Dinner (Galdor Feiniel, open)

Lyssoryl came down to entrance hall of the Imaden magic school, looking freshly scrubbed, her hair still damp.

Galdor! She said to the elf at the desk.

Can I call you Galdor? How long until you are off work? Where does one eat around here? Shall we try the cafeteria, or the Red Mullet tavern, or do you know of another place?

Galdor Feiniel is unknown and forgotten
The Month of Kalendryas, in the Season of Winter, Era I of the Celestine Mandate, Era XV Post Fractum.

Galdor had just finished filing away that days reports of students when Lyssoryl came walking in, hair still wet. He shot her a smile, "Serale Lyssoryl. Sure call me Galdor...most everyone else does," he was bombarded with several more questions "I typically eat in the cafeteria...seeing as it has started to snow I am not sure I want to venture outside. Perhaps if the snow lets up we can take a walk around the school. I am also off of work in...wait for it...wait for it...now!" He hoped he could get some laughter out of her. Considering he hadn't seen her since she showed up registering for Song classes. Stepping out from behind the counter, he over shadowed the halfling. "I haven't seen you in awhile, not since Imperos when you came and registered." He motioned for her to follow him as he headed towards the dining hall of the school.

OOC I put a timestamp on this since it is open that way other people can join in if they life.

Galdor's efforts to make lyssoryl laugh were not in vain. Her laugh was rich and melodic, if a bit too staccato to be entirely pleasing. "And not a moment too soon! One more 'wait for it' and I should have swooned with hunger and you would have had to drag me to the cafeteria and ladel stew into my mouth! We halflings are not stoic where it comes to hunger."

The two walked down the stone corridors to the cafeteria, where they found an empty table, having beaten the dinner crowd by a thin margin.

"So, tell me all about yourself and what you've been doing at school. What college do you study, and how did you choose it? Notice I'm giving you a chance to get a word in edgewise, which when conversing with me must be considered a rare and valuable gift."

Sitting at one of the empty tables Galdor smiled... it was nice to have someone to talk to even if she was half his size. Another student delivered them some stew with bread and some mead. Galdor absentmindly stirred the stew as Lyssoryl greeted him with some more questions.

"There isn't much to tell about me... I don't remember much of my childhood. I visited Archadoon, but don't own a hut or anything there. I did think about staying but the winds took me elsewhere. Then I seen an article about Vers Academy and made my trek here. I had some crowns on me, and signed up to study Elementalism. Though I didn't have enough to actually pay for tuition, room, and board so I was offered a job as a Desk Clerk. I took it in a heartbeat. As for choosing what I did... I am not sure, elementalism just seemed to call to me," he took a sip of mead and a bite of his stew before continuing his story "so here I am... able to perform a few spells and talking with you over this somewhat interesting flavored stew I might mention." He made a face to show his disdain for the flavor. "Now what about you, and I am sure that I will be able to talk again," he said with a smile.

"Our tales are not entirely dissimilar. I myself am an orphan, and I grew up in Prime. Life in an orphanage is not as glamorous as you might think, and all and all I cannot recommend it. Still, it is a good bit better than starving in a ditch. Not, I must admit, that I’ve ever TRIED staving in a ditch.”

Lyssoryl paused to take a bite out of her own stew. Galdor felt her surreptitiously studying him out of the corner of her eye, as if trying to make up her mind about something.

“I was actually adopted once. I haven’t told that story to many people. In point of fact, you are the second person I’ve told, the first being a city guard who was of no use whatever. I’m not embarrassed about it or anything, it just isn’t a fun story. And if I’m being honest, I have a penchant for telling tall tales. I don’t mean to maliciously deceive, you understand, I just like stories, and they seem to make people happy. But the side effect is that people don’t always believe me when I tell wild tales, so in this particular case I’ve not bothered.”

“Anyway, there is a certain kind of man (if that word can be applied to such a person), who through some warp or quirk is, shall we say, romantically inclined towards children. I can’t think this sort of person is common, but in a city the size of Prime there must always be a few of them about. Now imagine such a person patronizing an orphanage. ‘Ah ha!’ he thinks, ‘that girl there is a Halfling! She’ll be childlike forever!’

“You can no doubt imagine where this goes. I was all over excitement to have a real family at last, and doubly so when I learned how rich he was, and what a nice house I was to live in. Imagine my horror when he made his requirements known that very evening! It was shear luck that I was able to escape out a window before I was victimized in all manner of startling ways.”

“Well, I could hardly go back to the orphanage after that, he’d know just where to find me. Luckily, I was able to sell some jewelry he’d given me earlier that day to get me all starry-eyed and pliant, and buy a little shack of my own. One way or another I’ve made due.”
