A quest for work study at Imaden (Vers, Fish Stick please!)
Brightening 1 of Cycle 1 of the Month of Kalendryas, in the season of Winter, Era 1, Era XV PF
Having been told by Galdor Feiniel that Mr. Sylkin was the man to speak to about work study, Lyssoryl sought him out on the morning of the first brightening of Kalendryas. She had washed her clothes the night before so as to look presentable, and they were still just a bit damp, causing her to hug herself for warmth in the cold winter air. At his office, she introduced herself.
"Hello! Your registrar Mr. Feiniel told me that you were the person to speak to about work study. My name is Lyssoryl, and I'm a new student here. I was hoping to arrange for work in the cafeteria, if at all possible. I am not a trained cook but I have nimble and willing fingers. I can scald, pluck and dress out a pullet in a very short time, and I am quite handy with a peeling knife. ALso I make it a point to always be cheerful, even in early morning hours, although I am willing to moderate my cheer if it gets on the nerves of those with the morning grumpies."

As she approached Mr. Sylkin, the young mystic whom had worked at the front desk before Galdor looked at the halfling. Sizing her up, as there was not really much to size up, he then said, "I think we can find a place in the kitchen that could use your help... Perhaps you can follow me, and we can talk on our way to the cafeteria?" He then began to walk towards the cafeteria with her along side of him.
OOC: Lyssoryl, edit your main post to provide us with a time stamp?

"I think we can find a place in the kitchen that could use your help... Perhaps you can follow me, and we can talk on our way to the cafeteria?"
"Why certainly!" She fell into step beside him. "I'm afraid I did not come to school prepared with character references, but at least when you hire halflings you need not fear them running amok or intimidating the current staff."
Despite her short legs, Lyssoryl could be a quick walker when she was in the mood, with a certain skipping or bouncing quality entering her stride. Thus, she did not have trouble keeping up with Mr. Sylkin.
"Is there anything particular you'd like to know about me?"

"I doubt we'll be needing any character references... if we do get you a job in the kitchen, would you like to learn the basics of cooking? I'm sure we could get you set up with that if you'd like..." said Mr. Sylkin.

"That would be marvelous, if it could be arranged! I really very much enjoy cooking, which I suppose is my heritage, being a halfling. I have done the best I could in this regard most of my life, but I've never had either quality ingredients or cookware, and I've had to improvise my own recipes."

"Splendid! I'll have the head cook herself teach you, Her name is Sera Novaclout, and as well as being a cook, she is a very intelligent thaumanturgist, and a very capable person all around..." said Mr. Sylkin. As they continued to walk through the hallways, they entered the Cafeteria, and then took her into the back room where they saw a great deal of cooks running around. One of them looked up, and then said, "Erik! what are you doing here? we have a crowd of people ever since the school reopened. What can i help you out with?"
Erik smiled, and then leaned down to push Lyssoryl forwards, saying, "This is Lyssoryl, and i'd like you to take her under your wing..." The woman looked down at Lyssoryl, and smiled with brown eyes. "It would be my pleasure, one can never have to much help in the kitchen," she said. "Are you interested in learning how to cook?" she asked Lyssoryl...

Lyssoryl curtsied. "I would be delighted by anything you can teach me! I've always enjoyed cooking, and even better, eating. But growing up a street urchin, I've not usually had either the ingredients or the kitchen a cook would want. My most common meal has been roast pigeon which I'd freshly smacked with a rock earlier in the day. But how can I best help right now? I am a veteran bird plucker, and I am quite a savage potato peeler."

"Well, for now i could use someone to peel potatoes..." the woman said, and with that Mr. Sylkin left Lyssoryl in the hands of the woman. "I'm sure it won't be hard work to start out with... we'll let you learn the ropes first, and peel potatoes for awhile... For now, we'll start the pay at 30 crowns per cycle, until you learn a bit more, then we can increase it..." She directed Lyssoryl over to a table with a load of potatoes upon one side, a peeler, and a tray on the other side. Placing a small wooden stool on the ground, so that Lyssoryl could stand upon it, and work, she smiled, and then went about her business for the rest of the day, leaving Lyssoryl to peel potatoes.
OOC: If you wish to continue this thread, we can do so, but i'll also create another thread for your basic cooking training...

Lyssoryl was as good as her word. She was small, and not especially strong even for a halfling, but she was exceedingly nimble and the potatoes flew her hands with impressive speed.
OOC: we can go onto the training thread, I don't have anything to say here that I couldn't say there. Thanks!
