Explosion at the Academy of Magic Sciences

[Kaelon]

Smoke was billowing into the sky, slinging ash throughout the rubble of the western wing of the Bibliotheke Arkanos, the library of magic at the Academy of Magic Sciences. Vigiles, the local maintenance laborers of Aelyria Prime, were on the scene in a matter of moments and were surveying the damage done.

Most of the Bibliotheke Arkanos remained intact, but the Southwest corner, including the tower, had collapsed upon itself, and a small but controllable fire had begun to fester. While mid-morning in the Student Quarter of Aelyria Prime was often tranquil, today's events sent shock waves as classes began to let out earlier than usual to allow students to get to safety, in case some greater accident were to await them.

A few moments later, a crumpled figure wearing what appeared to be heavily-burnt purple instructor robes of the Academy of Magic Sciences, came waddling out seemingly unaware of his own state and condition. His balding head of grey hair had been burnt to a crisp, and his white beard had been mostly devoured by the flame. A single broken rod of wood, radiating uncontrolled rays of green light, appeared to have sputtered out and would likely be useless.

After a brief interview, the Vigiles determined that the spellcaster was Master Uzar, a Professor from the AMS. They gave him some water and started to treat his wounds, when he quickly became uncooperative and turned to the small crowd beginning to gather.

"L-let m-me through," he stammered, "you don't understand. I did it. It was an horrific fizzle, but I did it. It can be done. We can cast spells... the Aethergem was only a filter... let me through!" He turned towards your direction for help. It was obvious the mage was still in shock.

Master Uzar

Something was not right people were running around, seemingly without any sence of direction. Altar was about to ask somebody about what has happened but then he saw a column of black greasy smoke rising from the student quarter. Altar quickly spurred his horse into canter at the same time shouting at the people to get away from his path.

It took him what seemed like ages to get to the sciene of accident but as he got the he was mometaly shocked at what he saw. The tower of Academy of Magic Sciences totaly colapsed on itself and there were many students running around probably because the lessons were canceled. As Altar was dismounting he noticed a man sumbled out of the AMS. He was completely burned and was hardly able to walk. Altar quickly runed to the man and helped him to the waiting medics so that his woonds would be treated.

As Altar was whaching to the man's well being the man started mubling something about the magic and tried to stand up but was restrained by the medics. As he turned towards Altar, with what seemed like plea for help Altar tried to calm down the profeesor. "Everything is alright you will be alright in no time just calm down"

[Tlakk'Arakkx]

Seeing the smoke in the air Tlakk started heading towards the area where it came from, he chuckled 'stupid mamals' he thought 'always they have some trouble or another, well lets see what has caused this then'. When he came closer to the accident he began to suspect that there was more happening here then he had suspected in the first place. When he finally came on the site f the accident he let out a loud hiss and started running towards the man that tried to get away.

"Sssir! What did you do? And what abouts tshe Aethergem only being a filter? Did you cassst a ssspell? Is that what syou mean? Pleassse tell me! If you cassst a ssspell pleassse tell me, its isss very important to me!" He told the proffessor as soon as he reached him while he thought 'The old shaman from my clan must have been right, the Aethergem WAS created by a mortal! But is something like that possible to happen again?' He walked around the man so his back was facing the fire while he spoke, hoping it might clear his head a bit.

[Eltharion Thalandor]

The billowing smoke catches my attention immediately. I furrow my brows in confusion for a second, wondering what could have caused the smoke.

Could it be a fire? Or perhaps an explosion? Regardless, this doesn't seem to be a very common sight - it might do well for me to look into it...

It didn't take long for me to get to the site - thank goodness it wasn't too far away. Still, the short distance did not leave me in a very good mood. I am, without a doubt, exhausted - not in the best of shape, moving quickly certainly is not my forte.

My heart is beating rapidly - I could almost imagine it exploding under the strain. It would be an interesting, albeit unpleasant sight - my whole chest cavity exploding due to the strain. Of course, such an event is unlikely to the level of absurdity. However, the horridly uncomfortable feeling of Aelyria's humidity was certainly quite, quite real...

I looked around, recognizing the building as the Library of Magic.

An explosion? Here? At the Bibliotheke Arkanos? Sabotage perhaps? Surely it can't be the effects of a magical experiment?

The slight commotion drew my attention to the small but gathering crowd gathering around what seems to be the shell-shocked survivor. My curiosity dominated my desires, and I slid quietly into the crowd, straining my ears to find out what happened.

The babbling of the Professor was incoherent ... but interesting. Spells, the Aethergem - it is obvious that man had unravelled many arcane mysteries, and the reawakening of magic is neigh. Truly, a genius.

The only question is, how much longer before the powers of magic will be available to commoners like me?

Two creatures - one elven, one ... lizardlike seemed to be the leaders in the crowd. I moved closer into the crowd, muttering muted apologies to those that I pushed aside as I moved towards the leaders. After all, theres always a chance that I might learn something more ... interesting ...

[Wolf]

Corporal Wolf, acting on behalf of the Prime Garrison, walked into the scene of the wreckage, frowning. Her dog Biter walked next to her, and didn't seem to like the smell of the smoke. She stood still for a moment, trying to find the source and then saw the old man, surrounded by civillians. His robe indicated that he was a member of the AMS. She walked over to him, through the crowd and said, "Sir, I'm Corporal Wolf from the garrison. Can you tell me what happened here?" He didn't seem entirely coherent. Taking out her water skin she offered him some water.

[Sero]

Sero followed Corporal Wolf closely behind, surveying the scene around them...

Speaking to the Corporal, Sero said..
"Private Sero reporting!"

[Wolf]

"Good, Sero." Wolf said, turning to the private. "I'd like you to scan the wreckage and see if you can find any injured people or any thing that might aid us in our investigation. Concentrate on casualties though - that is our most pressing concern." Having given Private Sero his orders she turned back to the man in the mangled robe..

[Sero]

"Yes sir !", said Sero after receiving the Corporal's orders

He then turned and headed towards the huge piles of rubble, looking around to see if he could see any people immediately near the top, and then went and searched deeper for survivors....
