Riparian Guard - Barracks - Room 349 - Zakharias

The room was basic, as the Recruiting sergeant had already stated. There was the bunk, that had two sheets, two blankets and a pillow, all neatly folded ready for Zakharias to use. There was a set of drawers, and a small desk with a candle holder on it. The candles (five) were in the top drawer of the set of drawers. There was also a trunk for the storage of bulky items. Against the back wall stood a wardrobe that had a shelf in it.

ooc - settle yourself in and the captain of the guard shall come and talk with you

Zakharias walked down the hall where was his room and he browsed through the numbers on the doors.

"345... 347... 349, here it is!"
He looked in his pouch for his room key, then he inserted it in the lock and entered the room.

The room was simple, as the seargeant stated.
He removed his mantle, folded it and put it in the wardrobe.
He opened the trunk at the feet of his bed, and he put his money bag inside. "I won't be needing this for now".
he removed his dagger-holster from his belt and tucked it inside the trunk also. This dagger was his dagger of initiation, The Graw'lak, a ritual dagger with a twisted blade with his pack insignia on it, two crescent moons slashed by a wolf's claw. His most prized possession. Only to be used for honorable purposes, not senseless brawling.

He removed the sheets, blankets and pillow and settled them on the floor. He started then to make his bed. He was not accustomed to making beds, since previously he mostly slept on the ground, so he did the bed mostly because he thought that was expected from him. he tucked the sheets on the sides of the bed, then stretched the blackets on top of it, and the pillow on top of the bed. Since the Dorin had fur, he had little use for the blankets, but for sleep, he thought, he would remove them.

he sat on the bed, his body asking for him to doze off, since he'd been walking to the city, these last few days.
He oppened the drawers one by one, only to find them empty.

"This is it"Zakharias thought"This is where the journey that separates me from my pack begins."

He continued sitting on the bed, his mind wandeng off, reminiscing his packmates.

Captain Dalegan walked upto the door and knocked. He was a busy man and had a numbe rof new recruits to see this brightening, so, he waited for the door to be opened.

ooc - the new recruit had better wake up, if he has fallen asleep, because the boss of the guard is here to get the training, and other information sorted out for his new recruit.

OOC: lol, no he was not asleep, only reminiscing. He has a lot to think about

IC: Zakharias heard the knock at the door and bolted up. He was warned that the captain would meet with him shortly.
He was hoping that the Captain said something like "Get yourself out and start on guard-duty right away"
But he knew that if he was to get admitted in the guard and acknowledged for his valor, he had to work hard just like everyone else.

He walked up to the door and opened it wide.
He recognized that this was an officer of higher rank from his uniform.
"Serale" Zakh said, and performed a salute, joining his legs, lifting his right hand, fingers alligned, lifting it sharply to his eyebrown and snapping it down.
"You must be the Captain. I 'm aware that you are here to explain to me life in the Army?"

He toook a step back, giving room for the Captain to enter.

Captain Dalegan stepped into the room. He smiled as the new recruit had made an attempt at a salute. This was always fun to watch,and with training, would improve. The captain then began his introductions for new recruits to the guards of Riparia.

Serale Zakharias. My name is Captain Dalegan. I am the captain of the guard of Riparia. I am pleased to meet you and hope that you will have a long and fruitful career as you step out into the world of the Military that guards this great city.

First - The training course you are about to embark on lasts for a cycle. At the end of the training, and if you make it through the training, and be assured some do not make it, or can not hack it, then you will be enrolled properly into the Riparian Guard. In basic training you will be trained in the basics of some of the work that you will undertake in your life here. You will learn to work as a team, you will learn basic weapon skills of your choice, you will learn basic dagger skills as a compulsory weapon.

Second once I have finished this little introduction to the guards, you will be sent to collect your basic issue belongings for the duration of this training. You will be issued with a guards dress uniform, three training uniforms, a guards dagger, a provisional Guards visa, two pairs of boots, a copy of the guards handbook (ooc - I will be writing this up in a while so that you will have some background information, but for now just use you imaginations

Three - training is in two sections. you will be trained in the basics of what it takes to be apart of the riparian guards, and basics in strength and stamina, and endurance to make you fit. then towards the last couple of brightenings in your training, you will be trained in the use of the dagger and the weapon of your choice. On the last brightening of the training you will have a training adventure to complete. If you complete this training then you will be promoted to the Riparia guards.

One more thing, and funnily enough, the most important, for some that may well prove to be unable to complete the course, the pay for a trainee guardsman is the sum of twenty crowns for the cycle. This may not sound like much but you will be getting free room, and board, and free training in a number of different aspects of the life of a guardsmen.

Once you have completed training the pay packet of a private in this section of the military of the realm, is thirty two Crowns a cycle. Again this is plus the previous benefits.

So Zakharias, do you have any questions about the Riparian Guards at this time that I can answer for you now?

Zakharias nodded regularly just to show that he was paying attention to the Captain and when he finished describing the guard life he replied.

" Well that is pretty self-explanatory, Captain Dalegan, Sir. All i was wondering is what options are available to the weapon of choice. Apart from that i have only to ask you about where to get my equipment and where and when does my training begin."

OOC: You will have to create a training thread. I PMed Vinston and maybe you could train us both simultaneously, it would be more interactive. Btw what time of day is it? are we going to get some sleep or train right away? just for purposes of enriching my posts

ooc - Basically you will be starting your training early on the next brightening. So if you have anything to get from anywhere or if you wish to venture out and explore the city for the evening then that will be fine.

Basically the armory / supplies post is to be carried out in this thread. This will be your general purpose thread for all your information and supplies. I will create a general area for all the guards that will be a mess hall / Bar area so that all three of the guards can interact if you want to

I will create the training thread in a while so that the two of you can begin to get into the fun of it all. So we shall continue and then the fun will begin.

ic - Captain Dalegan smiled as his new recruit asked his questions.

Well Zakarias, the weapons of choice for the guards are The Short sword, the Long sword, the Halberd, Staff, Spear, Battle Axe, Great Axe, WarHammer, Long Bow and Short Bow. But I will leave your training Sergent to sort this out with you.

Your training will begin at 06:00 hours, tomorrow, so I would suggest that you get to bed early this evening, because I know that your training Sergeant will be taking you through some strenuous tasks over the next few brightenings. You will meet him on the parade ground. So If there is nothing more, then you need to report to the Armoury and Supply Depot. You will find this by leaving the Barracks, turning right then heading across the parade ground and you should not miss it because it has a large sign above the door.

I look forward to meeting you at your Graduation Ceremony at the end of the cycle. Till Then Zakharias I wish you well, and if the sergeant doesnt eat you for breakfast you should do well here in the Riparian Guard.

The Captain left Zakharias to get his supplies and gear from the armoury.

Zakharias could imagine himself holding a short sword, a Long Sword, A staff and even a great axe. Dreams of glory flashed in his mind for seconds. As the Captain finished his briefing Zakharias saluted as firmly as when he got in. as the Captain left he went and retrieved his imperial visa from the trunk and his mantle from the wardrobe which he fastened it to his shoulders and left the bedroom, with the care of locking it before leaving.

IC: Zakharias followed thoroughly the directions of the Captain to the Armory, but along the way he asked a soldier for new directions, just to ensure that he would not get lost.
As he paced his way to the Armory something ocurred to him.
"I wonder if the Riparian Army has customized uniforms for Dorins and Katta? 'Cause i can't put boots on or anything and my stature is different than humans."

As he arrived at the Armory he could see a few recruits coming out of the building with bundles under their arms. As he entered the officer in charge was behind a counter and behind him one could see rows and rows of shelves filled with packages just like the ones he saw under the other recruit's arms.

Zakharias stepped up to the counter and stated.
"Serale. I am Recruit Zakharias. I am here to receive my standard equipment that was issued to me. Here is my Imperial Visa to confirm my identity."

ooc - Yes the Bunny eating dragoon will eat the nasty bunny for breakfast, so if ye would be so kind I will get the NPC to see to your needs

ic - The Armory stores Sargent was busy when Zakharias entered. There were two others in the room that would be served before he got to serving the Dorin. As it came to Zakharias' turn, the sergeant, a Short human with a funny looking hat on his head, that hid one of his eyes, looked the dorin over.

Ahh a Dorin, well we have just the uniform for you.

The sergeant went through the racks of uniforms, everyday uniforms, and then brought them to the counter in the room.

Well my friend, here's your dress uniform, it will fit I can tell your size so do not fret You also have three, every day uniforms.

The sergeant then moved off to the racks of weapons and collected the Standard Guards dagger, and then collected the introduction documentation pack. The dagger was a special dagger that the guards were given on enrolling. It was made from dwaven steel, exceptionally strong and sharpened to the point that a human hair falling onto it would be cut into two. It had a slightly curved, eight inch blade.

Right here we have your dagger. Do not lose it for it is you standard weapon and you will be court marshalled if you are caught without it when you are on duty. The documentation pack includes your military visa, and the Riparian guard Handbook. You must sign the Visa for it to become your identity card. On completion of your training the CO will sign it to make you an official Guardsman. You will need to wear your everyday uniform first thing to your training sessions, So, new recruit, take these and be ready for the start of the new brightening.

ooc - the everyday uniform will be dark Blue in colour, just in case you want to describe it.

OOC:hehe, bunny eaten. sorry about that i just didnt had any material to work on the armory.

The Dorin was in awe as teh officer brought him the uniform, he could see it had nice dark blue color and the feel of it was soft, yet, Zakh could see that it was made to resist.
The officer placed the dagger on top of the uniforms and Zakh could see that the dagger,even if it were standard issue, was of good quality. All dwarven weapons had quality, so he heard.

Zakharias grabbed his Riparian Guard handbook and his military visa. He grabbed the ink pen on top of the table and scribbled his signature on the military Visa.
He then stuffed the Riparian Guard Handbook between the uniforms and grabbed them under his arm.

"Thank you for everything, Sir.Serale" Zakharias nodded and left in a hurry, hlding his military visa in his hand so his signature wouldnt smudge.

As he arrived to his room, he grabbed hold of his key, opened the door and entered. He closed the door and lay the bundle of uniforms on his bed. he took off his mantle and hanged it on the wardrobe. He was anxious to unfold the uniforms and wear at least one of them to see how it fitted.
he tucked away inside his wardrobe the dress uniform. e didn't want to risk damaging it by trying it out.
He stripped and began to put on his uniform. It consisted of loose dark blue trousers, with pockets and a black leather belt with a silver buckle to put around the waist.it had a tight dark blue tank shirt and a blue jacket. Zakharias tried it on and swung around his arms a bit to see if he could fight with it on. It offered almost no resistance to his moves. it had a wool shirt to wear on cold days and a hat to wear on sunny days.
The really odditie that Zakh had never see were the Boots. They were more like black leather paddings for the front of the Dorin's paw. it was more for decor and etiquette, but they were confortable enough for Zakharias not to notice them if he walked around a bit.
Afterwards, he undressed his uniform, tucked it away in his wardrobe, one of them he layed it on top of the trunk, All ready for dressing first thing in the morning.
it was geting dark so he thought, since he had to wake up at 05:20 to be at training camp at 06:00, he might as well get some sleep. He layed down on top of his bed, the season not cool enough for him to have to cover himself up, since his fur gave him most part of his warmth. He closed his eyes and fell asleep almost imediatly, his day of wonders a blur now, the excitement that made him weary just a tingling feeling as he drifted to sleep.

Zakharias slept, waking up a few times, both anxious to get to the traing and afraid not to oversleep. At morning, a trumpet sounded that Zakh was not expecting. Now he knew that it would be almost impossible to oversleep, the racket of the trumpet waking up everybody that were inside the barracks.

He got up, rubbed his eyes and stretched.
"This is it" he thought "Time to show my worth"
He stood up, his big round shoulders cracking as his cartilages moved in to place. He cracked his neck to the left and right and cracked bith of his hand's knuckles.

He goot his pants on and belt. and put on his tank shirt, tucking inside his trousers. He also put on his boots and his cap.
"I don't know how are we supposed to dress but i guess i'll find out if the Seargeant yells at me".
He tucked his military visa inside his pocket and also his key.
He was leaving the room when he remembered his dagger.
He took the dagger holster and placed it on his belt on his right side, so he could use it for stabbing, instead of using it like a kitchen knife.
He got out and locked the room. It was 05:45 or something alike and Zakharias hurried to training camp.

Zakharias entered his room after the day's training, he felt drained and exhausted and being only 22hoo hours he fell down on top of the bed and almos passed out, instead of falling to sleep. he only took enough time to take of his uniform and setting it up to be ready for the morrow. With his stomach full and his muscles still aching, dreamless sleep came quickly.

OOC: make sure you salute

IC: The sergeant walked up to each of the recruits rooms. He knocked on the door and waited to be allowed admission. There were two reasons for him arriving at their rooms this time in the evening. One was his weekly inspection, the other he would announce after he had inspected the room

Serale Recruit, it is the time of the cycle inspection. Now this will occur on a regular, (ooc: when the GM can remember ), interval to ensure that throoms are being kept to the standards required from those in Military service.

The sergeant inspected the room, and found a couple of small problems that he pointed out to the recruit, and then he moved on to the second reason why he had turned up at the recruit’s room.

Right get these things sorted out and no further action will be taken against you. (ooc: imagine what you could have messed up and sort it out, )

Now recruit I do not know if you have heard the rumours that are passing through the Riparian guards at the moment, so I am here to put these rumours straight.

Yes the riparian Guards are going to war.

Yes, if you so wish you may go along on the mission, although as a recruit you will not see much of the action at the battle front, but you will be involved in the battle in some way.

I need to know whether you want to go on this mission by the end of tomorrow (ooc: Saturday) so have a think about it. If you want to go then let me know, and tidy your room recruit, as I want to be able to eat my food off the floor next time I come in here.

Zakh was already fast asleep when someone knocked at his door.
His head stop up from his bead, and he groggily stood up and dragged himself to the door.
As he opened the door, the mist of his eyeslifted with incredible speed.
"Sergean..."Zakh realized he wasn't saluting so he brought his hand to his forehead"Sergeant, Sir!".
The sergeant was here to check on the room, to see if it fit the military standards.
Zakharias cursed under his breath because he didn't take the time to clean up or tiddy up after he arrived. His daily uniform laid on the ground, and a lot of dirt could be seen on the corners of the room.
Zakh nodded at the captain when he pointed out the uniform and floor and said he would take imediate action.
The sarge then told Zakh about the iminent war.
"Well, Sergeant,Sir. It would be an honor and a privilege to serve my City. The only thing is that i would like to finish my training first, and then be assigned to go, if it doesn't impose a problem."

OOC: Using Fluid Time you will have completed basic training by the time that the War thread, this is a bit of a paradox, because you would not be able to join in once the guys leave the barracks which will be happening tomorrow. As I have already said, at least I think I have, I will be loooking after you guys on this and you will not get to see 'too much' action, but you will be involved in certain plots where you PC will be able to help and maybe get to see a little action. It is up to you of course, and I can't force you, but if you want a little fun then feel free to join in.


IC: The Sergeant nodded as the recruit confirmed that his room would be tidied up.

See that it is Recruit, for we have a certain standard that we need to ensure we keep around here.

If you want to join in the other recruits that are going to be going to war get your butt down onto The parade ground where the captain will be waiting for you.
