ooc: Narciso and Roland
Quote:
Time was growing short for the two combatants. By the time they finished their banter and made their way to the circle, they had little left to prepare. The crowd gathered in the Colosseum was immense. The shouts, cries and cheers of those attending was such that it was difficult to hear oneself speak much less think. Roland and Narciso found themselves engulfed by this.
This particular match being nonlethal, there were no weapons presented as they neared the circle nor were there pieces of armor or such to protect themselves. No, it was fist against fist, body against body. The winner would be the first one to fall or cry out their surrender. As it was billed a nonlethal match, any weapons introduced would break the rules and would be grounds for instant disqualification and hefty fines, not to mention many upset gamblers.
No shirts, no footwear, no weapons, those were the rules. Beyond that, no holds were barred.
As time grew closer, announcements could be heard spread across the Colosseum with the aid of minor arcanic means. The listing of matches was given and Narciso and Roland were included.

Roland looked forward to the match. He had not been in melee combat since he had returned to Arium, and he felt a little rusty. Did he still have what it takes? Would Narciso feel the brunt force of his fists? Or would the man from Mileswick get creamed? There was just no way to tell. And that was good. It made Roland excited. Made him feel alive again.
Perhaps that was one reason he was always running off to ruins and exploring dungeons, battling warlords and fighting pirates: it was only at these moments that he truly knew who he was, truly felt in synch with both himself and his surroundings. It was why titles and glory meant so little to him, and were so fleeting: to Roland, the struggle mattered much more than the outcome, for it was in the struggle itself that he felt most himself, and most alive.
And now, once again, everything felt like it was coming into focus.
