Kaar watched the cub move with an easy fluid grace, typical of its kind. It hadn't lost any mobility that was for certain, but its free will was evidently gone. The cat, the first to make an aggressive move towards the psychotic red fae, was now sitting neatly beside him. This was troubling, but Kaar was only slightly concerned. That would likely be the druidic influence on the spell, bending the animals will, and Kaar was no animal. Well, at least in his mind. He made no move as the fae cavorted forwards. He had a feeling this was going to be as humiliating as it was painful. Around him the others were advancing to subject themselves to this. Kaar knew that it was a fools hope, this new power wouldn't be their own. It was a leash for these animals to wear, and for the fae to hold. But they weren't aware of that, instead they blindly sought this gift, a gift almost Trojan in its nature. He closed his eyes and prepared himself. Here it came. His eyes opened, and all the fae would see in them was hate.

He had thought he was prepared. He was wrong.

He'd suffered pain before, almost all his life he'd been in agony of one kind or another. From minor scrapes and bruises, torn ligaments and stretched muscles, to cuts and stab wounds, but it was nothing like being burnt alive. It was a sizzling, incredible, excruciating sensation. He could feel his flesh boiling away, the fat crackling and spitting, the blood in his veins roiling, and it went on forever. In his mind, the screams went on forever. But in his mind he was not alone. He seethed at the message.

'Give in? You want me to just give in to this madness is that it? I am Kaar Isa'Alm. I have survived the ravages of Hayans, I have commanded the respect of warriors, I have fought ghosts for control of my mind, and I will not give in to YOU.'

He would let this pain take his body, but his mind, his soul, no. That was, and always would be, his own. He tensed his will against the one that sought to intrude. Such hollow promises may have fooled a leopard cub, but not a Kemite warrior.

'Get. Out. Of. My. Head!'

With a colossal force of his will, he would fight against the intruding paradigm, refusing to give his ground. Nobody could command him. Not unless it was on his terms.

ooc: lol "August 15th" whaaat? I'm so lame.

ic:
They fought. They all did. It merely turned out that some were stronger than others. But what then happened to those that were stronger? Were they consumed in the flames? What if the only escape from the fate that awaited was death?

The fire flailed over him, licked over his furry little rodent body, sucked at his innards and curled around his eyes, squeezing and twisting so that the pain was excruciating.

And then it stopped.

Smoke billowed off of him as silence wrapped around him, a silence that lasted for a few long moments before there was a sharp giggle, familiar now as the little fae that seemed to be engineering this whole thing. He clapped his little hands. "Another pretty poppet, do you see? Good work, good job. Well done, well done!"

The pain was gone in entirety as the smoke wisped and disappeared. The air around him cleared and others around him stared wide-eyed, cowed, terrified, wondering when it would be their turn next. As for Kaar, he felt none too different...if except quite warm, as if a furnace now radiated within him.

"Well then, mouse-y, come come come. Be a good little critter. Sit next to papa." More giggles as the fae indicated the ground beside the primly seated fire leopard that sat more like a soldier awaiting orders than a natural-born cat.

Unlike the cat, Kaar felt no compulsion to obey. Already the fae was turning his attention away from Kaar as he indicated the sprite that accompanied him. "Let's move this along, shall we?" He lifted his hands like a maestro ready to stir the audience with his instruments.

ooc: That's nothing, I have a thread or two that sat for a year before I went and shook down a peer moderator.

This was it. This was how he was going to die. The flames engulfed him, became him, tore him asunder and put him back together. With screeching, unendurable agony, Kaar was turned to ash. As the smoke cleared however, a horribly familiar giggle cut through the sudden absence of pain and sound. He opened his eyes, finding himself still alive, and surrounded by terrified animals. He squeaked, belching smoke, and was still.

The pain had ceased, and despite an almost uncomfortable heat, he felt just fine. He peered around the clearing, until the fae spoke again. He stared at the fae for a brief second, before he moved to sit next to him. He would impose himself between the leopard and the fae, sitting at rapt attention. Kaar needed time to think.

Whatever this was had to stop.

As the fae lifted his hands, Kaar loosed a horrifying rat-like snarl, turning and pouncing at the little bastard. Despite the size changes, Kaar had enough brawn in relation to the fae to pose a serious physical threat. His goal was to bowl the fellow over, and fasten his two horribly sharp teeth around his throat. He was going to lock his teeth there to prevent anybody from interfering with him, and have a little chat with the critter, albeit one that would likely be hard to understand.

Despite the new fire within Kaar, there was no worry in the fae's mannerisms as he gesticulated the furry critter over to him, treated him as if he were a brand new pet to be crooned over, to be…loved. One moment his attention had been given to the man-turned-beast, the next he was dismissed, a problem no longer and even more…of no further interest. There were other toys yet to be made, to be played with.

With his guard so let down, there was little protection to be made against the leaping thing that shrieked and bore itself down at his throat. The fae twisted and flailed, a high-pitched shriek of his own escaping his throat. Fire flamed up around them, an instinctive defense, and Kaar felt himself consumed by the flames…but felt hot blood like a second fire too pouring over his mouth.

Yet neither bothered him.

Yet it took a moment to realize he had not struck the jugular, had not even struck throat. He'd grabbed at the fae's shoulder, a far less destructive bite…yet damaging all the same.

Chaos broke out around them. There was the screaming of the female fae and the various utterances of the animals all around--triumph, eagerness, despair and upset. It all mingled together as they hung in limbo, Kaar on the body of the small fae and the fae desperate to get the snikch off of him, his small hands battering at Kaar, weakening, weakening, yet no less frantic.

It wasn't the fae that brought Kaar flying off the winged menace, however. Fire-scorched vines snaked around him and flung him to the ground, bound him there though they smoked and burned, weakening. "Stop it! Stop! Oh no, oh Eggy. Oh, no, oh no!" the little fae hovered in anxiety over the bloodied body of the fire-one.

She swung around towards Kaar then, the vines weak but still hanging on to Kaar. Kaar could feel the charred meat in his mouth, a good chunk of flesh having come away when he had been yanked. "You…you…!" She leveled a finger at him, as if determined to do something, to extract some retribution. Yet nothing came. Her finger curled back, her hands making fists. She choked bitterly on her tears and flung herself at the red fae on the ground, trying to find a way to staunch the bleeding.

The fae was weak, but alive and conscious, if barely so. He swayed into a rough seated position, though nearly fell back onto the ground again. Propping herself, he glared at the little rodent. "I want him dead! Kill it! Kill it!"

All around, those with fire in their eyes twitched forward, started towards Kaar in his charred-vine prison.

Kaar would have smirked if he could. The spastic fae had let his guard down, giving him the perfect opportunity. As he felt his teeth sink into the shoulder of the little bastard, he worked them deeper, chewing until he was wrenched off, a large piece of the little red bastard's flesh in his burning mouth. The hot blood or wash of flames didn't bother him, nor did the ineffectual blows from the diminutive fists of the little red man. He spat aside the wad of flesh in his mouth, and turned his attention on the vines around him.

Fire had been an ineffectual defense, and now they summoned vines to stop him? Kaar focused on the burning heat within him, letting it grow, letting it wash outwards, even as he began to gnash at his prison with his claws and teeth. The elementalist was almost out of the picture. It was soon time to deal with the druid. At least before the rest of the animals got to him. His teeth flashed, and his claws flared. The fire inside him burned, and his will burned hotter.

As he tried to wrench himself free his efforts would begin to turn towards finishing off the red menace so he could turn his attentions to his counterpart.
