Riparian Guard - Mess Hall

OOC: This is a general pupose, ooc - type thread for the guards to have a bit of fun or converse about their recent activities. If the sergeant needs you, he will post at you room threads. Basically Have fun in here. If you want to have a game, in the bar area then let me know, or self mod. I don't mind as long as you stay within the rules of the game. If you want to bet or gamble then again, within the rules or give me a shout and I can mod.

IC: The Mess hall was easy to locate, being just off the parade ground. The unmistakeable smell of the available cuisine would assault the guards right on the poroboscis every meal time, Normally just as they were about to start something important.

The hall was arranged with Six long tables, each of which could seat one hundred persons, or beings, being positioned lengthways throughout the Hall. At the end of the Hall was another table where all the top brass would be seated to eat. The sergeants and lower ranking officers would sit with the troops.

Off the side of the Mess hall was a large games room, come bar. This was frequented more during the evening hours, by those who were not on duty that particular shift. There were games such as cards, Darts ( usually at a caracature of the sergeant ), skittles, and Chess. There are many tables and seats that the off duty guards can use.

The Bar was usually open for those that could show their Military visa's, and would sell most beverages that a bar could hold, and at a discount price. A list was posted at both ends of the bar giving the prices of the drinks available.

It is the responsiblity of the Guard at all times to ensure that they do not turn out for parade Drunk. If this occurs then disciplinary measures will be taken.

[Vinston]

Vinston entered, flashing his Military ID with a smile. He wasn't officially a member of the Guard yet, as he hadn't completed basic training, be they'd already supplied him with an ID.

The Mess Hall was more crowded than Vinston remembered and he stood near the entrance, unsure of where to head.

He finally took a seat at a table near the front, and waited, hopefully someone he recoginized would come in soon enough.

OOC: Someone come join me in the Mess Hall!

[Zakharias]

Zakharias headed to the Mess Hall. He was feeling a bit lonely, being away from his pack for so long and furthermore he sought to have someone inside the Army to talk to and the Mess Hall would be ideal place to start conversation with someone.

Upon entering, Zakh could now see the size of the Riparian Guard. Zakharias estimated that more than 500 soldiers where inside the Mess Hall.

He recognized a dwarf sitting on a table next to the entrance. He remembered seeeing him in the enrollment office, aplying at tyhe same time as Zakh.

He walked over to where the dwartf sat and nodded at the dwarf as he sat in front of him.

"Serale. I'm Zakharias. I think i saw you in the Enrollment Office when you applied for tyhe Guard. I joined right after you. So, are you enjoying life in here?"

[Vinston]

Vinston had been sitting only a few minutes, though it felt longer, and just as he was about to give in and head back, a Dorin approached. The Dwarf's eyes lit up.

"Serale Zakharias!" Stumbling somewhat over the name, he repeated it, more for himself than for his friend. "Zakharias. So you signed up just after me, you say? I think I do remember passing you on the way out, but I'm not sure. Ah, doesn't matter, you look familiar."

He paused, unsure of what to say next, so he moved on to Zakahrias's question. He answered quickly, as the answer was an easy one. "So far I love it! Haven't started training though yet, I start tommorow, and I fear that may make it a bit harder to like. But at the moment I love it here in Riparia."

He took a long pause, and then looked up, almost wistfully.

"Tis very quiet and peaceful here, isn't it?"

OOC: We finally meet in character! Lol!

[Zakharias]

Zakharias shifted in his seat, not feeling confortable on these seats. He scratched the side of his neck while talking, an itch making his way through his fur.

"It sure is" Zakh replied "I haven't started training neither so maybe tomorrow we'll be at the parade ground, ready for action. I don't know about you but all this peace and quiet gets pretty boring. Maybe the training'll keep our mind out of it." Zakharias straightened his shoulders, the bulk of them remarkable even for a Dorin.

The scent of Army cuisine lingered in the air. It may not be suited for a royal banquet but it sure was enough for the Dorin's stomach to start rumbling.
"How about you and me go get some food?" Zakh motioned the dwarf to follow him " i'm starving. By the way i didn't get your name."

OOC: It seems Vinston left the army so im starting a new line of conversation on this here thread.

It was Dinner time and Zakharias had just came back from an exhausting longsword training. He came up to the bar and showed his military visa and asked for dinner. The lady at the counter gave him a tray filled with mashed potatoes, peas and a few slices of meat loaf.
He took the tray and sat down on one of the chairs, glancing around to see if he saw the fellow that spoke to him in training, Bart. He shrugged and started to eat his food. It was good food, simple food but it was tasty and Zakh could feel his body coming around to it's normal self.

Bart turned up just a few moments after Zahk had begun to eat.

Well Zakh, this food is good, I'm famished. The training is going well don't you think. I mean we have so much to cram in, in such a short space of time. My head is going crazy just trying to get everything sorted out.

He took a couple of mouthfuls of food and a drink of juice, before he continued.

So where you from then Zakh? I'm originally from Nadir, but my parents moved here a number of patterns ago, and I have lived most of my life in Riparia.

[Zakharias]

Zakh didn't even had time to chew all of the food he had in his mouth, when Bart, came up right in front of him and took a seat. He didn't shared the thoughts the training was developing too fast, because Zakh liked it that way.
He gulped down the piece of meat loaf with a drink of water.
"Hey Bart, I'm from Ashlan woods just right outside Riparia. Lived there with my pack until a few cycles ago. And the training is excellent, you just got to let the instructors teach you their own way." Zakh scrapped a bit more of mashed potatoes with some peas from his plate "You plan to go all the way on the Guard? or are you in this just for the free room, food and training?" Zakharias winked to show he was just teasing.

Bart smiled at the comments of his new friend. There were those here that were only here for the free basic training and then they would drop out, this was the way of the Realm, but Bart was not one of those that would do such a thing.

I have heard that there are those that would do this, but quite frankly Zakh, I'm not for putting the city, the realm, or myself through this training to then up and quit. I'm heading for at least Captain, if not then Perhaps General of this whole outfit. It doesn't hurt to aim high see, does it?

[Rockrump]

ooc:Thanks for reminding me of the time Zakh. I guess I've been napping again.

ic:Rockrump arrived at the mess hall during dinner and searched for a place to sit. Then at a nearby table he spotted a Dorin making conversation. He had seen this fellow a few times before around the grounds but never stopped to chat. Rockrump was in a good mood for talking so he got his food and sat down at the table.
"Serale, They call me Rockrump. I don't believe we've met."
He assumed both the dorin and the fellow he was talking to were both trainees like himself and took a bite of bread waiting for a response.

Bart stood and offered his hand to the newcomer to the table.

Rockrump, you say? well Rockrump, the names Bart, and me and Zakharias here, were just talking about how well our training was going. You are with a different squad of recruits I think? They have new squads starting all the time.

[Zakharias]

Zakh was just enjoying having met someone that was just as serious as he was about the army that he enjoyed being in company with this fellow.
He then noticed a dwarf coming up with his tray of food. Zakh had caught glimpses of him in the training course, but couldn't quite remeber. "Serale. I'm Zakharias and this is Bart. So... how is your training moving along? I'm in Longsword training and so is Bart. What did you choose for weapon of choice by the way?" Zakh asked but already knowing the answer because, since dwarfs weren't very agile because of the short legs and overall body mass, they were built for strength so most dwarves chose axes or warhammers as weapons of choice.

[Rockrump]

Rockrump was happy to be greeted so nicely and continued on. "Nice to meet you fellas, training's been tough but it'll be worth it. Should'nt be mch of a suprise that I'm choosing a great axe to train with. How has your guy's training been?"
He could tell that these guys were good people and was glad to be in the guard with them. Training was hard and a friendly conversation every once in a while is just what the doctor ordered for a new troop.

Bart was one of those guys that could be extremely serious, but then could come up with some hairbrained pun that would have everyone think him a complete and utter nutter. But that would become apparent, as the traning would continue.

These Seargeants are a bit on the intense side, don't you think, I mean were here to learn and they are there shouting at us all the time, you'd think the guys would be nicer to us, I mean those of us that want to learn will do what they say , but that guy that arrived late well, i'll admit he deserved the telling off he got

Zakh couldn't comprehend Bart's comment, since in his pack it was kill or be killed, the strongest live and the weak die. There was no time for pleasantries in battle.
"Well Bart if you think the officers are too rough it's because they need to rough us up. They need to show that the army is just for those who REALLY want to stay here. They're like that to discourage leeches that want free room, food and training. And besides, when you ride off into battle, will you hit your enemy with a spoken offense, or slap him silly with all the hard training you got?"
Zakh wasn't scolding Bart for his way of thinking but he was more informing him why the Army was like this.
