Lingus is an upstanding Citizen
Tyreal and Tulip's General Shop

Tyreal waits in his shop for some customers. He goes about in the back and rummages through some items that he had not yet seen. He made everything neat and clean for the customers.

The dracon grabbed a seat and perched his feet on the counter as he stared waiting.

A small sign could be seen hanging on a wall in the shop which was placed directly across from the desk.

............................
The wily hald-elven ranger decided he'd stop by his friend, his only friend's store on the way to Tomar's shipyard. Sometime ago Tyreal had told him that he owned a story in Narim--or was it Tail? Syn couldn't remember, but then again he couldn't remember much.

Syn walked into the story runbbing his chin and felt the goatee growing there. He was surprised when he went to brush back some of his long locks when he felt instead of a simple goatee, but an entire fledgling beard. Was it really that long since he'd shaved? When was the last time he'd slept indoors? Synrei was ashamed that he looked so pathetic.

Walking to Tyreal he gives his dracon a confused look, and then says, "Whatsup Tyreal?"
..................................................

Tyreal welcome's his friend Syn with a hand shake and nods his head. Walking around the counter to meet with Syn , scratching his face he was quite puzzled why Syn would come to the store , or why anyone would for that matter. How did he found out about it, well it didnt matter.

Hey , Syn well if you look up there are some wooden boards that make the roof. Not to strong, but tight enough to keep the rain away. I mean i know they are nice brown and beautiful, just the way i like um.

Tyreal smiles, staring at the roof and rambling on to Syn on how the color complimented the rest of the shop and other mumbokumbo that wasn't necessary.
__________________

Syn looked up at the rafters then back at his eccentric friend.

"Yes, looks like a good roof? Spose' it keeps ya in the shade too huh?"

Getting back to why he'd come. "Anyway Tyreal." Syn could believe he was asking this, but the fact remained that he was poorer than sin. The money he'd been given by the merchant caravan leader years ago was on its last leg. 95 crowns were all that remained of 2000, but it had somehow been enough to keep Synrei alive for six years. "I'm sure that tail errr...Tulip does a good job in helping you, but do you need and extra hand around here?" Syn did well to hide his shame.
.................................................. ........

Tyreal's head moved from the roof to Syn . Shade?, why would it it keep me from the shade ? Tyreal was truly confused but no matter he might have needed a few hands around. Carrying those items around was not a simple task.

Taking Syn behind the counter and then taking a seat, well i cant say no now. You are behind the counter which makes you an employee. No regular customer would get this privilege.
__________________

Well that was relatively painless, Synrei's pride would recover.

Synrei looked around behind the counter actually surprised that he did not see anything contraband. Syn assumed then, that Tyreal had it hidden somewhere in the back. There had to be something weird about this place--he'd almost be disappointed if there wasn't.

Addressing tail, "So ummm....what does he pay us?"
.............................................

Tulip had the distinct feeling she was being ignored again. She felt it extremely typical of the male of the species to be so ignorant.

Oh tip toe throught the tulips with me .... Tulip rather liked that little ditty if only she could recall all of the words to it.
................................................

Upon hearing the words from Tulip he giggled a bit. She wasnt being ignored just not thought of. It was quite ironic that Tulip spoke just when Tyreal had summoned her.

Taking a stare at Syn,You see Syn look what you did, now maybe if you ask her again nicely she would reply properly. Now go on ask her.Tyreal said as he poked Syn with his elbow.

Then, shifting his torso to Tulip he winked at her .I think you got it all wrong it goes like this, Oh tip Toe through the tulips with me if you do find me a tree. Walk all over the leaves with me if you do ill buy you a shoe. Drink all of the water with me if you do ill give you a ............ double bladed battle axe with crystal dust blade bending , and an onyx crystal on the hilt and obsidian glass inscription and forged in high grade dwarven steel? Is that it ?

Lingus strode into the General Store, hoping to find some goods to trade with during in his journeys. The Aedile had said this might be a good place to start, because of the general shortage of merchandise elsewhere caused by the war.

He stopped in his tracks when he saw that the the shopkeeper was a dracon.

His eyes narrowed, and the thought of turning right around and walking out the door was foremost on his mind. As he stood there for almost thirty seconds solid, his initial reaction passed and his newly found business ideas took over.

"If I'm to set up as a trader, I can't really pick and choose my customers, can I?" he thought.

Swallowíng his dislike for the dracon race for now, and hoping his true feelings didn't show on his face he approached the counter.

"Serale", he said, rather more gruffly than he intended. "I have a business proposition I'd like to make."
.................................................. ..............

Syn was totally befuddled by the exchange between Tyreal and Tail, newly dubbed Tulip. Oh, I suppose that's where the Tulip in Tyreal and Tulip's General Store comes from.

Syn gave up trying to understand and decided to address the fellow who had just walked in. He decided he'd want to see how Tyreal react and possibly put himself into a situation for further amusement. Syn drew his sword, feigning anger.

Syn's acting portrayed his expression as a mix of fear and deep anger of this person. In almost a desperate tone of voice, "Tyreal, I know this fool! He's a thief a notorious thief hailing from the Arium province. He's a ruthless killer and he shall surely plunder us if we do not stop him. Alas, there is also a hefty bounty on this fellow's head." Of course, Syn was making this all up, but is words and movements tried to conceal that. Hopefully, Tyreal would know Syn enough to realize what he was doing.
.................................................. .......................

Tyreal was angered at the new man who had just walked into Tyreal's shop. He seemed uncomfortable, was it the store or was it the tail he didn’t now but the dracon didn’t let it get to him. Smiling at Syn and looking at the man Tyreal replied.

Syn, wait, let's see what this guy has to offer and if i don’t like it we'll just slice him up and use his for food or feed him to the vicious Tulip.

Making his way to the door and locking it, then he scurried over behind the counter and looked at the human.

So, whats your proposition ?

Tulip swung around to get a good look at the newcomer Humph! Why so excited about a human? Its not as if you eat them or anything! You just like to tease!
.............................................

Lingus started to wheel in Synrei direction the instant he heard the sword being drawn, and by the time he was finished his turn, he was spluttering in outrage and anger. His face contorted and went fiery red. It was probably a good job for the half-elf that he had drawn his sword, or else such accusations would have earned him a severe beating.

As it was, Lingus drew his own sword, and prepared to use it. This ranger was calling him a thief and a bandit, with a price on his head. He had never heard anything so ridiculous in his life, and was not going to take that sort of thing from anyone. Talk like that could get a man lynched, or shot from behind for the supposed bounty.

As he strode towards the person, sword in his right hand, and his left reaching towards his hunting knife where it hung from his sash, he spied the dracon locking the door, and rushing back to his counter. He probably had a weapon hidden there, and two to one in a locked store which noone had seen him enter made Lingus panic. He didn't really listen to what the dracon said, just saw the cold, scaly face smile, showing teeth and heard of him being cut up and fed to something.

As he saw it, his one chance was to take Synrei out of the action before the dracon could interfere, and then face the beast. The presence of a third voice, from where he did not know, only pushed him further. How many enemy was he facing.

"You lie, you filthy dog!!" he shouted, as he came to almost swords reach of the haf elf. "There is no bounty, liar."

Although his heart was racing, and he wanted to shout his innocence to the rooftops, he wasn't about to take foolish chances. He had fought for his life many times before, and knew how to defend himself.

He moved his knife into a parrying position, and brought his sword straight into action. Keeping the blade turned slightly towards his body so it wouldn't snag on weapons or flesh, he brought it flashing in a diagonal slash aimed from the others left collarbone to right hip, and used the back slash to drag the blade across where Syns lower stomach should be.

He was fighting for his life and freedom here.

OOC foolish thing to do Syn. Looks like we'll have to get a mod here before we can go on.
.................................................. ..................

OOC: This didn't have to turn into a fight, but if you want one you get one.
I'd like to point out the mod of this thread that I am behind the counter, and I do believe I would have some time to react if I saw this man charging at me.

IC: Syn was hoping for an amusing turnout, but alas people simply could not take a joke nowadays. Not that Syn had the intentions of making his soon to be assailant, laugh--but he wasn't expecting a violent reaction.

Synrei decided he would hop backwards further separating him from the man, with the counter hopefully serving as the main bulwark. If the man ever dared come across the counter, and with no witnesses, Tyreal could definitely have this man arrested on grounds of attempted robbery.

It occurred to Syn that by the man's words, he had incriminated himself. His attacker responded to Syn's remark by calling Syn a liar and corrected Syn by saying that there was no bounty. So now, according to Syn's lie and the man's corrections, he was a thief and killer from the Arium and would kill innocent merchants, but did not have a bounty on his head.

Syn sighed and kept his katana steady, meaning to try and deflect any attack that the counter did not fully stop, and distance between the two did not prevent.
__________________

As Lingus advanced was going to be difficult with counter in the way. Syn easily evaded the attack. The two stood there momentarily weighing the options. Lingus could come over the counter to continue the attack, or he could answer the Dracon’s question. Syn could attempt a counter move and fuel the fire or extinguish it with words.

OCC: Nice store to bad it may get trashed with Sword play in close quarters.
__________________

ooc I'm going to need a detailed description of the store before I can make any other move. I need to know things like how high the counter is, how tough it it, and if it's bolted to the floor. How strong is the door, are there windowns, is there anything heavy on the shop floor or on the countertop I can throw, either at Syn, or use to break out of the shop. Where is the counter in relation to the door, etc.

IC
Lingus' attack was twarted by the counter, and it didn't lessen his panic at all. He backed off a step from the counter, keeping Syn in his sight at all times.

In desperation, he glanced about trying to find a way out of the situation. His heart was racing, and adrenaline was pumping through his blood. Surely there had to be a way..
.................................................. ........................

OOC: I'm not gonna trash Tyreal's store, I actually do need the money from a job here.

IC: Syn, still maintaining a tight grip on his own weapons lowers it, so that the leading edge of the katana rests on the floor--a neutral stance.

His visage could immediately be noticed as changed from one of instinctual anger, so calm disassociation. By the look on Syn's face, one might infer that he cared not whether the man attacked of didn't. Whatever it was he had no desire to make the move that would surely be a costly struggle---to Tyreal.

OCC: Hmm a detailed description of the store. I wonder how we can do that, oh Tyreal
Tyreal you have permission to be a little bunny proof. Go ahead and describe your store.

Lingus I’ll wait until this is done and you reply to Syn’s post on lowering his weapon.

ooc k well the store is made out of oak. The only thing's that are metal are th metal beam's on each corner of the room. Three window's , two on each side of the counter and the last on in the back room which was locked off. From the locked door to the counter is 6 ft and from the counter to the door of the back room was 7 feet. The back room is where the item's are kept. The various cheap item's , like ration's are held behind the counter. The floor is made of oak also, from top to bottom it is 12 ft. thats it..

P.S:you break it you bought it!!
__________________

All he had wanted was to buy some trade goods, and because of a badly judged attempt at humour and a misunderstood gesture by the owner, Lingus' main priority was to get the Aeternia out of the store, as soon as possible. The counter that had impeded his move towards the half elf could work the other way as well.

It could slow down either of the two behind it if they tried to approach the human. He noted that the ranger who had accused him of being an outlaw lowered his sword, but he still said nothing to retract his accusation. Anger was the feeling that mostly showed on Lingus' face, although he was still panicing.

As quickly as he could without stumbling, he backed away to the window on the left of the counter, keeping his weapons at the ready. Without ever taking his eyes from the other two, he thrust his sword at the window pane, hoping to break the glass. He winced slightly at what that might do to the blade, but he had to get out of the store.

His thrust was as controlled as he could make it without turning his back on the dracon and ranger, even in his haste he didn't want to get cut on broken glass.
...........................

The Window was made up of several small panes. This went un-noticed by Lingus since his eyes were fixed on Tyreal and Syn.
His thrust was successful in breaking one pane only.

__________________
Tyreal angered at the man breaking his window drew his falchion's and charged at him with madness in his mind and anger in his eye's. Jumping on top of the counter and running along it until he was a few feet away from lingus he jumped in the air and attempted to cut the man , the falchion in his left hand he went for the man's throat and his other falchion aimed for the spine. While in the air Tyreal screamed YOU BOUGHT IT

__________________
A quick glance at the window confirmed what the noise of breaking galss had suggested. Only a small portion of the window had been broken. Lingus was about to use the sword more vigoursly on the remaining panes, when the dracon came barrelling across the top of the counter with drawn swords.

Lingus took two quick steps to the right, hoping to get out of the way of the oncoming swordsman. He swept his sword on front of his torso, hoping to further deflect the baldes from his body, and maybe batting the airborne dracon aside, possibly smashing him into the wall or remaining window panes.

..........................

Lingus was able to parry the attack using Tyreal’s momentum to his advantage. As the steel clangs together, Tyreal sees the Window coming fast. He had attacked with such speed that once diverted he was unable to stop, and out the Window he went.
The Falchion in his right hand scored a hit to the thigh of Lingus. It was a long laceration to the bone; the use of that leg at this point was all but gone.

The Guards on patrol of the City, heard the ruckus and upon investigation, found the shop owner lying on the ground outside the store and the door still locked. “Narim Legionnaires open this door"!

__________________
ic:Tyreal attempted to jump back into the store and land on lingus, just for safe measure's . He had hoped that Syn could open the door, even if he had to break the lock.

__________________
The parry seemed to work, deflecting the blades from Lingus' upper body. Unfortunatly, one of them just deflected enough to hit him in a less vital area. With a roar of pain, Lingus dropped the sword in his right hand, keeping a grip on the knife with his left, and brought both to press on the wound. He had never been much good in dealing with pain.

Breathing deeply, he leaned back against the wall beside the window, glad that the dracon had left the building and he would have a short respite before having to defend himself again.

The deep cut on his leg pulsed agony, and he hoped very much he wouldn't pass out.

Much to his relief, before the half elf could finish what his friend had started, the legionares arrived on the scene.

Saved, thought Lingus, though with the blood gushing from his thigh he might still have been in trouble. Hopefully they could get this mess sorted out. More than anything he wanted to get out of this store and clear his name after the allegations of the ranger.
...................................

As the patrol knocked on the door demanding entrance, the shop owner got up and jumped back in throw the window. This angered the men and they brought down the door. As the door flung open it knocked Tyreal to the ground. The men swiftly entered to access the situation. One man, the owner laying on the floor out cold with half the door on top of him. A man against the wall bleeding badly. By the look of color on his face, is all but out on his feet. And one other man behind the counter with no signs of injury. You men tend to the injured man, you men get this door off the owner and bring him to. Then turning to Syn. What has happen here?

OOC: I can't find the entire thread but there's more than what's posted above. Afterwards, I explained to the gaurd what happened, Tyreal got up and said he would press charges against Lingus for robbery, and Lingus was carted of because the wound he recieved from Tyreal was serious enough that the leg might have to be amputated.

OOC: Yes you are correct Syn. Let me sum it up. Lingus’s cut is very bad and some of the patrol took him to the physician. The Door was removed off of Ty, and Syn was questioned. Ty pretty much agreed with Syn’s account of what happened. And when asked if he wanted to press charges, his answer was yes. So basically we have syn and Ty in the store with a broken down door, Lingus is at the physicians getting his leg worked on.

IC: The Captain of the patrol upon hearing Tyreal answer stated, “You will be presented with a court date as soon as the injured man is able to stand trial.” With that said the patrol left.

Orb

Syn almost tipped over laughing after the gaurds had left. Syn, and much less Tyreal, weren't the most stable characters but never did Syn figure it would escalate to those levels.

Looking at Tyreal, still laughing occassionaly, "Since you haven't fired me yet, can we do that to other customers too? That man had no sense of humor", Syn said totaly ingnoring the fact that Lingus had a possibly crippling wound.

A few cycles after this event

Syn had lounged around the shop all day, serving customers when they came in. However, he'd probably already spent more time sleeping that doing his job. Not the he or his boss Tyreal cared.

In the time he'd been working here, Syn had made enough money to support himself. But he could not stay settled for long, and he felt the cold calouse edge he'd developed from ten years of living in the wilderness was wearing down. He would not quit, but did need to get away from society, at least for now. Do do that he would need money.

Synrei got up and walked to the back store room of the place where he'd last seen Tyreal. "Tyreal? You still alive?"

As soon as Syn walked into the back room Tyreal placed a bucket over his head and crouched down in the corner. The back room was a mess with various itmes around ,and a desk in the middle of the place. He had no where to go, even if he did he couldnt hide his wings and tail.

I am dead, Syn.......Mwhahahah

Syn saw Tyreal with the bucket over his head. A seven foot black scaled dracon with wings and a sentient tail was hard to miss amongst store supplies.

Synrei wheeled about and went back the way he came. He shouted in the air, but knew Tyreal would hear, "Well it the case that you are dead, I'm going to the Aedile right now to sell this place...I need the money."

Tyreal was obviously the smarter one, he knew how to be silent and stealthy.

You need the deed in order to........ Tyreal had just realized he had probably blown his cover but he still had a chance.

Syn was halfway out the door when he heard Tyreal speak. He sighed, turned around and went back into the storeroom.

He acted as if the voice he heard was actually his own conscience telling him what to do but chose to answer out loud, "Good point. And besides I wouldn't know what to do with all that money. I really only need like two thousancd or so; so I'll just take stuff out of the store room and hock it somewhere." He went over and examined the bucket that was on Tyreal's head. "Naaa...too smelly....", he walked away to look for other items worthy of selling.

A fat little gnome, after a short roam around the city, decided his stay was to be a short one. Narim wasn't exactly to his taste, so another journey to another city became necessary. However, to do so, Altriak needed more rations for the journey, as his previous supply ran out.

Walking around, he tried to find some sort of general store around the vicinity. It took a while and it almost came to the point where Altriak was about to give up. He felt like he was walking for years, though, in reality, it was only about a minute an a half. Sitting down for a minute, Altriak peered up to see something closely resembling a general store. Hoping that he had finally found it, the big gnome stuggled up to a standing position and waddled to the door.

Waddling in, after a struggle to reach the door knob, Altriak found that he was in the right place. Despite him beingi n hte right place, it seemed that nobody was here. So, he simply yelled out to see if anyone was in the other room.

"Serale to you! Do you have food I can have to journey to Primus Gaudeo? I'd like it very much! Yea!" Altriak peered up at the counter as he said this, then averted his eyes around the store to see what the owner had. Then, he scratched his potbelly stomach, covered by the wrinkles of his cotton red button-up shirt and awaited a response.

OOC: Tyreal's the dracon, and he's currently asleep with a bucket on his head in the store room

IC: Syn, at first, thought Tyreal was talking to him again. But the he realized the voice wan't like Tyreal's and wasn't female like Tulip, not to mention the sound seemed to come from below him.

As he walked out of the backroom he saw the little gnome and walked behind the counter to deal with the customer. "Ummm...let's see....We've got travelling rations...those are two crowns per day worth." He thought for a minute what else Tyreal had stocked in the shop, "Oh yeah, and dry preserves too. The price on those vary."

Tyreal indeed was asleep, as time drifted by he fell deeper and deeper into sleep.

Atriak stopped and paused for a minute, giving a slight hint that he was turning into a garden gnome. However, he moved his arm suddenly to lift his pointy wizard hat to scratch his head.

"Er...uhm...yea. I think...uh...twenty days or rations would do? And you wouldn't happen to have....pots and pans...maybe?"

Altriak stood there, waiting for a response as he reached into his puch to get fourty crowns.

As Tyreal slept with the bucket on his head, his oxygen wore short. And he passed out. Both the customer and Syn heard a terribly loud sound as Tyreal hit the floor, knocking over everything in his path. Luckily for Tyreal the fall knocked the bucket off his head before he died of asphyxiation.
