Riparian Guard - Barracks - Room 345 - Vinston

The room was basic, as the Recruiting sergeant had already stated. There was the bunk, that had two sheets, two blankets and a pillow, all neatly folded ready for Vinston to use. There was a set of drawers, and a small desk with a candle holder on it. The candles (five) were in the top drawer of the set of drawers. There was also a trunk for the storage of bulky items. Against the back wall stood a wardrobe that had a shelf in it.

ooc - settle yourself in and the captain of the guard shall come and talk with you

Vinston put his key in the lock and entered room 345, his expectations fairly low. It certainly didn't impress the Dwarf, but it was nicer than sleeping by the side of the road. Vinston didn't have much to unpack, so he simply put his backpack on top of the dresser and made the bed.

He considered lighting a candle, but it was still light out, so that seemed foolish. Vinston put the key up on the dresser and sat on the bed, awaiting the captain of the guard.

"Maybe I should practice my salute" he chuckled to himself.

Captain Dalegan walked upto the door and knocked. He was a busy man and had a number of new recruits to see this brightening, so, he waited for the door to be opened.

ooc - the new recruit had better be alert and if he wants to salute the officer then that may impress , the boss of the guard is here to get the training, and other information sorted out for his new recruit.

Vinston hadn't been sitting long, had only just made his bed up, when he heard a loud knocking on the door. The Dwarf jumped up, slightly suprised, and quickly opened the door.

It was the Captain of the Guard!

Vinston took a deep breath, and putting his feelings of foolishness aside, tried to put together a decent salute. He held it for a second, then spoke up quickly. "Serale, Captain. I'm Vinston, a new recruit. What can I do for ya'?" The Dwarf stood tall (well tall for a Dwarf) and made eye contact with the Captain. He'd heard that these were the kind of things that were respected in the Military.

Captain Dalegan stepped into the room. He smiled as the new recruit had made an attempt at a salute. This was always fun to watch,and with training, would improve. The captain then began his introductions for new recruits to the guards of Riparia.

Serale Vinston. My name is Captain Dalegan. I am the captain of the guard of Riparia. I am pleased to meet you and hope that you will have a long and fruitful career as you step out into the world of the Military that guards this great city.

First - The training course you are about to embark on lasts for a cycle. At the end of the training, and if you make it through the training, and be assured some do not make it, or can not hack it, then you will be enrolled properly into the Riparian Guard. In basic training you will be trained in the basics of some of the work that you will undertake in your life here. You will learn to work as a team, you will learn basic weapon skills of your choice, you will learn basic dagger skills as a compulsory weapon.

Second once I have finished this little introduction to the guards, you will be sent to collect your basic issue belongings for the duration of this training. You will be issued with a guards dress uniform, three training uniforms, a guards dagger, a provisional Guards visa, two pairs of boots, a copy of the guards handbook (ooc - I will be writing this up in a while so that you will have some background information, but for now just use you imaginations

Three - training is in two sections. you will be trained in the basics of what it takes to be apart of the riparian guards, and basics in strength and stamina, and endurance to make you fit. then towards the last couple of brightenings in your training, you will be trained in the use of the dagger and the weapon of your choice. On the last brightening of the training you will have a training adventure to complete. If you complete this training then you will be promoted to the Riparia guards.

One more thing, and funnily enough, the most important, for some that may well prove to be unable to complete the course, the pay for a trainee guardsman is the sum of twenty crowns for the cycle. This may not sound like much but you will be getting free room, and board, and free training in a number of different aspects of the life of a guardsmen.
Once you have completed training the pay packet of a private in this section of the military of the realm, is thirty two Crowns a cycle. Again this is plus the previous benefits.

Vinston listened closely, and the Captain spoke for longer than he expected. The Dwarf tried to take everything in, and he was pretty sure he got most of the details. By the end, he was nearly weary from standing so still, but he didn't want to lean against anything or sit down as to make a bad impression with the captain.

He waited a few seconds after the Captain was finished to make sure he was finished, and then spoke, speaking rather rapidly. "Everything sounds good Captain. I'll be off to collect my things then, and I'm sure, sir, that I will finish basic training. I'm dedicated to the Guard now." He paused, as though finished, and then remember something else.

"Where am I too report to start my basic training? I don't think I was ever told." He looked up, slightly apprehensive, as he wasn't a hundred percent sure he hadn't just forgotten where to go.

ooc - I will be starting your training thread in a while so watch the main forum. I have given the following information to Zakharias so I willl pass this on to you as well

Basically you will be starting your training early on the next brightening. So if you have anything to get from anywhere or if you wish to venture out and explore the city for the evening then that will be fine.

Basically the armory / supplies post is to be carried out in this thread. This will be your general purpose thread for all your information and supplies. I will create a general area for all the guards that will be a mess hall / Bar area so that all three of the guards can interact if you want to

I will create the training thread for you both, in a while so that the two of you can begin to get into the fun of it all. So we shall continue and then the fun will begin.

ic - The Captain was pleased that another citizen was willing to put themselves through the training so that they could becoame part of the Riparian Guard.

Well Vinston your basic training will begin at 06:00 hours in the morning. You will need to get a good nights sleep because the training Sergeant will be putting you through a tuff set of training. You will meet your training Sergeant on the parade ground in the morning so I will now leave you so that you can go and get your equipment from the Armoury supplies building. The Supplies building is located on the other side of the parade ground. There is a big sign above the door, so you should not miss it.

If you complete your basic training, I will see you at the end of the cycle, at your Graduation ceremony. Till Then Vinston I wish you well, and if you servive the first brightening then you should make it through Training.

The Captain left Vinston to go to the armory / supply depot to pick up his new riparian Guard uniform and other essentials.

Vinston listened to the instructions, and taking it all in, thought the process seemed simple enough. The training, however, he was worried would not be simple at all. He attempted a last salute as the Captain left, and with a "Serale, Captain." prepared his things.

He decided he would head to the Armory first and pick up his supplies, along with perhaps another weapon if that was allowed. It didn't take the Dwarf but a few minutes to get his pack on and lock the door, and he was on his way.

The Armory building was just as easily found as the Captain had said, and Vinston entered with a smile on his face. He looked to the clerk and spoke loudly, maybe even a bit too loudly. He was excited after all.

"Serale, sir. I'm here to pick up my uniform and supplies. I'm a new recruit in the Riparian Guard. Basic training tommorow." Vinston hoped there wouldn't be a problem, and that they were expecting him.

ic - The Armory stores Sargent looked up as a new recruit to th eguard entered. He knew the drill and also had been doing this for so long he was able to size up a person within the blink of an eye. The sergeant, a Short human with a funny looking hat on his head, that hid one of his eyes, began to smile as Vinston came into the room.

Serale my dwarvish friend, we have the perfect uniforms for you.

The sergeant went through the racks of uniforms, everyday uniforms, Boots and then brought them to the counter in the room.

Well my friend, here's your dress uniform, it will fit I can tell your size, so do not fret. You also have three, every day uniforms, and two pairs of boots.

The sergeant then moved off to the racks of weapons and collected the Standard Guards dagger, and then collected the introduction documentation pack. The dagger was a special dagger that the guards were given on enrolling. It was made from dwaven steel, exceptionally strong and sharpened to the point that a human hair falling onto it would be cut into two. It had a slightly curved, eight inch blade.

Right here we have your dagger. Do not lose it for it is you standard weapon and you will be court marshalled if you are caught without it, when you are on duty. The documentation pack includes your military visa, and the Riparian guard Handbook. You must sign the Visa for it to become your identity card. On completion of your training the CO will sign it to make you an official Guardsman. You will need to wear your everyday uniform first thing to your training sessions, So, new recruit, take these and be ready for the start of the new brightening.

ooc - The everyday unifrom will be dark blue in color. just in case you want to describe it.

Vinston picked up the uniforms, and although he was impressed, they were basically what he was expecting. Now the dagger, that was a suprise. The Dwarf took the weapon carefully and could already feel the power he could wield with it. It wasn't very big, but it could be very deadly.

The Dwarf smiled, feeling an urge to fight that he didn't know existed in him. It disappeared just as quickly, and Vinston laughed it off. "'Tis a nice dagger," he remarked, almost more to himself than to the Sergeant.

Vinston signed the Military ID, pocketed it, and then gathered the uniforms in his arms. He kept the dagger at his side, as you never knew what could happen.

With a final salute and "Serale Sergeant!" Vinston headed back to his room, and tried to rest, as tommorow was the big first day of training.

IC: The sergeant walked up to each of the recruits rooms. He knocked on the door and waited to be allowed admission. There were two reasons for him arriving at their rooms this time in the evening. One was his weekly inspection, the other he would announce after he had inspected the room

Serale Recruit, it is the time of the cycle inspection. Now this will occur on a regular, (ooc: when the GM can remember ), interval to ensure that throoms are being kept to the standards required from those in Military service.

The sergeant inspected the room, and found a couple of small problems that he pointed out to the recruit, and then he moved on to the second reason why he had turned up at the recruit’s room.

Right get these things sorted out and no further action will be taken against you. (ooc: imagine what you could have messed up and sort it out, )

Now recruit I do not know if you have heard the rumours that are passing through the Riparian guards at the moment, so I am here to put these rumours straight.

Yes the riparian Guards are going to war.

Yes, if you so wish you may go along on the mission, although as a recruit you will not see much of the action at the battle front, but you will be involved in the battle in some way.

I need to know whether you want to go on this mission by the end of tomorrow (ooc: Saturday) so have a think about it. If you want to go then let me know, and tidy your room recruit, as I want to be able to eat my food off the floor next time I come in here.
