The Sailor's Haven (General Supply Shop)

With the sudden disappearance (or by Dracon standards, flight of) Tyreal the owner, the Government had stepped in on ‘Tyreal and Tulip’s’ and repossessed it to become a government – owned business. A little man was in charge of it now, whom happened to be quite elderly but loved to work in a social environment. It had been slightly remolded, with the intricately made windows all repaired and the wooden floors replaced. The door was made of a heavy cherry oak color, with a window in the center that had been frosted to appear translucent. On either side of it, windows bowed out like display cases, lining up some of the things that the shop now contained inside. Various things lined those windows each day, but usually they consisted of a few fishing poles and some camping gear, along with the occasional display of good-looking (for what they were) rations.

On the inside, the store's neatly polished wooden floors led to the front counter, which had been cleaned pretty nicely and set up in a more organize fashion. Ledgers were on one side, while the coinbox was under the counter, and complimentary sacks to put things in were on the right. A big wooden board had been pinned on the wall just before the storeroom's door that read:

The walls were lined with shelves of all sizes and sorts, holding the various items the new store had. Yes, at 'The Sailor's Haven', there were more things in stock besides just sea-faring folk's needs. They'd made sure to keep a good stock of items not only necessary for living in Narim, but also those that would be necessary for travelling around the province and off into other ventures. Whatever brought in the money, aye?

From time to time, a man could be seen restocking the various items, or sitting behind the counter. He was always around when the store was open though, and had been hired due to his love for conversation and being friendly. In old age, a person tends to take up jobs that give them the ability to be social, after all. The need for company gets high, especially when a person is alone.
He was short, by anyone’s standards, with big eyes that were only accented by his large bottle capped frames. They always set near the edge of his nose no matter what he did, and had the keen ability of acting like magnifying glasses. But still, it made him all the sweeter of an old shopkeeper. His name was Jonas Farling, a human that could be guessed to be at least in his eighties. Jonas looked to be the store's keeper and only employee, for the time being.. but that didn't bother him, nope! He always enjoyed conversing with the customers.

As a person enters, Jonas usually doesn't take notice. He's not realized that the tinkering of a silver bell above the door means that someone has entered the shop. So, unlike most shops in Narim, the customer has to get Jonas' attention.. instead of the clerk greeting them. An interesting turnabout, most people figured. Most people also liked Jonas, however. Lots of citizens came in regularily even if it was just to converse with him. On the rare occasion that Jonas did take notice of a customer though, he'd wait to see if they took notice of him! After all, he was kind of short.. and people had the keen ability to overlook him, the poor lad. Though, the elderly clerk could sometimes be heard humming to himself as he padded around the shop. It all depended on if the customer actually wanted to notice him or not.

OoC: Jonas Farling - Human - Age: 65 patterns.
Total description forthcoming.

Please note that the PC Ica is the primary clerk, and you should interact with HER instead of self moderating yourself through the shop. She has to do the job she's getting paid for, yanno.

The Months of Ioannes to Imperos in the Season of Summer, of Era I of the Celestine Mandate (Current Pattern)
Era X Post Fractum in the Age of the Darkening, the Mageocracy of Julos the Mad

Ica placed her hands against the cherry wood and knocked to see how thick the door actually was. Sure enough, the door was a solid wood. She flew up a little above the middle of the door and placing her hands on the soft wood, she pressed against the door. Determined to get the door opened, she held her 6" body out horizontil and with her wings buzzing she used all of her strength to get the door open. The door finally budged and ica tumbled in doing several summersaults in the air and then landing on the ground. "Hmph", she pouted while pushing herself up off of the cold wood floor. Ica twitched her wings to get up off of the floor. She whimpered when a sharp pain flew from her left wing. She had slightly sprain where her wings met her body. She was rather clumsy for being such a petite faery. Everything was ok though. Her wing would heal with time and there was no use crying over spilt milk.

She looked around for the manager or a clerk to come and assist her. There sitting at the front desk was an old man. Ica smiled. She found it to be absolutely adorable to see a man clearly in his 80's still working. Ica figured that the man probably couldn't hear her enter, so she decided she would go to him. She pulled back her long, currently orange hair back, and tucked it behind her tiny fae ears. She climbed the desk, occasionally using her left wing to give her a boost. After all, Ica didn't want to hurt her right wing anymore. She, almost at the top of the desk, pulled her chin up and then then her arms and pulled herself the the flat surface. Indeed it was rude to walk on a counter or desk, but she had no other choice.

She walked in front of the clerk noticing how nicely kept the store was. Ica smiled warmly. Ica was about 6 to 7 inches tall which was very tiny even for a faery. Her brilliant green eyes matched her shimmering wings. Her skin was milky white, but it somehow complimented her long curly hair, reaching to about the middle of her back. In a scared but sweet voice she said ", Excuse me Mr. Farling, but I long to go to school, but I cant due to shortage of money, I'm not sure how much it will cost, but I know I will need to save up. And as well as that, I need a way to buy my food, and another set of clothes," and then she pointed to her outfit. It was an off white chemise under a green bodice. Her skirt was gathered white and green lace ripped off at the knee's, revealing her green slippers. " I guess what I'm trying to say is that, I would like a job, and I would be willing to do anything! Just as long as I may get payed for it. Please sir", Ica said hopefully. Her legs suddenly got weak and her stomach leaped out of her stomach. Ica's throat grew dry and tight, in fear that she would be rejected this job. She pressed her lips together and smiled as politely as she could.

Indeed, Jonas failed to notice anyone coming inside his shop, and it did not help that his customer was only half a foot tall. The steady scratching of his quill on the parchment in front of him had put him in a sort of deep concentration as he carefully penned out his letters and numbers in a practiced hand, trying not to shake too badly. For as beautifully as anyone could write, being at such an old kept them at a disadvantage when it came to steady hands. It was something the old gentleman had adapted to after a while, though, and it troubled him minimally.

So, he was still writing when a small body appeared on his desk, and even then Jonas did not recognize the appearance of his customer, though not on purpose. Apparently he was writing out his latest taxes, something that was often quite tedious and boring and though the task did not give him any delectation, he was thoroughly engrossed with his work.

His eyes only jerked up when Ica's small voice broke the continuous scratching. Peering through his rather large glasses, magnifying her small frame for his old eyes, Jonas studied the fae for a moment before smiling kindly at her. The act caused the wrinkles in his face to multiply like bunnies, but he managed to look as grandfatherly as ever. He put down his quill and set aside his parchment with a quivering hand as he continued to listen to her speech to him. When she had finished, he said nothing, but putting a hand to the rim of his spectacles he inspected her and her clothing a bit closer. His face was unreadable and it was impossible to predict how he would react. It might have been a ploy to see how she would react to the pressure, or it could have been unintended.

With slow, steady words, Jonas began to speak. "Well, miss, I should like to know your name. I'd introduce myself, but it seems you already know my name." His smile was not unkind and his voice was quite pleasant and deep to listen to. It was something that gave a person comfort and they could easily fall asleep listening to the voice. He began again, looking her in the eye, "I should tell you that you would be the only other employee in this shop besides myself, but I might be able to use some help. What do you think you would be able to help me with and bring to this establishment? And why would you want to work here? Do you have any previous training in anything as well?" It was a simple question, meant to find out if she was the sort of person he wanted to hire. He also didn't seem to want to make her uncomfortable in any way, opting to keep things on a more friendly level.

Ica shivered. Wow, those questions brought back memories.. good memories...which brought along the bad. She saw the old man smile and suddenly felt a warm tingling feeling fluttering in her tummy. The kind of feeling when you get a new puppy or you receive a gift for no apparent reason. Jonas really was as sweet as the people had said. She sweetly smiled back in a nervous kind of way. She desperately needed the job. She giggled like a child and said, " My name Is Ica." Instantly after her tiny voice pitched out, she felt better and more relaxed. She tripped over her foot and fell onto the parchment the man was writing on. Her face bloomed red. She pushed herself up and continued speaking pretending nothing happened." I wouldn't mind being the only employee, I'm used to being alone", her head fell down for a moment at thought of her parents dying and leaving her alone." I heard that people come here to just converse and I would definitely love that. I could help you sale things, I'm great at convincing people to buy things. I'm also great at cleaning! As a matter of fact, I used to clean my aunts house for the joy of it. I guess I don't have any actual training, but I know plenty of the things I need to know." Ica smiled happily, and carried away in all the excitement welling up inside of her, she began to fly higher until she was at eye level with the man. She spun around and looked outside. " Also, I could bring advertisement here! I would love to help you sir! I really really would!". Her wing twitched, and she gasped with a whimper, hit the counter.

There she lay, she had hit her head on the counter and passed out. She lay, with one leg straight and the other bent up on top of it. Lying on her side, her arms were held out with her fingers barely lacing. Her head lay back on her softly shining curly hair. The milky skin complimented her pink lips and rosy cheeks. There the poor fae lay. Ah she was always knocking herself out. You could see her small body softly moving up and down. It was rather adorable, how she was excited and a moment later she lay asleep. Anyways there she lay. When She woke up, she would most likely feel ashamed. Her body twitched once more.

Steve walked through the streets of narim with his destination clear in mind. He was not alone, Celethor and S'Lon were with him. Another would be coming too. They were going to buy some supplies for their adventure to the wilderness, the quest to stop the horrid rain that had descended on Narim and splatted it with guts, decorated everything and made everything smell bad. But there was a lot of ground to be covered, and if they were going to be hunting the cause of this foul rain they would, as S'Lon had pointed out, need some supplies or they would have to hunt. Or starve. The latter didn't seem a very good idea at all, and Steve definately saw alot of sense in buying rations for the journey.

He reached the shop, Sailors Haven, which was now there instead of Tyreals. The government had repossesed the shop and it looked quite welcoming. He looked through the large windows at the items. There were fishing rods and camping gear, which he didn't really need. He susposed a fishing rod could prove useful. But there were also rations, which he and the others certainly did need. Steve opened the cherry oak door and stepped inside the store and onto the poshised wooden floor. He noticed the large board, but he already knew they had what he wanted. He walked up to the counter. "Serale." he said politely to the old human shopkeeper, who looked to be in his eighties.
"Could i have 3 days rations please." He didn't know how much they would be yet so he didn't get any money out. He stood to one side so that the others could make thier requests too

Celethor Tyran is an upstanding Citizen
OoC: Timestamp identical to Steve's.

IC: Celethor, Steve, S'Lon, and the new companion strode off to the Sailor's Haven, the new general shoppe now that Tyreal's had been repossessed. They were going to buy some supplies, and Celethor figured that was a good idea. They of course, wouldn't go out into the wilderness unprepared. That would be called stupidity. And, as Celethor had learned in his mountain days, it was better to have more than enough than too little. So he planned on being well prepared. Their quest was to discover what had happened with all the splattering guts everywhere. It was quite disgusting, the whole situation, and made Celethor's stomach contract. But he held back the regurgitation that kept attempting to come up, trying not to stare at the guts. It was possibly his only weakness, so he thought, but it was one doozy of a weakness.

Celethor looked into the windows of the Sailor's Haven and saw the fishing poles, which might be quite useful. Celethor hadn't ever really fished, but he thought he might try his hand at it someday. The camping gear looked nice, but all Celethor figured he needed was a bed roll. He was fine with just that unless it rained. And even if it rained, they could just go under a tree. Plus he didn't want a tent bringing him down at this point. Despite his great shape, due to running nearly everywhere he went and quite active lifestyle in the military, Celethor was still hesitant to load himself down too much. If he had a horse, perhaps he would be more generous with his buying...

But in any case, they had gone in the shoppe and Celethor recognized the keeper. He was a friendly old man who looked to be in his eighties. Celethor had met him before when Tyreal's had only just been repossessed. The keeper was quite friendly and very helpful. Steve asked for three days ration, and Celethor looked a him. He didn't know, but he had thought that it would take longer than three days. Perhaps he could lead the way and Steve would realize. It was a simple mistake... but one Steve might regret should the trip prove to be longer.

"Serale. Could I also ask for rations, but give me seven brightening's worth, will ya?" Celethor winked at Steve, hoping he would understand. "And could ya get me one of those fishing pole's I saw out there in the window? I'm thinking those might come in handy. And, last thing I promise. A bedroll would do very nicely, could you get me one of those?" Celethor stood and waited for the shoppe-keeper's reply. Celethor had little doubt he could supply him with what he needed.

Ica frowned. She wasn't noticed by either of the cutomers. She looked down at her feet and scuffled them. She knew she had to do something to get her this job. I could help . She suggested. What exactly do you need? I'm sure we have just about anything here. What are your plans for your trip? Ica forced out her voice so that they could hear her. Once she realized what she had done, her head fell down and her welcoming smile strightened. She looked up at the old man and she took a few steps to the side. Ica had ran in front of him. How shameful. Now she would definately lose her oppertunity of a job. Very shameful. She looked into the mans eyes and appoligised sympathetically. Im sorry sir. I did not mean to interupt. She held her head down once again and slowly walked away. Not too far of course. THere could still be a chance that Ica would get the job, but her interuption was not very impressive in her opion. She looked back at the customers and smiled...Why did she say that? What did Jonas feel about Ica's words?

The walk to the shop had not taken long but S'Lon had taken the opportunity to mentally run through his kit to see if there was anything that he was missing or should be replaced. In theory there should not be anything as he had recently spent a lot of crowns in this shop, or rather in the old version of this shop. On the other hand on that last visit the stock had been somewhat old and dust laden to say the least and it would be interesting to see if they had some new stock in and perhaps there would even be something of interest there.

Entering into the shop behind the man and the dracon, S'Lon had been taking a good look around. He had not been in the shop since it had officially changed hands and it had certainly changed a lot since his first visit, gone was the aura of neglect and decay and in its place the shop seemed, well… professional. Initially standing behind the other two, his view of the counter was blocked but the wooden floor was polished right up to the well laden shelves which were conspicuously free from dust. He was wandering closer to the left hand shelves to have a look at their contents when he heard Steve make his order and glancing back towards the now revealed counter he could see that Steve had left the door open as it were for their orders. He quickly gave it some thought; he might as well pick up fresh rations here and they would be out for how long… lets see… well at least one day but maybe two out, another two back and at least one or two days there would mean a minimum of six days, so six rations might be safe but on the other hand there would be time for some ration gathering as they went given the time of year and for a short trip it wouldn’t hurt if they were short rations for a while. As he mulled over the choice and realised that he should have considered it before he reached the store, he heard the Dracon give his order. He nodded at the order for rations and decided that it was about right.

“Serale, I’ll also take seven rations if you would be so kind”.

OOC: I'm ignoring you Ica because we are in a timestamp that predates your arrival

He realised that Celethor was probably right, and it wouldn't really matter if they did have more then they needed, except it would weigh slightly more. It would take more then three brightenings to discover the problem and end the horrible rains that were troubling Narim, maybe even more then seven. "Make that seven days rations then." he said to the old shopkeeper. He didn't need anything else, he had a travelling kit with all that he'd need, and they probably wouldn't need more then one fishing rod. If they did, someone else could buy it. He turned to Celethor."thanks for the advice, friend." He didn't find it difficult to admit he was wrong, and it was foolish of him to assume they would find the problem, and find a solution, so quickly. be nice if we could he thought. Everyone makes mistakes, he reminded himself. Steve waited for a price on the rations, which would be the same for all of them now.

OoC: I'll tend ta yeh. Sorry for wait. Steve et all -- am I right to assume this is an extension of Zion's plot thread? Ica, they're continuing something (I think) from a plot that was started before Summer, so that's why you can't interact with them. =)

Ica:

Jonas smiled at her, sizing her up. She was a nice, sweet little faerie that Jonas would enjoy having around. He could do with hiring a helping hand. Nodding to her, Jonas opened his mouth to respond but then was suddenly very distressed when he saw the poor lass collapse.

Scooping her up, the poor little shop keep moved her over after arranging a nice comfy few pieces of fabric and cotton for a pillowy feel. He laid Ica down ontop of it and watched over her carefully, rather concerned indeed. When she finally came around, Jonas' eyes brightened.
"Oh goodness Miss Ica, are you quite alright? I was going to tell you the details about the job, and then you hit your head when you fell, went right out. I was so frightened that you had hurt yourself I did..." He waited to see how she'd respond, and hoped she was okay..

Steve, Celethor and S'Lon:

Oh wow, three people in one stop! He really was getting busy today wasn't he. It was the spring still (OoC: For this time stamp, lol) so Jonas was just getting settled in. He looked up when they'd all entered and cleared his throat, stammering, "Oh my!" and then listening to them as they got straight to the point with what they needed.

He nodded to all three of them, tallying it up in his head. That made for twenty-one rations. Odd, why would people buy rations in seven-sittings? Goodness, kids these brightenings. Why, back in Jonas' brightening, if you went adventuring you brought an entire cycle's worth of rations with you, you did! He chuckled and gathered them all up, then grabbed a fishing poll from the back and a bedroll for Celethor.

When he got to the front, he divided them up accordingly. Seven rations, a fishing pole and a bedroll for the Dracon, then seven rations for each of the humans.
"Okay there. That's erm, ten.. no, no, seven crowns for the two humans an'.. er, fourtie-seven for th' Dracon." He calculated, seperating the items for them. "Off on a little adventure?" Asked Jonas at the end. He always liked to talk.

Xitus had barely crossed into the Sailor's Haven in time to come in the midst of his new companions, or so they would soon be if generous fate lied eyes on them. Steve, the honorable human, intentions pure-hearted; Celethor, the so-far benign dracon whose behavior patterns fit perfectly for that of a leader; and S'lon, the near six-foot junior ranger, also human. Each were already bartering for their supplies, from what he could comprehend were orders of rations, seven days worth to be exact. This logic and reason struck Xitus as curious, but nevertheless he greeted each as if noble in blood, always laying a benevolent first impression.

"Serale to you, dracon... and also you humans." Nodding to each one, and ultimately coming in contact with Jonas. "Ah! The man I came here to see. How have you been. Ioannes hath blessed, me be hopin'. May I inquire about supplies? I'll be wantin' quite a few things." He cleared his throat, readying to list out all the required goods. "First I be wantin' twenty days rations, each packed up nice and tight, of course unless I need to pack them up myselves. In that case, I'll need a string to do it all with. Along with that I need a tent to house at least five people if no more. Of good condition. No tears. No holes. Nothing wrong. And also a vial, or jar of simular size, if you be havin' any, along with some sort of carryin' bag... preferably leather. And an hourglass would do fine too. One that tells time of course." He chuckled at this before leaning on the counter and glancing at the others.

Ica held her hand to her head. It was definitely bruised. She noticed she was in an arrangement of cotton and cloth. It was actually quite comfortable and very thoughtful of Jonas. Ica held her eyes shut to think for a moment. Oh, of course! She had been asking for a Job and then she... fell and hit her head? She looked up and smiled softly at Jonas as he spoke. I'm ok. Nothing to be worried about. Ica said reassuringly. She pushed her arms off of the cotton bedding and sat upright. Honestly, she felt a little weak, but she didn't want to show it. So naturally she chose not to stand up quite yet and of course not fly, because of her sore wing.

Thank you very much for caring though! As well as making me a place to rest. That was.. very thoughtful! Ica's personality was shining in it's happy go lucky manner. She leaned forward and smiled brightly, hiding her pain. So, as you were saying...What are the details of this job? I would be willing to do anything, as I believe I said?

"Serale, I have come to inquire about whether there are any positions open at this establishment. I am currently training at the local Ranger Hall and I am in need of additional funds. I am willing to do most any job, providing that the pay is decent." she said to the clerk.

Steve waited as Jonas gathered up thier things. The price was good, one crown for each ration. Celethors things seemed pretty well priced too. The fact there was no fixed price didn't seem to mean a rip off here. Steve nodded and pulled out some crowns from his pocket, counting out 7 and placing the money on the counter. He took his rations, and decided he'd answer the kindly old mans question. "Yep,we're going out to try find the problem thats causing these deadful rains. Workin for the thane. I'm sure a end to these rains would be good for buissness." He doubted many people would be venturing outside to shop, unless they needed supplies to leave the city, which would be understandable. But hopefully soon the rains at least would be ended. Xitus entered the building, one of the adventures in the group. "Serale." He greeted the human out of politeness. It seemed the man was ordering alot more then Steve, Celethor and S'Lon had. Alot more food too. He shrugged, thinking he had enough, and walked towards the door with his rations. "I'm off to get my equipment. Catch you all at the gates later." And with that, he walked out into the street and to the barracks

ooc:We are meeting at the gates right?

While S'Lon waited for Steve to collect his rations and move away from the counter he fished in one of his front pouches and extracted the smaller pouch that he used to keep his coinage. Opening it he counted out the seven crowns that the clerk had specified and while he was engaged in this minor task the shop door opened again to reveal the missing member of their party. He noted his quick assessment of the group and replied with a nod and a “Serale” to the mans greeting. He stood with money in hand while he listened to the new mans order until he realised that he was standing there with his mouth open. With the realisation of what he was doing he shut his mouth and grinned, partly at himself and partly as he made an assessment of the order. If the equipment was for their little expedition then it was going to change all the dynamics. Change was not a bad thing but it was an illustration of one of the major problems that the Thane had left them with by not appointing a leader to their group. Perhaps this was because he realised such an imposition would not work, and perhaps he hoped that they would resolve the issue themselves. Whatever, the result was going to provide some entertaining times.

S'Lon believed himself to be fairly easy going and as a loner he did not normally fit into normal groupings. He did not normally care to be a leader, and would normally avoid the role until it was clear that he needed to step in and fix something. He was happy to perform within a role that he defined for himself and if someone else started giving orders then he was happy to follow for the time being. There was a good chance that this new dynamic was going to provide an amusing diversion.

Placing his coin on the counter with a nod of thanks to the clerk he collected his rations. Turning to the new man he smiled and spoke. “Forgive me but I didn’t catch your name and I would prefer not to spend the next few days shouting ‘Oi! You!’ every time I need your attention.” His grin broadened and he glanced over to the Dracon who also had failed to introduce himself as far as S'Lon could recall. “Well unless of course that is how you prefer to be greeted. Do you mind me asking if that equipment is for our little trip? I ask only since if it is then maybe we should consider a quick discussion of what equipment we are taking and how we should split the load amongst us since I’m going to guess that your order may well be fairly heavy.”
