The undead Attack Zerdargia.

The Captain of the guard had received the information that the dwarf from the Zerdagian Elite had brought. Now he had to look at what forces would be assembled to join in the war against the undead.

He also realised that there would be some of the civilians of the city that would be ready to go to the fight as well. So he sent a sergeant to put a post on the notice board of the city. in the centre of the square at the centre of the city. If they wanted to join in, then they could join in the journey and could help in the battles.

So he waited at the parade ground to see if any civilians would want to join in the battle.

Grak had heard of the attack with some interest and had decided that it was just the thing that he needed to get out of the city for a while. His interests in the city could wait a while and it would give him an alibi for the activities that the other orcs had started to embark upon. It was important to Grak that Riparia was seen to be innocent of involvement in what was going to happen soon and given Riparias unusually high population of orcs, he wanted to be sure that fingers could be pointed to the orcs or some of them being elsewhere. In any case he didn’t have the skill to undertake what was going to happen elsewhere.

Really though, Grak had to admit privately that the real reason he was heading towards the parade ground was simply because it sounded like fun. So here he was with his full kit strapped to his horse, though as usual he was wearing the mail and carrying his beloved axe. The rest of his weapons, shield and supplies were on the horse, but Grak wasn’t for the time being and had little intention to spend any more time on it than he had to.

He walked onto the parade ground and paused at the edge for a moment before heading towards the soldier that stood in the square apparently waiting for something or someone.

”Serale,” he called when he got close enough. ”Me Grak. Me look for fight. You looking for people?” He grinned to himself as he spoke and wondered if the officer would be able to pull apart the oversimplified statement and put it back into something that a normal person might have a hope of understanding.

The captain of the guard looked the newcomer to the parade ground over. An Orc who seemed to be ready to depart and help in this little battle.

" Yes, we are looking for voluteers to join our guards that we take to the battle. Have you any experience in fighting Brak?

Grak snorted at the mispronunciation of his name but did not bother to correct him. ”Me orc, me fight since me can stand.”

He guessed that the officer wanted a little more specific information, so he continued. ”Me train, axe, circle of seven. Master Go’axa.” He let the officer make of that what he would. ”I bring what you see, armour and axe mine.” Actually that was a slight inaccuracy as really they belonged to the clan but in practice it was true.

ic: So you have some training, and you have weapons and armour. That is all I need to know at the moment. If you stand here for a while, I will address all those that voluteer for this little foray into Zerdargia. Just a while longer to see if we have any others that may want to take part in this.

The Captain continued to look around to see if there were any others that were going to join in this battle.

Ramiel ran down to the parade ground, attaching his dagger as he ran. He could barely contain his excitement. A real battle, and he would be able to help! As he reached the grounds, he saw a couple people standing around. Approaching the Captain, Ramiel gave a salute; it wasn't too great, but it was an improvement from his first try.

Serale, Sir. My name is Ramiel. I'm here to help you with the war. At this, Ramiel shifted his weight a little bit. I haven't had much training, though...I hope I can be of help to you.

The captain looked the recruit in the eye and checked him over. He seemed to be eager and willing to learn, perhaps the youngster could learn a few things whilst he traveled with the guards that would be going on this little trek to Zerdargia.

So, you have little training, well that is not a problem recruit Ramiel, for we will need those that can help in other ways, but that does not mean that your time will be wasted on the journey, for you will be able to mix with the other soldiers and learn from them. So make sure you have everything that you need on you, and you have your dagger fitted I see, we will kit you, and all those that want to come on this journey to the battle out with surplies as soon as everyone gets here, So stand at ease son, and we will soon be on our way.

Zakh walked fast to the parade ground. As he reached the grounds, Zakh could see a few people standing around, probably signing up to aid Zerdargia

As he reached the notice board he saluted to the Captain
"Serale Sir! I was instructed to sign up here to help Zerdargia. I have the basic combat training given in the Riparian Guard. I had basic training in Longsword and dagger, Sir!"
Zakh dropped the salute and waited for the Captain to reply

The captain of the guard watched as the Dorin came and reported for duty in the upcoming war.

Welcome recruit, please stand in formation over with the others of your class, and I will soon be giveing the orders to proceed so do not worry, for we will be on our way.

The Captain of the guard stood on the parade ground. Beside him were his staff of C/Os and NCOs and a few civilians. The whole of the riparian guard was turned out smartly dressed and ready for action. There were also One hundred Wagons that would be being used for supplies of food, and weapons. Five special wagons were also set in amoungst these for housing the MAges that the Guards would be taking. These wagons seemed to be shielded by some special force, that shimmered in the weak winter suns.

Grak, Ramiel, and Zakharias, were all on the parade ground as the Captain took his place and waited for the Assembled throng to quieten down.

Serale Ladies and Gentlemen. The Riparian Guard have a reputation that in it's city is not that Great, but in Historical Terms the Guards have an illustrious career. Now a new passage of History is upon us. Our Distant Neighbour, Zerdargia is under attack. This is no idle threat, this is all out war. We have received message from their Veldar Elite, that they are in need of assistance, we do not take this lightly, and will always aid those of our fellow members of this Province, because, there, but by the will of the Gods of this realm, goes this city. If they win against Zerdaria, will have free reign to come straight towards the hub of contact to the other provinces of this realm, namely us. So we will send Aid.

The aid we will be sending is as follows:
3000 Foot Soldiers - Mainly Dwarf with Elf / Human / Orc / Vysstichi / Halfling - Axe, Mace, and Swords.
300 Foot Soldiers - Spears or Halberd Elf / Human
1000 Archers - Long Bow - (Includes 100 Crossbow). Mainly Elf / Human / Few dwarves
500 Cavalry - Elite Soldiers - Sword / Spear / Maces
50 Cavalry Archers
60 Mages - Thaumaturgists, Elementalists, Sorcerers

This is basically a third of our defensive force. To this extent the Guards that are left will be expected to take up the slack and all leave has been cancelled as of now. For those that are staying, you are not forgotten and your work is just as important so you will be expected to give of your best.

I will be leading this venture Zerdargia. If you have any problems, my second in command is in charge. Lt. Winder, will be able to take care of the guards and the city whilst we are away.

Those of the population of this city that have decided to aid our cause, I thank you, and your efforts will not go unrewarded.

So we enter dark times, but I believe that this is not the beginning of the End of our time, but it is the end of this tyranny that has come to try to oppress a friend. We will do our best and the best will be good enough to aid in the downfall of the evil that will fail in its attempts to take our neighbour by force.

May your gods go with us as we begin this journey.

The forces of the riparian Guard were formed into units and sqauads, and then formed into cohesive regiments to travel to their destination.

Grak, Zakharias, and Ramiel were all located in the first squadron, each with an important roll to perform. The first two brightenings passed without incident, but this was to be expected, but the third brightening had dawned upon the land, and this was the day that they would reach their destination.
