. Written in Vyssticci's dark eleven script it would be unlikely to ever reach fame even if more than one copy existed.

Kalannar rolled a 4 and a 6 moving 10 spaces entering into a chamber. Kalannar also never forewent his actions. Having entered a chamber the action cards had a description of what was contained therein. He had found an item which almowed him to pick up an item from the item deck, which happened to be the helmet of Siegfried the unwise. Human items were not uncommon and often were still useful as armour but always came with the feature 'Monster magnet'. Being the warrior this was the least amount of trouble for Azothoth but it was always questionable as the other classes to wear human armours. Some players refused on the basis that it was sacrilege even in a game to entertain using crude human armours (even though they were neither crude or inferior in many cases).

The action card also indicated by taking the item a special event was triggered and a special event card would need to be drawn.

Ambush! two monsters appeared in the room out of secret doors. Luck was on Kalannar's side as the two monsters drawn, goblin stalkers, only 1 could attack this turn based on its move restrictions in this room. Having equipped the helm Azothoth had further protection as well.

Thus left Faust to begin his turn before the monsters abd environment ment had theirs requiring an environment die to be thrown and a counter moved on the 'clock' on the board that would determine which tunnels were accessible or nor across the board.

"monsters! Well that is unfortunate for them" Kalannar said grinning.

The mystic turned her head in the direction of Kalannar’s distracted gaze. It was then that she saw a book appear on a shelf that had previously been empty: Azozoth and the Dome of Mysteries. She had never read the book before, nor was she familiar with it, but its sudden appearance was a most promising sight indeed. Kalannar was slowly regaining his memory. Ka’ris did not know how long it would take for him to completely refill the voids that had been left in his mind after House Kitrye’veresi’s fall, or even how long she would have to relive this current memory, but this was a start.

At the sound of dice striking the table again, Ka’ris returned her attention to the gameboard as Kalannar moved his warrior piece the corresponding number of steps. As expected, Kalannar chose to act – he always did no matter the arena. Ka’ris was not nearly the fighter that Kal’adriel’s eldest son was, but she had beheld him in combat enough to know how decisive he was in battle. His opponents rarely stood a chance against him.

He carried that same killer instinct with him no matter what he did.

Such confidence for a warrior wearing human armor,” Ka’ris quipped with a smile. She and Kalannar had often exchanged such lighthearted banter whenever they played Lizard Riders and Swords, and this round had been no exception. “I hope that Da’nael brings you the right helmet tomorrow.

And what a helmet it was, Ka’ris remembered. Wrought of the finest Vysstichi steel, the horned helm that Matron Kal’adriel Kitrye’veresi had designed for Kalannar had been nothing short of a masterpiece. It, along with the rest of his resplendent black armor, had been the topic of conversation by countless men and women throughout Hon’elgg, Herozzal, and Har’oloth following the tournament.

They’re only goblins – nothing Azothoth the Warrior can’t handle!” Faust innocently remarked, missing Ka’ris sarcasm. Now that it was his turn, the young noble collected the dice and tossed them onto the table, yielding a “3” and a “2”.

His sorcerer, Orynn, advanced five spaces, landing on a guard tower that was still inside the walls of his starting point. “I’ll search,” he said, then drew a card that revealed an item: a single vial of poison antidote.

When it was Ka’ris’ turn again, she rolled the dice and the numbers “4” and “5” showed. Moving her game piece nine spots forward, she found her piece landing atop the abandoned ruins of a former Vysstichi stronghold based in the Nightlands. “Search,” Ka’ris said, picking a card like Faust had: a bag of jewels, which could be used to purchase items form randomly encountered merchants.

She turned to Kalannar as it was his turn next. “Watch out for those goblins. They bite,” she jested.

The monsters went next, attacking Azothoth the warrior. Its dice roll did not succeed and the second goblin, attracted to the monster magnet human helmet moved directly toward the space Azothoth so that it landed within one space of the warrior. The rukes required at leadt 1 movement point to make an attack. Azothoth was the only one with a default exception which could make two attacks instead of one.

"I choose not to move" Kalannar said aware that ti move now would mean allowing the monsters an opportunity to strike out on his turn requiring an evade maneuvre "and attack both goblins once"

Goblins were weak and could be killed in oneblow normally and this was no exception.

...

The game continued in this vein for half a candlemark. Each player had made considerable progress om their turn and it was now at the point where each could win.

It was now Karis's turn and Azothoth had the item required for her to win except he already had an immunity to theft and was no willing to trade. As an assassin she had the first strike ability and could win if she managed to do so without being caught. It would require a single blow and kill... but what would this do to kalannar's confidence? The mind she inhabitted did not give her the guidance it had previously. Karis knew that she had the means to make the blow. She had all the right cards to make the blow and win. Karis knew herself from the past and what she would have done even if she dodn't recall this game.... but what was the best action to save Kalannar?

As expected, Azothoth the Warrior dispatched the goblins as easily as if Kalannar had been fighting them himself. Throughout the fake battle, Ka’ris lifted her gaze to the elder Kitrye’veresi, wondering if more and more of his memory was returning. The fact that they were even in one now was a testament to his hopeful recovery, especially because much of it was as accurate as she personally remembered.

And all she could do was continue to support him.

The rounds continued, each player gaining various items and ground that would draw them closer to victory. It was sometime during the game’s progression that Ka’ris was poised to win. Azothoth, whether he realized it or not, had acquired the object that she had been tasked with finding: the sacred ruby spider.

He was her only obstacle to victory . . .

The mystic bit her lower lip uncertainly. As an assassin, she could easily deliver the fatal blow to Azothoth from behind, retrieve the ruby, and emerge the victor. Unfortunately, for the life of her she could not remember if she had won this game or lost to Kalannar on the night before the grand tournament.

A thousand hypotheticals floated through her mind, none of them providing her with any insight on what to do next. If she won, would that shatter Kalannar’s confidence and possibly sacrifice any progress that he had made thus far? Would losing on purpose have the opposite effect? There was no way to know . . .

But the Ka’ris that she knew would never throw a game, nor would the Kalannar that she remembered ever want someone to for his benefit.

It’s time for you to go to sleep, Azothoth,” she equivocally said, moving her piece into position for the First Strike. With a small smile, she rolled the two dice, which yielded a “5” and a “6”. She only needed more than a six for her attack to be successful.

Faust groaned.

I’ll be taking that,” she pleasantly said, reaching for the ruby spider in Kalannar’s card inventory, “and reminding you to watch your back tomorrow.” She winked playfully.

The game was over.

The question was, had she really won?

There were academic questions about menory abd recollection that could be asked. If you relived a memory, woukd that recollectuon be the same as the event? Most never got the chance to find out in practice. Kalannar and Karis were now reliving a memory but how could either tell if they has misstepped if they happened to recollect things contrary to the event?

If there had been an issue with this it had not caused a memory tremor such as on the way to bed. Kalannar merely looked at his piece and the result. He had let himself be defeated by the assassin who, having not been caught in the act of murder, became the winner.

"Something to consider.."Kalannar said in a candid moment of honesty "thank you both for indulging me our childhood pastime."

Kalannar stretched as he got up and started to bid the farewell. The bedroom appeared much closer to that which Karis remembered with items reappearing as time went by. The bedroom was not 100% as Karis remembered it but the painted portrait finally seemed near complete. Only the matriarch was missing from the picture.

"I shall be able to sleep a lot better after spending a little time with my young protege and the sharp as every Lady Karis" Kalannar offered as he bid them goodnight "May the night be kind to you both. Goodnight"

As Kalannar closed the doors Karis found herself in a fading moment that gave way to a blur. Her presence here was only an assumption of the mind she occupied and she soon found her consciousness shift to the next seen in this chain of memories where Karis had been present.

The day of the tournament awaits.

Rest well, Lord Kalannar,” Ka’ris said as she bade the two princes farewell. She silently slid out of the room and closed the door behind her, leaving Faust and Kalannar to whatever late night conversations the brothers usually indulged in. Her last glimpse of the elder sibling’s room was mildly encouraging as it resembled the layout that she personally recalled, but it was still too early to dispense with unease.

She did not know where her psionic body disappeared to afterwards, but she found herself moments later in the grand Coliseum of N’Zadaras. Tucked deep beneath the surface, N’Zadaras was a large Vysstichi settlement that was equidistant from all three mother cities. It had been destroyed shortly after House Kitrye’veresi’s fall and mostly forgotten, but there had been a time when it had been most grand indeed and a hub of underground entertainment.

Similar to the Coliseum in Aelyria Prime, the open-ceilinged dome was nearly as tall as it was wide. Wrought of black stone that was veined with glowing purple magic, it embodied the pinnacle of Vysstichi power. It was often said that if the three Vysstichi cities had unified, there would be no place in Aelyria that was safe for anyone.

As Ka’ris stared down from the section that had been assigned for House Kitrye’veresi’s nobles and servants, she could hardly dispute that.

Matron Kal’adriel and General Kymril were seated nearby and several rows closer to the fighting. Faust and his two sisters, Vylkos and Phyrra, were beside them.

The entire coliseum was packed with spectators this brightening, with Vysstichi hailing from all over the continent.

And all eyes were focused on the arena below, which was a mostly flat landscape peppered with boulders and stalagmites for warriors to maneuver or escape around if need be during the battle. Almost everyone in the coliseum had been looking forward to this particular fight.

Ka’ris held her breath as she watched Kalannar enter the arena to the cheers and boos of thousands of dark elves. Resplendent in his black armor and horned helm, he was a true champion of House Kitrye’veresi.

Across from him was another Vysstichi with a similar build. He clutched a long sword in one hand and a short sword in the other. He had an average face, but his body was clearly chiseled beneath his silver armor.

Ril’fest of House Nil’alin, Seventh House of Herozzal, Ka’ris keenly recalled. He had been a prized warrior in that family and highly regarded back then.

Kalannar had butchered poor Ril’fest in a matter of seconds . . .

The promising warrior simply nodded before lunging forward at Kalannar, his long sword sweeping outward in a wide slash at the Kitrye’veresi’s face.

Ril'fest was a formidable warrior to be at the top of his house. All in this competition were formidable warriors. It was just unfortunate for Ril'fest that Kalannar was a cut above the rest. This fight would be over in seconds...

Such a forward lunge with an outward sweep of the sword was both predictable and easy to dodge. At this level Ril'fest would be following up with the secondary sword to piece the armour near the torso. It was a commendable strike and a middling swordsman might have struggled with the strike but Kalannar was at the top of his game.

Choosing to duck under the swordblow he used his own offhand blade to parry the strike that Ril'fest may have been striking with. If there were no strike, then the blade would endanger Ril'fest core and would warrant a response - a dodge. Given the momentum of the forward outward strike and lunch that would forst Rilfest into only one direction, Kalannar surmised. It couldn't be a dodge to the left because that would follow the strike of Kalannar's offhand blade and with the forward lunge there would be the serious risk for Ril'fest, in Kalannar's estimation, that there was enough force to make traction against a portion of his armour and find flesh. Instead such a dodge would have to be in the right, creating an opening for Kalannar's right arm and main hand. With the anticipated dodge to the right Kalannar places his left foot forwards and to the right to change the angle between he and his opponent, seeking to make it so any strike from Ril'fest's offhand weapon would come too slow and be a strike at a location he was not at. With his main hand he used his weapon to pierce at the space that Ril'fest would be forced to maneuvre. It was a quick strike and was designed to pierce into the weaker armour near the torse and to strike upwards under the ribcage.

It was a strike that worked on anticipation and on force maneuvres on a hasty opponent. The footwork was confident as Kalannar moved forwards into the open space that he intended to prevent Rilfest to enter both by his offhand strike/parry as well as his own forward momentum making the only space available one that left him open by the sudden strike while Kalannar attempted to keep his offhand and main weapon busy, off balanced our out of play. Such a maneuvre became possible because of the hasty strike that RIl'fest entered with but the debt of honour that Kalannar owed to each and every opponent meant that if they left themselves available to a strike then they must be struck down. Honour demanded the best of Kalannar. Humouring an opponent was considered the poorest of form among the houses.

As Karis may have watched the tournament below if she were to look around she would find the crowd out of focus. Her mind would compensate from her own memories to the extent that she could remember and it would take an effort not to push her imagination to fill in the gaps. It was clear from this memory that things were mostly all a blur for Kalannar at this time. The only details filled out were those that his mind were intimately familiar with which made the blurry image of the matriarch stand out to Karis all the more. The matriarch was someone that should not be difficult for Kalannar to remember especially with how the tournament ended so the question hung in the air of this space of thought - how can Karis restore the matriarch at this time and what happens if doesn't?

The sweat that smeared Ril’fest’s brow was evidence enough of Kalannar’s growing reputation. Even though he was young by the standards of the elves, there was not a warrior in the three Vysstichi kingdoms that had not heard of Kal’adriel and Kymril Kitrye’veresi’s eldest son. Trained from birth to carry on the legacy of his powerful parents, the young man had been groomed for this very moment.

And he did not disappoint.

Ril’fest’s eyes widened terribly as his sword sliced through thin air, eviscerating the exact spot that Kalannar had been standing in only seconds ago. The son of Matron Nil’alin was a proud warrior and had received the same elite training that most noble-born lads did since being born, and so, he desperately tried to recover. His gaze followed the blur of Kalannar’s dodge to the right but, as the Kitrye’veresi had predicted, there was absolutely nothing that he could do about it due to his forward momentum.

To his credit, he tried shifting his near-hand blade upward to parry Kalannar’s oncoming thrust, and his efforts might have been rewarded against a lesser opponent, but the Kitrye’veresi’s blade sailed through his defenses, scoring a solid hit against Ril’fest’s ribcage. Kalannar’s sword punched through his opponent’s armor, too, drawing blood and sending him backpedaling to avoid being completely impaled through the body.

His short sword clanked to the floor.

The crowd fell silent as they stared in awe, no one having quite expected such a quick and one-sided exchange. Ril’fest, too, seemed to sense that they were stunned. His face contorted angrily, his pride clearly wounded.

He turned his head in the direction of his matron, who was seated among the spectators and wore a look of pure disapproval upon her face.

Graaah!” Ril’fest growled and charged forward, his gait noticeably slowed due to his injury. He gripped his long sword in a two-handed hold and brought it overhead in a descending chop meant to sever his Kitrye’veresi opponent from his shoulder through his pelvis.

He stood no chance, Ka’ris remembered. She already knew that the battle was about to end. Her attention, however, drifted towards the fuzzy crowd, which told her that Kalannar was still struggling to regain his complete memory of the unfolding scene. Was there anything that she could do?

Her eyes drifted to Matron Kal’adriel Kitrye’veresi, whose icy visage was the epitome of smug pride. She sat silently, obviously pleased.

If only Ka’ris could somehow use Kal’adriel as a focal point to help rejog her old friend’s memory.

Finish him, Kalannar!” Ka’ris suddenly shouted, her voice sailing through the wind as she cheered the elder Kitrye’veresi on and tried to rally those around her to do likewise. She did not remember those words exactly, but she recalled shouting quite a lot at the tournament during Kalannar’s matches.

Ka’ris held her own breath, not because of the battle, but because she remembered this brightening as clearly as any Kitrye’veresi had. Never in the history of the tournament had House Kitrye’veresi won. Today had been as much a victory for Kalannar has it had been for his mother.

With all of House Kitrye’veresi behind Kalannar, she hoped that it would be enough to help him remember . . .

The crowd didn't readily snap into focus. It was as if thr majority of the crowd had only been seen in peripheral vision. The sounds however were more focussed particularly around Karis and the other Kitrye'veresi members. Kalannar had definitely paid attention to his family.

Never the less he didn't have the opportunity to show he was listening as his opponent made a desperate two handed lunge with his long sword in a diagonal strike toward Kalannar. Wielding twin blades he couldn't simply parry as thr force of the blow would breakthrough that. He couldn't easily dodge because the diagonal arc of the blow limited these choices.

He would need a combination response. Using his main weapon to deflect the strike he sought only to buy a few inches of room so he could purchase some of the momentum from the strike into his dodge.

This time with Rilfest's lunge Kalannar sought to use his right leg to trip his opponent with his own sowed and force knowing that his upper body would follow forwards with the blow he sought to deliver as the lower body lunged forwards. With the pummel of his shorter offhad weapon he applied force to the shoulder further seeking to tip the centre of gravity with the blow.

Should Rilfest flounder and fall Kalannar would then trap his opponent under his weight. The combination of flesh and armour was sure to limit Rilfest's ability to maneuvre. He would then press the shortsword to Rilfest's neck and, although karis could not hear, would speak

"It is over, concede, train again and fight" Kalannar offered "Sidhpeace"

Rilfest was in such a position that if he so chose he could force Kalannar's blade into his neck with a quick necksnap ending the fight with a victory. Karis was in the stands trying to decide if this memory matched reality ir if it had been misrememberedchoose whether ir not Karis considers this how it ought to have happened or if she thinks it needs to go differebtly using the opportunities in the scene at her discretion to alter the event or altered by Kalannar's own psyche

Ril’fest was no match for his opponent, and he knew it. Such was revealed in his frantic charge and his desperate attack.

His blade poised high above his head to forecast his intentions, the son of the Seventh House of Herozzal bellowed his battle cry and delivered a sweeping downward slash towards his formidable foe. Metal screeched against metal as Kalannar’s deft parry redirected the trajectory of Ril’fest’s sword, sending it, along with his momentum, downward.

The hilt of Kalannar’s opposite sword struck Ril’fest’s shoulder a second later, and that, coupled with Kalannar’s tripping leg, sent Ril’fest tumbling to the ground in a loud thump.

The crowd might have been blurred in Kalannar’s memory, but the boisterous roar of their cheers echoed in the background. Ka’ris watched as Kalannar set his blade against Ril’fest’s neck and whispered something that was inaudible to the priestess from afar.

The mystic could feel the sweat gathering in her palms as she watched nervously. Although the tournament was a brutal ordeal, killing one’s opponent was not required, nor was it smiled upon either. It happened, of course, in the ordinary flow of combat, but as all of the participants were nobles of the various Vysstichi families, they tended not to slay each other, although maiming was generally impossible to avoid as real weapons were always used.

Ril’fest’s sword clattered to the floor, his open hands held in front of him. “I yield,” he begrudgingly said, and with that response given, a wizard teleported into the arena and declared Kalannar the winner to the applause of everyone in the coliseum.

Ka’ris breathed a little easier. She did not remember Kalannar slaying anyone in the tournament, including his final opponent, the son of the Second House of Hon’elgg. Luckily, Kalannar’s recollection of the events thus far was mostly accurate.

Rising to her feet along with the other members of the Kitrye’veresi household, she smiled and clapped her hands with them.
