He was now becoming very concerned that Ra'anan was going to be to scarred by her past experience to take on this task again... It was understandable for the poor girl and he certainly recognised that it might simply have been unfair for him to ask her to come along, but reminded himself that it was in fact her that ask him to come along and placed a hand on her shoulder. "When the time comes, we will face her together." He whispered reassuringly. "You have my promise, but if you do not feel up to facing her, then that's OK, you have nothing to prove." His words were meant in kindness and honesty and if she did indeed take up the offer to step back, Annael would not take the slightest offence... though would need to re-think his battle-plan.

Whatever her response, he felt no desire to go poking around in the remains of the people in the clearing. Just the thought if it turned his stomach and he was more then happy to simply attempt to pick-up the fresh trail leading out of the clearing in what he hoped to be the direction of the Mage, however he must ensure he was not leaving trouble behind.

The scene was unspeakable, somehow words like "grim" or "disgusting" didn't even begin to describe what he saw here. Annael didn't actually dislike Necromancy as a practice, but murder to get there was another matter all together. He avoided going directly into the clearing at first, until he was a little more certain they were not being watched, entering Clara and taking a look over at the 'dead' bodies for any signs of magic and checking to see if the fire that was burning brightly was in danger of spreading further then it already had and perhaps starting a forest fire?

If the fire looked like it needed quenching to prevent it spreading, then he would venture in to do so, ever so carefully, unless he saw reason not to in the form of magic or prying eyes. Otherwise, or after, he would look to pick-up the unpleasant trail left by the Necromancer.

"This time I decided to do something... useful..." smiled Diamea, deep down she was feeling happy to do something useful... she filled the papers and handed them back to Fiona; then she took back the crows and smiled "Thank you..." she smiled, she had learned something usefull and at the same time had taken a step forward for something...

Annael's reassuring words didn't have any visible impact on Ra'anan, other than she made a very short nod of her head, and murmured: "No, I-I... Have to." She took a deep breath and let tears flow out of her eyes: "Gods, the carnage... She-" exhaling deeply, she regained her composure, and said more confidently, wiping the tears off of her eyes: "Let's hunt this witch."

The rotten carcasses still had a bit of Death Contamination on them, though the fresher odds and ends scattered around weren't. Annael did well to put out the fire, since it could spread out to the forest, given its intensity and absence of a stone circle to keep the embers from spreading the fire. It took him a bit to put out all the fires, even with Ra'anan's help, given how dry was the grass, but eventually they were ready to follow down the trail of blood that entered the forest.

Venturing deeper into the forest, the trail moved round and around, twisting and turning as if some unseen obstacles were being avoided. The smell of Death was everywhere, and in Clara, Annael would clearly sense it. It had been a while since the undead convoy had traversed that neck of the woods, but their foul mark was still strong. The path seemed to go on even deeper, into the opposite side of the woods...

The time invested to put out the fire was a necessary delay. Better they prevent the entire forest from burning down then save it from a necromancer only to find it gone. He was working as quickly as he could, not only to get moving sooner but to get out of this horrid mess left behind by the despicable practitioner they chased. The remains were disturbing beyond description, but there was no time for them to dwell now, there would be plenty of time for that... in their nightmares.

Necromancy was illegal... of course. But Annael had always thought that the idea that it was in fact evil to be an odd suggestion. Much like a sward, that can be used for good or evil, it is the person behind it that you must oppose, not the sward itself. Perhaps he was naive and a fool for such musings, but whatever the case, there was little doubting the nature of this individual.

He followed the trail left behind by the Necromancer. They needed to make up time and so he made an effort to move more swiftly without simply crashing through the undergrowth like a rhino. He'd normally be checking for traps, but he did not think this necromancer was to concerned about being followed by the looks of the trail she left. None the less, he avoided following in her path and moved along beside it instead just in case any traps had been laid in wait beneath the trample. All the time he did his best to keep his eyes sharp and his awareness open, an ambush would be the last thing they needed. In fact, there was something he could do to help with this.

As they made their way forward, he gestured for Ra'anan to pause by holding up a hand just for a moment. He crouched and collected the Mana he needed for a simple spell to enhance his hearing. Mixing a single Vis with the Nature Ara around him, he then began to shape the hearing spell he had used many time before. He hoped it would perhaps give him just that little edge, just to hear what he cannot see a little sooner... It could mean nothing... It could mean the difference between life and death.

Successful or not, he would then proceed, hoping to find but not bump into their pray, following as far as it took to catch up with the Necromancer.

By staying off the trail, Annael would theoretically keep away from traps laid by Necromancer, if she bothered to do anything of the sort. But sometimes, the best traps were the one that were just lying around, away from sight. There was a reason why the path was twisting and turning around in the forest, apparently weaving around a path around some unseen hazards. Because they were weaving around unseen hazards. As he started casting his hearing spell, his acute hearing would pick up something indeed. Below them. Before he could react, something burst out of the softer ground below them. A giant mole had emerged, feeling the disturbance over its lair, Death clearly having a grasp on it. Blind as it was, the mole was sniffing around, and turning its head, using its other senses to find its prey, its claws, covered in dried blood anxious to strike and rend flesh...

Theory was a great thing, so often proven wrong in practice, but it was only in practice that one could truly improve. Annael's instinct was to leap back, or to call out a warning to Ra'anan, but the creature was blind and it's only remaining senses searching for anything to attack. It is in moments like these that instinct and reaction collide that can make the difference between life and death.

He froze, just for a moment as he un-tucked his pack from over his head and off his shoulder, staff in his other hand and threw it with the intention of landing it beside the beast as a distraction to turn it to expose it's head from the side, hopefully getting around those large claws. There were allot of if's now, but should his distraction work and the beast be turned toward it, Annael would take this opportunity to bring his staff down heavily and at full length on the creatures head. It would be nice to say that he used everything he had learned over the past few days, passing the staff through his hands smoothly, bearing his weight into the blow, planting his feet, but the truth of the matter was, there was no time to think of such processes. He move from what reflex he had from the many repeated strikes in practice, leaning into the blow as much as his strength and balance would allow. The one thing he was thinking as he struck was... *Hit THROUGH your target, not TOO it!*

The distraction proved effective, but for a short while: when Annael made his move, the mole did not only hear him, but also smelled him, and pushed him back at the last second with one of it's large paws. The descending staff still managed to hit something, the paw used to push him back, preventing it from pressing its attack. Meanwhile, Ra'anan got on her feet, and she too wielded her staff against the giant mole. As it moved back from being struck by Annael, she moved in and hit the beast's side, but only to be struck back by it, pushing her back. The mole's nuzzle moved furiously, trying to sniff out the threats, its earth shredding claws ready to swipe again, this time to rend flesh and break bone...

This thing was truly massive and getting anywhere near those claws was not on the agenda. Their only advantage right now was that there were two of them. The issue was, Annael had no idea how one killed a giant Necromanced mole. Was it undead? It certainly looked like it should be dead, so would any of their attacks be effective? Normally he would buy time to cast a spell or calm the creature, but he had no idea if this abomination would even fall within the remit of his Nature Magic any more and so rather then risking this, he decided to fight on... but fight smart.

His plan was to flank it. He was going to create the distraction, so that his far more skilled mentor could get in the choice hits... it was a great plan... not even the slightest bit likely to get him killed... or so he would have told himself.

Moving backward and swinging his staff with each step, gaining power from his hips as he did so, he tried to keep the creature's attention while not getting mauled to death by it's claws. As he did this he shouted out to Ra'anan. "Flank it!" If nothing else, two target was better then one.

If he could Annael would attempt to lure the monster toward a tree, backing up to it if he could in the hope of coaxing the blind giant into an attack so that Annael could use the tree to both brace his staff against and obscure himself as he ducked out of the way, impaling the monster... it was a nice plan, but as the adrenaline coursed through his veins, all he could do for the time being was concentrate of keeping it at bay and hope the ploy worked.

Once again, Annael distracted the creature, moving around and making enough noise to capture the mole's attention. It immediately lashed out, its claw hitting the Elf's staff with great force. He could feel the wood bend almost to the point of breaking, yet he'd still have it in one piece after the impact. Ra'anan made her move in the meantime, taking yet another swipe at the mole's side, who turned around and smacked her back, making her hit a tree and lose consciousness immediately. Following the thump her limp body made, the mole got ready to finish her off...

Under "Not going well" in the dictionary, might be a picture of this scene right now. Deciding that he had no time, or confidence that his magic would have any affect on the undead... thing, he would not wast the time trying to cast a spell and his staff proving utterly ineffective, he threw it away, far enough to avoid simply attracting the creature's attention once again, and moved forward, reaching to his quiver for two arrows which he wielded like daggers with enough of the shaft pointing down out from his fists to sink deep into the creature.

He jumped with all his might with the aim of sinking one arrow-head into each eye and the monster turned it's back on him. Deep into the head and, he hoped, brain, he would ride the damn thing to it's oblivion. What little he thought he knew of such things including taking off the head or destroying the brain... was that even RELEVANT right now? Who knew? Annael was not even sure if this was even remotely true, but he would not let Ra'anan die at the claws of this beast without first going down fighting himself.

Distracting the creature, who's undead nature didn't allow it much intelligence, Annael was able to pounce on it and pierce the beast's eyes with his arrows, reaching the brain. The beast thrashed about and with its claw hit the Elf off of its nuzzle, screeching in pain. Hitting the floor, Annael would feel the air escaping his lungs, and a distinct cracking noise coming from his ribcage. A searing pain cralwed up his nerves, and though it would feel like he had broken bones, he had just cracked a couple ribs, not broken them all the way through. The mole's claws also didn't puncture him, mainly due to the fact that the creature forfeited its will to kill in benefit of its will to "survive" (since it was clearly unliving), though it was for naught. Annael had got lucky, and pushed the arrows so deep into the beast's eye sockets that its brain couldn't command the body any longer, and the beast fell. That's another point where Annael got lucky: it wasn't the whole body being controlled like a puppet, but rather an animation relying on the brain.

Though it hurt to breathe, and he was clearly bruised on his chest and back, Annael was alive, and able to move. Ra'anan was a bit worse: her breathing was shallower, and her bruising was more extensive. His Healing training would allow him to know she didn't have any internal bleeding, yet she needed medical attention. Fighting off the Necromancer in their current state would be unadvised.

He landed, doing his best to do so without being crushed by the creature, with a painful thump. He held his ribs and made to stand and fight once more, but the creature had fallen silent. Slumping like the dead carcase it already had appear to be.

He slumped back down for a moment, not having even been able to get to his knees yet. It hurt to breath, but he knew all to well that damaged and even broken ribs was not something a conventional Healer could do much for, so he took the time only to discern that he had not punctured a lunge and that the two of them were in fact now alone and not in any further obvious and immediate danger.

There was another word you could put a picture of their current situation next to... "Unadvised."

Annael moved over to Ra'anan, doing his best to take shallow breaths, though he knew all to well there was going to be next to nothing he did for the next couple of days that he could do that would not involve a little bit of pain.

Ra'anan's condition was far more important right now. His ribs were a worthy price to have paid as far has he was concerned and checking that she was not going to die in the next few moments, he would move to retrieve what might be left of his pack, which had his rudimentary, but effective first aid supplies inThis is basically just clean clothes, medicinal alcohol, thread, needle, nothing fancy. If that's OK?... that is if it had not been torn to shreds by the creature.

With or without these supplies, they could not stay here for long, so he set about checking over Ra'anan. Broken bones, frost-bight, cuts, grazes and bruises were all things he became quite well versed in dealing with during the Long Winter and so he hoped this would not prove to be anything more serious then just this. Sadly however, they're was only so much he could tell from an uncontentious patient, but set would check for swelling and responsiveness (using pain response if necessary) to try to establish the extent of her injuries. All of which he would do while moving her core (spine) as little as possible for now.

His Nature Healing could do a good job of getting her back into shape, but only if he ensured she was in a good position to heal. He magic would accelerate the natural healing process, but not miraculously correct broken bones and so he would need to set anything that had broken before he healed here at all.

If she did not wake, he would take this chance to check for said injuries, he would have to set any broken bones before casting his healing magic, but he would not do even that till he knew as much about her condition as he could.

(OOC: Supplies are reasonable, not an issue.)

Annael was able to see that his companion, though not in risk of dying, was in way worse shape: she had three broken ribs, which gladly hadn't punctured anything since there was no internal bleeding, her left arm was cut deeply from having brazed on a thick branch as she hit the tree, and her right shoulder was dislocated. Furthermore, she had her left knee swollen, from dropping on it too hard when she slid down the tree, and the clothes on her back were pretty torn, though her back was not cut, it was still bruised. She collided with the tree with plenty of force, after all. The back of her head was bleeding, a nasty cut visible even under her hair. The Ranger's skull, luckily, was not broken.

She was pretty banged up, and even with Annael's magical and physical treatment, she'd take a while to recover. After his treatment, she was stable, but still uncounscious. Natural Healing, though it accelerated the healing processes, it was far from instant, and both of them would need a good amount of rest before giving their enterprise another try.

It was no bad thing she was not awake for this.

Annael got out the medical alcohol and cleaned the deep wound. It was true that his magic could probably purify the deep cut, but he believed firmly in doing what one can with what one had and this meant he could focus on the actual healing itself.

He pressed the open wound together on her arm and cast his first healing spell to give it a head-start. He had used this spell on animals and people alike many times and knew all to well that it would take time to do it's work, accelerating the healing process considerably, but still only over a period of time. Regardless, it should at least stop the bleeding for now and he wrapped it up to keep it closed and protected as he focused the healing energies into the cut.

Next the shoulder... now, the head, cleaning it first. Ribs? There was nothing he could do for the ribs. Strapping her up serves only the restrain her already shallow breathing ,they would simply take time, though a little less with his help.

By his estimations he had one more full spell in himI think I have something like 5 Vis now? Due to the Lvl1 Hearing Spell and Lvl2 Healign spell. and he could either use it on her of himself... head injuries were funny things. A person could take a nasty knock, get up, walk around for the day then fall over dead the next. No... that was not worth the risk. He cast his last Joyrneyman level spell into her wound on her arm, as it was grave. This spell he would get comfortable for and cast slowly over a candle-mark, listening for disturbances around them should there be any and doing his best to ignore the stench of the dead creature just a matter of feet from where they were. Moving her before he ribs had healed at all risked doing ver seriose harm to her lungs and so he did his best to get the most out of his spell.

Today was no going to be a day for further combat. Today was going to be one to count one self lucky to still be alive and so he would wait a while for her to wake. If she did not, then he would have to come-up with another solution... they could not sleep here for the night.
