The Drunken Dolphin Tavern and Inn

Set in a corner of the Mercantile District, the Drunken Dolphin Tavern and Inn caters to the patrons who loved dancing, quality eating and drinking. It is open in the day and in the night.

A man called Petra Deanne set the Drunken Dolphin Tavern and Inn up. Petra Deanne was formerly a ship captain; he had sailed to Narim and finding that he liked the atmosphere in Narim, decided that he would retire here in Narim. However, he felt that Narim lacked a place that offers music and drink. So he set up the Drunken Dolphin to satisfy this need. Petra Deanne also became the bartender of the tavern in order to pursue his interest in mixing drinks and so you will see him when you approach the barkeep.

The Drunken Dolphin Tavern is a three storey high building built of stone and wood, with measurements of 100 feet length and 50 feet wide. The foundation and walls of the first storey are made of granite stone, while the roof, the whole second and third storey wall are made up of wood. A lot of windows with wooden shutters were also built into the upper wall. While windows can be only be found on the back and front on the first storey. The wood and windows can make the interior of the tavern cooler. A large door made of solid oak wood measured 12 feet by 6 feet covered the doorway to the tavern and it was open most of the time. A sign hanged on two wooden poles protruding straight out above the doorway. The sign has an imitation of a dolphin lying on its back to show that it is drunk and the words, ¡§The Drunken Dolphin Tavern¡¨ underneath the picture.

The second and third floor is the where the Inn is. All the rooms are ready for people to sleep. The bed sheets are clean and the beds are free of bed lice. If room service is needed, a pull of a rope will ring a bell and service will be there.

The tavern presented another scenario. As a place of dancing and drink, you can hear music coming out of the tavern even outside the doorway. Entering the tavern, you will see that the music is being played by a group of four musicians sitting by the doorway. Musicians are always present day and night to provide entertainment. Sometimes dancing girls will dance to the music at night to provide even more entertainment. You will expect trouble to come from that kind of situations but surprisingly, it does not happens often. This can be attributed to a group of bouncers always present day and night. As a further precaution, patrons are asked to remove their weapons at the doorway. A space in the middle with tables and chairs around was where the dancing floor is. At night, that space will be filled with people dancing while the tables will be filled with people drinking. If the tables are not enough, the barkeep has plenty of places for people to drink. Waiters are always around to serve people and take their orders.

On each table is a notice. The notice says:

Put up a hand for service and a waiter or a waitress will be with you shortly. For drinks and food available, please ask the waiter or waitress as the menu changes daily.

But before you can get to the tavern or inn, you will need to pass through a reception table. An elf male looked to be in his young adult years greeted you from behind the table.

¡§Serale. If you are for the tavern, please go through the doorway before you. If you are here for the inn, please register here by writing your name.¡¨ The elf smiled, pushed a book to the front and waited for your response.

It had been a very long time and Stephan needed a break, or actually a strong drink. Finally finding a tavern Stephan was amazed by the enormity of the place. He had been in dozens of taverns all around the Allerian Empire, but this place was definately different from all of them.

"The Drunken Dolphin Tavern," he laughed, "What an inviting name." Smiling he entered the building and at his own pace made his way to the front desk. Stephan always liked elves and he was always curtious, so he replied, "Serale, I'd be honored to sign the registration book." Giving a slight laugh he shrugged and then signed his name as neatly as he could. He then pushed the book back and nodded, "There ya go, have a nice night."

Going through the doorway straight ahead, he headed for the tavern. Seeing within the room as he approached, he noticed the place was quite full, he was sure it was like this every night. Stepping through the doorway to the tavern he was stopped as politely by a bouncer as they could and respectively removed his sword, which was in its sheath. "Do I give it to you or where should I put it?" he said and then did as they ordered.

Stephan while talking to the bouncers had problems staying focused as he noticed many girls dancing. When able to enter he did, and moved to a corner of the room, since all tables were taken, and watched the girls do their mesmerizing dance.

Wondering how to get a drink he looked around for a waiter, he had not been able to read the signs on the table because he wasn't sitting at one, and he really needed a drink.

A hobbit waiter by the name of Ferdiband Headstrong noticed a human male (Stephen) was standing by the side of the tavern. It was the duty of waiter of waitress to serve customers and to help them to be comfortable, and Ferdiband takes these duties seriously. So Ferdiband went up to the Stephan to ask whether he needed a table.

"Serale, good sir. I see that you are standing. Do you need a seat?" Ferdiband asked politely. Of course, Stephan might prefer to stand but it was the duty of Ferdiband to ask.

Stephan had not stood there for long at all when a hobbit came up to him. Not seeing him at first the hobbit then caught his attention, and Stephan had barely heard what he said. Smiling he replied, "No thank you sir, I don't mind standing. However, I would like a strong drink, what do ya got?"

After asking the hobbit Stephan took a look around the room, he wondered if there was anyone in the room he had not noticed yet, or if any ladies had noticed him. With a smile he looked back down at the hobbit, and awaited his response.

Ferdiband listened carefully to what Stephan said, listening patiently to what the customer wants is a skill that all waiter should have.

"So you'll be standing. Well, each to his own." Ferdiband said and took out a long and thin hand written menu which was put at the hobbit's back pocket. "Well, if it is a drink that you want, we have it. First, for ale, we have King's Ale. This is premium ale that came from the vast fields of Candaceburg. If that is not you want we have Keethco Ale, a strong brew of ale that hails from the great land of Riparia. Or if you want stronger ale, we have true authentic Zerdargian Ale. Last but not least, we have our own ale brew by the tavern owner himself, the Master's Ale. The owner had learn this from a brew master in Zerdargian and the ale is quite excellence if I may say so. Or if you want wine, we have..."

Like many hobbits, Ferdiband liked to hear their own voice and Stephan would have gotten impatient if not for a woman that he saw. The human woman has an oval face, blond hair, great big eyes and thin lips. But what make her more unique was that she was wearing a uniform. The emblem of Sheria with the word "Narim" was sewn under the emblem was on the left pocket. She was alone at a table and was enjoying the dance by the dancing girls.

"....and of course, we have Charismean Wine. Both the red and white forms are available." Ferdiband ending his introduction of the drinks and gave out a breath before he go on. "So what do you want?"

Stephan listened to all the choices of ale available, he had tried some of them before so he would as always, go with the house ale. But as the hobbit continued on with wines Stephan noticed the woman in uniform, who was sitting alone. She was quite beautiful, in her own way, but he did not know what uniform she was wearing.

Smiling he remembered that the hobbit was still there and he had not even ordered yet. "I'll take the house ale, the Master's Ale, and thats it."

Just as the hobbit was about to leave, Stephan came up with one great idea. He had used it before, so why not now? "Wait, waiter!" Hoping he got the hobbits attention he smiled and pointed in the direction of the lady, "You see that woman over there sitting at the table alone. Take a glass of red Charismean Wine over to her, and tell her its on me."

" Ah, Master'a Ale. It is a fine choice." Ferdiband said and walked off to get the order. But before he could any further, he was called back by Stephan. "Charismean Wine for that lady? No problem!" Ferdiband said excitedly. Ferdiband had taken part in such activities before. The sending of a glass of wine or a bouquet of roses was the norm and this seemed no different.

Ferdiband went to the barkeep and took a glass of Charismean wine to the lady first.

"Serale there lady. The gentleman over there had sent this glass of Charismean Wine as a compliment." Ferdiband said and served the glass of wine to the lady. The "gentleman" that Ferdiband refered to was Stephan and Ferdiband pointed him out to the lady.

The lady was surprised and she took the glass of wine. Taking the glass of wine up, she gave small nod of the head and smiled at Stephan to express her delight in receiving the wine. But that was that, she went back watching the dancing girls after putting the glass of wine back on the table.

By this time, Ferdiband had come with Stephan's order.

"Do you have any other orders, sir?" Ferdiband asked politely.

Stephan watched as the hobbit had gone and got a glass of wine and taken it over to the lady like he asked. Getting the smile and nod from her he knew he would, he was sure that he would also get an invite over. But, that did not happen, and as she turned Stephan scratched is head. He was quite confused; this had never happened to him before.

'Now what do I do, did I get rejected?' he thought as the hobbit had returned with his ale. "Uh... no, how much do I owe ya?" he said as he took the ale and took a big swig. Swallowing it all right away he had to shake off the extreme amount of alcohol he had just taken in, and he coughed. "Damn thats strong," he said.

He had never really taken his eyes off the woman, but slowly the more beautiful dancing girls had pulled his eyes from her. Stephan was still confused, he had never remembered being rejected before, and it drove him absolutely crazy inside.

Ferdiband could see that Stephan was distressed that the lady did not invite him over, but there was only so much Ferdiband could do.

"The tankard of ale is 5 crowns while the glass of wine is 6 crowns. So in total, you will need to pay 11 crowns." Ferdiband said in a professional voice, or so he hoped. It was at this time that the dancing girls had finished their dance and cleared the dancing floor. The dancing floor was now clear for patrons to dance on now. The musicians paused for a while and then played some dancing music to create atmosphere for patrons to dance.

The lady sat back and looked on as other patrons go onto the floor to dance. From the look in her eyes, she wanted to dance but no one had asked her yet. Ferdiband on seeing this went up to Stephan.

"Sir, if you ready want to know the lady, you need to take some initiatives like asking her to dance." Ferdiband said and was going to say some more but a patron was waving to him for service. "Well, it's up yo you." And Ferdiband went to serve another patron.

After handing the hobbit 20 crowns he nodded and took a sip, "Wow, give me compliments to the bartender, this ale is great. Keep the extra crowns as a tip." Just about at the same time the music had stopped and unfortunately the dancing ladies left the dance floor. Watching them walk away Stephan took another sip of his ale.

Just about then the hobbit came back over to give him! advice. Looking at the hobbit, Stephan laughed, "Thank you for that important info sir." And then the hobbit was gone again and Stephan was alone. He looked at the woman once again to see her alone, maybe she would like to dance with him, but then he just realized that he can't dance!

Well, how could he not take this opportunity to dance with a beautiful woman. Taking another swing he then took another, "Well he goes nothing," he said softly and then began his approach. Stepping up to the table he smiled and then set his ale on the table. "Serale M'Lady, I hope you enjoyed that glass of wine," he said acknowledging the empty glass. "My name is Stephan Woulofen, and I can't think of anything more rewarding than you joining me in this dance," he said as he held his right hand out for her to take.

The woman furrowed her eye brows as she considered Stephan's invitation. Finally, she relaxed her face and looked up at Stephan.

"Erm, all right. I will dance with you." The woman said and stood up. "Oh, I forget my manners. My name is Arwan Worewind." Arwan said and smiled at Stephan.

OCC: how do they dance in the Allerian Empire? I mean is it like medieval dances? Never really thought about it before.

IC: Stephan allow not surprised was still happy that she had accepted his invitation. "Its nice to meet you Arwan," Stephan said as he led her out to the dance floor. 'Okay now I got her out here, now I better not make a fool out of myself' he said as he began to get worried. He had never made a fool out of himself before, but he also hadn't danced in so long.

As they got out on the dance floor Stephan first took a look around to see how the others were dancing. Bowing to her he rose with a smile and began to dance like the rest of the participants. 'Don't mess up, don't mess up' he thought.

OCC: Let take it that it is the Waltz, shall we?

IC: Arwan went out to the dance floor with Stephan for a dance. Arwan stretched her hand for Stephan to take, and Stephan did so. As they were dancing on the floor, Arwan noticed something.

"Hmm, you do not know how to dance is it?" Arwan asked as Stephan stepped on her toes for the fourth times.

Stephan had looked up and down from his feet to her face. He was trying the best that he could to dance right, but he had not danced in a long time, and never danced quite well. Looking up as she had finally said something Stephan blushed at the comment, he was quite embarrassed.

"I...I'm sorry, I am trying my best. I can dance, but as you can see not very well. I'll try better." Stephan was more embarrassed than he had ever been in his life. All his skills with women had just gone down the tube as he showed his poor dancing skills.

"I know it is my responsibility, but if you lead I am sure I can follow." Stephan smiled nervously, he was still embarrassed and knew he might had just blown all chances with this lady, he just hoped none other had seen him.

Arwan stopped the dance with Stephan by letting go of her hands from Stephan's hands. Looking at Stephan with a smile, she began to instruct Stephan how to dance.

"Well, you can start off by relaxing your shoulders. You looked like you are made of wood." Arwan said and laughed softly. "After you have relaxed your shoulders, just lightly grasped my hands." Then Arwan put her hand out for Stephan to grasp.
