The Flounder's Finn Tavern and Inn

Close to the more expensive residential area of Narim, and patron home to more of the well off population of the coastal city sat the esteemed Flounder's Finn. Its outside was made of the city's typical cold stone, dwarven architecture, but once entering the large wooden doors into the Finn, any thought of icy, and unfeeling surroundings is soon lost. The room was lit during the brightenings, by large windows on two of the four walls of the main common room, letting the shinning warmth of Narim’s light into the area… but by darkening the room was lit by the soft, warm, glow of a large a dancing hearth, and the shine of candles that adorned many flat spaces of the room. It gave the area a feeling of warmth and safety, that Altysa had hoped to bring to birth after the drastic and terrible events of the past… it had certainly worked.

The floor itself was a deep, rustic wood, that matched the chairs and tables that littered the common room, though with space enough for people to move around and stand comfortably in groups, and a large area by the fire to allow for those that wished to danced to the soft lilting music, played on harp or flute by a dark haired elven bard. The stone walls of the room were covered with ornate and expensive looking tapestries, and a small but brilliant brass chandelier hung from the tavern roof, giving the Finn an almost palace like feeling that was almost immediately swept away at the notice of a more rafter-like ceiling, on closer inspection. Wooden beams criss crossed this way and that below the raised roof that angled upwards and came to a point outside, just like any other building meant for this sort of activity was built.

Off towards the center of the back wall sits a good number of shelves behind a bar lined with seats and patrons alike. It was made of a rich cedar wood, polished and smoothed out to serve as a place for drinks to be served. The barstools that lined it were made of a deeper wood, sometimes supported here and there by metal that ended up weaving a design in the chair's back. Through a swinging door on the end that led behind this counter of sorts were shelves lined to the brim with different ales and wines, all for the sake of serving customers. There was even a wash station in the middle of it for the bartender to clean his hands on.

The head bartender was a stocky, middle aged dwarf with a red beard and red hair to match. He had bright hazel colored eyes that were full of warmth - just like any good bartender's should be. This man was the esteemed Duerias O'Mally, the best bartender this side of the Sea of Diana. Such a jovial, happy fellow - and always up to talk to his customers if they needed him to spare the time.

A staircase resides to one side that obviously leads to another level, and the area where the Inn’s rooms are spread; away from the bustle and noise of the main tavern, and if the rooms were anything like the detail of the common room, a visitors stay would certainly be a comfortable one. While any new coming patron befalls the entrancing structural design and decor in the Tavern's common room, a young Elven waitress speaks jovially to the left of the door as customary greeting to anyone who enters.

“Serale, and welcome to The Flounder's Finn! Are you just here for a drink, or perhaps a bit more?"

Kas Brightdelve is an upstanding Citizen
Timestamp - Winter, Year X of the Darkening, 5th Kalendryas, After the Arcana Institute and Gates.

The tavern that Kas had been given a voucher for was hardly difficult to find, thankfully. He had decided that he would spend at least a cycle in The Flounder's Finn. maybe slightly more depending on just how long he would be a student for. SOmehow, seeking out more permenant accomodation through the aedile seemed to be the cheaper alternative. However, that wasn't something that he particularly wanted to bother himself with at this moment in time if he could possibly help it. Instead, getting a decent amount of sleep for the night was the more important item on the Human man's mind. If he was to be starting his lessons the next brightening, then sleep was important.

With the thoughts of rest, relaxation, food and possibly even company in his mind, Kas stepped through the doors to The Flounder's Finn and glanced around at the interior of the building. One thing struck the mage upon seeing the contents of the room, it was very different to what the outside of the building portrayed. The outside had shown what seemed to be a cold, icy and unfeeling building. The inside was well-lit and seemed to give a feeling of safety and warmth. That's just what Kas wanted right now. The rustic wood was a nice touch in his mind and Kas noted there were plenty of chairs and tables around. There also seemed to be a bard, which was a nice touch.

As for the tapestries, these did not go unnoticed, though Kas decided that he would examine these a little later. He was a man who could enjoy art and culture with great ease, even though he hadn't come from a rich family himself. He noticed the bar and the barstools that accompanied it, just as he noticed the Dwarven man that was working on the bar. Soon enough, Kas heard the voice of the Elven woman that was just to the left of the door. He thought on what she asked and smile graced his lips. He couldn't help but wonder just what she meant by 'perhaps a bit more', though that was probably the five to six era's of no sexual contact trying to take over his mind.

"Serale. I've been given this voucher by a man named Aaron who works at the Andagias Arcana Institute. He told me that it would entitle me to a discount in terms of rooms and that I would need to prove I am the person on the voucher.". Kas put his hand into his pouch and promptly pulled out the Imperial Visa that was contained inside it, handing that over to the Elven woman too. "I would assume this is enough to prove who I am? I'd also be interested to know how much your meals will be for the cycle, what room types you have and how much they will be with the discount provided... however much that will be.".

Kas:

The Elven woman smiled brightly at Kas as he passed over the voucher and his visa to prove that he was indeed Kas Brightdelve. It was standard procedure, it seemed by now... Check the voucher, compare the names and make sure the signature was of one of the Andagias' receptionists. Of course, it all checked out and in a few moments she handed back the Visa to Kas and moved the voucher to her left for a moment's time, folding her hands back in front of her on the counter.

"Aye, that was sufficent. As for the discount, We knock off a flat fifth of the cost. The more common rooms we have, that contain a single bed each with a small desk, is usually five crowns. So, taking a fifth off of that, its four crowns. The normal rooms.. as some refer to them, has a single bed, a small desk and a table, and also include two free meals from the tavern. That's - per day, as long as you pay properly. The cost on that is usually 12 crowns, so it's.. Rubbish, basically nine crowns instead. The last room, which everyone has dubbed the 'Deluxe suite' comes with a hot bath and three meals, plus it's own fireplace. The bed happens to be a double.. and it's rather comfortable, I can tell you." The receptionist paused and giggled slightly, her cheeks turning a small shade of pink.
"Oh, and that is usually 25 crowns, but a fifth of that off and its down to 20 crowns. I must say, the discount doesn't seem like a lot, but when you add up the amount of days some of those classes seem to take.. Well, it gets better."

The atmosphere of the tavern danced a certain warm, kindled firelight across the wooden counter and the desk, giving the receptionist's skin a certain twinkle. A few patrons were carrying on and having a jolly good time in the background, their South eastern accents cutting through the music from the bard, sometimes coupled with laughter. The Flounder's Finn was definately a nice place to stay while in town, and popular too, it seemed.

Ahhhh, a nice double bed. That sounded exceptionally welcoming to the Human man. Kas noted the prices of the various rooms, but figured that the Deluxe Suite would be the best one. He liked having a fireplace in his room, along with a nice warm bath and the idea of having three meals a brightening included in the price made it even more appealing. Then, taking into account the discount that he had been given by the arcana institute, the price of the room was pretty damn good. Kas figured it wouldn't take him as long to learn Arcana as someone who had never even experimented with the magical arts, so around three months seemed reasonable.

Now, with that in mind, he quickly worked out that one cycle would cost him 200 crowns, and so one month would set him back 1,000 crowns. Even though some people would say this was expensive, paying for a room for three months would still be cheaper than buying a house, which was the other alternative that he had considered. Plus, if he needed to extend his stay, then Kas figured he'd probably just be able to add on an extra cycle or so. Just for the sake of it, Kas decided to add on an extra cycle anyway, so he figured that he'd probably be staying in the city of Narim for three months and one cycle. In his mind, that would come to a nice total of 3,200 crowns for a deluxe suite. He could afford that.

"Hmmmm, bearing in mind that I intend to re-learn my Sorcery all the way to the Master level, I think that I should probably book a room for just over three months. To be more specific, I would like to book a room for three months and one cycle. I'd also like it to be a deluxe room, that way I don't have to worry about paying extra for meals and baths.". Kas smiled a little and pulled out a small roll of notes from his pouch. He quickly placed seven notes for 500 crowns each on the desk, taking back his visa at the same time and putting it back into his pouch. He knew the room would only come to 3,100 and that he'd placed a total of 3,500 in front of the receptionist.

For a few moments, Kas glanced around the tavern at all the people and could only smile. The Flounder's Finn seemed to be a popular and pleasant place to stay, which pleased him greatley. If he was lucky, then maybe he'd be able to make some new friends here, but that would be something he'd just have to wait and see on. Soon enough, he turned back to the Elven receptionist with a slight smile still on his lips. "You can keep the change. Consider it a tip for being so helpful.". His smile widened a little and Kas had only a couple of questions left while he was waiting for his room key. "What time of the brightening are the meals taken? Are drinks included and, can they be taken in the room if need be?".

Brandishing a sleek, black quill with a silver tipped end, the elven woman opened up a book to her left and began to copy Kas' name off of the vouchers into the book. She also recorded how long he was going to stay, and that he'd paid.

When she realized he'd just tipped her four hundred crowns, her heart almost skipped a beat. Good-ness! How generous of such a nice fellow.

"Meals are whenever you please, good sir. Generally we hold breakfast in the early hours, starting around the sixth candlemark. Mid brightening begins the serving of the next meal, and close to candlemark seventeen or so, we begin to serve dinner meals. As long as you show up down here and make sure to tell your server who you are so she can doublecheck the logbook, all is well." Explained the Elven receptionist.

Of course, they had a system of logging down how many meals he'd been served that day, in a nice little forum drawn up by a very organized member of the staff.. But all Kas needed to know from the customer's prospective was that. It wasn't like most of them cared how things worked behind the scenes anyway.

Filing away the bank notes for safe keeping after making sure the amount was right, the woman smiled and glanced at her open logbook once more.
"Alright Mr. Brightdelve... Unless you have any other questions, I have you marked down for staying in Room 21C. If you take the stairs up to the second level, then head left instead of straight ahead, it should be towards the middle and on your right."

The woman's eyes glittered as she spoke. It was a nice room, a very nice room... Especially if one was going to be staying long. This human was a... well, nice fellow, not to mention not bad looking either. It wasn't going to be a nuisance for most of the Employees to make his stay hospitable. Thank the gods, most of the crazy people seemed to stay the longest and give the most trouble. She was glad that wasn't the case this time.

OoC: Feel free to create a thread for your room if you feel so inclined and want to, just remember to keep it in the parameters I listed.

As the elven woman explained when the meals were being served, Kas made a mental note. It all seemed fairly straightforward. Rosyun was anytime after the sixth candlemark, but before mid-brightening. Then the next meal was from mid-brightening to roughly the seventeenth candlemark. He also made a mental note that he would have to tell whomever was serving him who he was. That was understandable in all honesty. Afterall, they would need to check and see if he was entitled to meals or not. Thinking on what had been said, Kas realised it was quite likely that he would end up skipping Rosyun. It was a bad habit of his that he picked up from when he was a student in Zinn'Sunn.

Soon enough, the Elven woman was telling Kas exactly which room he would be staying in. He made a note of the number, figuring that it wasn't too hard to remember along with the other numbers that were currently in his mind. The directions to the room also seemed fairly straightforward. Stairs to the second level, left, in the middle on the right. Yep, that was pretty easy to remember. Kas was just somehow glad that he wasn't scatterbrained. Otherwise he would most likely be struggling to remember half of what he had just been told. That thought did make him smile slightly as a scatterbrained Sorcerer could be rather entertaining to watch.

True, they'd probably blow themselves up. But, it'd be interesting to see just how many pieces the mage would be able to blow themselves into, and what colour's they were. Still, now he knew where the room was, Kas saw no reason to stand around and distract the Elven receptionist even more than he currently was. "Alright. Thank you very much for your help. I guess I shall go and start to settle in a little now.". With that said, the Human man offered the Elven woman a slight bow and headed off towards the stairs and up them, following the directions he was given. Resting before eating sounded like a very good idea as far as he was concerned.

OOC: Will do if I ever need it... though i'll PM beforehand.

Timestamp: Winter, Year X of the Darkening, Kalendryas at some point (I haven't yet figured this part out) after the Gates.
Oh, and if I've botched this, PM me. Four months here, and this is the first timestamp I've ever done.

The tall barbarian wandered the streets of Narim for a long while after entering the city's gates. While he had been impressed by Vers, the first city he had ever seen, the bright colors and carnival atmosphere had offset him somewhat. Narim's stone Dwarven architecture, with its clearly-cut blocks and hard, angular beauty, was much more akin to what the mountain-born man had imagined a city to be like. The people, too, were closer to his original reckoning, garbed in colors that were quite muted compared to the colorful harlequin suits of Vers. He was much more comfortable here, his own dress not clearly marking him as an outsider; while his broad frame and tall stature turned some people's heads, it didn't seem as though they were looking with disgust on his gray knit woolen tunic, leather vest, buckskin breeches, and brown travelling cloak. And while the populace wasn't overly inviting, nor were they hostile or unfriendly either. He already felt quite at home within the Narimite walls.

The big man's sojourn took him to the wealthy area of the city, where the architecture was oldest and most fine. Finally, his parched throat began to remind him that he hadn't eaten or drunk all day, and when he went to take a swig from his limp waterskin, he found he was only able to squeeze out a few meager drops. At length he asked a passerby where the nearest tavern was, and the stranger pointed him in the direction of the Flounder's Finn.

The stonework facade of the building was as imposing as the rest of the city's buildings, and the timeworn gray blocks of stone reminded Jageth of the granite slopes that were his home. It must be a good omen - I'll give the place a try. He was equally heartened by the fact that there were no apparent brawls underway at this tavern, something he couldn't say for the first tavern he'd come to in Vers. And of course, I wasn't able to avoid getting myself into that fight, either! Still, that was all in the past. He smiled at the memory, and walked through the heavy oaken doors, noting that he didn't have to duck to feel comfortable. Bless this grandiose masonry - I could get used to this!

The big man gave the the elfwoman barmaid a grin at her merry greeting, the lightness of her tone warming him as much as the glow of the common room's great hearth. Ruefully he had a thought of the very first elfwoman he had ever met, and the trouble that had befallen him because of her. But that was one elfmaid, and this is another. And that maid could not have known what was to come. He shook the thoughts from his mind, determined to enjoy this new city and see it as another chapter in the story of his life, although the barbarian couldn't have put it thus. With a renewed smile, he answered the barmaid.

"Serale, m'lady. I'm just here for a bit of refreshment, and then rest, perhaps - if my moneybag allows." With a good-natured laugh, the big man jingled the drawstring pouch from its cord on its belt.

Jageth strode over to the bar and pulled out a stool, eyeing the finely shaped wood-and-metalworking that made up the seat's legs and back. Impressed, he sat down, folding his hands in front of him. Raising a finger, he said in his resonant bass, "Barkeep, I'll be having an ale, if you please. When you've got a chance." He leaned back on the stool, working a few of the kinks out of his back and relishing the chance to be sitting down. The room's decor was welcoming and extremely cheerful, and it put the barbarian into a good spirit. As much to stretch the muscles in his neck as to observe the room, the big man swiveled his head over one shoulder, then the other, looking keenly at the room's interior.

OoC: What sort of a night is the Finn having tonight? Are there many people? And did I get that timestamp right at all?

Jageth:

The night in the Flounder's Finn was pretty moderate and normal for a tavern of it's size. Not crowded, but not deserted either. A good amount of hearty laughter filled the air every now and then, as did high spirited tunes played by bards that were being featured that night.

It was good publicity for them due to how many patrons visited every now and again. They had stopped in from the sea, apparently, and decided to pick up their instruments they'd brought with them on their journies and play a bit, making a few crowns from the tavern that was paying them to provide such nice music.

The woman mearly nodded to Jageth as he said he might be getting a room later, but for now was just up to get a drink. Sure, that was fine. Their ales were always good, and their bartender always knew what he was talking about. What else could be expected, though, from a Dwarf? They were acclaimed to be the best race for ales and wines ever to grace the surface of Telath.

Durieas O'Mally grinned a toothy grin at the man as he announced his order and took a seat. The dwarven man was cleaning out a glass with a rag, and had since put it down to attend to Jageth.

"We got a'few of diff'nt Ales. Barrow's Haunt, Claymore, King's...Pers'nly I suggest a tankard o' Barrow's Haunt. Bit more than de others we got, but darn good if yeh ever asked a Dwarf's opinion." Responded the Barkeep, O'Mally. His red beard was neatly kept as was his hair, showing that even the bartender cared about his appearance in this Tavern. It wasn't a rundown place with shady figures like The Outhouse a few yards the other direction, thank Athernia.

Idly, Durieas finished cleaning and drying the mug he'd been working with while he waited for Jageth to respond from his lookings around the tavern.

OoC: The timestamp was fine. =)

The big man had swiveled his head back around as soon as O'Malley started talking. In a good mood, Jageth decided to take the barkeeper's advice. While he'd never encountered a Dwarf before, he had heard of their unsurpassed love and knowledge of two things: good stone and good drink. "Well, my good man, I can afford to treat myself on my first night in a new town, can't I? A tankard of Barrow's Haunt, it'll be, then!" He leaned back, in no hurry to do anything. As he had been looking about the room, he'd been thinking about what to do in this new place. His original plan was to find training with his sword, and perhaps look into other weapons. Now that he was thinking about it, though, it would behoove him to gain all the knowledge he possibly could, not just weapons training. The more I know, the better I'll be set to survive on my own.

He decided that the barkeep would probably know where to go for the things he was interested in. Addressing the stocky, bustling figure, he posed his first question. "You look like a fellow who knows his way around. Perhaps you could tell me where one would go in this city for weapon training?" The big man raised a hand to point to the bastard broadsword strapped to his back. "Steel doesn't do one a whole lot of good until one knows how to swing it, eh?" He leaned back on the stool, awaiting both ale and answer.

Jageth:

The dwarven bartender chuckled lightly at Jageth and nodded his big, red-haired head. This man knew what he was doing. Barrow's Haunt was a good ale, a good ale indeed!
"Right'o, Sir. A tankard of Barrow's Haunt comin' right up."

O'Mally went to fetch a tankard and then began to fill it up with the wonderful ale. He smiled briefly from beneath his curly red beard and replied..
"Aye Laddie, I don't know many people outside of Narim's military that train a person in weaponry. I know we've gut Narim's Technilogical institute in town yonder.. and some other sorts of trainin' things.. Like the Anda.. Ander.. Andi.. Andagais Arcana institute. Other than that though..." Duerias gave a half hearted shrug.
"Can't say I'd know what yeh could do.. Sorry laddie."

Finishing, Duerias passed Jageth his tankard of Ale and smiled once more. A good choice, this guy made. Too bad O'Mally couldn't help him out.. He felt a little bad about that, but then again, things like that happened when the town a person was in didn't necessarily train in weaponry for prices of crowns.

The Narimite government had this zaney idea that weapon training for Civilians meant an increased crime rate in the city.
Speculation, of course.. but who knew?

OoC: Oh no! I'm sorry for not having replied sooner! Truth be told, I forgot this thread... along with the rest of Alleria! How neglectful of me.

The big man was somewhat discouraged by the Dwarf's words, but shrugged it off. "Ah, well, a bit of roving never hurt anyone, did it? And there are other things I'd like to do while in town besides just weapons training." He paused to accept the mug from the barkeep, entranced by the ale's rich color. Lifting it to his lips, he took a short pull... which turned into a much longer one. The rich flavor of the fine ale danced across his tongue, playing all the way down his throat in a warm, delicious rush. He set the tankard back down with a solid thunk, and inhaled deeply. "Ye gods! Money well spent, that is. They don't brew it like that on the mountain!"

Straightening back up, he addressed the dwarf again. "All right, so I'll scratch that training for now. I've also been thinking about smithing, lately. Good weapons and the like, they're so blasted expensive; I've been thinking that perhaps I could learn the craft myself. Is there someplace here where I could perhaps look into that?" Stopping, he took another sip of the ale. By the Peaks, what a drink. I'll never be able to stand the stuff we used to get on the mountain again!

S'rillia Caladon is an upstanding Citizen
S'rillia walked into the tavern and gave balefull look around at the motly crew gathered there that day. She imidiatly moved to the nearest avalable table and sat down waiting for a waiter. "Hurry you fools." she said in an undertone to herself. She looked around again at the gathered patrons and saw nobody she knew so drew into herself and took out a book and began to read while she waited.

It had surely been a very long day, Stephan had just blown 100000 crowns in a very good investment, but all investments could go wrong. Plus, he hadn't told Archduke Kailfreet, there was no knowing how he would take the news. A good strong drink was needed, and immediately. Walking into the Flounder's Finn Stephan immediately walked over to the bar and took a seat, not noticing really looking at anyone else as he really didn't care.

Looking for the bartender Stephan couldn't help but to notice a few others were waiting for him too. Oh man, a busy night and the bartender was running behind. Could anything worse happen? Surely, knowing his luck that question was soon to be answered.

S'rillia took her eyes off her book long enough to look up at the man who had just enterd to tavern and wathced him until he sat down. "Another human." she said as she began to read again. Suddenly her head shot up and she began to stare at the man who had just walked in. "It is him," she said as she put her book down and got up "I am going to get you this time." she said as she walked up behind him "Yes serale there sir." S'rillia said sternly as she taped the man on the shoulder and waited for him to turn
