Aedile's Office
Nestled among the office buildings near the center of the city of Narim sat a medium sized slate colored stone structure. It wasn't the most eye-catching thing to be seen in Narim, but it served it's own purposes just fine. The stone was smooth, yet not devoid of many a blemish in it's surface and the mortar which held it together. Some say that such things added to the character of the building. Though, Narim's citizens seemed to see it as just another reminder that the city didn't wish to spend it's money on polishing stone buildings that were being attacked by salty airs anyway. Perhaps that was a factor causing the blemishes in the structure, as salt eventually can begin to corrode surfaces. It was anyone's guess. Two simple windows were in place on either side of the door, their purpose no more than letting light into the room during brightenings, and allowing those inside to observe the outside world as Narim's hustle and bustle continued on around them.. Yet, this building made a relatively quiet atmosphere to do so in.
On the building, there hung an old brass sign on which the paint was still very visible - like it had been painted new yesterday. It was a crisp, well informative sign that just added to the sharpness of the building. It's message though, was simply...
Aedile's Office
The door was of simple cherry wood, dark red undertones shown through and added to the office's overall sharp look. It had a simple silver doorknob, and a window near the top. It opened inwards, and revealed a desk where a slightly overweight, yet very cheery human sat. She always seemed to be working very diligently when anyone entered if no other customers seeking her help were around. Yes, Patricia the Aedile had a reputation of being a hard worker, which when they came to visit put no doubt in anyone's mind. At the sight of the opening of the door and a new figure appearing in her office, she smiles and puts down her work. With a pleasant tone, she greets...
"Serale! How may I help you this brightening?"

For the past era he had not dared to slip out of it even in the privacy of his own home, where there were no eyes to see that he was not a Dorin, but one of the tainted people, a disgusting, foul Dracon fit only for the mountains and not for the cities. Even in Alleria Prime he had been wary about revealing his true race, for he had been raised to keep his secret closely guarded. The Fyrrialt family of Zenith had been very precautious about their true race. Every single member was taught to take the shape of a Dorin, and the fear of being found out was driven into the skulls of their children from their first brightening onward. There was nothing they feared more than the discovery of their true race. They had been a wealthy family, and on its way to gaining nobility through an arranged marriage with a noble house of Arakmat. Then Vylle's brother, an insane social rebel who had adopted the views of the Diantar, had revealed to all the world that the Fyrrialts were Dracons. The noble house that had been about to have their son marry a daughter of House Fyrrialt abruptly ended the arriangement in disgust. The commercial empire that the family had built up in Zenith was ruined. The family fled to different corners of the province, some to Arakmat, some to Imperia, and others, like Vylle, to Nadir. He had eventually moved on to Taralon, and then Alleria Prime.
An era ago, last autumn, he had returned to Taralon only to find mobs of Dorins bent on cleansing the city of Dracons. This had only reinforced and re-instated Vylle's fear of being discovered, and so he had taken his Dorin shape permanently. He was not going to live through the tragedy of Zenith again.
Even though Narim was a largely Dracon-friendly city, Vylle still did not dare reveal his race, for it was not far from Taralon, and the only reason for his presence in Narim was to advance communication between the city. He was there to establish the Narim branch of the Sherian postal service he was building.
He found himself in the office of the Aedile to find a suitable building for the Narim post office. There was going to be a branch in Taralon, Narim, and Vers. Letters sent from Narim would be gathered at that building, then shipped off to Taralon, where they would either be distributed to their destinations in the city or taken to Vers. He was looking to rent.
"S'rale," he lazily greeted the Aedile, "I'm looking for an office to rent, a small one, but on a ground floor, preferably in a merchant district. And I'd prefer it if I could rent it for under eighty Crowns a month."

Patricia raised an eyebrow in amazement. Not many people wanted to rent anything anymore. Every one wanted to buy a house lately. Without even answereing she let out a deep sigh before opening a drawer in her desk. Not making any haste she went through piles of parchement, sometimes taking one out and looking at it before putting it back. After quite a while a smile came across her face. "Ha!" She said, he voice full of triumph.
She put the piece of parchment in front of her and looked up, faking a smile at Vylle. "Well sir, according to this paper here you will have to pay a total sum of 65 crowns a month. It's quite small but I think it would do just fine."
She looked back at the parchment, not really caring wether the man wanted to rent the office or not. She was having some bad brightenings lately, and they got more frequent. Maybe it was the season, the trouble of an upcoming war, or maybe she was just getting bored with her job.

Araglar opened the door, stept inside and nodded at the woman behind the desk. He then slowly turned his back at her and shook both of his feet outside. "So that takes care of that nasty snow" he said, not carring if she could hear him or not.
He walked towards the woman's desk and smiled at her. "I suppose this is the place to ask where I can find my house?"
He laughed, and continued: "Well that sure sounds funny, how often do you hear people asking where they can find their own house? And I'm not even drunk!". Araglar was quite amused with his own joke and continued to laugh for a while.
After a few minutes, he slowly stopped laughing and he wiped the tears of his face. 'You must forgive me" he said, "I'm very excited about my new home. So I'm in quite a good mood" He coughed and started looking for his land deed. He checked all his pockets, more then once actually. It seemed that he had lost the piece of paper but Araglar didn't seem worried at all. "Oh yeah, the sack" he mumbled. He rumbled in the sack with his hand and he quickly found the land deed.
He handed the paper to the woman behind the desk, "I assume you need this?"

The woman behind the desk sat motionless throughout the strange man's laughing fit. She with eyes filled with disgust at the paper held out to her. With two finger she quickly snatched the deed from his hand. "Yes, ofcourse, how would I find your house otherwise?" She said with a hint of annoyance in her voice. She disliked half-elves, they had the stupidity of men, but not enough Elvish grace to make up for it. In fact, she disliked almost veryone when she was working. She even disliked her work.
The woman's eyes scanned the deed as she let out a bored sigh. Taking her time she took out a map of Narim quite slowly, as if to stretch Araglar's excitement to the limit. "Ah yes, here it is" She tapped her finger on the map, indicating the spot to Araglar.

"Wow, is it there?" Araglar asked with a very overreacted cheerfull voice. He had noticed that his exitment annoyed her and decided to amuse himself. "It's perfect he said, look at that wonderfull neighbourhood!" he said. "Oh no, it's so great, better then I could ever have expected I think I'm going to faint" and he quickly grabbed the desk. He stood still for a moment and wiped his forehead with his sleaf. He took a few deep breaths followed by a very loud *sigh*. "I think I'm ok now" he said with a naught look in his eyes and he smiled from ear to ear.
Suddenly his smile disappeared and his eyes lost there glance.
"I would very much like to see my house now but I'm afraid I'm not that familiar with Narim. So could I please borrow that map for a little while? I promise I will bring it back tommorow morning."
"Oh yeah, before I forget, do you know anyone hwo needs an employe or some other place where I can work?" he asked.

Roondar grabbed the doorknob, and he opend the door. He put his hood off and stepped inside. he saw a not really big office, but it was nice.
He stepped up to the lady and said:"Serale, this is were I need to claim my house right? Here is my Deed"
Roondar grabbed his bag, and he put out his Deed and his waterskin."Here it is lady, and I have another question; It's a very very long time ago that I was here. And alot of the city changed. Can you tell me how I'm supposed to walk?"
While the lady was looking at his deed he took a sip of his waterskin.
Don't know how it comes, but this weather makes me thirsty, I hope she can explain it easily, I hope there aren't any problems with my Deed, I hope she is not as cranky as she is looking.

Araglar
Patricia's eyes widened as the half-elf almost got a heart attack from joy at the sight of the location of his new home. People we getting weirder and weirder these brightenings, most probably because of the war. Again she let out a slightly annoyed sigh at Araglar's question.
"No, You cannot borrow this map" she said slwoly, making it clear immediatly that there was no possible way the half-elf would be allowed to take the map. "You can memorize it here or find the way on you own, but the map stays here."
Patricia rubbed the sides of her head as she felt one of those splitting headaches coming up again. "You will have to ask around to see if there are any jobs. I do not keep myself with busy with employment.
Roondar
As if things weren't bad enough another man showed up just after Araglar. By Ioannes, first a hyper-active young man, and now a grey old geezer. What is Telath coming to?
Faking her best smile Patricia listened to the old elf's explaination.
"Thank you sir, your house is located here." The woman said with her sweetest voice which still sounded like ice water running down your spine. She took the map she had used earlier to point out the house to Araglar and tapped her finger where this old man's house was located.

Araglar looked at the cranky woman for a long time. 'I could have seen that one coming, although I expected some more kindness from a non-orc' he said slowly. 'Ok I'll sell it then, allthough I would have liked the idea of having a home. Too bad some people are just jealous, trying to make your live harder then it allready is." After having said this all, with the most arrogant possible tone, he grabbed the land deed from his pocket again.
"sorry, I'll stop wasting your time now". He gave the land deed back and said once more; "I believe you need this" and he gave her a wink. He grinned, once more quite amused with himself.
'Could you please show me on the map where I can join the militairy? That would help me a lot and I've heard it's a beautifull neigbourhood? I hope they have a lot of flowers there, I like that. Nothing beats a nice field of flowers', he said and he sighed.

Patricia sighed at the strange half-elf as she took his deed again. "I'm sorry sir, but house prizes are down a little lately. I'm sorry but I can offer you no more that 4,500 crowns." She said with an amused look on her face. It was true, house prizes had been down, but it was quite fortunate in this specific situation.
"You can join the military here," She said, tapping a long nail on the map again. " but I doubt you could miss it anyway. It's quite big." Her smile disappeared as quickly as it had come as she quickly leaned back in her chair again, waiting for the strange man to leave.

'Well, I guess it'll do,' he muttered, while putting the sack of money in his cote. He scratched his head and quietly looked at the cranky woman. 'You definatly need a different job,' he said while grinning. 'You should try selling fish on a market, yeah you'd do great there'. He imagined the woman yelling that her fish were only 1 gc a piece and once more he couldn't help laughing.
He walked towards the door and started humming some tunes that came up in his head, 'I like that,' he thought. So he called the melody the cranky woman tune, and he laughed once more while he set his foot out the door.

Alkamn happily entered Aedile's Office, knowing that he would need a place to stay within the city. While, being the dwarf that he was, he'd be perfectly fine camping out on the outskirts of town. Unfortunently, he was a bit unnervered by news of orcs in the area. And, it was unbecoming, somewhat, of the midly intellectual dwarf he was, to simply sleep in a tent in the outskirts. So, he had decided to spare some crowns, and try and get something cheap and small. And it really wasn't a hard decision.
"Serale, fair lady," Alkamn replied to the Lady Aedile politely. He smiled before continuing. "I'm here to purchase some property. I admit, however, to being a little unfamiliar with this city, which, by virtue of it's Dwarven construction, is quite the fair one. Do you, by any chance, have any cheap lofts or flats available? Something small, of that sort?"

Patricia looked at the Dwarf from behind her desk, her hands folded in front of her. Her lips were a hard line in her usual hard, professional face as she listened to the Dwarf. Her feature's became even harder as she thought of the Dwarf's stupid question. How was she supposed to know what kind of crowns the Dwarf was willing to spend.
As she let out a deep sigh the human leaned a bit foreward to better adress the dwarf in front of her. "Dear sir, it might help a little if you would tell me about your wishes. We have 'cheap' lofts and flats even, but I think they would not fit to your social status." She stressed the last few words to make sure the sarcasm of her remark wouldn't be lost to the Dwarf. "However, do you wish to take one of the flats, they're located above various shoppes in the merchantile district for only eighteenhundred crowns. Ofcourse these flats only have two rooms and are located in the busiest section of town."
The female leaned back into her chair, not caring if the Dwarf thought she had been rude. In her mind he had posed a stupid question and she had the right to be rude to him. In her mind...

The dwarf gave a half smile at Patricia's crass answer. He scoffed lightly, and looked up at the human with a look of disdain. 'What a typical human answer,' he thought in jest. Alkamn ran his fingers through his rough beard in thought, though his mind was already made up; he wouldn't waste that kind of money for a cheap peice of land in the mercantile district. He found the idea absurd, though he would be more polite in his response than she.
"My social status is of no concern, to you, Aedile." He stressed the last word, hoping the woman would know her place. "I practice humbleness, in accord with the teachings of Orod. Still, eighteen-hundred seems a bit too pricy for two rooms in a practical ghetto. Do you rent houses for the same price, or cheaper?"

Patricia looked like she was about to grab the Dwarf and toss him out of the window. First he wanted to buy something, and then it was too expensive for Mister Mighty Dwarf?! She couldn't stand people who changed their minds when they were about to buy something. In fact, she hated them, especially when they were short, beardy dwarves who were being smart with her.
Through only the greatest efforts the woman calmed herself and breathed out heavily. "Well, sir. We have the same flats for rent. It will cost you 65 crowns a month to rent one, and they're almost the same, although we have some in the residential area for 75 crowns. The problem is that you can't replace any of the furniture or layout of the flat." Every word she spoke seemed to be measured carefully as if she didn't want to spend too much air on the short man in front of her. Her eyes seemed to light up with fire as she tried to keep herself from attacking the Dwarf. Alkamn would have to be careful with this woman for she seemed to be eager to get rid of him, either by use of the guards or by doing it herself.
