[Weavers Woods] All of Me Loves All of You (Soleil/Asunder Wedding)

TS: 15th of Imperios, Era XXIV

The first of the three suns was starting to set low on the horizon, so the warm summer brightening was already starting to cool. Guests were to go to the Asunder estate just on the outskirts of Demios. Upon arrival at the house, signs pointed guests towards the Weavers Woods, into the cool shade of the trees.

Upon entry into the woods, white flower garlands woven through the trees along with candle lit lanterns marked the path towards a clearing where the ceremony would take place. Soft white flowers also lined the path on the ground.

The clearing was lit by candles in glass jars, placed upon various different
heights of cut logs. The result was a soft, almost ethereal glow. There were two rows of wooden benches for the guests that were thoughtfully draped with a length of soft burlap to protect their guest fine clothing from the wood. Lanterns and white boughs of flowers alternated along the isle. The isle itself was paved with another long length of white cloth and white flower petals, and it lead to a large, easily 100 year old oak that served as the wedding “arch”.

As decor for the occasion, the tree had its own strips of white linen draped within it’s branches along with lanterns that were strung with what appeared to be spiderweb silk as they glistened when the candle light caught them. At the base of the tree stood a sliver barked Treant, her head encircled with a wreath of white flowers. To her right sat a quartet playing string instruments which filled the space with soft music.

Guests were invited to choose a seat and not a side as neither the bride or the groom had any immediate family of blood, only those of their choosing amongst their friends.

The bride was no where to be found in the area, as she was back at the house with her daughters preparing for her grand entrance.

Rosie Kyrillos is a glorious SuperheroRosie Kyrillos is a glorious SuperheroRosie Kyrillos is a glorious Superhero

It was the end of summer and, after spending much of it landlocked in Port Alyxandrya, Rosie was itching to get the feel of the rolling waves beneath her boots again. As much as she cherished her time in that city, she couldn't deny the call of the seas. Doing such a thing would have been as useless as denying that her eyes were blue.

When the invitation arrived, and she discussed it with Adyn, they both decided that a journey to Demios wouldn't have been the worst thing in the world. It would serve as a fitting island getaway before the throes of Autumn took them both back to the work they had been putting off in favor of each other's company. It was far away and reasonably isolated, which meant adventure shouldn't be too hard to find. There was just the matter of the wedding to attend first.

She'd opted to wear a lightweight, rose colored dress with three-quarter sleeves, a wrapping surplice bodice, and a tying sash at the waist. Wrapped detail carried into a front slit maxi skirt to finish. The heels of her matching stilettos, added a few more inches to her height. Her hair had been brushed and tamed to fall in soft, loose curls to the middle of her back. She carried with her a small white clutch that contained a flask of rum and other minute necessities.

She'd promised herself to be on her best behavior. Manners didn't come easily to Rosie, but she found herself caring more than she usually did nowadays. It was a strange feeling that she'd eased into something akin to the type of lady her mother had always wished for her to be. The woman wasn't certain how to handle it, so she decided to push those thoughts aside in favor of more pleasant ones.

Like the man whose arm she currently had linked with her own. As they made their way to the ceremony area, Rosie brushed her lips along Adyn's jaw to his ear and whispered, "I do believe I'm the luckiest woman here, mon seul amour. I can't imagine a man more dashing than you." She pressed her mouth to his cheek and giggled as an imprint was left behind. Her thumb wiped it away easily enough and her lover's face was once again free from the mark.

At the instruction to simply choose a side, Rosie opted for starboard. Adyn would understand why, they both shared an intimacy with the starry sky above. As they were taking their seats, Rosie's plus one decided to make an appearance. She and Adyn had both received invitations, after all. So the sailor had taken it as a sign that she was able to bring another guest as well. Even if he didn't know the bride and groom from Markalin and Borthanas.

"Rose!" he whispered rather loudly and waved his hands above his head from the back of the crowd in an attempt to garner her attention. The woman's eyes settled upon the man as he began to climb over the backs of chairs and finally settle his bottom in the seat next to her. William Durand, her First Mate, the eye-patch wearing, man-bun sporting, pirate had arrived. His grin was wide even as he tugged at the knot of his tie. "This thing is choking me," he hissed.

Rosie's eyes rolled and she turned slightly in her chair to help him loosen it just enough to where he could breath. He gave an exaggerated sigh and placed his arm over the back of Rosie's chair so he could lean in and greet the couple. "When do we eat?"

The last time Adyn had been in Demios had been for business, and being as rushed as he'd been to get back to the Capital, he just hadn't enjoyed the island as much as he could have. A trip back with Rosie promised to weave a different story, one he planned to make the best of before turning back to work upon the mainland.

Not that he needed to go anywhere to enjoy his time with Rosie. But she was a woman of the seas, and travel of that nature undoubtedly called to her, and Adyn... well, he had the opportunity to follow her like a lost little stray, and he would certainly have done so as far as Arium and back. So there he was, stunning blonde on the crook of his arm and a stick of Sparkle between his lips, fresh from a journey around the northeastern tip of the empire.

And to top it off? He was dressed like Master Thorne. Clean shaven, hair smoothed back, in a grey three-piece suit with a tailed jacket and a matching hat. And he didn't even like hats all that much. The suspenders beneath his waistcoat, the cravat beneath his collar, and the handkerchief in his pocket even matched the rose-colored garb that Rosie wore.

Not that he was the most well-versed in the fashion of that sort of thing. He had gotten some help from his fairer companion. But if she was happy with how he looked, he could suffer the cravat and the hat for a little while.

Still, his one hand shifted restlessly in his pocket as he puffed on the Sparkle between his lips, eyes brushing the array of seats and only stilling once his companion's voice lilted through the air. Adyn turned his gaze to her, the sight of which brought the shift of a smile to a corner of his mouth. A wry expression eased onto his face as she left an imprint of her lips against his cheek, and as soon as she had managed to wipe it away, he pressed his own mouth against her temple.

"If you do happen to see a man you find more dashing, point me in his direction, mon étoile. I'll buy him a ticket to Terramarique... or Sheria, maybe?"

Afterwards, he was glad to find a seat. He gave a brief tug at his slacks before planting himself beside Rosie, immediately removing his hat as he sank against the chair. Blue eyes shifted in the direction of William's voice, and the rogue's grin returned as he recognized the discomfort the sailor held in his garb. It had taken some time for Adyn to get used to this manner of dress again, but at least it had never truly been foreign to him. He wasn't sure if the same could be said for William.

And Miss Cockram. Adyn cast a look over his shoulder as William asked when food was appropriate, seeking out his plus one. He had intended to name Rosie that companion, regardless of them both receiving invitations, but once Rosie decided to invite William along, Adyn could hardly leave the man without a date of his own. Or leave the extra invitation completely wasted.

So, he had asked the redheaded woman who had given him a rough time during his initial journey toward Medonia. Why not? Adyn was a gentleman, of that there was no doubt, and Miss Cockram was the epitome of a lady.

He snuffed out his cigarette and let his eyes drift from the newest arrivals back to Rosie. He waggled his brows at her playfully before the grin stretched across his face, his amusement at the entire situation generally expanding. He had not, after all, been to a wedding since he was just a boy. And he felt nearly dressed to the nines as he was.

But she certainly looked nice. Nicer than nice. She was absolutely gorgeous. He had told her as much a few times already, but it was clear from the glint in his eyes that he was about to do it again. If she hadn't gotten tired of hearing it by now, she just might manage before noon had come around.

Dante Asunder is a glorious SuperheroDante Asunder is a glorious SuperheroDante Asunder is a glorious SuperheroDante Asunder is a glorious SuperheroDante Asunder is a glorious Superhero

The setting was pristine. All the hard work had certainly paid off because the whole place looked sensational. Dante had been to a few weddings, including his first where his bride had left him at the altar. He still wasn't sure if that was her choice or not as she had been found murdered shortly there after, but he wasn't going to allow his mind to dwell on such things. That had been eras ago and he and Niven had already been through a great deal. He wasn't about to ruin this, the happiest brightening of his life, by thinking about horrible events from his past.

That said, he wasn't stupid either. He didn't want to take any chances so had his son, Jar the legionnaire, standing sentry outside Niven's door as those assembled awaited the most beautiful she elf on Telath to ready herself.

Dante, for his part, hadn't been able to sleep past mid-darkening. He had taken a walk on the beach outside their home, he'd exercised, trained, done everything he could to calm himself, but nothing had worked. Finally about a candlemark before sunrise he'd started readying himself. His blonde hair had been brushed, with the length of it tied into a ponytail and tied with an unadorned simple black ribbon. He'd also managed to get clean shaven and trimmed his fingernails and such, including a bath. Did I mention he'd had a lot of time?

The clothes had proven more difficult. For the longest time he'd worn his priestly robes whenever an occasion required a fancy dress code. He'd practically forgotten what dressing up entailed. He'd hunted for months looking for something that was appropriate... which he failed at miserably. Finally, on one of his trips to Jaedaxia for work he discovered, what he felt was perfect. a long forest green hooded cloak. Otherwise he wore brown leather breeches and boots, with a forest green belt. His shirt was white and he wore a brown leather vest with a lavender butanier pinned to the vest's lapel.

As he had pinned on the cloak, the dracon had admired his human seeming in the mirror. Well... he wasn't elven, and Niven had seen his true form, but for some reason she still wanted to marry him. He, not for the first time, felt that some deity must be looking out for him. He looked human, rugged and seaworthy, not at all the type that a aetherially gorgeous elf like Niven would be interested in, but here he was, on his wedding day to said elf. A huge grin appeared on his face and his doubts flew out of his head. "She loves me," he said to himself as his soul filled with joy as he refocused on the here and now.

So there he stood in a beautiful grove, wearing clothes that would help him blend in with his surroundings, greeting guests as they arrived at what should be the best day of his life. Dante, his son Kel, and his youngest child Chariras stood near the treant. The boys were dressed, all similar to their father, although instead of green cloaks and brown clothes, their colors were reversed. Their belts were brown with green pants, boots and vest. They had the white shirts, lavender bouteniers, and dark brown cloaks. They stood patiently, with smiles on their faces. An interesting group to be sure, for although Dante and Chariras looked like father and son, Kel was Vysstichi. He was thin, even for vysstichi, but beautiful for a male. He wore a smile, but his red eyes held no amusement and they would regularly scan those assembled as if he was looking for something or someone. Dante and Chariras wore smiles as well, but their eyes were softer, like they were enjoying themselves. To those who were familiar with such things, the whole trio's body language spoke of a group ready to act.

As Dante scanned the crowd, if he saw a familiar face he would smile and nod. That included the intriguing couple he had met in Zeil Cerca. Those already assembled would find that the vast majority of people appeared to be fishermen. They were tan skinned with the walk of sailors and although their clothes were clean and mended, none were what one would say was exceptionally well dressed, but they were all friendly.

Meanwhile in Niven's room the girls of the Asunder household were helping their mother get ready for her wedding. Maya, already elegant looking in her lavender gown, was putting the finishing touches on her mother's hair. She was all smiles as her nimble fingers did their work. "You look so beautiful. Father's going to collapse from shock," she stated giggling.

For herself Maya's long silver hair was braided with a lavender ribbon woven throughout. She was wearing the lavender gown her mother had bought her in Jaedaxia for the occasion. Her twin sisters, two human red heads, also in lavender gowns, were also all smiles, holding the various accents and embellishments for their mother's preparations. They giggled with their sister, "She's right mom." The one on the left agreed. Dressed identically as they were, it'd be anyone's guess which was which, which was how they preferred it.

The other twin shook her head, "You want to take his breath and his senses away? Wouldn't that cause all sorts of trouble during the ceremony?" She grinned. "How's he supposed to answer that important question?"

She was watching him from her seat, gaze lazy. Casual. The carriage would bump and twist as it left the smoother cobbled streets and off onto the dirt path, but this would not stop the Quel’anthasan from admiring him. Theodallion was a beautiful elf, but for all his deep purple hair marking him as highborn, that would not matter here, in Aelyria. Just as the Kard en i’Elentiri name would not stir a second thought, the pair of Quel’anthasan were masked in a sort of anonymity in the empire, though Liahal might argue this both a blessing and a curse. She would wonder how her betrothed ended up here, his cold hands clasped around hers. She would wonder what his childhood was like, and how he kept his Quel’anthasan grace even though he was raised so far from Trelore.

But weddings had a funny way of birthing these types of soft reflections, and Liahal would not ask him these things.

It had been some time since she had first stumbled into the bride, or perhaps the bride had stumbled into her. Cycles had passed since that day in the wilds of Moonstone, and now here she was, back in Demios. Dressed in her finery and well prepared to give the pretty Syl with the fair hair her most sincere wishes, toast her congratulations loudly, and drink even louder.

”I am impatient.” She said it mildly, addressing her Theodallion just as her gaze left him. She was staring out the window now, watching as the carriage sprawled past lines of trees that all looked the same. She was fidgeting with the blue stone on her marriage finger, a habit she had picked up in the past cycles. Perhaps if she fidgeted enough, the carriage man would move more hastily, the wedding would start sooner.

But the carriage would not move more hastily, though they would reach the site eventually. The exit from the carriage was swift, Liahal meeting her vampire outside the carriage. Her arm weaved within his own, lavender skin meeting cerulean.

The Quel’anthasan was dressed in a layered, amethyst gown with billowing sleeves and a deep bateau neckline. A single stone hung from her neck, complimenting the silver embellishments that wove in and out in intricate patterns along her bust, only tapering off as they reached her shoulders. Her chin tipped toward his ear as they made their way past the garlands and toward the wooden benches. There was a rustle in the trees as they passed, a handful of birds taking that moment to flee from the trees. ”Do you think they will mind the silence a’maelamin?” It was known now that Theo’s affliction caused small animals to flee from him, and Liahal’s lips tried desperately from peeling into a grin. After all, his vampirism was not something that should be taken in jest, but she could not resist relishing in keeping a secret that no one else knew.

They would choose a seat, but not before a flash of tophat caught her attention a few rows in front of her. It’s owner looked vaguely familiar, but like a better looking, less rough around the edges Adyn. She would not have passed it a second thought if it was not the distinct smell of sparkle that wafted it’s way toward her, and the man removed his hat, revealing the jewel thief Lia very much knew as Adynirach.

”Adyn.” Her voice was perhaps louder than necessary. ”You clean up nice, vanima.” She had lifted to stand to properly address him, ”And where is Kai-“ She stopped short to see a pale haired blonde next to him. Green eyes flicked to Adyn, then back to the blonde. Back to Adyn.

Scandalous.

And finally, realizing the blonde woman next to him was someone she remembered. ”Urra Mee!”

What a small world.

It had been a long while since the elf had worn anything approaching the formality deserved by such an occasion. And yet it was odd how donning the garb so immediately evoked the memory of many such occasions in Sylrosia. He had not much enjoyed it then either. Drawing the absolute line at the idea of robes – for really, who wanted to be flapping around in all that excess fabric, looking like a monk?- he had settled on somewhat more modern attire, though still in the elven style.

The colour was an unassuming grey, elevated by the raw silk fabric that had a slight sheen. He was shiny, excellent. Long sleeved, the tunic hit mid-thigh, settling over soft breeches of a darker grey. It was not nearly as ornate as some of the things he had rejected, but still, it felt altogether alien to him after so long choosing his attire for function rather than frivolity.

Kailin’s outfit however, he could find no fault with. Other than the fact that it was quite distracting, and stole more of his attention than would probably be proper whilst amongst company, so he indulged himself whilst he could as the carriage drew them closer to their destination, letting his fingers dance around the skin it left bare, leaning in to brush a kiss against the side of her neck.

“Lle naa vanima Melamin” You are beautiful, my loveWords came soft into her ear, Calanon not entirely unaware that he had been less than wonderful company on their journey here, and now determined that they would make the most of this day.

They walked a fine line with each other still, cautious and yet at the same time, freer with their affections than they had ever been before. It was not love that was in question though, but more trust. He could see in her gaze when she looked on him sometimes that there was still fear in her heart. Fear to truly relax into their love when so recently she had been burned. And he too was not without his worries. Too easy it was for him to doubt her affection, to see threats where there were non, and though he fought against it, his insecurities still came between them more than they should.

And today, a wedding made it all too easy to ponder on those things. But Cal did his best to shake it off, for today was also a chance to shift that all aside and just enjoy each other’s company. And as the carriage slowed to a halt, his hand came down to join with hers, and he raised it to press a kiss against her knuckles, before helping her down. “ Shall we?”

Following signs into the woods, Calanon felt a little of his tension slip away, glancing sideways at Kailin, her profile gently gilded by the fading light. If they were not perhaps a little late, he might have found it more difficult to resist the urge to dawdle a little in these woods, with her. But as it was they soon reached a clearing, its natural beauty only enhanced by the glow of candlelight and soft white blossoms.

The elf’s eyes skimmed over those guests already present, not expecting to see anyone familiar, least of all the pair that his gaze alighted on.

Oh.

Without meaning to, his eyes slide sideways to the woman next to him, watching her features carefully even as he began to manoeuvre them towards the benches on the opposite side of the clearing. That was a complication he had not anticipated, and he gave Kailin’s hand a little squeeze, as much for his own comfort as hers. It seemed like it was going to be a trip filled with awkward reunions.

The suffused light lightly shined on her blue-black hairs as Diamea made her way through the woods and stepped, with just a hint of shyness, into the clearing where the ceremony was bound to happen.

Her steps were quite silent as she took a few more, her black simple high heels appearing from her deep blue dress with a flower pattern. When she had to choose a dress she had been torn; she had never been to a wedding before but she knew a pair of the dress she had, coming from that cruise, weren't appropriate. They were good for a party, for showing off, but not for a wedding, or at least she thought so.

After some hard thinking, she had decided to go for a simple summer dress, elegant and confortable, a dress she had bought when she had first settled here. The silk was such a caress on her skin, it felt so lightweight and soft, she loved it. In her hand was a small black pursue holding all a woman like her would need.

Her eyes surveyed the place, she quite liked the way they had set everything up, a beautiful place for a beautiful event. Her eyes moved on the guests, gathering and waiting for the spouses to come. A bit of everything. But no one she knew, at first sight. Would them be there? Probably be so. He had invited her there, he couldn't not partecipate.

She lingered there, looking around as she waited to sit for just a moment more. She was surrounded by unknown people but she had expected so, he had invited her there to somewhat apologize? for his behavior, to try look good at her eyes.

At first she hadn't been much in mood for a wedding, she was more in mood to puch things, badly, but then... it was a social event and she should sometime leave her home for something that didn't implied her risking her life.

So she had accepted his invitation.

As her gaze lingered here and there, she seemed her to recognize someone she had a little adventure there in the city of Demios, but he seemed just too clean and shaved and... elegant, to be him. Last time she saw her he was pretty unshaved and rough-looking, even if the cigarette in his lips...

And here he was. The elf she still didn't know if to punch or just shrug and start anew. The latter was indeed the better opinion if she thought more about. Anyway, she followed him with her eyes as he came in with the woman he spend time with and as he was all for her. Such a gentleman...

She couldn't but let out a little smirk appear on her lips: he was indeed such a gentleman... until he left without a word. Her smirk faded as she castigaized herself, she was being too hard on him. But he just pissed her off so much at the time!

As the time was approaching, she would take a seat on one of the benches, she had no real preference and she would sit where it was free to.

Weddings, he thought, were a tedious affair. In the city, surrounded by the latest fashions and the finest money could purchase, perhaps he might have had a different opinion as they rolled towards the location of the ceremony. But here? Out in the wilds where the trees dominated and the smell of the dirt and the animals rose heavy around them? How...boorish. How provincial. How...quaint. He decided, nearly upon the moment the bumpiness of their carriage ride increased, that this was going to be a fairly tame affair that was going to see him bored and hungry by the end of the evening.

His eyes slid over her as the carriage began to slow, making note of the small movements, the twisting of her ring, the restless that seemed to possess her. If nothing else, at least he had her for the darkening, a proud jewel to wear on the arm, to dangle before others, to show to the world of Aelyria what it was to be Trelorean...and what it felt to lack that Trelorean-ness.

He drew her close against him as she twined her arm in his, taking the moment to show the gathered the beauty of the pair as he reached out to adjust the stone at her throat, shifting the clasp behind her neck again in small increments, fingers taking advantage of the close proximity to a particular vein whose rhythm most drew him in. "If they do not all fall silence to your loveliness, lirimaer, it would be a crime." Not what she had meant but his mouth curved in a self-satisfied smirk all the same before he briefly kissed her.

It was on with the show, after all.

He allowed her to decide where they would go, his eyes traveling the surroundings as they moved. And when they were seated and she was speaking... His eyes traced towards the human she greeted. Two humans she greeted. Theodallion was an expressionless presence at his lady's side as she spoke with them, his eyes tracing over them briefly, starting to move away...and then. Oh. Right. That one. The slight lift of a corner of his mouth was shifted in the man's direction. "Colonel Graveyard. How delightful to see you again." The sardonic drawl of his voice was hard to miss. "This must be...Missus Graveyard?"

He sat perched at the edge of his bench, not inclined to stand to greet such lesser creatures as these. He wore a pair of nice black trousers and an amethystine purple shirt to match his lady's. His own deep purple tresses had been drawn back with a thick black ribbon. He wore no jewels or gems to accentuate his neck or wrists or fingers, all of which were delicately figured. If he had an edge about him despite his soft appearance...well...there was a reason the birds had all stopped singing, of course.

Niven is a glorious SuperheroNiven is a glorious SuperheroNiven is a glorious SuperheroNiven is a glorious Superhero

Niven smiled at her eldest as she checked her own reflection in the looking glass, admiring the fine work the young Vysstichi woman had done on her hair. Niven usually wore her long blonde hair down and around her shoulders. The darkening before, Maya had put her hair in papers, so that it curled nicely and now had braided and twisted it up into an elegant half up do so the curls cascaded down her back while leaving nothing to hide her pretty face. Ivy and white blossoms were weaved throughout the braids with a few stray blossoms tucked into the curls. To top it off an intricate traditional elvish tiara made of twigs and flowers that she’d made herself was sitting on her forehead. The Silrosian smiled at the bride who looked back at her.

Turning away from the mirror towards her twin daughters, she laughed at their comments. “You’re all too kind.” She looked at each of her daughters and smiled, her green eyes twinkling like dew drops on the grass in the early brightening sunslight. “I have something for you all.” Reaching for the drawer in her vanity, she pulled out a box. Opening it, she pulled out smaller similar tiaras for each of them. “I made these for you to wear as well.” Rising, she placed them on each of their heads. “Thank you for being my attendants today. Now let’s get me into my dress."

Carefully, the trio helped their mother into her wedding dress. The dress was strapless with a sweetheart neckline that was tastefully decorated with gold hued beading, fitted through the boned bodice, cinched just above the hips with a long belt clasped at the front with a large gold broach. The skirt flowed from the belt down and sported a beautiful ombre going from a pretty pale green to a rich deep meadow green. A beautiful green peak shoulder long flowy cape competed the look.

Looking around the room that would after today cease to be her bedchamber once she was dressed, she sighed happily. Most of her things had already been moved to Dante’s… erm, their room, and there was really only what she needed to prepare for today. Giving a slight nod, she gathered her skirts and opened the door to her room. Placing a hand on Jar’s shoulder she smiled at him. “We’re ready to go if you are ready to escort us.”

She felt a twinge of sadness at the fact that Dante had felt it necessary to station their son the soldier outside her door. But after what had happened at his last wedding, she understood why. It warmed her heart to know that he loved her enough to ensure that she was protected but still kept with tradition and hadn’t seen her all day.

Niven allowed Jar to escort her and the girls down the stairs and out towards the forest. She looked upon all the decorations with great satisfaction. The work that she and Meeko had done together earlier in the brightening had held up well and still looked beautiful. Sometimes it paid to have spider for a daughter.

Stopping a few feet from the entrance to the clearing, Niven sent Jar ahead to inform the quartet, Ilianthe, and Dante of her arrival. As soon as the quartet started playing a soft melody, Niven sent the girls on ahead of her, each carrying their own lantern wrapped in ivy. As soon as the music changed to a traditional elvish melody Niven took a deep breath in an attempt to calm the butterflies that had risen in her stomach. She smoothed her skirt, gripped her bouquet, and made her entrance, walking softly down the isle of petals until she was standing before Dante and Ilianthe. After giving her bouquet to Maya, she smiled lovingly at her fiancé. She tore her eyes away from his long enough to nod to Ilianthe to begin the ceremony.

Kailin's head was turned, her gaze ostensibly focused out the window beside her as the carriage bumped its way toward the Asunder estate, but her thoughts were far away, the landscape before her obscured by images that flickered one after the other.

Orrian, resplendent as he waited for her at the end of the aisle, and the rush of love that told her she was heading toward home. Her father at her side, his hand clutching hers tightly as he walked her toward her future. And then later, Lilia, of course. Always Lilia. Small fingers dipping into a basket of flower petals and throwing them - half crushed - at the people in the aisles rather than the ground below, her laughter loud and defiant.

And what came after.

It was hard not to think of her own family on brightenings such as this one. Hard to keep the pain of loss from overwhelming her, even so many eras later. Hard not to feel fragile and somewhat selfish, knowing her thoughts and wishes should be with the bride and groom. Particularly so in this case, because she knew just how much Niven herself had lost.

The absence of her family must loom large on such a momentous occasion, and Kailin found her heart turning toward the elf, grateful that she and Calanon would be there to celebrate, and - at least on his part - bring the smallest piece of the elfhame back to Niven. She also found herself looking forward to meeting the groom, with whom the Sylrosian had clearly found family and a happy home.

The brush of fingers across her skin was pleasant, comfortable, but it was the warmth of his lips against her neck that drew her attention firmly to the present. Blinking her way back to him above a smile that took a moment to flow up over her features and into the pale green eyes, she turned to brush her cheek against his as he spoke.

"Sai lisse' bethea, a'maelSuch sweet words, beloved," she murmured on an exhale, and he could feel her cheek shift as her smile warmed before she pulled back to place a kiss on his lips, then spoke against them, "vee' naa lleAs are you."

And he was. Tall and elegant, his handsome features were startlingly beautiful, as they had been the first time she'd met him. Though, of course, he was less in need of a bath, now, and less on the gaunt edge of hard living, too.

And more dear to her. So much more dear. The trials of the past two seasons had made the lilt of his words and the impossible green of his eyes more precious for their extended and indefinite absence, and she felt her heart opening and softening - trust was a practice, as much as anything now - despite the somewhat rocky journey they'd had in getting here.

So when the carriage rolled to a rocking stop, and Calanon pressed a kiss to the back of her hand, she determined to set all of what had come before aside. She could, and would, simply enjoy the occasion and the fact that they were here together, despite how impossible that would have seemed at so many points along the way.

Fingers wrapping around his, she caught up a handful of fabric and descended as lightly as possible. Knowing the heat she would encounter here in Demios, Kailin had commissioned a gown that was comfortable enough that she kept thinking she must be missing some or other piece of clothing. But the lightness of it felt wonderful in the late summer suns, and she was grateful to her seamstress.

The cream colored fabric dipped almost the length of her sternum, stopping a mere few inches short of the gold belt that wrapped across her ribcage to define the empire waist of the gown. From there, it fell in gentle waves to her sandals.

With her hair curled into a simple arrangement at the back of her head - in which small gold leaves could be seen floating - the expanse of her back was exposed. Summer bronzed skin was curtained by the soft spill of fabric from where it had been gathered at the shoulder beneath gold straps that spelled a design of leaves and vines to echo what was seen on the belt and in her hair.

As they followed the signs to the site of the ceremony, Kailin's hand clasped in Calanon's, she was finally able to take in the surroundings and did not try to hide her pleasure when she saw the lanterns and flowers decorating the path. It was a pleasure that deepened in the glow of the many candles that had been positioned around the clearing they came to, as she finally felt the stir of romance that should likely have been there all along.

Feeling Calanon's squeeze of her hand, she turned to share all the warmth and love she felt with him, a soft glow of candles reflecting in her gaze, and returned the gesture before he led them to seats on the bride's side. For while she could appreciate that there were no sides, Kailin was here to support the Sylrosian she'd shared a dream with, and she knew Calanon was, too.

It was only a moment or two after they'd taken their seats that the music started, and Kailin automatically turned to wait for the bride to appear. She didn't notice when her hand tightened around Calanon's, for the traditional melody that the quartet transitioned into was achingly familiar to her - as it must have been to him - and it plucked at her emotions even as she smiled at Niven.

The elf looked beautiful, ethereal limned in golden candlelight, and Kailin knew she would remember this moment and sketch it later. Perhaps she could make a gift of a painting some brightening in the future. For now, she would give her focus to the couple who were joining their lives together, who she couldn't help but notice were elf and human.

Kailin's eyes flashed up toward Calanon briefly as she worked to breathe through the surge of fear mixed with hope - poignant in the tender muscle that was her heart - that she'd been feeling ever since Daltina.

Rosie Kyrillos is a glorious SuperheroRosie Kyrillos is a glorious SuperheroRosie Kyrillos is a glorious Superhero

Rosie slid closer to Adyn as he showered her with compliments once again. "Truly, you are the only man in the world who can get away with saying that to me more than once." Her lips ran softly along the edge of his jaw. She was going to whisper something else into his ear, when William shifted uncomfortably on her other side and cleared his throat.

Her gaze slowly turned towards the man, and her eyebrows rose in question. The man simply gifted her with a lopsided grin and inclined his head towards the approaching woman. Brooke Cockram was making her way down the aisle; a sufficient scowl placed upon her face. She pulled the top of her bright blue dress up and lumbered towards the trio. Heels and dresses were certainly not her normal garb.

"Where's the food?" she demanded and placed her hands on her hips. Being the epitome of a lady that she was, Brooke scratched at her bottom and snarled. "That's the only reason I came. He--" she pointed at the landlubber she knew as Mister Thorne, "--promised me food."

Rosie snorted. Miss Cockram was the embodiment of grace and understanding. "How about you and William go see if you can find some then," her tone was laced with a yearning to go with them. She briefly wondered how long elvish wedding ceremonies lasted. Perhaps she should have stuffed some rolls into her purse as well. Something to tie them over until the reception. That would have been smart.

She hadn't even finished the thought before her Quartermaster and First Mate disappeared beyond the tree line in search of sustenance. The woman shrugged and continued her exploration of Adyn's features. "If they cause a scene, we don't know them, oui?"

Another interruption ceased her adoration of Adyn's skin. She couldn't help the groan that came from the back of her throat as an intense sense of dread washed over her. This time her gaze fell upon a familiar lavender elfess. She waited for the recognition to settle before cooing at her, "Mademoiselle Furieux! Ravishing as ever, I see."

She didn't stand to greet the woman, Rosie was loathe to lose contact with Adyn. Instead she shifted and patted the now empty space on her other side. "Will you sit with us, mon amie?"

It was then the turquoise colored male(?) elf spoke to Adyn. His voice was like ice and the woman couldn't help the shiver than ran down her spine. It was as if someone had just walked over her grave. The smile that quirked to her lips as he addressed her companion let on that she was highly amused at his words. There was a story there, she knew it. Her gaze quickly flicked to Adyn's. He had to tell her later. She would insist.

She found herself nodding at his assumption of her name. Rosie did enjoy play acting. "Oui monsieur," she began. "Though I do prefer to be addressed as Madame Cimetière. Missus Graveyard is far too plain."

The music began, and finally Rosie stood to watch the bride glide down the aisle. She squeezed Adyn's hand as a soft smile rose to her lips. Niven certainly did appear to be happy. The pale green of her dress was stunning. The bride appeared to be glowing with a serene inner light. As the music stopped and the elfess took her place beside her fiancé, Rosie took her seat again.

She placed a hand on Adyn's knee and nestled herself against him to wait for the ceremony. Her other hand slipped into her purse to retrieve her flask. It was first offered to her purple friend.

The grin on Adyn's face broadened as Rosie accepted his compliments. He leaned into her touch, mouth opening as if to say something when William cleared his throat.

His eyes shifted first toward the bearded sailor, and then in the general direction that he was indicating. As soon as he saw Miss Cockram marching up in her fluffy-skirted dress, Adyn was forced to bite down on his bottom lip and swallow the snort of laughter. He'd never seen the woman garbed that way before, and it was clear that she was out of her element.

His brows lifted and a hand went to his chest when she pointed directly at him. Thankfully Rosie defused the situation and sent them both off in search of their prize. He exhaled, shifting a lopsided grin to Rosie before someone said his name.

Again, his gaze swiveled. There was a clear surprise in his expression even when he realized who it was. "Lia," he managed, but only barely, already aware of the name beginning to escape the Quel'anthasan's lips. He stammered for an answer.

His discomfort barely had time to settle before it only deepened. His eyes flickered toward the familiar blue elf, and so caught up was he in the sensation of the hair raising on the back of his neck, that he could hardly realize that Lia and Rosie already recognized each other. What seemed an attempt at a smile turned into the simple baring of his teeth, chin lifting in clear disapproval of the company Lia had decided to keep.

So they had a mind rapist in their midst. How wonderful, he thought. He could hardly tell if that familiar sense of dread was a result of the knot the elf's previous spellcasting had created in his stomach from the last time, or if it was merely Adyn's own paranoia rearing its ugly head.

"Delightful indeed," was his dry response, even as he drew a wary and protective arm around Rosie's shoulders. Thankfully the ceremony cut short the rest of what was sure to have been a riveting conversation.

On queue he stood, attention split between the proceedings and the discomfort born from the blue elf's recent appearance. Adyn took solace in the squeeze of Rosie's hand, forcing his attention onto the elven woman making her way down the aisle. As little as he knew of the couple of honor, at least he could admit that the two looked genuinely happy. He envied the pure and simple joy that seemed written on their faces.

For a moment he found himself looking down at Rosie in silent contemplation, but then the bride reached her place at the pedestal and the stillness of the crowd was broken.

Adyn removed his jacket as he found his seat once more, drawing his arm around her when she nestled in against him. Pale eyes drifted from the altar and then along the crowd, alighting briefly and warily upon the elven couple who'd taken their places somewhere beside them.

#soblessed

Calanon was still reeling in the knowledge that their evening was going to be spent navigating that awkward no man’s land of Kailin’s past entanglement. As he shot her a sideways glance, he was quite sure she had not spotted their mutual acquaintance across the way, now lost amongst the swelling ranks as guests took their seats for the main event.

And Rosie too… She was that incredibly beautiful pirate that Kailin had referenced. Perhaps he should have considered the possibility, but it had seemed all too unlikely that their paths would have crossed thus.

There was the barest hint of a frown on his face as he considered how he felt about being faced with so recent a history. Or, more accurately, how he felt about how Kailin might feel about being faced with it. The answer was as confusing as the question, and his eyes roamed the colourful assembly as he thought on it.

Speaking of past entanglements . There was one of his own. Admittedly surprised that BlueBlack had taken him up on the clumsily extended invitation, he managed a half a smile in her direction, before shifting slightly in his seat under her gaze, the hand still holding Kailin’s tightening a fraction. The discomfort of their encounter yesterday was still a little too vivid in his memory to cast aside. Kailin would be delighted.

It was a blessing then, when the soft strains of music wove their way through the guests and an expectant hush fell over the assembly, the rustle of fabric as people stood to receive the bride the only disruption to the melody that was to accompany her arrival.

Calanon felt for the first time the import of such a day, and his gaze slid surreptitiously toward his love. She had done this, of course, been wed and he wondered if were too much of a reminder for her. A little of that concern was clear on his face as he turned back to the aisle, but his eyebrows soon rose in surprise as he watched a Vysticchi male join the human man – who he assumed was the groom-at the front. And not moments later, a female dark elf and two human girls were making their way down the aisle, attendants it seemed.

The Sylrosian did his best to keep the shock from his face. For whilst he had been working on his own intolerance, it was by no means the norm for his dark cousins to mingle so freely amongst the lightborn. He considered this additional facet to Niven’s personality as his kinswoman made her entrance, radiant and truly beautiful as her happiness lit her from within.

It was poignant, for he knew only too well what grief she had faced, and to see her so bright with joy was encouraging, if bittersweet in that her own kin could not look upon it also. There was no preventing the ache that knowledge called forth in the elf.

Feeling eyes upon him, Cal pushed it away and glanced to Kailin, pinned for a moment by the mix of emotions he found in her gaze. She needed none of the finery she had clothed herself in, nor the flattering glow of candlelight for her beauty to shine through, and he was quite unable to prevent the smile that curved at his lips as he met her eyes briefly, feeling blessed at that moment that she was his, no matter what had gone before.

His expression turned quizzical as they were seated again, and he canted his head to the side, trying to read what she was thinking. “Mani naa ta, lirimaer?”

He had managed a half smile. After their encounter of the previous day, heated and quite embarassing, in particular for him, it seemed quite a success. He had had quite the hard moments at the Leap of Faith, but it seemed he was good, at least all in one piece. She bowed her head at him, she had, in the end, accepted his quite clumsy invitation to come to the wedding.

There was no time for more interactions, a good or a bad thing depending on the point of view but even if they had the chance to talk, what might happen later in the day, she had ordered herself to be polite and not as bitchy as the previous day. Anyway, that soft strains of music woved their way through the crowd, the bride was coming!

She could feel the importance of the moment. Silence had discended on the guest as everyone turned to the oncoming bride. It was curious see a Vysticchi being part of this all, it seemed he was part of the family and she imagined some of the other elves might have to discuss about his presence.

She remained silent as observed the bride coming in and reaching for her spot below the tree, close to the groom, and for the ceremony begin. She had never been to a wedding before so she was curious to see how it developed. It was somewhat... strange, being there like a common person, after everything she had lived and had happened. She smiled lightly, wishing silently to the two bonding togheter a good time from now on.

He preened her, fixing the clasp of her necklace, his necklace, behind her neck once again. She could remember a time when it vexed her, this fixing of loose hair, the occasional smoothing of her clothing. She would fight against the way he tidied her like this, Liahal responding with a pursed lip and a stiffer posture. But it had been a long time since then, and while it would be a lie to say the days of sharp tongues and calculated gestures for dominance were behind them, Liahal was privy to other ways to assert herself. Other buttons that could be prodded and pushed.

His fingers brushed against her neck, him leaning in close and speaking softly.

Coy, would be the tilt of her chin, the upward sweep of her eyes as they feigned shyness. ”You spoil me with your flattery a’maelamin. Do not ever stop.” And his mouth touched hers before the couple of jewel-hued elves continued down the aisle.

After they had reached their seats, Lia’s attention was quickly displaced from Adyn to her Urra Mee. ”I would not find a seat more fitting, Urra Mee.” Madame Cimetière sounded so, common, compared to Lia’s own nickname for the fair haired woman.

She found her seat, her arm tightening around Theo’s as her voice got low. ”He does go through them, doesn’t he?” Her eyes flicked to Adyn, but the comment was masked in the lilting, colorful inflections of their mother tongue.

It was then that the music started.

Green eyes left her Theodallion and her Urra Mee, ready to receive the bride in all her wedding day glow. The quartet played slowly, softly, and Liahal had nearly gotten lost in the romance of it all…

Nearly.

The Quel’anthasan would be blinded from the glow of the bride, missing the gentle curve of Niven’s lips and the elegant, sweeping movements of her dress as she started down the aisle. It was as if Kalendryas herself had touched down at that very moment, and time had paused, a tightness forming in her throat and her muscles growing taut and tense. Edhelmorblack elf.” Even the melodies of Trelorean could not mask the venom that spat from an otherwise pretty mouth, and Liahal had released the arm of her betrothed for fear of digging her nails into him.

Rigid, was her posture, her mouth flattening into a thin line as the VysstichiJer youth passed their row along the aisle. It had appalled her that Niven and her groom had resorted to the dark elf to act as the help to their estate, but what appalled her even more was the nerve of this filth, not only upstaging his employer but yielding face when surely there was work to be done for the reception. ”Bottom feeder.” She spat it loud enough in Common to make sure he could not ignore it. ”Crawl back to your hole before I shove you back in it.”

It was this deeply rooted hatred that caused the fine hairs along her neck to stand upright, a discrimination that had been ingrained and pushed into the girl since she was a child. But Liahal Kard en i’Elentiri, she was just a victim, a product of her environment... or was she born such a wicked thing?
