Riding Practice (Open, Mod?)

OOC: I'm just here to practice some riding and the streets of Riparia are to be the chosen venue. If someone feels like popping in to say hello or have some fun - feel free, if someone wants to kill/maim/rob a hapless traveller - Id'est will run away as fast as possible, or shoot you if you look like a good target, I on the other hand hope you haven't read this.

To the Kity, if you feel the need to read my thread and/or post I have no problem with that, now to start.

IC: It was a rather nervous elf that edged his way out of the main entrance to Peppers stables astride a mare named Mara. The mare was not his own, this brightening had been the first during which he had laid eyes upon her, and the first which had seen the elf upon a horses back since his early childhood. Id'est considered himself to be adept at interacting with these animals upon foot and had expected to encounter little trouble controlling the animals from upon the back, however he had expected multiple lessens building him up to a point where he could safely control them. The light of this brightening had seen the elf change both views; Todd's quick course had seen him gain enough competence that his instructor had seen fit to have him ride the streets, and the ruff rides around the stable yard getting to that point had shown him that riding astride a horses back required greater effort than convincing one to pull a wagon.

Now was the time to tests Todd’s view, allowing the mare to move at it's own pace Id'est barely rocked as he clenched her reigns tightly with his left hand slightly pulling them towards his chest and setting her on a turn to bring her parallel with the cities traffic. His goal almost achieved the young elf had a slight change of heart noting a gap in the flow of traffic he releasing the pressure from Mara's reigns and lightly tapped her flank sending her into the opening at a slightly faster speed. Nodding to the driver of the conveniently slow iron laden wagon, the young merchant gave his mount another tentative tap to the flank, bringing her to a pace he felt comfortable at amongst this dense traffic. Id'est allowed Mara to continue at a slight diagonal to the traffic as that was where an opening lay between a group of well dressed women and two workmen struggling with a large ceramic pot supported by two poles, from here it was a little further down the street and he'd attempt a detour down a well tended road. Id'est hadn't had a chance to dwell on nerves after leaving Peppers.

Slightly rocking back and forth while perched on the saddle Id'est was concentrating hard as he stered Mara through the gap ahead. First ajusting her slightly to the left, then the right and back to the left again the elf soon noticed Mara was slowing down as he maintained constant presure on here reigns thinking better of this stratagy he decided to let them hang loos and see how the horse stered herself. Fortunately for the elf, this was the correct course of action to take, he had been half looking forward to a mad gallop out of the street to avoid paying damages, that would surely have seen him injured. In the event, Mara chose as most animals do, not to needlessly collide with the humans and walked herself through the provided space without a hitch, this self stering method discovered Id'est decided to alow the mare to freely move a bit down the road befor he looked for a likely deture.

His hands had become sweaty thus the elf wiped them dry upon his trousers, one at a time to avoid letting the reigns drop. After gaining a new grip Id'est moved the mare to the far side of the foroghfare, avoiding oncomeing trafic and creating a twisting path to the front of a coblers shop, pulling Mara to a hult the merchant decided to evaluate his situation before continuing with the ride. Mara seemed to me happy enough to be out and about, and maybe he wouldn't end up suffering from a day in the sadle, he would just have to find out. Looking around the elf spotted a sign that he recognized, it was hanging above a ceramic shop, the broken peice of potery may not tally with what he'd wan't advetizing such a buiseness, however Id'est was looking for a street down which he could turn and he happened to know of a rather nice ally allong side that shop that lead to a decent resedential part of town. That sounded good to him.

To be finished. And spell checked. This will have to do for now, sleep becons.
